Breeder's Research Facility

Notes: As with most fics containing a psychic-type, there are multiple forms of communication, the following is the key.

"Normal speech"
'Thought'
//Telepathy//

“Okay, Kirlea…” A lad bearing a labcoat announced. “Today we are experimenting with a Team Rocket solution that has been claimed to increase evolution. We are presently unsure of what it does, but Professor Oak has entrusted us with this. However, I want your consent before I do it.”

“Kir…” The psychic type nodded and rolled back a protective layer to show a green arm beneath.

“I knew you would agree…” The researcher smiled. “After all, we are almost the same person.” He raised a needle and injected the contents into his familiar’s arm. As the serum coursed through the Pokemon’s veins, it was surrounded with a white light. “Kirlea’s evolving… Just as I was told…” As the light quelled, a green form covered in a mop of green hair and a white long coat stood in the place of the small Pokemon. “Gardevoir…”

“Garde…” The Pokemon nodded.

“Well…” He glanced. “Let’s take a few snapshots and send the data to Professor Oak… And I think that Professor Rowan would like to hear about the gender differences for your kind as well.”

Next day, the researcher, now dressed in a blue traveler’s vest over a black outfit, was looking over his messages. As this morning ritual was carried out, a ring came on the phone. With the flip of a switch, the screen changed to a picture of a Jigglypuff with a sign saying “voice only”. “Good morning, and thank you for calling Burida research facility. How can I help you?” He said with a smile.

“Burida.” A familiar voice called. “Are you there?”

With another switch, the researcher was looking at the famous Professor Rowan. “Good morning, Professor.”

“So you are there.” He nodded. “And good morning. I wanted to speak with you about this Gardevoir you have.”

“Yes.” The younger nodded. “I assume the difference is that unlike most specimens, mine is male, and I sent off notes to Professor Oak to double-check the assumed affects from artificial evolution.”

“Sounds like you’re working hard again.” He nodded. “Better than the worthless shits in my lab who only observe the Pokemon walking around.”

“By the way, Professor.” The researcher glanced. “I am almost finished with the second take on my doctoral thesis.”

“Ah, yes… That paper…” The elder laughed. “I’m amazed you haven’t been killed yet for that thesis… People and Pokemon being related…”

“No mild mannered man ever made history…” He smirked. “And between yourself and the three trees, there isn’t much room for new developments in Pokemon studies.” He quickly gained an annoyed look at a red flash on the controls. “I apologize, sir, but I have some business to attend to, so I’ll let you go.”

“That quite fine…” The professor nodded, “I have to check on some children I have helping me. Keep well.”

The researcher sighed as he switched over to see the face of the Ringtown Ranger Leader. “What pleasure do I have your call today, Spenser?”

The leader leaned in. “We need you to do a mission for us.”

The researcher sighed. “I can’t be a trainer and a ranger at the same time, and I told you this when I resigned.”

“Please Burida?” He begged. “Our client asked for you by name…”

Burida rolled his eyes. “Fine, but I get a cut of the profit.” He stated, “And don’t expect me to follow the Ranger’s rules.”

“I expected that, which is why we only called for an S class mission.”

“Where’s the mission?”

“You know the Dark Factory team Go-Rock was using? Apparently a rather Ill-tempered Alakazam has been causing trouble.”

“Well… I do need an Alakazam…” He smirked. “I think I will go for this. I’ll be back soon with the culprit in hand.”

The leader twitched. “Whatever. We’re too busy for this.”

The old factory had a dark sheen from the disuse from the team’s evil experiments. The two-man team was working on clearing the parameter as they honed in on the psionic disturbance. “See anything, Gard?”

//I found the target.// The psychic nodded. //Use those wonderful opposable thumbs and open this damned door.//

“Holy fuck, you can use telepathy?”

The Pokemon had a very unimpressed look on his face. //I see that the future of Fiore is in good hands.// He mentally snarled. //Now open the door.//

As the heavy door gave way, the two were face to face with the intruder. //How dare you disturb my peace!// The Alakazam shouted.

“We are here because your peace is at the cost of the citizens of Fall City.” He answered. “I will ask you to come peacefully.”

//I refuse.//

The Gardevoir stepped forward. //Allow me…// He smirked. //I’ll get some negotiations done…// He stepped forward, his trench coat billowing dramatically as he discarded it to show the red spire that stuck from the center of his chest. //I know exactly what this criminal needs…// With the skilled hands of his race, the Pokemon brushed gently against the breastplate of his opponent and along the neckline. “Gardevoir…” He breathed in the strange mysticism of his kind’s voice.

//Not infront of this human…// The monster pleaded.

Burida rolled his eyes. “I’ll be by the fountain in town.” He sighed. “Just don’t be too late.”

//You can count on me.//

At the fountain that sits before the Fall City docks, the researcher was simply sitting to watch the Ludicolo dance to pass the time. “Christ. First I get a male Ralts, now a female Alakazam… Can’t I get at least one thing the way it’s supposed to?”

Upon hearing the familiar tap on the pavement, the researcher turned to see his companion with the Alakazam attached to his arm. //You see? All she needed was some love.//

“Love, or lovin’?” The researcher smirked. “You seem to not have much trouble with either.”

//Stop… Please…// The Alakazam blushed.

With a laugh and a flick, Burida was on his phone. “Hey, Spense, we got the culprit. Come to the fountain in Fall city, and we’ll discuss the details and do a slight debriefing.”

“Great, I’ll be there shortly.”
