DISCLAIMER: I do NOT own this anime or any others, they all belong to their respective companies. I do not own anything, except my PC, a cup of instant noodles and 6 donuts.
A/N: The is in response to a challenge/request issued by shinobu sensui, 'The Atonement'. This the first fan fiction I've done in a few years, so sorry if its a little rusty. I would appreciate any helpful reviews, NO FLAMES. I don't flame others and neither should you.

I can feel the warmth of someone that is holding...
I can hear the waves rippling nearby...
I can feel a warm liquid dripping on my face...
I try to open my eyes but they are too heavy...
My savior falls on their knees and grabs something...
They place me into what feels like a bed...
I try again to open my eye, they slowly open...
I see the one person in my life I cannot tolerate but cannot be without...
My father, My Saviour, My source of heartache in my life...
Then I realize something, the substance on my face...
Its... blood, my fathers blood...
He places the cross her wore around his neck into my hands and then closes the hatch on the capsule...
Only after the hatch closed did I realize he actually loved me...
I feel a shock wave hit the capsule, pushing it into the ocean...
After what seemed like an eternity, the hatch opened...
I sit up and start to look around...
Then I see it... a being of light... Adam...
It the it hit me... Second Impact has just occurred...

Misato Katsuragi awoke from her nightmare in a pitch black room, breathing heavily and covered in a cold sweat. After a minute, she finally calms down and lays back down. She then realized that the ceiling was not the one she was used to, she shots back upright then starts looking around. She can't see much in room she is in, but she feels something on her leg. Misato sees Shinji Ikari, sleeping peacefully on her left leg, she tries reaching out to shake him awake, but she winces in pain as her left arm moves away from her body.
“Oww....”
“I see your finally awake.”
Misato looks to her right and sees someone in the bed next to hers, someone she thought she would never see again...
“Ritsu-chan,” Misato whispers out, not wanting to wake Shinji, “w-wh-what are doing here? But more importantly, where is here?”
“I'm here for the same thing as you, healing up. And here is a private NERV hospital in Nagano.”
“Why aren't we at the NERV hospital at Tokyo-3?”
“You don't remember?”
“No, not really.”
Ritsuko looked at here friend with a slight shock, but then again with what happened, she can't blame her if she sub-consciously forced herself to forget.
“Well where to begin...”
Ritsuko decided to just give it to her straight,
“Tokyo-3 was destroyed if you can call what happened to it that...”
“Destroyed?!? How?”
“Well, NERV was invaded by the JSSDF a little over a week ago...”
“Wwwhhhaatttt!” Misato whispered as quietly as she could.
“Yes, I know, its a hard fact to get around,” Ritsuko said with a hint of despair in her voice. “I just found out myself two days ago that they were under orders from SEELE, through the UN and the Japanese Government.”
Misato just sat there, stunned with numerous thoughts running through her mind.
'How many died?'
'Why did SEELE turn against us and order the destruction of NERV-HQ?'
'Who survived?'
'What happened to my arm?'
'Why is Shinji sleeping on my leg?'
After a good minute of letting her thoughts collect themselves, she decided to ask the latter of the question on her mind.
“What is Shinji doing here?”
“Shinji was the one who saved those of us who are still alive, yourself included.”
Misato looked at Shinji with a bit of a shock.
“He... saved us?”
Ritsuko nodded. “When you got to the Cages, he took you into the Entry Plug with him.”
Misato continued to look on in shock.
“He piloted Eva Unit 01, destroyed the Mass Production Eva's, managed to save Asuka's entry plug before it was destroyed AND fought the JSSDF forces back into a retreat.”
It then hit Misato harder than the fact that she and Ritsuko where the only survivors of the explosion that occurred at the factory were the 13th angel was being tested at.
She remembered...
She remembers killing the three men who had found Shinji...
She remembers trying to convince Shinji to pilot...
She remembers taking a shot in the arm to protect Shinji...
She remembers kissing Shinji, telling him he was a grown up with grown up responsibilities...
She remembers pushing Shinji into the elevator, only to have him pull her in before it closes...

Day of JSSDF Invasion.
~*~
Shinji was in shock at the moment, not because Misato took a bullet meant for him, not because she was telling him that he mustn't run away and that he was now a grown-up with grown-up responsibility and not because she was kissing him... Misato, someone who he considered more of a big sister that anything was showing him affection he only received rarely. Love. Whether it be love from a family member, or love between and man and his wife, or just love for those who are in your life. This emotion Misato was giving to Shinji was love. It felt like a warm blanket was surrounding him and that he was safe from everything, then Misato cupped his face in her hands and said...
“When you come back... we'll do the rest...”
Shinji started to feel cold again and vulnerable, he didn't want this feeling to go away. He was about to start his 'I mustn't run away' mental chant to give himself the courage to at least say something, but he didn't feel the need to, he felt like he could do anything. The elevator door behind him opened and Misato pushed him in, 'no more running...'
Shinji after a year of combating the Angels for the sake of mankind, after putting up with everyone with little emotional support from those around him, after Asuka's constant insults and beatings, after putting up with the fact the his father only had him come to Tokyo-3 because he had a purpose for him. After all that has happened to him, the one emotion that gives him a spine is love, the love Misato gave him was what gave Shinji the courage to do what he did next...
Misato was leaning against the wall next to the elevator, exhausted and looking at the floor when she felt a hand grab her wrist and pull her into the elevator. She fell onto her knees in the elevator due to being exhausted from all the trouble she went thought to get here, “Shinji-kun, w-what are you doing?”
“I'm protecting those whom I love Misato-chan.” Shinji said with a smile whilst looking into Misato's brown eyes.
With that said, the doors behind Misato shut.
“Let me have a look at that...” Shinji said in a caring and loving tone, slowly taking off her jacket to look at the gunshot wound.
