Summary: Wufei is Dragon changling and has been sent back in time! Now he can’t figure out how to get back to his own time. However, when he meets Heero (a sheriff), Duo (bar owner and part time helper of Heero), Trowa (the owner of the gun shop and helper of Heero) and Quatre (the only good lawyer and the singer/electric guitar player for the only band in town, as well as helper of Heero) he’s not so sure he wants to go back to his own time.

Part One: Stranger

“Get back here!!!”

The yell came from the sheriff, Heero Yuy. He was in hot pursuit of a badass wanna be. He was not happy with how this day was going. He had been after this guy for almost a month and now the jackass was running into the damn cliffs!! He was fuming when he finally spotted the man.

He aimed his gun and was about to shoot, when the man turned abruptly into another unknown path.

“Damnit!!”

He heard a surprised yelp and sped up his already fast speed. The rocks where to rough for a horse, so he’d had to go on foot. When he got to a small flat of rock, he stood stock-still.

There was a foreigner pinning the criminal to the hard stone and seemed to be growling. He had a scratch on one cheek and was favoring one ankle. However this did not stop him from totally dominating the other into staying still.

Heero waited to see what the stranger would do. To his surprise, the other called out to him.

“If you don’t want me to kill him, come and get him.”

Heero could tell that the man wasn’t joking and handcuffed the fool. He also knew that the stranger had to be of an oriental origin. Maybe Chinese. He looked over the dumb ass he handcuffed for any sign of engurey. Other than being scared out of his wits, nothing was wrong. He turned to the stranger.

“Come with me. I need to ask you a few things.”

The other looked at him skeptically and then with suspicion. He finally nodded and walked a good four feet behind him. It was at least six miles from town and he only had the one hours. He looked at the foreigner, who shook his head. He made a weird sound and from the trees came the most beautiful creature Heero has ever seen. It didn’t look like a horse, well not really, but he couldn’t place what else it could be.

When they got back to town, they where met with three people right before the town buildings. One was a brunette with green eyes, though you could only see one because of his hair in his other. The one next to him was a blond with blue eyes, who looked worried. And the last one had a long braid of coco colored hair and violet eyes; he looked like he was ready to kill the prisoner.

“Welcome back Heero. Are you hurt?”

The sheriff shook his head at his blond friend’s question. Then he glared at the one with long hair at HIS comment.

“Took you long enough. I thought I was going to have to eat dinner by myself……again.”

“Don’t start with me Duo. I’ll explain latter. I just want to get this guy into a cell so I can finish my paper work.”

Duo stuck his tongue out and pouted. The unibanged man looked to the third person that came back with Heero and indicated him.

Heero looked at where his other friend was pointing and sighed. He had forgotten about the foreigner.

“We can talk in my office.”

The others on foot fallowed the two animals to the Sheriff’s Office. When the prisoner, who still hadn’t said anything, was in his cell, Heero turned to the four people in his office. He turned to the new comer.

“What’s your name?”

The black haired man sat stiffly, but answered the question.

“Wufei Chang."

It was the blond that ask the next question.

“Where did you come from?”

This got a strange look from Wufei. The man seemed strange to everyone, so he would break the tension by getting on a subject the other might like.

“China.”

Heero asked another question, getting into his interrogation mode.

“Why are you here?”

This, too, got a weird look from Wufei.

“I’m sorry, but I feel a little strange without knowing who all of you are…….”

This time Duo spoke.

“Don’t worry about it. We should have known that. I’m Duo Maxwell.”

“I’m Quatre Winner and this is Trowa Barton.”

The blond said indicating the green-eyed man next to him.

“You already know me. So, why are you here?”

Wufei nodded to everyone and turned back to answer the question Heero was giving him.

“I don’t know yet. I was sent here by my homeland and now that I’m here, I don’t know what to do.”

Everyone seemed to process this before Quatre spoke again.

“Well, you can stay at the Hotel until we found you something better. We will take turns showing you around on our free time. Don’t worry; we’re all very good at getting new people settled here.”

The smile Quatre gave to Wufei was so … sweet, that no one could argue with the plan he had just thought up.

They heard a noise and Wufei was up and out the door before anyone could blink.(an:wee! Warpspeed….*cough*…ya^_^;…) When the others got outside, they saw Wufie standing over some doofuse who had obviously been trying to take the….animal Wufei had come on.

“HEY! You’re that damn thief from Bison Town.”

Heero cuffed him and took the trembling man inside with other dumb ass. The other three looked at Wufei, who was now speaking in a strange language to the creature.

“Hey, Wufei……”

Wufei turned and looked at Quatre.

“What is that?”

