Chapter One

One

Daisuke Jigen was a sharp shooter in every aspect of the word, except maybe in his dreams.

His partner Arsène Lupin was asleep beside him, curled up against his pillow; probably dreaming sweet dreams. While Jigen rose from the bed fumbling for his magnum that rested on the bedside table. He picked it up and crept to Lupin’s side, the hardwood floor groaning slightly beneath his weight.

If someone were to have been peeking through the window of that rundown motel at that very moment, what they were about to see would make them possibly turn away… Or maybe even clench there eyes shut tightly, in fear of witnessing it…

As the cold steel barrel of the magnum was gently pressed against the back of Lupin’s head. Jigen’s eyes were totally void of any emotion as he pulled the hammer back with a click; causing Lupin’s eyes to snap open.

Suddenly, it was as though there was a series of synoptic flashes, and Jigen and Lupin were back cruising along the roads of Japan, relishing in the victory of their most recent heist of The Shadarahns Jewel of some foreign country they had never heard of. And that all in its own made Jigen a bit skeptical. Lupin, was giggling happily as he drove, steering with one hand and using the other to nuzzle the jewel against his cheek.

Meanwhile Jigen was flipping through an old tome that was supposedly magical. It was with the jewel, so he figured it’d be best to wizen himself up on it before they tried to use it.

“What’s it supposed to be for again Lupin?” Jigen asked glancing at him from under the brim of his fedora.

“It used to turn people into zombies.” Lupin replied, adding a note of mysticism to the word ‘Zombie.’

“But the whole zombie thing is crap.” He added. “It was just a ruse to keep people from obtaining it. Truth be told, it gives you the power to control people’s subconscious minds.”

“Oh, really?” Jigen asked, his cigarette glowing as he pulled on it.

“I’m sorry Lupin, I just can’t help but be a little wary about all of this. I mean, remember that one time we snatched King Tut’s mask and you were going crazy?”

“Pah!” Lupin huffed, waving his free hand dismissively, although it looked like he was shaking his fist at Jigen, considering he still had the jewel in his hand.

“This is completely different Jigen! Honestly, you think I’m stupid enough to make the same mistake twice?” Lupin burst into laughter as he sped up, his laughter drowned by the roar of the car’s engine…

Jigen fell silent, wondering what exactly they had managed to get themselves into this time…