He takes of his shirt to use as a make-shift bandage, leaving him in his figure hugging undershirt.
Misato can't help but stare at his chest, she had no idea he was hiding such a nice body underneath the loose shirt that was now being tired around her left arm. After Shinji had applied the make-shift bandage, he helped Misato get back into her jacket.
“Thank you... Shinji-chan...”
Shinji sat on the floor next to Misato, placing his head on her shoulder waiting for the elevator to get to the cages.
Once at the cages, Misato told Shinji to go on and that she'll wait for him.
“No Misato-chan, I just WON'T leave you behind. I just WON'T! You mean too much to me too loss, I don't want to loss you Misato-chan...”
Misato felt something that she had only felt once in her life, nearly 16 years ago. She didn't understand it back then but she finally understands now. Just like her father, Shinji had risked his life to protect her. To Misato, this was love... not like the love she felt for Kaji, that was more physical and her feeble attempts to find a man like her father. Shinji showed to her that no length was to great for him as long as he had her, he risked himself for her...
“Oh Shinji-chan... how can you take me with you?”
“Your coming into the Entry Plug with me.”
Misato feared going into the Entry Plug because of what it reminded her of, the feeling of being trapped and helpless inside the capsule like object... But if it meant she would be with Shinji, she would do it, for him...
“Ok Shinji-chan... lets go.”
*In Central Dogma, The Operations Room*
“Aaaaahhhhh!”
Ibuki Maya is under her computer station clutching to her pink cushion, trying to drown out the gun fight she is in the middle of. Through all of the noise of gunshots and people screaming in pain, she notices something on her laptop.
“What the... guys! Unit 01 has activated, Shinji got to the cages just fine!”
“Finally,” Aoba Shigeru said whilst ducking for cover from several shot fired in his general direction, “we could really use the help!”
“Yeah thats true,” said Hyuuga Makato was also taking cover from the onslaught, “but do you thing Shinji will be able to fight knowing that the enemy is a fellow man and not an Angel?”
“Who knows? But for our sake, I hope he will...”
Aoba and Hyuuga were about to start shooting back again when the answer to there question was answered. Unit 01 in all of its tall, purple pride bust through the same wall it did when Zeruel the 14th Angel was attacking Central Dogma. Using his Eva, Shinji punched the walkway the soldiers were standing on, those who weren't crushed by the purple fists, fell off the sides. He then sent another punch to the passage way the soldiers were coming through effectively blocking it, this would buy the technicians to escape if needed.
“Shinji,” Maya was using her laptop to communicate with him, “you need to hurry out to the Geo-front, the Mass Production Eva's are recovering and converging on Asuka in Unit 02 and shes run out of power, hurry Shinji!”
“Roger that.”
With that Shinji proceeded to make a hole out of Central Dogma and towards the Geo-Front...
*Terminal Dogma*
Ritsuko Akagi pressed the button on the device in her coat pocket, she waited, and waited until she pulled it out. She was planning to destroy Terminal Dogma along with Adam, Lilith and the man she thought she loved, Gendo Ikari.
“What?” She pulls out the device, “mother, how could you betray me?”
It turns out that Casper, the part MAGI that was her mother as a women had overridden the plan and stops the self-destruction sequence.
“Damn, looks like its time for plan B.”
Before Gendo could pull out his gun, Ritsuko shot twice at him.. The first clipped his shoulder, then the next round hit him in the dead center of his forehead, resulting in instant death.
She then took aim at Rei/Lilith.
“It's nothing personal, its just I would prefer it if Third Impact didn't occur...”
The then pulled the trigger, again, and again until all the round in her revolver were gone. In front of her laid the one who sort to destroy humanity to be with his wife and next to him laid the one who had the power to do so...
Ritsuko Akagi then proceeded to walk out of the room as if nothing happened even thought because of her, man kind was safe from third impact...
*Geo-Front*
(A/N: I will refer to Eva Unit 01's actions as Shinji's)
When Shinji goto the Geo-Front, the sight that greeted them made Shinji's blood chill and made Misato turn a shade of white that would have put Rei's skin tone to shame. The M.P.Eva started to regenerate and started to go towards a silent Eva Unit 02.
“COWARDS!”
Shinji pulled out his progression knife and ran at the nearest M.P.Eva, he thrust downwards into the regenerating head. Using one of his hands, he began to pull the M.P.Eva's head away from the apex created from thrusting his progression knife into the things head. He the found the S2 engine of the M.P.Eva's, but before he could make his move on it, he was forced to duck from the Heavy Lance that was being swung horizontally at him. Shinji was hoping to distract the M.P.Eva so they don't get to Asuka.
Misato could only watch on in total awe as Shinji fought against all odds, he may have been out numbered, but he still fought. In her eyes, it caused an aura of masculinity to appear around him, only making her desire him more that she already does.
Shinji used his small opening to destroy the first M.P.Eva he was attacking, he pulled the S2 engine as much as he could, then used his progression knife to remove it completely. Somehow feeling the instability of the S2 engine he forced it into the mouth of the M.P.Eva who swung at him and was still recovering from the swing. Shinji the focused his AT Field around the M.P.Eva's head, containing the explosion.
“Two down, who's next?”
Shinji grabs the Heavy Lance from the hand of the remains of one the decimated M.P.Eva and with a battle cry he charges upon the next M.P.Eva. It barely has time to respond when its is suddendly cut asunder by Shinji. Out of the six remaining M.P.Eva, another two had regenerated enough to fight back. Both of them morphed their Heavy Lances into the replica of the Lance of Longinus and they begin to spread their wings. Shinji then hurled his Heavy Lance at the closer of the two M.P.Eva's, this effectively removed and ensure that the M.P.Eva would not fly with its wings anytime soon. He then charged the other M.P.Eva with naught but his bear hands. The M.P.Eva started to take off, gaining some air only to have Shinji jump on its back pressing his feet between the head and the top of the spine, with each hand grasping a wing. Using all the strength he could muster, he severed the wings from the M.P.Eva, it howled in agony.
