Disclaimer:
I do not own Pokemon, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Nimh
Just as a warning- these are going to be uber short chapters, with no revision. I’m just writing what comes to mind. =) This fic is based on the games, and I know the male trainer’s name is supposed to be Brendan, but... Well, there isn’t a ‘new name’ option for no reason, is there?
----
Wally stared down at the letter in his hands, reading it over for possibly the hundredth time since it had arrived. Six years of nothing, and now this....?
He closed his eyes, letting his mind wander back in time, to when he first met the trainer. The boy had just moved to Hoenn, to a small town fairly close to Petalburg. His father had dragged the family there to become Petalburg’s new Gym Leader. They’d met in his father’s gym, and the trainer coached Wally in catching his first Pokémon, a Ralts. They’d run into each other a few times over the next two months; his newfound rival was advancing amazingly quickly.
In just three months, he had become the new Pokémon Champion. He’d visited Wally every other day; the two had become very close. Then just a month after winning his title, he vanished without a trace.
His parents weren’t worried, at least not at first. They believed he had gone off to have new adventures, face new challenges. After all, that’s what trainers do right? And so they had confidently awaited word from their son. Nothing came the first month, or the next, or the next... Nothing telling of his whereabouts for three years. Then they found the mangled-beyond-recognition body in the Cerulean Cave in Kanto, bearing his best friend’s ID card.
Wally had let himself fall into a despair. But he didn’t sit and mope all day- no, he trained harder than ever, and became the new Champion. His friend would have wanted it. Wally held onto the title for the past three years; other trainers challenging the Elite four were too afraid to fight someone with such a haunted look about him.
And one day, a Pidgeot came flying for his home in Verdanturf (where he had decided to stay after becoming the new Champion) bearing a rolled-up piece of notebook paper. On it was a most peculiar message.
‘Hey Wally!
Sorry I haven’t written in a while. These past six years have been something else! I would have told you I was leaving Hoenn for a while, but the errand I had to run demanded that I leave immediately. Then I had my bag stolen so I couldn’t get back home easily... I worry every day about the Pokémon I can no longer get to. I heard they found the bastard in Cerulean Cave but they wouldn’t give me back my ID, can you believe that??
Anyway, I heard about you becoming the new Champion. I always knew you could do it! I was gonna send you a present to congratulate you on winning, but I thought it would be better to give it to you in person... So it’s gonna be really late. Sorry!
Which brings me to my next topic: I’m coming to Verdanturf! Man I can’t wait to show you all the new Pokémon I caught in Johto and Kanto! Take care of Skye for me, will ya?
Your friend,
Nimh’
“Nimh...” Wally hugged the letter close. “I’m so glad you’re alright.”