He knew it sounded rude, but Quatre couldn’t help it. He’d never seen this creature before and he knew almost every animal in the world! He came close to blushing from embarrassment when Wufei smiled at him and patted his animal.

“She is a Butonykun.(an: don’t ask…I’ll draw a picture latter….) Her name is Nataku. Would you like to pet her?”

Wufei could see the curiosity of all three humans before him. He told Nataku not to startle and that they where friends. Trowa was the first to come closer and reached out to the weird creature.

He stuck his hand out, palm up, right under the nose and waited. When the animal sniffed and then took a lick at his skin, he was amazed at the purring sound she made.

“She likes you. She only purrs for people she likes.”

Quatre smiled so big, he was sure he was glowing. He was very impressed with how Trowa was handling the creature. Then he, too, went in and started to pet Nataku. Duo was the last one to come close.

He was the one closest to Wufei and smiled at him.

“Nataku was her name?”

Wufei nodded. He liked Duo. And the others too, but Duo made his insides jump. Heero for that matter, he also made Wufei feel funny. Speaking of which, he turned to look for the sheriff only to find him looking at HIM. He swallowed. He really should look away from those cobalt eyes. He needn’t have worried. Heero walked down the steps to the other side of him, starting to pet Nataku. Now he was in-between Duo and Heero. The feeling was so strong; he almost stepped away from them.

“We better get you to a room before it gets to dark.”

Quatre’s voice brought Wufei out of his mind. He nodded to the blond and they all headed for the stables, put Nataku up and the headed for the Hotel. After getting Wufei a room, Trowa and Quatre said goodnight and left. That left Heero and Duo to see to their new friend.

“Well, if you need ANYTHING…..let us know. We’re on call twenty-four seven. So don’t hesitate.”

Wufei nodded at Duo’s comment. He really like the two humans in front of him, but couldn’t reveal that. So, he simply made motions letting them know he would get them if he needed them.

“We mean it Wufie. For ANYTHING.”

Again Wufei nodded. He liked Heero’s voice. It was husky with just the right amount of youngness to it. Duo’s was pure, like hunny, but could be stern if it required it.

“Goodnight. Which one of you will I be seeing tomorrow?”

It was Duo that answered him.

“Trowa. He is the only not doing anything. He will explain what it is he does and show you around the north buildings.”

Again, Wufei nodded. Duo and Heero bid him goodnight and left him to his solitude.

Part Two: Guns Are The Only Protection

Trowa took a deep breath. Today he would spend his day with the Asian from China, Wufei. And that means he will have to talk to him and explain things. He was going to kill Duo. It was Quatre’s idea, but Duo was the one who said when everyone would take Wufei around.

He knocked on the door and waited. He heard rustling and some words in Chinese, then the door opened and Wufei blinked.

“What time is it?”

Trowa took in the others appearance and knew that Wufei had just woken up.

“Just after 7:00am.”

Wufei made a noise. He was not use to being awake during the day and was very tired. But he wasn’t one to complain, so he gestured for Trowa to come in and quickly went into the bathroom.

When he came out, he noticed Trowa was looking at his sword leaned carefully up against the wall.

“It was my Fathers’.”

Startled, Trowa turned and blinked. Wufei shook his head.

“Don’t worry. Now, where are we going?”

Trowa finally came out of his stupor. He moved to the door and waited as Wufei fallowed him.

They went into street and head for Trowa’s shop. He needed to check in on his workers. Wufei looked both ways as they walked. The place was big, but there weren’t many buildings, not like he was used to anyway. There were a hand full of scattered structures out side the main town(an: houses and such^_^), a store(an: think safeway, only smaller^_^), salon, bar, clothes shop, a shop for shoes, the sheriff’s office, a smaller building that was probably the court house, a church, a school, a gift shop type building and two hotels. They came up to the gun shop and he almost chuckled. It was called Silent Guns.

“This is my shop. And before you ask, Quatre always calls me the Silent One, hence the name of the shop.”

Now Wufei did chuckle.

“I wasn’t going to ask, but thank you for telling me.”

They went in and Wufei stood as Trowa talked to his helpers. He explained what he was doing today, told them how to do a few things and answered some questions. All the while, Wufei was looking at the small number of daggers on the far wall. He knew these very well. He was taut on some of them when he was very small.

He examined one very closely with out touching it. It was a four-inch blade with a simi-gold handle. The handle itself was shaped almost like a dragonhead and then came down to cover the blades top. On either side of the base of the neck, it came out to form a curved design. He liked this very much.

“It came all the way from Asia. A traveler wanted a trade for a small wrist gun and I liked the way the dagger looked, so I traded him. I thought maybe I could sell it, but no one has looked at it. It’s too different for most people around here.”