Shinji removed the Lance from the M.P.Eva's weakened grip and pierced the core before hurling it towards the M.P.Eva he disable mere seconds before this one, it looked up toward Shinji only to realize it was too late to dodge the Lance hurdling toward it, piecing the beasts core it was defeated. With another two M.P.Eva downed, Shinji begins his advance on the next M.P.Eva.
One of the more regenerated M.P.Eva threw their R.L.Longinus towards Shinji He slowed it down with his AT Field then grabbed it before it penetrated his Eva's armor. Another M.P.Eva attacked with its Heavy Lance, Shinji parries the blows with his Lance. Then when the opportunity presented itself to him, Shinji brought the Lance down on the M.P.Eva's head. For some reason unknown to Shinji, the R.L.Longinus morphed into a pole arm like form instead of its usual fork like form. Not that he cared much but with his newly morphed Lance, he brought it down as hard as he could, after the fifth continuous blow, he split the beast asunder.
The M.P.Eva who threw the Lance Shinji is now using used its chance and charged Shinji from behind. Shinji didn't turn around in time and felt a massive pain in his side as the M.P,Eva crashed into him. The M.P.Eva was trying to hold down Shinji long enough for another M.P.Eva to help subdue him to initiate Third Impact, but they didn't know a certain doctor stopped that from happening.
Whilst struggling against the M.P.Eva, Misato noticed something that Shinji might be able to use.
“Shinji look!,” she points the object out to him, “that Asuka's progression knife!”
Without needing to be told twice, Shinji reached for it and grasps it in his hands. Then drives the blade into the M.P.Eva's core. Rather than pull it out, he ejects the blade and another slide out of the handle. For once he was glad Asuka had as she would say 'superior equipment'. Tossing the M.P.Eva's body aside he then advances on the remaining three Eva.
The remaining M.P.Eva's brace themselves for Shinji's assault, one of them spreads their wings in Shinji's direction hoping to provoke him into rushing blindly. It works, Shinji rushes towards the one M.P.Eva, progression knife at the ready. He leaps up into the air hoping to catch the M.P.Eva before it takes off, he lands on the M.P.Eva then forces him onto the ground. Shinji with both hands on the progression knife above his head, bring it down upon the M.P.Eva's core... but the knife never reaches its target. When he noticed this then feels the pain, the other two M.P.Eva had thrown their R.L.Longinus at him, one pierces his right shoulder, effectively removing his right arm , the other is skewered in his head...
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!”
Shinji is clutching his head with his left hand whilst his right just lays limply at his side.
*Central Dogma*
“Oh my god!”
Maya looked up from her laptop at her two fellow technicians.
“What, whats happened?” Hyuuga asks whilst helping other near-by technician with there injuries.
“It's Shinji, his Sync Ratio has dropped for 98.2 percent to 3.6 percent, neural connections one though to forty three have been disconnected. He can't move his Eva!”
“Oh I wouldn't worry about that too much...”
Just then, from behind the three technicians, a one Ritsuko Akagi appears from an elevator in the floor.
“Sempai! Where have you been, and what makes you say that?”
“I've been helping prevent Third Impact and you will see what I mean about Shinji any moment now...”
Just as those words left her mouth, howls from the hole leading out to the Geo-Front could be heard.
“ You don't think that...” Maya quickly looked at her laptop, “Unit 01 has gone berserk, Sync Ratio at 400 percent, all neural connections in place...” The silence was heavy among the technicians.
“As much we hate for Unit 01 to go berserk,” Aoba deciding to break the silence among them, “I do believe it couldn't of happened at a better time.”
“Your right there,” Hyuuga said, “but still...”
*Back on the Geo-Front*
In the Entry Plug, Misato had already passed out from the pain she felt whilst in the LCL. Shinji was on the brink of passing out when all around him went white, and he heard 'her' voice. The one who always helped him when he needed it when piloting the Eva. “Do you need me to help you again?” The voice was filled with nothing but love for Shinji. He nodded with a smile, “well her you go, I hope it's enough for you...”
Shinji was finally back in the controls of the Eva, but he didn't feel like he was piloting the Eva. It felt like... he was the Eva...
Shinji noticed the two M.P.Eva's that had caused him to go berserk. Forgetting all about the M.P.Eva being crushed underneath him, he made his battle cry heard. Using the progression knife, he hacked off the arm of the M.P.Eva underneath him, grabbed the severed limb and placed it where his right arm once was. Once again, just like with the 14th Angel, Shinji's arm regrew using the 'materials' provided. The M.P.Eva beneath his was beginning to struggle., trying to escape what it knew was coming. Shinji pulled the R.L.Longinus out of his head, them just like was trying to do with Asuka's progression knife, he penetrated the M.P.Eva's core with the Lance.
He then turned on the last two M.P.Eva... They paused for a second, receiving new orders from SEELE. The old men could see from the monitors that their attempts to bring about Third Impact were thwarted by fourteen boy. They knew that they couldn't win so they thought they should at least give the boy a parting gift. SEELE ordered the remaining two M.P.Eva to go after the Second Child...
Shinji turned to see the last two Mass Production Evangelion, make they way toward the inactive Unit 02 with they Heavy Lances in hand. Shinji grabbed the Lance out of the dead M.P.Eva and charged at the two...
