Chapter 1
Toutetsu watched with a
growing scowl as the cop openly flirted with the obviously oblivious Count. It
didn’t matter that D wasn’t responding to him – it was the fact that he had the
gall to do it at all that rankled so badly.
He probably
found it funny that D had no idea what was going on. The arrogant blond
jackass… if he thought he could get away with it, he would follow him when he
left tonight and have himself a snack… He’d taste like cigarettes and
watered-down beer, but it would be worth it to get rid of him…
Leon stretched,
showing off his muscles to great advantage. D didn’t notice. Toutetsu sneered as the human’s arm drifted nearer, then
lashed out and sank his fangs into the soft flesh. Yes, he still tasted gross…
“Hey! Damn goat! Let go!”
D smiled a
little and stood up; Toutetsu refused to let go,
despite Leon shaking his
arm, until D wrapped his arms around him as though he really were the animal he
appeared to Leon
to be. With a growl, he accompanied D to the other couch and sat beside him,
still fixing Leon
with the cold glare.
“Is it just me,
or is he more violent than usual?” Leon was holding his arm to stop
the bleeding. It wasn’t that bad, in Toutetsu’s
opinion. He could have ripped his arm off.
D’s hand ran
lightly through his hair. “You should know by now to stay out of his reach,” he
said with a slight smile. Leon
grumbled a bit, but he didn’t refute the fact. He really should have known
better by now. Toutetsu got a mouthful of him at
every opportunity. Leon Orcot was the bastard who
cost him his human form, after all, his ability to
stalk his prey like one of them… and that was besides the obvious reasons for
disliking him.
“You should keep it in a cage,” Leon said
crossly. “Before I get a judge’s order to have it put down. It’s dangerous.”
Toutetsu growled audibly and tried to lunge forward to rip
the human’s fucking balls off – put him down? He’d been putting humans
down for decades!
D’s hand in his
hair, though it probably still looked like petting, became firm enough to
restrain him. He didn’t seem to like the idea any more, though. “Euthanization is a despicable habit of humans who find an
animal inconvenient,” he said, “and there will be no talk of it here.”
In Toutetsu’s opinion, there was somebody in the room
that needed euthanized, but it sure wasn’t him…
Leon looked at
D for a moment. “Whatever,” he finally said. “Just keep that thing away from
me.” He leaned forward, likely for cake, only to find the entire thing gone and
D mysteriously finishing off a piece that seemed like his first but must have
been his fourth or fifth. D didn’t seem to notice, though Toutetsu
knew that this time it was just an act. Sneaky. This human would have to be a
lot faster than that if he wanted to catch D… In any sense of the word.
With a slightly
chagrined expression, he rested his elbows on his knees and leaned forward. Toutetsu growled – he was not a fan of him being in such
close proximity to D – but the Count was still restraining him gently, and he
didn’t make the move he wanted to to rip Leon’s face
off, little smile and all.
“I know this
might be a little weird,” he said, little apologetic smile still in place. It
changed to reflect the fact that saying that something was weird to D was fairly ludicrous. “There’s a new ice cream place that just
opened up, though, and I figured maybe you’d like to check it out. My treat.”
He growled
again, but D ignored him. “I’d love to!” he said, eyes shining with the promise
of a new treat. Traitor… Leon was stealing D in the
admittedly most efficient but lowest and most underhanded way… Through his
stomach. He couldn’t allow it! For this measly human to think he was worthy of so much as touching D…
“Great!” Leon said, and
stood up. “So I’ll see you tomorrow… I’ve got to get to work.” D stood and
escorted him to the door, leaving Toutetsu on the
couch to stew, grinding his fangs and planning grievous bodily harm to visit
upon Leon…
He was on his
feet before D had the chance to say anything when he returned. “He’s trying to
seduce you,” he said darkly.
“Really?” D
didn’t seem much surprised. “I hadn’t noticed.”
“It’s obvious.” The
words sounded a lot like a growl, and he grabbed D’s arm as he bent to clear
off the table. D looked at him, startled. “I’m not going to let him.”
D smoothly slid
his arm out of his grip. “You don’t need to worry about me. I’m in no danger of
being seduced by our dear Detective Orcot.”
Toutetsu couldn’t stop the growl that bubbled up in his
throat at the sound of the nickname. D once more seemed oblivious, and went
back to clearing up the remnants of teatime with that air of easy dismissal
that got on his nerves so badly. As though nothing he had to say was of any
real import…
He followed him
into the kitchen and grabbed his arm again, making him utter a sharp sound of
surprise and send the tray clattering down onto the counter, narrowly missing
shattering the expensive teacups.
“I’m not letting
him close to you,” he repeated, eyes narrowed. “I’m not letting anyone close to
what’s already mine.”
“‘Yours’?” D
asked, making no move to escape his grasp again. “I don’t recall being yours.”
“Did you think I
was just planning to eat you?” he demanded. “Do you think I spent that much
effort on my other meals? Did I shower them with rare treats and attention? No,
I didn’t. I never intended to kill you – I just wanted some of your blood. And you would have been mine, if your dear detective hadn’t
interrupted. You are mine, D.” He pulled him forward before he had a
chance to refute it and kissed him, not letting him pull away.
It took a moment
before D pushed him away, extracting his arm once more. “I’m not yours,” he
said calmly, going back to his cleaning as though nothing had happened. “And I
am not Leon’s.
I belong to no one.”
Toutetsu growled, turning and
stalking away from the room. D was his… he just didn’t know it yet.