Wufei blinked. That was the most he had heard Trowa say since they met. He looked at the dagger again, then at Trowa and back to the dagger.

“I’ll buy it.”

Trowa was shocked. Not because Wufei had said he wanted the dagger, but because he never asked how much he wanted for it. To top it all off, the Asian was looking at it like it was the most precious thing on the planet. Trowa sighed. He knew he shouldn’t do it, but Wufei wanted it bad enough to pay anything for it. He knew the dragon dagger had to belong to Wufei, one way or another.

Wufei watch as Trowa took the dagger down and headed for the counter. He smiled. He was going to get the dagger. He was going to have a piece of history, his history, at his side from now on. He had recognized the markings after a second look and his clan definitely made it.

Trowa took the price tag off and cleaned the blade a bit. Then brought out a leather sheath and put the dagger in it. He turned to a very eager Wufei and smiled.

“Welcome to Eagle Ridge City.”

Wufei stared at the sheathed dagger in his hands and looked at Trowa.

“I couldn’t. How much do I do owe you?”

Trowa shook his head.

“Nothing. Look at is as a welcoming present. Believe me, the others will find something for you as well.”

Wufei could only say one word.

“Why?”

He was totally baffled at why anyone, let alone people he just met, would give him anything. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but something told him he was going to like it here.

“Because they spoil their friends.”

Friends? Wufei rolled that word around in his mind and like the way it sounded. He’d never had friends before.

“I hope it’s not going to cause trouble latter for them.”

Trowa shook his head again. To him, Wufei looked like he was really unsure of himself and needed someone to help him. Well, he and the others would do that. They had become friends instantly and all of them would see to it that Wufei enjoyed it here.

“Come on. There are still some things I want to show you.”

Wufei fallowed his….friend. Clutching the dagger to him the whole time. He could feel what went into the dagger and what it was maid for. He could tell that it was meant to be a self-defense weapon for one of the younger men of his clan. However that person had long since died of heart failure. He could feel that this dagger was well cared for and now, it was his.

During the next three or four hours, Wufei was shone the other Hotel, around the store and out by the edge of town, where there was a horse corral. Wufei had missed seeing it earlier because it was hidden behind the other Hotel.

It was getting to be around five o’clock when Trowa took them to the bar.

Trowa stopped a waiter and ordered and then asked where Duo was.

“He’s helping the sheriff scout out the outer ridges. After yesterday, he doesn’t want to take any chances.”

Trowa nodded and turned to Wufei. Wufei got the hint and ordered for himself.

It was another hour before they decided to call it quits for the day. Trowa took his new friend back to the Hotel. Wufei had said that he could go alone, but there where a few people giving the Asian dirty looks and Trowa didn’t want to have to get Heero.

“Thank you for today. And for walking me home. I saw some of those looks I was given and I appreciate the comfort in knowing they won’t do anything if one of you are around.”

Trowa bowed slightly to Wufei. He knew a little bit about China from the books he’s read. So he wanted to treat the other as much like home as he could.

“Not a problem. Quatre will show you some more stuff tomorrow.”

Wufei bowed back and said goodnight. He was looking forward to spending a day with blond. He seemed very nice and caring for his friends. He was also very good with Nataku. So was Trowa. In fact, they all seemed to be ok as far as she was concerned.

He looked out his window and sighed. He would love to be out there right now. But he was tired. Almost three days without sleep got even him down. So, he snuggled into the soft fabric of his blanket and replayed the day in his head until sleep claimed him.

Part Three: Quatre’s Turn

Wufei was up and dressed before his blond friend got to the door. He had been looking out the window at the sunrise when he saw Quatre walking his way. So he had gotten dressed and was waiting for him when the knock came. Wufei stepped out and greeted the shocked blond.

“Good morning Quatre.”

Quatre blinked a few times and smiled at his new friend.

“Well…..good morning Wufei.”

Wufei chuckled.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. It’s just that, Trowa said you weren’t a morning person. So I’m surprised to see up this early.”

They walked down the street as they talked. They were headed for, what Wufei saw yesterday to be the courthouse.

“This is where I work most of the time. I also play in the band three nights a week.”

Wufei looked Quatre over and raised an eyebrow.

“Yay, yay. That was Trowa’s reaction when he found out I could play the piano as well as the guitar.”

Wufei chuckled at how the other reacted. He couldn’t help it. The blond had an air about him that just relaxed everyone near him. They went up the short steps and entered a white lobby. The building was bigger than he thought. Instead of being tall, it was long. They past several rooms, Quatre telling him what they were used for and who worked in them as they went.

They were to the sixth room when Quatre stopped and unlock the door to the right.

“This is my office. You can come here if you get lost or just want some company. If I’m here that is.”

