Sankakkei

"Augh!" She punctuated the exasperated cry by slamming the door.
"Something wrong?" a cool voice asked.
She unclenched her hands and stood up straight, forcing the grimace from her face. Furious blue eyes met calm green ones. "Nani?"
"I said, 'Something wrong?'"
"No," she said, throwing her chin in the air. Striding as casually as possible, she went to where the other sat.
"Could have fooled me."
"If you think so, why did you ask?"
"It was an invitation." Green eyes snapped.
"It was a prod."
"Will you two cut it out?"
Both gave the newcomer a scathing glance. Seiya's eyes widened and she glanced away. (Please not now. I don't need this now.)
"Seiya started it." Yaten pouted, crossing her arms.
Seiya scowled. "I did not! You did!"
"I was trying to be nice."
"You were trying to butt into my life."
Yaten jumped up. "You're just being touchy," she snapped and walked out.
Taiki watched her go then glanced at Seiya. She sat on the couch, arms crossed, glaring at the coffee table.
"Seiya, daijoubu?" she asked, walking over.
"I'm fine," she ground out.
Taiki sighed, sitting next to Seiya. "Seiya, you're not yourself. You've been jumpy and touchy for a while now. Something's not right."
Seiya panicked. "I'll tell you what's not right!" she yelled, jumping up. "You two butting into my life! That's what's not right!"
"We're just trying to help! That's what friends do!"
"Then maybe I don't want to be friends with you two any more!" she said and ran to her room, hair flying behind her.
Taiki waited until the door slammed and walked to Seiya’s room. She leaned against the wall next to her door. “Seiya, whatever is wrong, I want you to know that you can come to me whenever you feel like it.”
Behind the door, Seiya’s squeezed her eyes shut.
“I’ll help you however I can,” Taiki continued. “You’re my friend Seiya, and I want to see you happy.” She turned and walked away.
Seiya stood on the other side, staring at the door. Suddenly, she leaned against it, tears running down her face.
“Taiki,” she whispered and sank to the floor, sobs racking her body.

A few days later

Taiki looked out over the gardens under her balcony. She loved to sit out here and watch the sun coat everything in gold. It was a morning ritual for her.
She took a sip of tea, her eyes running over the vast array of flowers. Her brow furrowed. Seiya crouched behind a bush, peering around the corner, staring at…
Taiki’s glance danced away. Seiya was staring at her. Her skin prickled. Why was Seiya watching her?

Yaten strolled through the gardens. She didn’t especially like flowers, but she needed fresh air. It was only morning, and already she felt suffocated.
She tensed as she heard a scuffling sound in front of her. She looked and saw Seiya leaning out from the side of a bush. She was leaning out so far that she suddenly fell. Scrambling, she catapulted herself to the bush across the path, leaves flying.
Yaten had to clap a hand to her mouth to keep from laughing. Then she came to her senses. Why was Seiya sneaking around the gardens?

Seiya sighed. It had been a scary moment, but she thought Taiki hadn’t seen her.
Suddenly she heard footsteps. An intense look of fear crossed her face. If someone caught her watching… She tried to fuse her body with the bush behind her.
The footsteps passed by. Seiya unscrewed her eyes and crept forward. (Who…?) She looked around the corner and down the path. (No one…)
Her gaze traveled back to its previous interest. “Taiki…” she breathed.
“What are you doing?”
Seiya jumped. She turned, guiltily. “N… nothing. Just walking around the garden. Looking at the flowers,” she said, touching the closest flower for emphasis. She drew her hand back scowling at the rose and its thorns that her finger had found. She put the injured finger in her mouth.
Forcing a look of innocence, she asked around the damaged finger, “Hawr aroub roo?”
Yaten gave her a hard look. “I needed some air. So, I decided to take a walk.”
Seiya stepped back, finger forgotten. She didn’t like the way Yaten was looking at her. “Oh, what a coincidence.” She gave a weak laugh.
“Yeah. Shall we walk together?” Yaten asked, motioning for Seiya to go first.
“Um… I think I’ll just stay here for a while. The roses are so nice this morning.”
“Fine with me,” Yaten intoned, taking up stance next to Seiya.
Seiya sighed.