The two M.P.Eva spread their wings and began to take flight, to avoid the wraith of the berserk pilot of Unit 01... or so they thought they could. Shinji launched his lance towards one of the M.P.Eva, it penetrating the things left wing, causing it to lose altitude slowly. Shinji then charged the falling M.P.Eva and beginning give it all he has. He pulled the M.P.Eva to the ground, then using his AT Field as a weapon to remove the things arms. He then used one of the freshly removed limbs to club the M.P.Eva, after clubbing for a good minute he then started to punch the core.
Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. The core begins to show slight signs of cracking. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right... The core then shattered from the force of the berserk Eva attacking it.
Off in the distance, Shinji heard the ripping of metal...
“ASUKA!!!!”
His Eva roared as Shinji shouted, he didn't need to turn around to see what was causing the noise. The last M.P.Eva was tearing through the chest plate of Unit 02 like a vulture would with the skin of a carcass...
Shinji ran, he ran like nothing else mattered. He stepped through remains of decimated M.P.Eva's grabbing a Heavy Lance sticking out of the ground pulling it to his right side, still running. He got closer to the enemy. It stopped its attack. Shinji gripped his Lance tighter as he got closer. The M.P.Eva turned to look at Shinji, but it didn't see a purple robot, it saw death itself. As it turned to look, Shinji brought the blade into a upper cut, starting from the top of the left leg, going through the core and to through the neck severing the head from the body.
Shinji dropped the Heavy Lance and dropped to his knees, he began searching the opened chest cavity of Unit 02. He found what he wanted, Unit 02's Entry Plug, still intact. Shinji slowly calmed from his berserk rage and his Eva did the same. He removed the Entry Plug with care and was about to head back to Central Dogma when he felt something against him. Shinji turned around to find an unconscious Misato floating next to him in the LCL. He pulled her into his lap and moved towards Central Dogma...

After letting the wave of memories flood her mind, Misato Katsuragi finally was able to gain some coherent thought.
'If I passed out when the Eva lost its arm and took a lance to its cranium, how do I remember the rest of the battle?'
Misato voiced her thoughts to her friend.
“You remember the fight even after losing consciousness, I can't say I know the answer to that,” Ritsuko said whilst pondering about the matter, “but I do suspect it is due to sharing the Entry Plug with Shinji and the fact his Sync Ratio reached 400 percent...”
“400 percent!” Misato recognized the familiar reading, “Eva Unit 01 went berserk?” 'But I remember, he was in control...'
“Yes, Unit 01 went berserk but not like it would usually.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well Unit 01 showed berserk combat styles and the armor constraints were broken, but Shinji was in total control.”
Misato was stunned at this revelation.
Eva Unit 01 went berserk, but Shinji was in control...
“...he... Shinji did that all by himself?,” Misato managed to get out of her mouth to her friends ears.
“Yes, he is quite the amazing one,” Ritsuko remark whilst looking Shinji, “if anyone else his age did what he did, they would probably die from the burden...”
“Why? What else did he do?”
“I thought that what I told you earlier would have been your first question.”
“And what would that be?”
“The fact we are in a NERV hospital after being attacked by the JSSDF under orders from the U.N and the Japanese government.”
Ritsuko went on to explain how after Shinji got Asuka's Entry Plug back to Central Dogma and ensured everyone made it to the nearest city for medical treatment, he discovered the reasons for the Japanese government attack and went to the capital in the Eva. Despite more JSSDF personal surrounding the capital, Shinji went straight to the Prime Minister without attacking a single living thing and offered his Eva to be destroyed to prove that NERV was no longer a threat. Surprisingly the Prime Minister agreed and Shinji came out to be a hero for both sides, to the NERV personal who survived for defending them and to Japan for showing maturity and responsibility by handing the 'weapon' over to the government for destruction. Ritsuko also mentioned the fact that he has not left her side once during the whole ordeal except when he turned Unit 01 over to the government.
Once again Misato couldn't help but stare at Shinji with desire, he went beyond the call of duty and showed maturity that is rare in people his age. He was the one she needed all this time...
'Did I just think of Shinji like that?'
'Yes you did.'
'Who are you?'
'I am you.'
'How the hell can you be me?'
'You forced me away many, many years ago.'
'What do you mean?'
'I guess you can call me your Inner-Self''
'Well Inner-Me, why am I thinking of Shinji like I am?'
'That is simple. You, I, we, Misato Katsuragi, are in love with Shinji Ikari.'
'WHAT! I can't be in love with Shinji.'
'Fine then, the Third Child, only Pilot for Unit 01, he has many names, pick one because it doesn't matter which one. The facts still remain the same. You. Love. Him.'
'But he is more like a little brother than the object of my hearts desire!'
Misato only realized what she had 'said' to herself after she had 'said' it.
'Aha, see what I mean. You yourself see him in your heart.'
Misato couldn't argue with herself, 'she' was right. She was only denying her love for him...
'But I can't just come out and say I love him'
'Didn't stop you back then at the elevator in NERV.'
She had herself there...
Ritsuko was concerned for about the silence coming from her friend.
“You are you okay Misato?”
“Hmm... huh, what?” Misato finally coming out of her dazed state, “Oh I'm okay, don't mind me, I'm just thinking...”
'Like having an argument with your mind is classified as okay...'
“What are you thinking about?'”
“Well just about Shinji and how much he has changed...” 'along with how much I want him.' Misato added mentally.
'Told you so.'
'Shut up...'
Ritsuko was about to speak again when the one that was on Misato's mind began rousing from his uncomfortable yet peaceful slumber...

Well thats the end of the first chapter. It may seem a bit short, but time is precious for me at the moment, I'll get the next chapter up soon. I hope people like it, please R&R, but DONT FLAME PLEASE! Its been god knows how long since I've written something so constructive reviews on how to improve would be appreciated.
I will do lemon soon, it won't turn into PWP unless I get really desperate with the story and need something to keep it alive.
Also the Heavy Lance thing is correct, I checked and well Heavy Lance sounded better than a Double Sided- Double Bladed sword or something like that.