Wufei nodded. He understood that the four of them had jobs and lives of they’re own. He was just someone here to observe and study this time and what they do compared to what his time does. But he really didn’t want to spend that time by himself.

“Wufei?”

Wufei looked up at his name.

“Yes?”

Quatre looked at the blackette that had been spaced out for the past few seconds.

“Are you ok?”

Wufei nodded. He didn’t mean to upset the blond, so he smiled.

“Ya. Just was thinking about something.”

Quatre nodded this time. He knew how that was. Well, they still had a long way to go in getting Wufei used to this place.

“Come on. I’ll show you the shoe shop. You may want to get a pair of boots if you’re going to be going around here on foot. Those would wear out with-in a couple of months.”

Quatre had pointed to his softer leather shoes. Wufei agreed and they went into the daylight.

They spent a good half hour trying to find Wufei something that was good for this kind of ground, could be warn while riding and hunting, as well as be comfortable. They finally chose a pair of soft leather knee boots with a harder leather/rubber soul.

Next they went into the clothes shop. Wufei was going to need some country clothes if he was going to survive the heat induced summers and the killing winters. They spent the better part of three hours picking out pants, shirts, the right kind of socks, a couple of belts, and two hats…..one black cowboy hat with a silver belt around it and the other was more of a blood/ruby red and was smaller than other one (an: think baseball cap^_^).

When they were about to leave, Wufei noticed something glittering behind one of the belt's on the rack, as if someone had hidden it. He walked over to it and gasped. It was a carved jade dragon, about an inch and half-two inches long and half an inch wide. It was on a silver chain and glistened in the sun as he held it up.

Quatre saw it and smiled. He saw the price tag and went strait for the counter. He whispered to the cashier and paid for the necklace. He then went to Wufei and motioned for him to give over the necklace.

“Here. I’ll help you see if it will fit.”

Wufei liked the necklace a lot, but wasn’t sure if he should buy it or not. First he wanted to see how it felt around his neck and then he would decide. He aloud Quatre to latch the clasp and looked at himself in the mirror. He really liked the way it looked on him.

“It’s a gift. I knew you liked it, so….I bought it for you.”

Wufei’s jaw hit the floor. He had been tricked, AGAIN! He gave Quatre a look and only managed to gawk as the blond laughed at him as they left the shop.

It was close to dinnertime and Trowa was expecting dinner. Not wanting to leave Wufei out, the blond turned and looked at his friend. Wufei was running his hand over the dragon and patted the dagger at his side.

“Wufei, would you like to come have dinner with me and Trowa?”

Wufei startled at Quatre’s voice and nearly fell over at the others’ words.

“You….you want me….to eat….with you?”

At Quatre’s enthusiastic nodding, the blackette sighed. Wufei nodded and fallowed the bouncing blond into the set of houses nearest the outer side of town.

When they got to the house, Wufei examined it from the outside. It was small, but well kept and just big enough to say comfort to him. He spent most of his life out doors, but he knew he would like this place.

“Trowa! I’m home!”

Wufei jumped at the holler. It was met by another one coming from the living room.

“I’m in here Little One.”

Wufei notice Quatre color a nice shade of red at the nickname.(an: kawii….*hugs Quatre plushy*….) It was beginning to become clear as to what their relationship was. And he didn’t mind one little bit. He, himself, played for the same team. Not that he was about to tell them that.

“Wufei is staying for dinner. That isn’t going to be a problem, is it?”

At Wufei’s gasp, Quatre smiled at him.

“Don’t worry. It won’t be.”

They heard a thunk and a whispered curse. Quatre chuckled. He knew Trowa was as red as he had been for using the nickname in front of some one else. A few seconds latter, Trowa came into the kitchen and nodded at Wufei.

Wufei hid a grin. Trowa looked like he was about to die of embarrassment.

“Good evening Wufei.”

Wufei nodded back and tried not to chuckle as he spoke.

“G…good even T..Trowa.”

He couldn’t take it any more. Quatre was so red he looked like a tomato and Trowa was failing to hide a deeper blush. He laughed out loud and held his ribs. He noticed two surprised faces and calmed down a little.

“Don’t worry guys. Believe me, it doesn’t bother me. And besides, you two look like you really want to cuddle.”

This only maid Quatre choke and turn purple, he was so red. And poor Trowa could any gape at him. Wufei thought he would die laughing. He banged his fist on the table and hit his head on his arm.

“Man…..you should….see….yourselves.”

It was hard to breath through the laughter, but Wufei managed.

Trowa looked at the flustered blond next to him and did what he always did when Quatre came home. He bent down and kissed him.

Quatre gasped at what his lover was doing while Wufei was in the room. He had lost all thought by now, however, and kissed back.

