Midnight Discoveries

‘Hell, this is so pathetic. Why can’t I sleep? There isn’t any sign of any kind of attack, so what is it that’s keeping me up? Goddess, I just wish I could go to sleep. This is the third night in a row that I’ve been unable to sleep. I bet I look like a hag.’ thought the raven haired Shinto Priestess Hino Rei. She quietly left her room as not to disturb her guest, one of her closest friends, Aino Minako. Padding silently down the hall, she left the living area of the shrine and stood outside. The night was silent, the moon no more than a sliver in the sky, the stars twinkling down on her. A breeze stirred, blowing her long hair out behind her. Sighing, she moved to stand next to a tree that was full of cherry blossoms.

This was not the first night she stood out here. Nor would it be the last until she figured out what was wrong with her. The eighteen year old had no idea what it was exactly that kept her up. She suspected that it had something to do with her loneliness. Day after day, Rei watched her friends and their lovers share tender moments and inside jokes. Even Minako, who seemed to have a new guy or girl each day, at least had someone. Here she was, with no one. It was heartbreaking to think about it. Lost in thought, Rei did not hear anyone approaching until a hand rested on her shoulder.

Letting out a yelp she whirled, hands up incase it was a attack. When she saw it was only Minako, she lowered her hands and pressed one against her racing heart, “Mina-chan…don’t do that! You just scared ten years off my life.”

Minako giggled, her crystal blue eyes dancing in amusement, “Gomen Rei-chan. I didn’t mean to scare you. Maybe if you weren’t so lost in thought, I wouldn’t have. Dreaming over Yuuichirou again? Honestly Rei-chan, why don’t you just ask him out already and do yourself a favor?”

Rei scowled and turned back to enter the temple once more, “No Mina-chan, I was not dreaming over Yuuichirou. You know full well that he’s seeing someone who isn’t me.”

The golden haired self proclaimed love goddess shook her head as she followed the priestess back inside, “Yes I know. But maybe if you hadn’t been so slow, you could have him to yourself.”

“I don’t want him to myself. I don’t see him like that. Yuuichirou is like a older brother to me.”

“He is now that he’s gotten over that crush he had on you.”

“Yeah and? Not everyone is meant to be happy like you and the others. If it is my place to be alone, then so be it.” Rei snapped stepping into her bedroom. Stepping over the sleeping bag Minako was sleeping in, she sank onto her bed, her eyes hooded. Minako watched her friend with a worried expression and thought. She didn’t think she had ever seen Rei this depressed. Maybe flaunting their lovers in front of her when she had no one wasn’t the best thing to do. However, she got a devilish look in her eyes, maybe there was something she could do for her lonely friend.

Moving towards Rei, she sat next to her and rested a hand on her shoulder, “Rei-chan, I know that one day you will find your true love. But can I ask you something?”

Rei looked up at her friend, not noticing the impish gleam in her eyes, “What Mina-chan?”

Minako coughed delicately and phrased her question as nicely as she could, “Well, are you a virgin?” At Rei’s shocked expression she nodded, “That’s what I thought.”

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN, THAT’S WHAT YOU THOUGHT? WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!?!” Rei exploded, her right eye twitching dangerously.

Minako smirked, “Well nothing really. I was just curious. So you haven’t been with a guy or a girl?

Rei’s temper deflated as she fought to contain the blush that raged across her face. Looking away from her blonde friend she mumbled, “No….”

“Maybe that’s the problem. Instead of searching for your true love, you should just go out there and have a little fun.”

“Mina-chan,” Rei said turning to her friend, the blush faint across her cheeks, “I can’t do that. I’m not like you. I just can’t sleep with some stranger.”

Minako pursed her lips in a way that reminded Rei of Luna lecturing Usagi and she couldn’t stop the snort of laughter that escaped. Minako gave her a well practiced glare and said, “First off, I don’t just sleep with strangers. I have you know I’ve only been with three people and I dated them several times before having sex with them. That’s what I suggest you do. Just date around and see where it takes you.”

Rei sighed, “Its not as easy as you make it sound. For the sake of the Goddess, I haven’t ever really kissed someone!”

Minako’s eyes widened in shock as she stared at her violet eyed friend, “Not even Yuuichirou?”

“No, not even him.” Rei confirmed.

Minako was momentarily speechless as she considered this. She had known that Rei was a virgin and had never even fooled around with a guy or girl, but still? To be eighteen and never even kissed? Why it was astounding. Well there had to be something she could do to help with that. Smiling as her idea shifted into a new one, she reached out to touch Rei’s cheek and commented casually, “You know, I could help you with that.”

Rei’s eyes became the size of saucers when the meaning of Minako’s words sank in. The priestess knew that Minako was interested in girls and never had a problem with it, not with Haruka and Michiru being a couple, but still. She was shocked by what Minako was suggesting. But through the shock, she began to look at her friend in a different light. What would it be like to kiss those full tempting lips? To feel them against her own? To caress them lovingly with her tongue. A blush turned her cheeks a rosy red and Minako of course noticed it and smirked.

Leaning closer, Minako whispered huskily into Rei’s ear, “Well? What do you say?”

Rei gulped at the sudden nearness and turned to look at her. Immediately she regretted doing that because that put her lips a mere inch away from Minako’s. Staring into the blue of her friend’s eyes, Rei wondered why she never noticed the flecks of sky blue that danced across Minako’s eyes. Minako noticed the change in Rei’s eyes and leaned closer, pressing her lips softly against Rei’s.

Rei gasped and pulled back softly, startled by the softness of Minako’s lips. Minako merely gazed at her friend, invitation in her eyes and body movements. Rei hesitated a second, then leaned in and kissed her again. This time it wasn’t soft or gently. Rei liked what she tasted and yearned for more. Her lips were urgent and hard against Minako’s, eliciting a low moan from the blonde goddess. Encouraged by this, her tongue gently parted Minako’s lips and brushed up against hers.

Rei felt like her body was on fire and that Minako was the only one who could put it out. Her arms came up to wrap around Minako pulling her closer, or as close as she could get with them both sitting up. Minako’s hand came up and entangled itself in Rei’s long locks. Both women were caught up in the whirl of passion that was brought on by a single kiss. Minako broke the kiss this time panting softly as she stared at Rei, wonder in her eyes. Sputtering, the raven hair woman was silent for several minutes before speaking, “Minako…”

The blonde gripped Rei carefully by the shoulders and tugged the robe she wore off, revealing a spaghetti strapped, low cut, short, rather revealing nightie. Her blood roared in her veins as she took in the sight of her beautiful friend. Gently Minako pushed Rei back on the bed and moved to straddle her. “I have but I never thought.” Rei managed to mutter.

“And that love, is your problem, you never think. Silly goose.” Minako murmured. Rei started to say more but Minako held up a finger, “No, I don’t care if you love me or don’t ever want to be with me again. I am happy knowing I gave you something you needed and wanted. That’s enough for me.”

Rei rolled her eyes and pulled Minako down roughly and glared at her, “What I was going to say was that I think I always knew that I loved you to. Silly goose.” Minako giggled, which was silenced by Rei’s lips taking hers in a deep passionate kiss.