The next week

After finding Seiya watching her, Taiki became curious. She tried talking to Seiya, but Seiya only became nervous and jumpy and eventually excused herself and left.
She happened upon her conclusion by accident. She had been lying on her bed, analyzing Seiya’s behavior. It had flashed for a second, and she pushed it aside, laughing. But it kept coming back. It wouldn’t go away.
Finally, she drew it out, seriously thinking about it. She remembered the past few weeks and Seiya’s actions. The way she acted around Taiki, nervous and jumpy. Never staying in the same room with her for more than a few seconds. Watching her. She had even caught Seiya following her. It had never really bothered her, until now.
Now it all pointed to the same thing: Seiya liked her.
She wanted to see in her conclusion was true. Did she really like her? Or was it an overworked imagination?
She had suggested that the three of them watch a movie together tonight. She was surprised when Seiya accepted. She sat between the both of them now. She had no idea that sitting this close to Seiya would affect her so. Her body felt like a tightly coiled spring.
Thinking so much about Seiya had had a great affect on Taiki. She had dreamed about Seiya many times. Taiki sighed. (Those dreams. Oh, the dreams…) Her skin heated as the thought. To have Seiya touch her like that…
At first she thought it was her long abstinence, but when she imagined others touching her like that, nothing. Only thoughts of Seiya did it. Only Seiya…
She became unbearably hot. She stopped the movie and stood. “I’m going to get a drink. Anyone want anything?”
“No, thanks,” Yaten answered.
Seiya only shook her head.
Taiki turned and walked to the kitchen.

Seiya watched her go. Her confused mind tried to make comprehensible thoughts. (So lovely… her swaying hips…She’s your friend!… soft skin…She’s a girl!… kiss her…)

Yaten caught her breath at the look on Seiya’s face. Such a look of… hunger. Her eyes narrowed.

Taiki returned. She resumed her seat and started the movie again, putting the remote on her thigh.

The movie played unnoticed by Yaten. She was lost in her own thoughts. (Seiya wants Taiki?)
She fought the thought that tried to invade her conscience. She didn’t want to think it. It broke through her mental barrier anyway.
(Why not me?)
She cringed inwardly. How could she think such a thing? They were her friends. She should support them. Be happy for them.
(But why not me?)
She drew her legs up under her. Why Taiki and not her? She closed her eyes and pictured Taiki. Tall, long legs, toned body. Silky brown hair, exotic violet eyes. Smart, romantic… Taiki was so much better than her. She could see why Seiya liked her.
She was nothing compared to Taiki. Short, weird white hair, normal green eyes. She wasn’t smart. Her unkind memory recalled the times she had been curt and sarcastic to them. Tears pricked her eyes.

Taiki tried to concentrate on the movie and failed miserably. She berated herself. (You thought you were going to make Seiya nervous! You’re the one that’s nervous, and Seiya hasn’t even done anything!!)
An image on Seiya above her, touching her, flashed in her head. A warmth started between her legs. She moved slightly to ease the exquisite pain.
The remote fell. She reached for it automatically. Her hand brushed Seiya’s thigh. The heat intensified, her body becoming a giant flame.

Seiya jumped. Electricity raced through her veins.
“Something wrong?” Taiki asked.
“No,” Seiya answered, crossing her arms over taunt nipples. “Just a chill.” She prayed silently that Taiki couldn’t hear her heart beating.

Taiki sat stock still, trying not to move, to touch her anymore. Her heart was still racing from touching her. Her breath came out in controlled gusts. She clenched her shaking hands in her lap. She felt tense, jumpy.

Seiya’s mind was in turmoil. She didn’t see the movie anymore. (I can’t take much more of this. If she moves, I’ll snap!)
She stood up. Taiki looked at her quizzically. Seiya realized she was just standing there. She had decided to leave, but not where to go.
“I have to… go to the bathroom.” She explained and bolted down the hall.

Taiki watched Seiya run down the hall. (Did she feel that? She feels what I feel?)

Yaten caught sight of Taiki’s face. Her heart cracked. The same look. The same hunger. Taiki wanted Seiya.
She stood up. “This movie is boring. I’m going to bed.” She walked down the opposite hall, tears flowing down her face.

