A/N: This is
a slash story, so if you don't like that don't read it. This is my
first time writing Hellsing and since I've only seen the anime so
far, the story will mostly be based on that. Feedback would be very
much appreciated to help me get better and keep the story as in
character as possible. I also need a beta reader, so if anybody is up
for the job, just contact me.
Chapter
1 – Fallen Angel
They
were just pulling him out of the wrecked helicopter when the sky was
lit by the ice-blue fire of the ancient snake. Even though pain was
shooting through every fiber of his being Walter couldn't keep the
slight smile off his face as he spotted the dark silhouette facing
the creature. Alucard.
How
he would have loved to see the dark-haired Immortal unleash his
power, to see him smite Incognito with it
as if he was nothing, but sadly it wasn't to be. Darkness was already
looming at the edges of his conscience,
threatening him with unconsciousness. His
vision was growing fuzzy as they loaded him into the ambulance, the
dark shape of Alucard and the ice-blue light of Incognito turning
into an unrecognizable blur.
The
pain was still everywhere in his body, but it was slowly giving way
to numbness, making him feel as if he was floating. Maybe his time in
this world was finally over. The bitterness that suddenly welled up
in him was unexpected in it's fierceness, although he had felt it
before.
Now
he regretted the choice he made in the past, his refusal of
immortality. Walter would have liked to catch a last glance at
Alucard, but all he saw were white blurry shapes bustling around him
before the oblivion of unconsciousness
swallowed him, a single tear of loss leaking from his eyes.

Alucard
looked at the prone, speared body of Incognito,
a smirk spreading over his features. That had been the most fun he
had had since he was released again. Someone worthy of being
destroyed by his power. But now that his task was fulfilled
he could focus on the one thing that really
mattered to him.
Walter,
his longtime friend, his past lover, his beloved, his Angel of Death.
Even
while he had been engaged in the fight with Incognito one of his many
eyes had been trained on the Hellsing steward, had watched the
helicopter catch on fire and fall down. And he had also seen the face
of the human who had dared to shoot his angel from the sky.
Rage
once again boiled up in him as he thought about the worthless mortal
who had managed to injure his Angel, something that no vampire Walter
had fought against in the past had ever managed. But he would pay,
both for hurting Walter and for making Alucard feel a fear he had
almost forgotten, the fear of losing someone he treasured.
But
Walter was strong and had escaped the twisted
metal wrapping around his body, bruised and
battered but still alive. Now he was lying in a hospital bed, still
unconscious. And Alucard would be there
when he finally woke up again, but until then he had things to do.
His
body dissolved into shadows, momentarily obscuring the blood-red moon
that painted London with a dangerous glow, the sinister smile spread
over the Immortals face a silent promise of tears and blood and pain.

It was ridiculously easy to
find the mortal who was responsible for his Angel's injuries. The
young soldier was sitting in a bar, laughing and joking with his
friends. Alucard could feel his anger increase as he listened to him
bragging about expertly shooting down the helicopter and soaking up
the admiration of his friends.
Had anybody looked into the darkest corner of the bar,
where Alucard was hidden, they would have seen two red eyes glow in
the dark, sparkling with malice and barely concealed blood-lust.
Alucard would have liked to just rip the human to shreds right there,
but it would cause too much of a scene and he wanted to avoid his
master's displeasure.
Patience had never been his strongest side in the past,
but over the centuries he had gotten better at it. So he waited until
the group of soldiers finally got up from their table, leaving the
bar and walking down the streets, noisy and graceless like most
humans. The helicopter pilot was too drunk on success
and beer to notice the dark shadow following him.
Entering his small apartment he locked his door and
turned around, just to come face to face with a red-clad man he had
never seen before. Shocked he drew his gun, demanding the stranger to
identify himself or he would shoot.
A dangerous grin spreading over his face Alucard
stepped out of the shadows and lifted his head, revealing what had
been hidden before. His fangs were bared and his eyes glowed
fiercely, two red flames in the dim room. The bittersweet tang of
fear invaded the air as the bullets ripped through his body, leaving
holes that healed in the blink of an eye.
Laughing at the disbelieving, shocked look on the
human's face Alucard moved, capturing the mortal's wrists in an iron
grip. Bones ground together and while his
gun clattered to the ground a whimper of pain escaped the young man's
lips. Alucard wrinkled his nose in disgust as the sharp smell of
urine filled the air, mixing with the fear that permeated the whole
room.
“W...W...What do y...y...you w...w...want?”
The mortal's voice trembled with a mixture of pain and fear,
prompting the vampire to grip his wrists a little tighter as his
smirk widened, the sound of snapping bones filling the otherwise
silent apartment.
“I'm here to punish you for hurting my Angel.”
Alucard could read the confusion in the young man's mind, followed by
flashes of women he had slept with and some of his past jobs. Angered
that he didn't even think about the helicopter he had shot down the
Immortal clarified his meaning. “You
dared to shoot my Angel from the sky.”
Comprehension dawning on his face the mortal spoke:
“Hey, I was just doing my job.” The fear had mostly
vanished from his voice, the belief that he had done the right thing
filling it instead. “Besides those terrorists deserved no
better.”
The scream that tore from his throat immediately
afterwards was echoing in the silent room, blood pouring from the
gashes Alucard had torn into his chest. Both his wrists were now
enclosed in one of the vampire's hands, while the other had grasped
his chin, the bones easily yielding to the inhuman force.
“Worthless scum like you shouldn't talk like
this, but you will learn respect before we are finished here.”
And then screams filled the room as Alucard stepped back and allowed
his shadows to encase the young man. Death was far too mild a
punishment for having hurt his Angel.

Alucard disinterestedly
brushed flakes of dried blood off his pristine, white gloves as he
stepped out of the soldier's apartment. He cast a last look at the
human, huddled together on the ground and mumbling nonsense, his body
shaking in fear.
Weak and worthless like most humans. His mind easily
broken by the horrors his shadows had revealed. Alucard only knew one
human who had looked at his darkness and not drawn back in fear, but
then again Walter was special in so many ways.
Looking up at the moon a smile spread over Alucard's
face. A wonderful night. And now that Incognito was dead and his
thirst for revenge was sated he could finally take his place at his
Angel's side. Focusing his mind on the
hospital Walter was at the Immortal dissolved into a swarm of bats,
dark wings momentarily obscuring the moon.
