Tonight Then

Summary:Kaidoh does things to be with the one he loves.
Disclaimer:I don’t own Prince of Tennis. Not at all.
Warning:
Author’s Note:It was getting pretty long, so I cut it up into chapters. I meant for this to be a one shot.

Kaidoh didn’t know where it came from, the longing, the desire, but he liked the feeling it gave him. The yearning in his heart to be close, the fire he felt that could only be equal to an amazing match of tennis -

He tilted his head back and pressed closer, letting the tongue slid further into his mouth. He wasn’t going to fight this, no. He’d been doing that for too long and if he’d let it go on he would have lost. He would have lost this.

His Akutsu Jin.

It was raining hard, but Kaidoh didn’t mind. They were secure under the shadow of the small awning at the back of his Mother’s shop, the raven haired boy pressing the other into the wall.

He wasn’t supposed to be here. Not today. Not for a week or so. Jin was grounded. Again. Even as a high school student the Akuma couldn’t stay out of trouble, but Kaidoh didn’t mind. They heard footsteps and Kaidoh pulled away, pulling down his black uniform and running his hand through his damp hair.

He’d run into rain trying to get here and Akutsu had smirked, asking if he wanted to get out of his wet clothes.

Akutsu Jin hadn’t changed since middle school. He was still tall, he was still brash, he would still kick your ass for telling him what to do. He smoked, he cursed, he frightened small children. Kaidoh didn’t mind. That was apart of his charm.

It’d been a shock really for Kaidoh to even discover Akutsu. Apparently the Yamabuki graduate had been accepted into Seishun High and had been going there a whole year when Kaidoh arrived. He would have never known he’d existed if not for the disdainful growl of “Hey Mamushi, where’s that fuck Momoshiro?”

They’d disliked each other instantly and while Kaidoh usually respected his Senpais, he and Akutsu got into it almost every other day, nearly leading to Kaidoh’s suspension from the tennis team. The administration ordered immediate reconciliation between them so they’d settled it the only way they knew how.

Tennis.

Kaidoh wasn’t the same old Kaidoh. He still kept up his training, now without the everyday help of Inui (it was more like monthly) and had secured and held his position as a Seigaku regular and Captain. He wasn’t perhaps a tensai or Tezuka-buchou, but he’d held his own, getting the team to the Nationals even if they had been beaten by a very vengeful Rikkaidai.

They’d played hard and in the end, Kaidoh had lost on a technicality. His racket, both of them, had broken.

So they’d try to settle it another way, a way that Akutsu had preferred in the beginning.

With fists.

And like the tennis match, it’d gone well too...until some bratty kids called over some adults and they’d had to high tail it.

They’d rested on the grass near the river, Kaidoh using his bandana to wipe blood from his mouth. He’d told Akutsu he hated him in the clearest terms, using more profanity than he ever had in his life and Akutsu just stared at him, waiting till he finished. In the end, Akutsu said three words that hooked him.

“Come with me.”

Ordinary words that Kaidoh should have said no to. But he saw Akutsu’s eyes. Burning yes, with passion, with fire, but gentle at the same time. Staring right at him.

Boys were no stranger to Kaidoh. His second year, he’d had his first relationship with his Senpai, it ending when in fact the Mamushi discovered he was data. It hadn’t bothered him one bit, but he’d told Inui that he wouldn’t continue with him and his Senpai understood. His senior year, he and Momoshiro, his fukubucho, had stopped arguing long enough to do two things: Manage the team and fuck like there was no tomorrow. It wasn’t exactly a relationship as they still fought all the time, but now frustrations were worked out in the bedroom so that the team could work better.

He’d gone with Akutsu and let the older boy fix him up and they’d drank together, also not Kaidoh’s first time sneaking sake, and shared heated kisses in the half light of the older boy’s tv.

After that, Kaidoh had written it off as hormones and Sake and left it alone, till Akutsu had began seeking him out. Coming to find him at lunch, wanting to talk with him on the roof, watching him at matches, coming to find him at lunch so they could make out on the roof, that sort of thing. And eventually, Kaidoh decided that yeah, the Akuma was it for him. It wasn’t a blushing smiling “I love you” thing. They weren’t that way, though sometimes Akutsu was nice and sometimes Kaidoh blushed. Sometimes being all of a month and something like that.

And now, Akutsu looked at the door as it opened, his mother coming out to frown at the silver haired boy.

“Jin. I said you’re not allowed visitors.”

The Akuma growled and glared at the woman. “I’ll do what the fuck I want!”

“Go to your room!” she said, frustrated. She looked at Kaidoh and shook her head. She was happy that her son actually had a decent friend, but was less than pleased when she found that Kaidoh didn’t nothing to curb the teenager’s behavior.

“Have a nice walk home Kaidoh-kun.” she said dismissively.

Kaidoh bowed, wanting to smile as she knew Akutsu had probably already left the house. “Konbanwa...” he muttered, going back out into the rain.

He ran about five steps before Akutsu stepped out of the front of the café with an umbrella. Kaidoh smirked. It probably belonged to a customer.

They walked for sometime, no real direction.

“You want to get out of that uniform?” Akutsu said, nothing in his tone.

“It’s almost dinner time.”

“Your family is fucked up. I’ll see you later then.”

Kaidoh stopped and took the umbrella. “At least until we get to my house. You can borrow my umbrella.”

