Upon examining the door, Negi said he sensed something very powerful behind it, and it seemed familiar; however, he could not tell what it was. The area had a lot of powerful magic floating around. Negi then cast a spell, unlocking the door. When he opened the door, he was in for the shock of his life.

"F-father?" Negi asked. Asuna and he entered the room to see a rather simple setup. There was a bed, a TV and a dumbwaiter. On the bed was Nagi Springfield. However, things were not as Negi hoped. "Negi... You've found me at last." Nagi said.

"This is the result of a fierce battle between me and a very evil man." Nagi said. "The wounds I have were inflicted more than ten years ago, yet they do not heal. The magic he used was very powerful." Negi and Asuna began to cry.

"Don't cry for me, son. The magic of the ash has kept me alive. However, I am glad to see that you found Asuna-chan." Nagi said.

"Of course, Asuna-chan. When I rescued you, I could sense that you were Negi's soulmate. The two of you are destined for great things." Nagi said.

"This room is filled with very powerful magic, almost off the scale. It's overwhelming my magical senses." Negi said. He then turned back to his father.

"H-how can we help you, father?" Negi asked Nagi.

"These wounds cannot be healed, ever. My magic and the magic of others have failed curing it. Yet that is not important for me; what is important is you two." Nagi said.

"Us? What's so important about us?" Asuna asked.

"There is a prophecy that I ran across... It goes like this:
'From the east shall come a warrior maiden fair, hair of fire and eyes of different colors... And from the west shall come a handsome magical lad, of brown hair and eyes. Together, they shall fight for good all over the world, and evil will tremble when they hear their names.' That prophecy is about you two." Nagi said.

"Us? Negi and I are supposed to be some great warrior team?" Asuna asked in disbelief. She couldn't believe her ears; she could barely tolerate Negi, and she knew that a relationship with him would be, at best, an I-hate-you-yet-I-love-you affair.

"Yes. You and he will become one of the best fighting teams ever. That is why I raised you for a while, until I could find someone who would take care of you in Takamichi-san. You and Negi should start working together more." Nagi said.

"I have to help you somehow, father." Negi said.

"My son, there is a Zen parable that fits with your mindset. It goes like this:

Why? Did this shooter know he hit a warrior? Did the shooter bear him malice? All questions were petty compared to the problem he had of the arrow in his arm.' When the student heard this, he achieved enlightenment." Nagi said.

Negi merely stood there dumbfounded. Asuna was just as much at a loss for words.

Nagi sat up and then continued. "Negi, you have all you need to have a fulfilling life. You have a good setup here at the academy; you have Asuna-chan to love; and you have your destiny to fulfill. That is all you truly need for a great life. Now is the time to start fulfilling that promise. You have all the tools you need, my son. There is nothing more that I can give you." Nagi said. Nagi then stood up.

"It is time for me to leave, and go onto higher things." Nagi said as he stood up.

"Father... Don't leave me...." Negi said.

"Do not worry about me, Negi. Your mother is waiting for me, and she can be very impatient at times." Nagi said. "But do remember that I will always be proud of you, my son." He then staggered his way over to the door and left the room.

"FATHER!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!" Negi shouted as Nagi left the room. Upon exiting the room, Nagi's battered body disintegrated, turning into dust almost instantly. Negi fell to his knees and cried. He had hoped to show his father how good of a sorcerer he was. He had hoped to make everything all right again with him and his father.

Asuna took Negi into her arms and they cried on each other's shoulders. Negi had only known his father sporadically, and Asuna even less so. Still, both of them knew that this was a great loss to the world of magic.

"Why, father!? Why did you have to leave me now!? I wanted to know more about you! I wanted to show you how good I had become!" Negi said while crying. He felt hurt and alone, although he was like a child in Asuna's arms. Both of them cried until the tears wouldn't flow anymore.

It was a long time later when Asuna and Negi parted. When they left the room, they saw Nodoka on her knees crying. She had Nagi's ashes at her feet. Negi couldn't help but cry dry tears at this sight. Asuna kneeled next to Nodoka and put an arm around her.

"You're always in my heart too. Well, I gotta go now. I love you." Konoka said. She then hung up the phone and looked up at them.
