Breaking the habit

Warnings: Yaoi, angst, self mutilation, and maybe some light fluff if I feel up to it.

It was Kiyotaka Narumi who offered the Blade Children their “hope.”

The man was perfect; a god in the eyes of everyone who he came across. There was nothing that man wasn’t capable of, and always, he accomplished what he set his mind to with hardly any effort at all. In society’s eyes, he was a savior; an inspiration of hope to all those who had lost what little they had. In Hizumi’s eyes, he was a murderer.

The creator and father of the cursed Blade Children had the luck of the devil, and even with the Hunters, once members of his own loyal organization, his luck won out in the end, and everything failed; from bullets to bombs. There was not one person who could send Mizutsuro Yaiba to a premature death. But of course, Kiyotaka Narumi wasn’t an ordinary person. The man had extraordinary skills and perception, almost godlike powers beyond a mere human comprehension. It was those skills that allowed Kiyotaka to succeed in murdering the elder Mizutsuro.

To add insult to injury, the brunette had taken the younger brother, Hizumi Mizutsuro under his wing and it was decided in court that Kiyotaka could remain his legal guardian until Hizumi was of age to live independently. It was soon after that the boy turned to self mutilation, instead of Kiyotaka; his legal guardian, for comfort. Anything was better than finding sanctuary in the arms of your brother’s murderer.

Those deep, amber colored orbs; once full of life and mystery as to the boy behind the smiling mask were now glazed over with fear, pain and rejection. Some sick spark of pleasure lit those glazed honey pools, watching intently the show he performed for himself. Pain had been the only thing keeping him alive for the longest; pain had accompanied him. He no longer had need for friends, when in the world’s eyes he was a devil; the heir to Yaiba’s madness. “Yaiba…” his brother’s name spilled from those pink, parted lips, disrupting the deathly silence in the darkened room for a brief moment. For a brief second, the mint-haired boy felt the need to second guess himself, to question I what he was doing was wrong, but it all was forgotten at the thought of Kiyotaka Narumi. He was the bastard who mercilessly slain his beloved older brother; the only family he had; and not once did the man ever think his actions were wrong, cruel, or unjust. Would Kiyotaka kill him, too, when the time arose? Would he kill him without a hint of remorse; the boy who he had taken in when he had no one left to turn to? “Bastard.” Hizumi hissed, hating the man with every fiber of his being.

The thoughts vanished into the darkness as the boy touched the metal blade of a knife to his already blood-soaked skin. The feeling of the cold surgical knife tearing through his warm flesh was wonderful, and the pain was no longer unbearable, but had become pleasurable, addictive; like a drug. “Bastard Kiyotaka…” Another deep cut was placed upon the deliciously bloodied arm, adding another line to the maze of cuts and scars the boy had inflicted on himself. It was the only way to escape the sick and cruel reality that he was forced to face; just like his brother. Watching the dark scarlet blood paint the floor had become his favorite pastime. He had lost count of the times he could take the cutting to an extreme and actually kill himself.

He had always wondered why he never inflicted that final wound that could ultimately end his life. Perhaps he was waiting for Kiyotaka to rise up and end his life for him, just like he’d done with Yaiba. Maybe the man was toying with him. He wouldn’t really hold it against Kiyotaka to do something so devious. Perhaps it all boiled down to who would make the first move. Hizumi knew all too well that the games Kiyotaka chose to play were dangerous, and that the first to move and attack the other, would be the first to end up dead. No matter how he looked at it, the game was tied. A stalemate. That was the very worst possible outcome in Hizumi’s opinion, because as things stood now, he and Kiyotaka were equals with the same options and level of playing field. There was only one difference. Kiyotaka had more weapons at his disposal, making Hizumi an easy target.

‘Even so, I’m not going down without a fight.’

Ugh, this chapter is really short, but hopefully the next will be a lot longer…if anyone wants me to continue, that is. Anyway, I look forward to you reviews!