Well thanks for reading and I'll get chapter two done once my Gendo Ikari of a boss gives me a break...
Remember that defeating an Angel-a-day, keeps Third Impact at bay, (until some bastard uses Adam in his right hand and starts groping for Rei/Lilith's S2 engine, but that doesn't matter at the moment...)
Also if haven't noticed already, I really hate Gendo Ikari. Like really hate, more than ninjas hate Chuck Norris and vice versa.

Then I realize something, the substance on my face...

He places the cross her wore around his neck into my hands and then closes the hatch on the capsule...
Only after the hatch closed did I realize he actually loved me...
I feel a shock wave hit the capsule, pushing it into the ocean...
After what seemed like an eternity, the hatch opened...
I sit up and start to look around...
Then I see it... a being of light... Adam...
It the it hit me... Second Impact has just occurred...

Misato Katsuragi awoke from her nightmare in a pitch black room, breathing heavily and covered in a cold sweat. After a minute, she finally calms down and lays back down. She then realized that the ceiling was not the one she was used to, she shots back upright then starts looking around. She can't see much in room she is in, but she feels something on her leg. Misato sees Shinji Ikari, sleeping peacefully on her left leg, she tries reaching out to shake him awake, but she winces in pain as her left arm moves away from her body.
“Oww....”
“I see your finally awake.”
Misato looks to her right and sees someone in the bed next to hers, someone she thought she would never see again...
“Ritsu-chan,” Misato whispers out, not wanting to wake Shinji, “w-wh-what are doing here? But more importantly, where is here?”
“I'm here for the same thing as you, healing up. And here is a private NERV hospital in Nagano.”
“Why aren't we at the NERV hospital at Tokyo-3?”
“You don't remember?”
“No, not really.”
Ritsuko looked at here friend with a slight shock, but then again with what happened, she can't blame her if she sub-consciously forced herself to forget.
“Well where to begin...”
Ritsuko decided to just give it to her straight,
“Tokyo-3 was destroyed if you can call what happened to it that...”
“Destroyed?!? How?”
“Well, NERV was invaded by the JSSDF a little over a week ago...”
“Wwwhhhaatttt!” Misato whispered as quietly as she could.
“Yes, I know, its a hard fact to get around,” Ritsuko said with a hint of despair in her voice. “I just found out myself two days ago that they were under orders from SEELE, through the UN and the Japanese Government.”
Misato just sat there, stunned with numerous thoughts running through her mind.
'How many died?'
'Why did SEELE turn against us and order the destruction of NERV-HQ?'
'Who survived?'
'What happened to my arm?'
'Why is Shinji sleeping on my leg?'
After a good minute of letting her thoughts collect themselves, she decided to ask the latter of the question on her mind.
“What is Shinji doing here?”
“Shinji was the one who saved those of us who are still alive, yourself included.”
Misato looked at Shinji with a bit of a shock.
“He... saved us?”
Ritsuko nodded. “When you got to the Cages, he took you into the Entry Plug with him.”
Misato continued to look on in shock.
“He piloted Eva Unit 01, destroyed the Mass Production Eva's, managed to save Asuka's entry plug before it was destroyed AND fought the JSSDF forces back into a retreat.”
It then hit Misato harder than the fact that she and Ritsuko where the only survivors of the explosion that occurred at the factory were the 13th angel was being tested at.
She remembered...
She remembers killing the three men who had found Shinji...
She remembers trying to convince Shinji to pilot...
She remembers taking a shot in the arm to protect Shinji...
She remembers kissing Shinji, telling him he was a grown up with grown up responsibilities...
She remembers pushing Shinji into the elevator, only to have him pull her in before it closes...

Day of JSSDF Invasion.
~*~
Shinji was in shock at the moment, not because Misato took a bullet meant for him, not because she was telling him that he mustn't run away and that he was now a grown-up with grown-up responsibility and not because she was kissing him... Misato, someone who he considered more of a big sister that anything was showing him affection he only received rarely. Love. Whether it be love from a family member, or love between and man and his wife, or just love for those who are in your life. This emotion Misato was giving to Shinji was love. It felt like a warm blanket was surrounding him and that he was safe from everything, then Misato cupped his face in her hands and said...
“When you come back... we'll do the rest...”
Shinji started to feel cold again and vulnerable, he didn't want this feeling to go away. He was about to start his 'I mustn't run away' mental chant to give himself the courage to at least say something, but he didn't feel the need to, he felt like he could do anything. The elevator door behind him opened and Misato pushed him in, 'no more running...'
Shinji after a year of combating the Angels for the sake of mankind, after putting up with everyone with little emotional support from those around him, after Asuka's constant insults and beatings, after putting up with the fact the his father only had him come to Tokyo-3 because he had a purpose for him. After all that has happened to him, the one emotion that gives him a spine is love, the love Misato gave him was what gave Shinji the courage to do what he did next...
Misato was leaning against the wall next to the elevator, exhausted and looking at the floor when she felt a hand grab her wrist and pull her into the elevator. She fell onto her knees in the elevator due to being exhausted from all the trouble she went thought to get here, “Shinji-kun, w-what are you doing?”
“I'm protecting those whom I love Misato-chan.” Shinji said with a smile whilst looking into Misato's brown eyes.
With that said, the doors behind Misato shut.
“Let me have a look at that...” Shinji said in a caring and loving tone, slowly taking off her jacket to look at the gunshot wound.
He takes of his shirt to use as a make-shift bandage, leaving him in his figure hugging undershirt.
Misato can't help but stare at his chest, she had no idea he was hiding such a nice body underneath the loose shirt that was now being tired around her left arm. After Shinji had applied the make-shift bandage, he helped Misato get back into her jacket.
“Thank you... Shinji-chan...”