Wufei got up and moved to the stove. He would leave those two to there make out session. He started to make what Quatre had put out for dinner. He loved to cook and knew how to use this kind of stove. He glanced over at his two friends and grinned.

Trowa had sat down on a chair and Quatre was in his lap, still kissing each other like they would die without it.

It was fifteen or so minutes before Wufei cleared his throat.

“Dinner is ready.”

Quatre yelp and fell off of Trowa’s lap. Trowa looked down at his lover and then to Wufei, who was placing the plates of food on the table.

“Thank you Wufei. This was not our intention, but it looks delicious.”

Wufei nodded and sat down.

“Thank you Trowa.”

He looked down on the floor to where Quatre had hidden himself under the table.

“Shouldn’t you get him out from under there so his food doesn’t get cold?”

Trowa smiled and shifted a bit. They heard Quatre make a ‘yip’ sound and he grinned wider.

Wufei tilted his head in question.

Trowa mouthed….’I’m tickling him.’….winked and did it again.

“OK! OK! You win! I’ll come out.”

Wufei gave a thumbs up before Quatre could see and went to eating his food.

As embarrassed as Quatre was, the dinner went well. They talked a little about where Wufei came from…him leaving out parts….and what he had seen and learned in the last two days.

When all the food was gone, Wufei stood and bowed to his friends.

“I bid you goodnight. It’s already past dark and I need to sleep if I’m to face Duo tomorrow.”

Quatre chuckled.

“Don’t worry. He isn’t that bad. He’ll grow on you sooner than you think.”

They all said their goodnights and Wufei headed for his room. He had a feeling of belonging here. He didn’t feel this good at home, so this was a nice change. Even if he was sent from another time.

When he got to the door, he unlocked it and headed inside. Sleep claimed him as soon as his head touched the pillow. Dreams of what’s to come and what has happened filled his mind as he slept.

Part Four: The Bar and Riding Free

“Rise and shine sleepy head.”

Wufei shot out of bed, not caring what he wearing (an: or not wearing^_~), and looked around for the intruder. The said ‘intruder’ was chuckling at him from the closed door. Duo was leaning up against the door, legs crossed at the ankles, looking very pleased with himself.

“By the great Dragon, Duo. I could have killed you.”

This only got the braided baka to chuckle more.

“Not like that, you couldn’t.”

Wufei looked down and paled ten shades. This only made Duo crack up laughing. Wufei grabbed the sheet; he had tossed the blanket off during the night, and wrapped it around his middle.

“Duo…..if you value your fragile human life, I suggest that you stop laughing at me.”

Duo chuckled and tried to stop laughing. He couldn’t help it. He couldn’t react the way he wanted to. He was trying very hard not to jump all that wonderfully toned, well built, sexiness in front of him. He had talked about this with Heero, who had said he thought the same thing and they had come to a decision about what to do if Wufei looked interested.

“I’ll leave you to get dressed. Dress in a long sleeve shirt.”

Nodding, Wufie took his clothes from the dresser and headed into the bathroom. He could have sworn Duo looked really……yummy back there. He just couldn’t get the smirk, the way the brunette’s hair fell in front of his well-muscled chest, and the long legs ...he just couldn’t help looking at every part of Duo in his head as he dressed. He liked Heero too. He sighed and straitened out his ponytail, before coming out to spend the day with Duo.

“I have to stop at the Bar real quick. Then the fun will begain.”

Wufei huffed. He was sure he was going to have to try really hard to keep his secret to himself. He wanted to tell them. All of them.

They went into the bar and Wufei would have tripped over something, had he not been what he was. It was dark in some places and different color lights lit other places. There where a handful of tables to one side, the bar to the other and the dance floor was a good size and filled up the back part of the room.

Duo talked to a few people and motioned for Wufei to come to the bar.

“This is Wufei. Whatever he wants, you give it him.”

“Yes Boss. We’ll treat him like he was you.”

Duo glared.

“You better treat him better than you treat me.”

The guy behind the bar nodded.

“Of course Boss.”

Duo nodded once and then led a very shocked Wufei out into the street again. They went across and headed for the Salon.

“You will love this place. They do the most wonderful things for you hair.”

Wufei looked skeptical about that, but went in after Duo anyway. The girl at the desk grinned when she saw them.

“DUO! It’s so nice to see you. It’s been over a week. Where have you been?”

Duo chuckled. Wufei watch as they talked.

“With Heero. Where else would I be? Anyway, I want you to see a friend of mine.”

The girl looked over to Wufei and gasped.

“Oh my gawd.”

Wufei was about to run, when the girl jumped over the counter and went strait for his hair.

