The Storyteller's Requiem
Requiem
Preamble: Fate’s Happy Ending
“Once upon a time…”; they are sugarcoated words opening a door to beautifully-written tale; a wonderland. A place filled with nothing but joy; nothing but adventure; and nothing but the wondrous world of a fairytale exists behind that wooden door.
Those four simple words are the key to dreams; the key to the dreams that soar high to the sky, wingless but agile. They open those skeptical eyes, and summon a world filled with magic and mystery. They invite you to a world where darkness is labeled and the light always flickers; a hope never to disappear. Now and never.
These tales are entertaining, embracing innocent children with inviting arms shrouded with nothing but wild dreams. They light a fire of excitement; a fire that burns so beatifically, so radiantly, that to be blinded is not to be shamed.
Such innocent, naïve dreams.
Of want. Of wish.
Nothing but a fairytale to be crushed by the fist of reality.
Because beneath that wondrous place of grasslands and happiness, I can feel those cold iron bars, mocking anyone who goes near them. So inviting… so tempting, to touch them is to be shamed, to loose, but oh so utterly and disgracefully human.
For beneath every fantasy, there is the harsh world of reality.
Bask in delusion, live in lies, dwell in its pleasure only to fall from dreams, to arise from slumber and to walk away frostbitten and dying from hunger.
Every dream bleeds, and every hope shatters. Like a dying heart, it misses a beat, it fails to function, it seeks not to hope, and drops dead to its gravestone. Every tale speaks of those times that happened once a long, long time ago, and to children’s delight, it speaks of wonders and of happy endings.
But as said before, there is a gate beneath that fairytale, and kick open those gates, and you’ll go numb, cold, frostbitten. Bask in the glory of all insanity, for in the end, there is no happy ending.
Live in delusion, be a glutton for hope but when those gates open, there’ll be nothing but lies. Such a cruel game does Fate play, but life is her game and Karma is her sword and shield. Destiny is her pen, and when those gates do open, there’ll be no “Happily ever after…”
Bask in all glory for how high you’ll reach, the lower you’ll fall. And fall from the heavens, those dreams shall, and burn into nothingness those fairytales will. Hope will flicker, No matter how much one has waited, there’ll always be what has faded.
For when you kick open those gates of insanity, there’ll be nothing but a brief period of life and fulfillment. Before everything crashes down, before everything breaks and crumbles and when children finally understand. There is no “Once upon a time…”, there is no dark and neither is there a light.
Until everyone ceases to hope.
There are no happy endings.