Shinji sat on the floor next to Misato, placing his head on her shoulder waiting for the elevator to get to the cages.
Once at the cages, Misato told Shinji to go on and that she'll wait for him.
“No Misato-chan, I just WON'T leave you behind. I just WON'T! You mean too much to me too loss, I don't want to loss you Misato-chan...”
Misato felt something that she had only felt once in her life, nearly 16 years ago. She didn't understand it back then but she finally understands now. Just like her father, Shinji had risked his life to protect her. To Misato, this was love... not like the love she felt for Kaji, that was more physical and her feeble attempts to find a man like her father. Shinji showed to her that no length was to great for him as long as he had her, he risked himself for her...
“Oh Shinji-chan... how can you take me with you?”
“Your coming into the Entry Plug with me.”
Misato feared going into the Entry Plug because of what it reminded her of, the feeling of being trapped and helpless inside the capsule like object... But if it meant she would be with Shinji, she would do it, for him...
“Ok Shinji-chan... lets go.”
*In Central Dogma, The Operations Room*
“Aaaaahhhhh!”
Ibuki Maya is under her computer station clutching to her pink cushion, trying to drown out the gun fight she is in the middle of. Through all of the noise of gunshots and people screaming in pain, she notices something on her laptop.
“What the... guys! Unit 01 has activated, Shinji got to the cages just fine!”
“Finally,” Aoba Shigeru said whilst ducking for cover from several shot fired in his general direction, “we could really use the help!”
“Yeah thats true,” said Hyuuga Makato was also taking cover from the onslaught, “but do you thing Shinji will be able to fight knowing that the enemy is a fellow man and not an Angel?”
“Who knows? But for our sake, I hope he will...”
Aoba and Hyuuga were about to start shooting back again when the answer to there question was answered. Unit 01 in all of its tall, purple pride bust through the same wall it did when Zeruel the 14th Angel was attacking Central Dogma. Using his Eva, Shinji punched the walkway the soldiers were standing on, those who weren't crushed by the purple fists, fell off the sides. He then sent another punch to the passage way the soldiers were coming through effectively blocking it, this would buy the technicians to escape if needed.
“Shinji,” Maya was using her laptop to communicate with him, “you need to hurry out to the Geo-front, the Mass Production Eva's are recovering and converging on Asuka in Unit 02 and shes run out of power, hurry Shinji!”
“Roger that.”
With that Shinji proceeded to make a hole out of Central Dogma and towards the Geo-Front...
*Terminal Dogma*
Ritsuko Akagi pressed the button on the device in her coat pocket, she waited, and waited until she pulled it out. She was planning to destroy Terminal Dogma along with Adam, Lilith and the man she thought she loved, Gendo Ikari.
“What?” She pulls out the device, “mother, how could you betray me?”
It turns out that Casper, the part MAGI that was her mother as a women had overridden the plan and stops the self-destruction sequence.
“Damn, looks like its time for plan B.”
Before Gendo could pull out his gun, Ritsuko shot twice at him.. The first clipped his shoulder, then the next round hit him in the dead center of his forehead, resulting in instant death.
She then took aim at Rei/Lilith.
“It's nothing personal, its just I would prefer it if Third Impact didn't occur...”
The then pulled the trigger, again, and again until all the round in her revolver were gone. In front of her laid the one who sort to destroy humanity to be with his wife and next to him laid the one who had the power to do so...
Ritsuko Akagi then proceeded to walk out of the room as if nothing happened even thought because of her, man kind was safe from third impact...
*Geo-Front*
(A/N: I will refer to Eva Unit 01's actions as Shinji's)
When Shinji goto the Geo-Front, the sight that greeted them made Shinji's blood chill and made Misato turn a shade of white that would have put Rei's skin tone to shame. The M.P.Eva started to regenerate and started to go towards a silent Eva Unit 02.
“COWARDS!”
Shinji pulled out his progression knife and ran at the nearest M.P.Eva, he thrust downwards into the regenerating head. Using one of his hands, he began to pull the M.P.Eva's head away from the apex created from thrusting his progression knife into the things head. He the found the S2 engine of the M.P.Eva's, but before he could make his move on it, he was forced to duck from the Heavy Lance that was being swung horizontally at him. Shinji was hoping to distract the M.P.Eva so they don't get to Asuka.
Misato could only watch on in total awe as Shinji fought against all odds, he may have been out numbered, but he still fought. In her eyes, it caused an aura of masculinity to appear around him, only making her desire him more that she already does.
Shinji used his small opening to destroy the first M.P.Eva he was attacking, he pulled the S2 engine as much as he could, then used his progression knife to remove it completely. Somehow feeling the instability of the S2 engine he forced it into the mouth of the M.P.Eva who swung at him and was still recovering from the swing. Shinji the focused his AT Field around the M.P.Eva's head, containing the explosion.
“Two down, who's next?”
Shinji grabs the Heavy Lance from the hand of the remains of one the decimated M.P.Eva and with a battle cry he charges upon the next M.P.Eva. It barely has time to respond when its is suddendly cut asunder by Shinji. Out of the six remaining M.P.Eva, another two had regenerated enough to fight back. Both of them morphed their Heavy Lances into the replica of the Lance of Longinus and they begin to spread their wings. Shinji then hurled his Heavy Lance at the closer of the two M.P.Eva's, this effectively removed and ensure that the M.P.Eva would not fly with its wings anytime soon. He then charged the other M.P.Eva with naught but his bear hands. The M.P.Eva started to take off, gaining some air only to have Shinji jump on its back pressing his feet between the head and the top of the spine, with each hand grasping a wing. Using all the strength he could muster, he severed the wings from the M.P.Eva, it howled in agony.
