In the Shadows of Hellsing
Alvise let himself fall back onto the rough cotton bedspread of his bunk. His smooth features contorted for a moment in pain, then he reached out and pulled a protruding ammo clip from his back pocket. With a small groan he rolled over and faced the whitewashed wall. It was pretty sorry quarters, considering this had to be one of the richest contracts he'd ever seen. Not that Alvise had had many jobs since joining the Wild Geese. 3 months wasn't exactly a lifetime of experience. This particular contract though.....
Your enemies are bloodsucking, ageless, immortal vampires. It was ridiculous. Everyone thought so. Until Captain Bernadette got himself beat half to death by one of the freaks they were working for. Some girl dressed up like a police officer, too. With a tight little uniform and short little skirt, revealing every curve of her perfectly formed body....
Alvise snapped back to reality. Cursing, he tried in vain to pull down his heavy canvas shirt over the growing bulge in his pants. Desperately, he reached down into his legging to force his erection into a less obvious position.
"Some one doesn't waste any time making themselves at home." Alvise jumped at the melodious voice by his bed. Turning quickly, he had a view of the crotch of one of the Wild Geese untiforms. One of the female-tailored ones. He swallowed heavily and glanced up. Jade-coloured eyes glared down at him beneath raven locks. It fell around her soft, tan features, ending at her narrow waist. Her outfit was just tight enough to be almost form-fitting.
"Plan on taking your face out of my crotch any time soon?" Alvise went crimson.
"Uhh I'm really sorry, miss. I just kind of rolled over here and didn't mean to....um...." he trailed off. She was looking at him quizzically. The mercenary girl held up 2 fingers.
"First. Never call me 'miss'. My name is Katherine. Second..."she looked down towards the Wild Goose's midsection. "I'd appreciate it if you didn't do that with me in the room."
Alvise turned a shade redder. He had forgotten all about his attempted "adjustment". He rapidly retracted his digits from their hiding place. Katherine rolled her eyes and walked to the opposite bunk. Alvise watched as she dumped a duffel bag of weapons, ammo, clothes, and personal effects onto the lower bed. So engrossed with her, he didn't even realize that she was unpacking. She stole a glance back at him and caught his staring gaze.
"What's the matter, never seen a girl with luggage before?" she asked cynically. Alvise sat up hurriedly.
"No I just...I mean yes I have...I mean..." he stammered.
"Articulate today aren't we?" Katherine retorted. Alvise snapped his jaw shut.
"I just was wondering," he enounciated, trying not to sound like a gawking idiot. "You aren't, like, staying here, are you?" Shit, he thought, failed that pretty miserably. Katherine rolled her eyes again.
"You're pretty perceptive, aren't you? Yeah, this is where I'm supposed to stay. If you have a problem with that...."
"No!" he shouted, louder than he meant to. "Uh, I mean it's alright by me." He noticed the girl sigh in exasperation. She returned to setting up her things. He turned his back to her and lay down again, just so he wouldn't be caught staring at her. She seemed to be pretty young, maybe as young as he was. She certainly had the body of a 23-year-old. He stopped that line of thought before he had to go digging around in his trousers. That was bad enough the first time. A static voice broke the silence in the dorm.
"Attention all Wild Geese," came the voice from the intercom. Captain Bernadette for sure. "Ze Hellsing Agency will be providing dinner in ze great hall in fifteen minutes. If you're not zere in twenty, I get your food." A click signaled the end of the transmission. Alvise shuffled hastily out the door. He could have sworn he saw Katherine look him over as he left. But it was probably his imagination.