“Hn.”

At Kaidoh’s house it went as planned. Kaidoh kept the stolen umbrella and gave Akutsu his own, watching the other boy disappear into the night rain.

The Mamushi went in to his family to have his dinner and explain about the day, telling them he was going out later. They thought he had a girlfriend in addition to training. They also thought it was great that he’d made friends with his Senpai again and wondered when he’d bring him by the house.

He wanted to tell them that Akutsu had been here plenty of times and that Akutsu was his boyfriend and that they’d been together in that way and that his new Senpai had had his way with their precious “Kaoru” right on the dining room floor.

But he didn’t.

It wasn’t about them.

Akutsu stared at the ceiling while his mother lectured him. He knew and she knew he wasn’t listening, she just had to go through the motions. It wasn’t like he was a bad student, it wasn’t like he didn’t do his chores. Hell, he even helped at the shop sometimes, cooking shit in the back when the normal guys were off or sick, but no, here she went lecturing.

“And I don’t want you smoking in your room or at all! Understand?”

“Wakarimasu.” he muttered, hands behind his head. Fuck, he was thinking about taking a smoke right now.

“And I wish you’d stop trying to corrupt that Kaidoh. He’s a good boy! Why can’t you be more like him? You should try to get inside his head, see what makes him succeed.

He wanted to tell her, “But Kaa-san, I have been inside him. It’s wonderful.” But he couldn’t. She’d probably have kittens.

“Do you hear me Jin?”

“Hai.” he said, deciding he’d skip tonight’s dinner lecture as well.

“Now what do you want for dinner?”

“Nothing.” He sat up and went to his closet, pulling some jean shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt. “I’m going.”

“No you aren’t! You’re grounded -.”

“I’m not ten anymore. Shut up.” He changed pants and snatched his cigarettes, shoving them in his pocket. He put on a new shirt and went over to his mother, kissing her cheek. “I’ll be back before midnight.”

He finished changing and left, his Mother going back downstairs to work.

Before all that kissing had began, Akutsu growled something about a party. Kaidoh didn’t like parties. He didn’t like the chance that Akutsu might try some sort of public affection with him. Not that he’d mind. That was a lie, he did mind. That much of old Kaidoh survived. Sure at school he spoke now, made an effort to be slightly less scary, but he was still polite to people. He still hissed when the mood hit him. Akutsu thought it was hilarious and would purposely find public places for them to make out. It freaked the hell out of Kaidoh until he realized that Akutsu wasn’t stupid and the place he’d picked was just private enough so he could get what he wanted out of the Mamushi. The other boy knew about him enough to see that. He knew if certain conditions were met, Kaidoh was his.

Like at school. He knew Kaidoh wasn’t about to let him force him against a locker and make out, so he’d resorted to smaller things like, running his hand in his hair under the guise of a smack against the head, or hugging him under the guise of twisting his arm around his back.

Kaidoh stared in his mirror then down at his dresser. He could wear the blue bandana or the black one.

So far, it’d taken him an hour to get dressed simply because he was nervous. He’d been hissing non-stop. He didn’t like parties. His father said, chuckling, that parties were apart of highschool and college and he was happy to see Kaidoh getting out there to socialize. Kaidoh felt like he was lying. He wasn’t really getting out there. Akutsu wanted to go and he wanted to be with Akutsu so he was going with Akutsu.

There was a knock at his door and he went to answer it.

“Hai?”

It was Hazue.

“Aniki, your boyfriend is downstairs.”

Kaidoh reddened. “Hazue, don’t be so disrespectful.”

The boy just smiled and went away to his room. He thought it was cute that his big brother had another boyfriend. He’d liked them all so far. Inui talked to him about science things and played video games, Momoshiro knew all the coolest things and played video games, and Akutsu was teaching him how to hit and not leave a bruise...and played video games!

Kaidoh went downstairs to find Akutsu lounging in the foyer. “Akutsu-sen.” -He stopped himself. He’d started that senpai stuff after they’d reconciled and started dating. “Jin.”

Akutsu looked up and smirked. “You look fuckable.”

“Fwshuuuu.” Kaidoh turned red, but only for a moment. “Sorry, I’m not ready yet.”

“Hn.” Akutsu followed him upstairs, nodding to Hazue who watched from his bedroom.

In Kaidoh’s room, Akutsu sat on the bed and looked through Kaidoh’s tennis magazines. “Ne, Kaoru...”

“Hai?” Kaidoh was now looking at three bandanas.

“You want to drink sake with me tonight?”

“...I don’t know. I don’t really like drinking.”

Akutsu looked up. “You drink with me all the time.”

“Only because...” he turned red. “Never mind.”

Akutsu looked back at the magazines. “Might not be sake...you like beer right? We’ll see.” the boy looked up again. “Don’t bother with the bandana Kaidoh.”

Kaidoh picked the black one and tied it on, Akutsu deciding that it looked alright. Kaidoh wasn’t one for show, but when he did get dressed, he always looked good. The boy was wearing some low rise jeans and a dark green sleeveless t-shirt.

He felt arms around him and fought the urge to blush. He really liked this. It felt like Jin was all around him -which he was, but this way he really felt warm and -

“Ne, mamushi...” the boy whispered, leaning down to kiss him.

Kaidoh decided it was as good as “I love you” and pulled away. “Let’s go.”