Shinji removed the Lance from the M.P.Eva's weakened grip and pierced the core before hurling it towards the M.P.Eva he disable mere seconds before this one, it looked up toward Shinji only to realize it was too late to dodge the Lance hurdling toward it, piecing the beasts core it was defeated. With another two M.P.Eva downed, Shinji begins his advance on the next M.P.Eva.
One of the more regenerated M.P.Eva threw their R.L.Longinus towards Shinji He slowed it down with his AT Field then grabbed it before it penetrated his Eva's armor. Another M.P.Eva attacked with its Heavy Lance, Shinji parries the blows with his Lance. Then when the opportunity presented itself to him, Shinji brought the Lance down on the M.P.Eva's head. For some reason unknown to Shinji, the R.L.Longinus morphed into a pole arm like form instead of its usual fork like form. Not that he cared much but with his newly morphed Lance, he brought it down as hard as he could, after the fifth continuous blow, he split the beast asunder.
The M.P.Eva who threw the Lance Shinji is now using used its chance and charged Shinji from behind. Shinji didn't turn around in time and felt a massive pain in his side as the M.P,Eva crashed into him. The M.P.Eva was trying to hold down Shinji long enough for another M.P.Eva to help subdue him to initiate Third Impact, but they didn't know a certain doctor stopped that from happening.
Whilst struggling against the M.P.Eva, Misato noticed something that Shinji might be able to use.
“Shinji look!,” she points the object out to him, “that Asuka's progression knife!”
Without needing to be told twice, Shinji reached for it and grasps it in his hands. Then drives the blade into the M.P.Eva's core. Rather than pull it out, he ejects the blade and another slide out of the handle. For once he was glad Asuka had as she would say 'superior equipment'. Tossing the M.P.Eva's body aside he then advances on the remaining three Eva.
The remaining M.P.Eva's brace themselves for Shinji's assault, one of them spreads their wings in Shinji's direction hoping to provoke him into rushing blindly. It works, Shinji rushes towards the one M.P.Eva, progression knife at the ready. He leaps up into the air hoping to catch the M.P.Eva before it takes off, he lands on the M.P.Eva then forces him onto the ground. Shinji with both hands on the progression knife above his head, bring it down upon the M.P.Eva's core... but the knife never reaches its target. When he noticed this then feels the pain, the other two M.P.Eva had thrown their R.L.Longinus at him, one pierces his right shoulder, effectively removing his right arm , the other is skewered in his head...
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!”
Shinji is clutching his head with his left hand whilst his right just lays limply at his side.
*Central Dogma*
“Oh my god!”
Maya looked up from her laptop at her two fellow technicians.
“What, whats happened?” Hyuuga asks whilst helping other near-by technician with there injuries.
“It's Shinji, his Sync Ratio has dropped for 98.2 percent to 3.6 percent, neural connections one though to forty three have been disconnected. He can't move his Eva!”
“Oh I wouldn't worry about that too much...”
Just then, from behind the three technicians, a one Ritsuko Akagi appears from an elevator in the floor.
“Sempai! Where have you been, and what makes you say that?”
“I've been helping prevent Third Impact and you will see what I mean about Shinji any moment now...”
Just as those words left her mouth, howls from the hole leading out to the Geo-Front could be heard.
“ You don't think that...” Maya quickly looked at her laptop, “Unit 01 has gone berserk, Sync Ratio at 400 percent, all neural connections in place...” The silence was heavy among the technicians.
“As much we hate for Unit 01 to go berserk,” Aoba deciding to break the silence among them, “I do believe it couldn't of happened at a better time.”
“Your right there,” Hyuuga said, “but still...”
*Back on the Geo-Front*
In the Entry Plug, Misato had already passed out from the pain she felt whilst in the LCL. Shinji was on the brink of passing out when all around him went white, and he heard 'her' voice. The one who always helped him when he needed it when piloting the Eva. “Do you need me to help you again?” The voice was filled with nothing but love for Shinji. He nodded with a smile, “well her you go, I hope it's enough for you...”
Shinji was finally back in the controls of the Eva, but he didn't feel like he was piloting the Eva. It felt like... he was the Eva...
Shinji noticed the two M.P.Eva's that had caused him to go berserk. Forgetting all about the M.P.Eva being crushed underneath him, he made his battle cry heard. Using the progression knife, he hacked off the arm of the M.P.Eva underneath him, grabbed the severed limb and placed it where his right arm once was. Once again, just like with the 14th Angel, Shinji's arm regrew using the 'materials' provided. The M.P.Eva beneath his was beginning to struggle., trying to escape what it knew was coming. Shinji pulled the R.L.Longinus out of his head, them just like was trying to do with Asuka's progression knife, he penetrated the M.P.Eva's core with the Lance.
He then turned on the last two M.P.Eva... They paused for a second, receiving new orders from SEELE. The old men could see from the monitors that their attempts to bring about Third Impact were thwarted by fourteen boy. They knew that they couldn't win so they thought they should at least give the boy a parting gift. SEELE ordered the remaining two M.P.Eva to go after the Second Child...
Shinji turned to see the last two Mass Production Evangelion, make they way toward the inactive Unit 02 with they Heavy Lances in hand. Shinji grabbed the Lance out of the dead M.P.Eva and charged at the two...
The two M.P.Eva spread their wings and began to take flight, to avoid the wraith of the berserk pilot of Unit 01... or so they thought they could. Shinji launched his lance towards one of the M.P.Eva, it penetrating the things left wing, causing it to lose altitude slowly. Shinji then charged the falling M.P.Eva and beginning give it all he has. He pulled the M.P.Eva to the ground, then using his AT Field as a weapon to remove the things arms. He then used one of the freshly removed limbs to club the M.P.Eva, after clubbing for a good minute he then started to punch the core.
Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. The core begins to show slight signs of cracking. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right... The core then shattered from the force of the berserk Eva attacking it.