“This is so soft and black and shinny. I want to play with it. Can I play with it? PLEASE Duo?”

Duo shrugged and pointed to the stunned Wufei.

“Ask him. It’s his hair.”

She turned hopeful eyes on her next obsession. The silky black strands ran wonderfully threw her fingers.

“Hummm….sure?”

The girl jump up and down and led Wufei to a chair. There, she proceeded to wash, comb, and did several different styles before they all agreed that the jeany-tail look was better (an: omg….can you see Wufei’s hair up on the top of his head, exposing his neck….*licks lips*). It took almost two hours to do this, but now Wufei had the softest hair in town. AND he promised to back sometime soon. That made all the girls in the shop happy.

“I like that. It doesn’t cover so much of your neck and it brings out you face better. You look really nice.”

Wufei tried not to blush at the comment. He liked the way Duo was watching him, but couldn’t act on his nature. He didn’t know if that kind of thing was ok or not. Seeing as how Duo hung out a lot with Heero.

“Thank you. I like it too. It’s cooler this way.”

Duo was pleased at how embarrass the Asian was. He had blushed cutely at the comment. Knowing that HE was the cause for it, made him giddy. It was time for him to show Wufei around the outer parts of the town.

“We’ll be going out that way and then swing around to the south and come back into town by dinner.”

Duo gave instructions and motioned to where they will be going. Wufei didn’t have a problem with it, so they went to get the horses. Well, Duo got his horse. Wufei got Nataku.

When they reached the stables, they were met with quite the sight.

“What happened here?”

Duo was trying not to smile. The stable hands where soaked, the horses seemed a little peeved and Nataku was standing in the middle of the room looking for all she was worth like she was trying hard not to kill the humans.

Wufei walked up to her and patter her muzzle.

“Tell me what happened.”

The animal bent her head and touched her forehead to her masters. Wufei started to chuckle and then it became a laugh. When the moment was over, Wufei looked at the very confused Duo.

“They tried to give her carrots, then clean her hooves and for some reason they started to give her a bath. I think I should tell them a bit about how to take of her.”

Duo chuckled and nodded.

After telling the surprised stable hands how to care for her, Wufei got out his treats. They seemed very small and made out of something red, he only brought out two. He handed one to Duo and held out his hand.

“Like this…..”

Wufei then put his hand out, palms up, and straitened his fingers. When Nataku touched her mouth to his skin to get the treat, he moved his fingers and tickled her chin. This got her to purr.

Duo was shocked, but wanted to try it. So he put out his hand and waited for her to come to him. She slowly moved toward him and sniffed his hand. Then finally took the treat and purred when she was tickled.

“I like that. She sounds like a big cat when she purrs.”

Wufei’s eyes softened at the seen.

“Yes. She does. Now, where are we going?”

Wufei’s question brought him out of his thoughts. He smiled and got his horse. They head out and went quit a ways before Duo turned to him.

“How fast can she go?”

Wufei smiled knowingly.

“Faster than a horse.”

Duo grinned. He wanted to this ever since he saw the other animal.

“Let’s find out.”

They stared at each other a minute and then took off at a dead run. The black horse Duo was riding had the lead. Wufei on the other hand, was holding back. He waited ‘till they where a good three miles and then told Nataku to go faster.

Duo looked behind him and yelped. Wufei was hot on his heals and closeing in fast. He gestured for his mount to speed up. They where both neck in neck now. Wufei’s grin turned evil. Duo gasped, then was left behind in a cloud of dust.

When the dust cleared, Wufei saw Duo coming up beside him. They slowed down and looked at each other. Duo’s horse seemed out of breath, but Wufei’s mount didn’t seem fazed at all.

“OK. You win. She’s faster.”

Wufei smiled at the brunette. He saw something in those purple eyes that made his stomach jump.

Duo looked around a minute and his smile became very bright.

“Come on. I want to show you something.”

Wufei fallowed as the other led them to a place with trees. Right in the middle of nothing. An oasis. He gasped at how pretty things were. There must be water far down in the earth in order for things like this to grow and thrive here. He dismounted as Duo had. They walked somewhat for a minute and came to a lake of sorts.

“Duo, this is beautiful.”

Duo grinned.

“I’m glad you like it. We’ll rest here and let Nataku and Shinegami rest a while before we head out again.”

Duo noticed Wufei startle at the name.

“Yes. It’s a Japanese name. I was over there for a while and when I got her, I knew that had to be her name.”

Wufei nodded.

“I see.”

They rested a good hour before they headed back to their rounding of the outer rim.

Four hours latter, they where in the stables again. Wufei showed the helpers how to brush her, clean her hooves, and gave them treats to give her so she wouldn’t get mad at them again. Duo had left his mount with a friendly hand and headed out of the barn.