Once in the safety of the bathroom, Seiya splashed cold water on her face. (Calm down. Cool. Calm.) She took a few deep breaths. Looking at herself in the mirror, she chastised herself. (Stop it. You cannot do this. She would never -)
“You okay?”
Seiya jumped. “Uh… yeah. Just flossing.” She grimaced. (Flossing?)
“Okay,” Taiki said in a confused voice. “You’ll miss the rest of the movie.”
“I’ll be out in a minute.” She heard Taiki walk away. Her breath rushed out in a gust.
She dried her face and thought, (I can’t run in here every time she accidentally touches me. She probably already thinks I have problems. I don’t need to make it worse.)

“All better. Nothing in my teeth.” She smiled real big as she walked in. Vaguely she noticed that Yaten was gone.
Taiki stood. “Good. Not that it matters. I’m going to kiss you anyway.”
Seiya’s feet stopped in mid-step. Taiki walked towards her. Seiya couldn’t move. Hands reached up to her face.
Taiki looked into startled blue eyes. Slowly, she drew Seiya’s face close to her own. Gently, she brushed her lips across Seiya’s trembling mouth. She drew her tongue across those same lips then slid it inside Seiya’s warm mouth, molding their lips together.
She felt hands snake around her back. Mentally smiling, she deepened the kiss. Her hands slid around Seiya’s back, pulling her closer.
Seiya danced back, shocked. Unbelief and confusion clouded her face. “Taiki?” The name was just above a whisper, but it was strong as steel. Seiya conveyed all her emotions in that one name.
Taiki returned Seiya’s gaze, letting her feelings show. She wanted Seiya to know how she felt. To know what she wanted. Needed.
Their faces drifted together. Seiya’s hands cupped Taiki’s face. She copied Taiki’s earlier movements, brushing her lips across Taiki’s. She gently kissed her cheek, her chin, and made her way down Taiki’s neck. Seiya returned her gaze to Taiki’s face.
Her hands moved down over Taiki’s chest slowly, grazing hardened nipples. Taiki sucked in her breath, grabbing Seiya’s shoulders. Seiya’s hands continued their descent, going over a flat stomach and sliding between slightly parted legs.
Seiya snatched her hand away, shocked that she would do such a thing to her friend. Taiki grabbed Seiya’s hand and brought it back, rubbing it against her heated groin. She gasped with pleasure at finally feeling Seiya touch her. Even through her pants, the touch was wonderful. Smiling, she slid her free hand between Seiya’s legs, rubbing in time with her other hand.
It was Seiya’s turn to gasp. Taiki was touching her! It was too good to be true. Seiya stepped closer. Taiki let go of Seiya’s hand and held her around the waist.
Seiya started rubbing faster, and Taiki followed suit. Both girls moaned. Taiki captured Seiya’s lips in a fierce kiss.

They jumped apart as a door opened. Quickly, they sat on the couch.
Yaten walked in to see them sitting on the couch staring at a blue TV screen. She looked at Taiki. “Taiki, I’m sorry for saying your movie was boring. Gomen nasai.”
Taiki smiled. “It’s okay, Yaten. Next time we’ll watch something you like.”
Yaten smiled, shyly. She bowed. “Oyasuminasai.”
Taiki nodded.
Both girls relaxed as the door closed.
Taiki turned to Seiya, an unspoken question on her face.
Seiya wouldn’t meet her gaze. She cleared her throat. “I think I’m going to go to bed.” She stood up and walked to her room.
Taiki watched her go. She sighed and went to her own room.

Author’s notes: I was asked if there was a sequel to Yaten’s Journal. Well, um, no. She killed herself. But here’s the prequel, I guess. I wrote this before Yaten’s Journal and then went off on a tangent when I put in the part about Yaten leaving, crying because she wanted to be wanted.
This isn’t finished, of course. More to come.
As always, review please. All reviews welcome. Even flames. Flamers are funny. Especially flamers who don’t have the guts to give a signed review. *cuts eyes at ULTRAnormalMAN* Heh.