Off in the distance, Shinji heard the ripping of metal...
“ASUKA!!!!”
His Eva roared as Shinji shouted, he didn't need to turn around to see what was causing the noise. The last M.P.Eva was tearing through the chest plate of Unit 02 like a vulture would with the skin of a carcass...
Shinji ran, he ran like nothing else mattered. He stepped through remains of decimated M.P.Eva's grabbing a Heavy Lance sticking out of the ground pulling it to his right side, still running. He got closer to the enemy. It stopped its attack. Shinji gripped his Lance tighter as he got closer. The M.P.Eva turned to look at Shinji, but it didn't see a purple robot, it saw death itself. As it turned to look, Shinji brought the blade into a upper cut, starting from the top of the left leg, going through the core and to through the neck severing the head from the body.
Shinji dropped the Heavy Lance and dropped to his knees, he began searching the opened chest cavity of Unit 02. He found what he wanted, Unit 02's Entry Plug, still intact. Shinji slowly calmed from his berserk rage and his Eva did the same. He removed the Entry Plug with care and was about to head back to Central Dogma when he felt something against him. Shinji turned around to find an unconscious Misato floating next to him in the LCL. He pulled her into his lap and moved towards Central Dogma...

After letting the wave of memories flood her mind, Misato Katsuragi finally was able to gain some coherent thought.
'If I passed out when the Eva lost its arm and took a lance to its cranium, how do I remember the rest of the battle?'
Misato voiced her thoughts to her friend.
“You remember the fight even after losing consciousness, I can't say I know the answer to that,” Ritsuko said whilst pondering about the matter, “but I do suspect it is due to sharing the Entry Plug with Shinji and the fact his Sync Ratio reached 400 percent...”
“400 percent!” Misato recognized the familiar reading, “Eva Unit 01 went berserk?” 'But I remember, he was in control...'
“Yes, Unit 01 went berserk but not like it would usually.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well Unit 01 showed berserk combat styles and the armor constraints were broken, but Shinji was in total control.”
Misato was stunned at this revelation.
Eva Unit 01 went berserk, but Shinji was in control...
“...he... Shinji did that all by himself?,” Misato managed to get out of her mouth to her friends ears.
“Yes, he is quite the amazing one,” Ritsuko remark whilst looking Shinji, “if anyone else his age did what he did, they would probably die from the burden...”
“Why? What else did he do?”
“I thought that what I told you earlier would have been your first question.”
“And what would that be?”
“The fact we are in a NERV hospital after being attacked by the JSSDF under orders from the U.N and the Japanese government.”
Ritsuko went on to explain how after Shinji got Asuka's Entry Plug back to Central Dogma and ensured everyone made it to the nearest city for medical treatment, he discovered the reasons for the Japanese government attack and went to the capital in the Eva. Despite more JSSDF personal surrounding the capital, Shinji went straight to the Prime Minister without attacking a single living thing and offered his Eva to be destroyed to prove that NERV was no longer a threat. Surprisingly the Prime Minister agreed and Shinji came out to be a hero for both sides, to the NERV personal who survived for defending them and to Japan for showing maturity and responsibility by handing the 'weapon' over to the government for destruction. Ritsuko also mentioned the fact that he has not left her side once during the whole ordeal except when he turned Unit 01 over to the government.
Once again Misato couldn't help but stare at Shinji with desire, he went beyond the call of duty and showed maturity that is rare in people his age. He was the one she needed all this time...
'Did I just think of Shinji like that?'
'Yes you did.'
'Who are you?'
'I am you.'
'How the hell can you be me?'
'You forced me away many, many years ago.'
'What do you mean?'
'I guess you can call me your Inner-Self''
'Well Inner-Me, why am I thinking of Shinji like I am?'
'That is simple. You, I, we, Misato Katsuragi, are in love with Shinji Ikari.'
'WHAT! I can't be in love with Shinji.'
'Fine then, the Third Child, only Pilot for Unit 01, he has many names, pick one because it doesn't matter which one. The facts still remain the same. You. Love. Him.'
'But he is more like a little brother than the object of my hearts desire!'
Misato only realized what she had 'said' to herself after she had 'said' it.
'Aha, see what I mean. You yourself see him in your heart.'
Misato couldn't argue with herself, 'she' was right. She was only denying her love for him...
'But I can't just come out and say I love him'
'Didn't stop you back then at the elevator in NERV.'
She had herself there...
Ritsuko was concerned for about the silence coming from her friend.
“You are you okay Misato?”
“Hmm... huh, what?” Misato finally coming out of her dazed state, “Oh I'm okay, don't mind me, I'm just thinking...”
'Like having an argument with your mind is classified as okay...'
“What are you thinking about?'”
“Well just about Shinji and how much he has changed...” 'along with how much I want him.' Misato added mentally.
'Told you so.'
'Shut up...'
Ritsuko was about to speak again when the one that was on Misato's mind began rousing from his uncomfortable yet peaceful slumber...

Well thats the end of the first chapter. It may seem a bit short, but time is precious for me at the moment, I'll get the next chapter up soon. I hope people like it, please R&R, but DONT FLAME PLEASE! Its been god knows how long since I've written something so constructive reviews on how to improve would be appreciated.
I will do lemon soon, it won't turn into PWP unless I get really desperate with the story and need something to keep it alive.
Also the Heavy Lance thing is correct, I checked and well Heavy Lance sounded better than a Double Sided- Double Bladed sword or something like that.

Remember that defeating an Angel-a-day, keeps Third Impact at bay, (until some bastard uses Adam in his right hand and starts groping for Rei/Lilith's S2 engine, but that doesn't matter at the moment...)
Also if haven't noticed already, I really hate Gendo Ikari. Like really hate, more than ninjas hate Chuck Norris and vice versa.