“There’s something I want to show you before dinner.”

Wufei walked beside Duo as they headed for the Church. Wufei didn’t know about this kind of religion, but he was willing to see if it made Duo happy. His ears heard muffled words and then he had to clamp his hands over his ears. Some one had used a whistle of some sort. But Duo hadn’t reacted, so it was probably a calling whistle for animals. He paled at Duo’s expression.

“I’m ok. Ummm…..what’s that?”

Duo looked to where his friend just pointed. A kid was holding a dog whistle.

“That’s to help find dogs when they’re lost or need to be with their owners. Why?”

Wufei shook his head.

“No reason.”

The kid did it again and Wufei nearly fell to the floor. His head hurt, very badly now.
Duo saw this and confirmed that it was the whistle making Wufei’s ears hurt. He went out side and asked the kid to that on the other side of the street and to move down a few buildings. The kid nodded and left. By the time he got back, a sister was kneeling down beside Wufei.

“He’s ok Sister Jinny. He just doesn’t like the whistles.”

She nodded and went back to her prayers. Duo bent down and rubbed one of Wufei’s shoulders.

“It’s ok now. I asked him to leave.”

All Wufei could do was nod. He had come very close to changing and…..he wouldn’t think about it. Duo helped him up and they headed for the small booths in the back.

“Father?”

Wufei looked at Duo. Hadn’t he said earlier that he didn’t have a father?

A man in a black robe came out of one of the rooms. He smiled at Duo.

“Well, Brother Maxwell. It’s so nice to see to.”

Duo nodded and motioned for Wufei to come and say ‘Hi’.

“This is my friend, Wufei Chang. Wufei, this is the man I told you about earlier. You know, the one that found me when I was young.”

Wufei bowed to the man in respect.

“It’s very nice to meet you Sir.”

A sort laugh came from the man.

“Oh, you don’t have to do that. Just call me Father. Everyone else does.”

Wufei nodded and smiled a little. The Father turned his attention back to Duo.

“So Duo, will you be here to help with the children?”

Duo smiled brightly and nodded.

“And I’ve even talked the others into coming too.”

The brunette wiggled his eyebrows. That made the Father laugh.

“Yes….you where always good at getting them to help. And you too Mr.Chang?”

Without knowing what he was about to get himself into, Wufei nodded. Which just made Duo beam at him. He felt a strange jolt at the thought of making Duo smile like that.

“Well, Father. We have to go. We’ll see you this weekend.”

They made their way over to bar. Wufei was confused, but fallowed anyway. When they got into the bar, he had to cover his ears. It was loud. The building had to be sound proof. Because he could only hear the music softly, his ears being that good, from out side the building.

Duo walked over a table and waited for Wufei to join him. When the blackette sat down, Duo grinned.

“It won’t seem so loud once you get used to it.”

Wufei nodded at Duo’s statement. Then someone came on stage. Wufei looked and nearly fell out of his chair. QUATRE was up there.

“He didn’t tell you he was the singer for the band?”

Wufei looked back at his friend.

“He did, but I never thought he’d look like that”

Duo laughed. He could see why Wufei was freaking out. It took HIM a little while to get use to seeing Quatre in those. The blond was wearing tight black pants and his long sleeve shirt was unbuttoned to mid chest. He was wearing bands on his wrists and one round his neck. He kept getting cat calls and whistled at.

“Wouldn’t Trowa get mad at him?”

Duo glanced at Wufei a minute before the other comment hit.

“When did you figure it out?”

Wufei blushed at the memory of the night before.

“They kind of showed me last night. And stop laughing!”

The rest of the night went similar to the day. Nice company, good music, good food. Quatre had waved at them a few times during his songs and tried not to chuckle at Wufei’s strange looks.

Part Five: The Truth about Wufei

After another couple of hours, Duo decided to go in for the kill.

“Hey Wufei…..”

The blackette looked at him and raised an eyebrow in question.

“Do you want to stay the night?”

Wufei hesitated. With all the weird feelings he gets whenever he’s close to Duo and Heero….he wasn’t sure he could ignore his animal instincts. But seeing the hopefulness in those endless eyes, he couldn’t say no.

“Sure.”

Duo was so happy inside; he almost didn’t suppress the urge to tackle Wufei. He smiled at the man across from him. Wufei was looking out onto the dance floor. He moved his head and seemed to be studying the dancers. Duo got a wicked idea.

“We better go before Heero sends out the search party.”

Wufei nodded. He stood when Duo did and fallowed him out after waving to Quatre and Trowa. He was very nerves and couldn’t figure out why. He had known Duo and Heero for only three days, but it felt like forever.

They walked a good ways before coming to a house built partly into the hillside. It was bigger than Quatre’s, but seemed just as nice and well taken care of. He figured it was Heero that kept it that way. Duo just seemed like the slacking off type to him.

“Hee-chan! I’m home!”

Wufei looked at Duo. He had used an Asian term to call the other man in house. And that meant that they were like Quatre and Trowa. This, somehow, maid him feel both happy and a little envious.

“YOU BAKA! How many times do I have to tell you not to come home so late without telling me a head of time?!”

Duo winced and sighed. He didn’t intend to spend so much time at the bar, but seeing Wufei so happy was hard to get away from. He looked at the Asian standing next to him and smiled at him. Wufei had startled at Heero’s outburst and then widened his eyes at the comments.

“Don’t worry. Once he sees you, he’ll chill out.”

They walked into the living room, where Heero had been. The moment his eyes saw Wufei, he stood and nodded for them to join him.

“I’m sorry Wufei. I didn’t know you where with him.”

Wufei saw the cobalt eyes glare horribly at Duo. Duo, on the other hand, smiled and sat down on the couch. Wufei sighed and sat down next to him. Heero took up his chair once again.

“Have you eaten?”

Wufei nodded. He and Duo had had something at the bar. Heero glanced between the two before talking again.

“You seem tiered. Didn’t you get enough sleep last night?”

Wufei smiled.

“I’m a night person. It’s hard for me to sleep. But I’m fine. It’s probably that whistle. I can still here it ring in my head. That kid sure blew it hard.”

Duo grinned. He was about to find out why Wufei could hear a dog whistle AND why he had noticed the change in those black eyes when he had hit the floor in the church.

“Wufei, can you answer something without getting mad at me?”

This got a raised eyebrow from Wufei as well as Heero. Nodding, Wufei hoped it wouldn’t be a question he couldn’t answer.

“How were you able to hear that dog whistle?”

Heero looked at the Asian on his couch and narrowed his eyes. He had only heard of being able to do things and hear things that only animals could do and hear. He hadn’t sensed anything from Wufei and Quatre hadn’t said anything about it…….but what other explanation could it be?

Wufei flinched and tried to hide his worried eyes. He clinched his fist. He didn’t want them to think he was a freak or something. But……. he couldn’t lie to them either. Sighing, he made up his mind.

“I’m…..I’m not human Duo. I don’t even come from this time line.”

Duo cocked his head and looked Wufei up and down, then over to Heero….who had come over to sit on the other side of their friend. Wufei continued, knowing that he couldn’t stop now.

“I came here to see what the past was like for my ancestors. I was sent by my clan to see how things where done and see if maybe we could stop some of the things from happening. But after I got here, something happened and now I can’t get back. So I was going to see if I could find a way to live here without affecting the time lines to much.”

Wufei took a deep breath. He was about to say something that will change his life, and the life of the four humans he has met, forever.

“I’m a changeling. A dragon.”

Duo gasped and thought back to the church.

“That’s why your eyes changed in the church……”

Wufei nodded at Duo.

“When I’m pain or angry, depressed or confused to the point I can’t take it anymore, I start to change. That whistle was high pitched and being as close as the boy was to me, it hurt like hell.”

The humans on either side of him were quiet. He had just done something he thought he’d never do. He just told humans what he was and to top it all off, he told them that he wasn’t from their time. But what caught him off guard, was the hands on his knees. One belonging to Duo the other one was Heeros’.

“It’s ok Wufei. I knew something wasn’t quite right from the beginning. When we were on that rock, you showed a lot of strength and it seems your ankle and cut has healed themselves at a rate not know to humans.”

Wufei gasped at what Heero had said. He didn’t know the other had noticed those things before they had a chance to heal. He felt both humans lean on him. Duo whispered into his ear, making him shiver inwardly.

“You are special Wufei. And, if you let us, we want to be a part of your life here.”

Heero blew on his neck and whispered into his other ear.

“We want you to be a part of yours.”

Wufei couldn’t explain what made him nod, but he did. He gasped when he found himself on his back, with Duo over him and Heero under him. Duo grinned down at his two captives and winked at Heero. Heero got the point, leaning over to nibble at the dragon’s neck. Duo came close to Wufei’s lips.

“If we do anything you don’t like, you tell us.”

Wufei could only nod once. Heero was nipping and kissing his neck like a piece of candy. He moaned at the feeling of the two humans working at getting him VERY aroused. He looked up into Duo’s violet eyes and saw something in them that made him smile.

Duo bent the rest of they down, seeing Wufei’s smile as encouragement. He pressed lightly down on the others body with his own. Then kissed the dragon lightly on the lips.
