Chapter One - "Mistake"
There will be no more of this chess game. My time of toying is over. This war has become pointless tit for tat tactics every time I and my digimon slaves are defeated. It was fun at first, but now, the humiliation will end. Time; Aspects of it will become irrelevant at my hand, a moment will elapse many years. Manipulation of time, age, and heart. I will destroy them by the only thing they cannot fight. Not even their digimon, as strong as they may be, cannot even hope to combat the arms of time. But, it's no simple matter. No. I'll have to find an excuse for them to trust me outside of the digital world. That isn't my only obstacle, however. Controlling a digimon of that caliber will take more than a few million spires and a dark spiral or thirty. It'll take more than I have right now. How will I do it, Wormmon? Perhaps I'll make a dark version, like DarkWarGreymon. But, how do I control a digimon of that caliber? It's possible. Inevitable. But, discovering how will be...interesting. Time, Wormmon, is what I need. Time, and a miracle. Do people like me get miracles?...Maybe I should make my own miracle. I am a god, after all...

"...Of course," droned on the monotoned voice of Joe's substitute teacher. His usual teacher had taken extra time for spring break, and so all week, Joe and the rest of the medical students were subjected to the horrors of a week of review on either end of their Spring Break. "You've got to keep in mind that most people don't like injections of any sort. Especially children. It always helps to have them dangle and relax their arm, and then they won't-" *RINNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!* "Okay. Read Chapter 27 and have a 10 page report on Cardiac Arrest Procedure the first day back from Spring Break." Finally, the class was over. Now, Joe wasn't really one to complain about class, but review was always really dull. He knew the importance of it, and he truly wouldn't miss a day of it; but it was the last class before a full two weeks of spring break. Usually, his school never let out for Spring Break; but thanks to renovations and time constraints, Joe and the entire building got to have a full 2 week reprieve from their classes. It was a well deserved break.
Joe closed his books, already beginning to ponder about what aspect of Cardiac Arrest he'd chose to focus on; which typical scenario, which age group. He slipped the books within the well-worn navy blue book bag he had, which matched his hair. Mimi had sent it to him long ago. With it finally slung over his shoulder, Joe slipped out of the large classroom along with the throng of people amidst him. He didn't really like crowds, but he'd gotten used to the discomfort by now.
"Joe!" called a voice, but he'd missed it, so deep in thought about his impending report. "JOE!" it came again, also unheard. It's owner giggled softly. She weaved her way closer, a smile on her face. As she got beside his obviously deep-in-thought face, she spoke again. "Uh-oh, looks like someone gave Joe homework." Joe flipped his head in the direction of her voice, and jumped. He hadn't expected anyone.
"Jade! Hi! When did you get into town?" he beamed. Jade was his ex, but they still managed to remain close friends post-break. She was pretty enough; nothing super-model about her. Of course, Joe though she was prettier than anyone on earth, and probably always would. They just weren't compatible much more than friends, and they knew it. Jade had eyes like her namesake, and had hair as brown as walnut wood. Right now though, she had streaks of blond and black that'd been put in recently, and her skin wasn't porcelain like it used to be. She'd gotten some sun, but not enough to make anyone but him notice. She was still the tomboy he knew her as, though. She had on a green camo-print tee shirt on, and black flairs with her white sneakers.
"I got back today. The lead never really got anywhere, unfortunately. At least I got some decent shots of the scenery and the village to sell to National Geographer. How's my favorite med student?" Her voice reminded him of cream, or at least how cream would sound if it were one, and hearing it's beauty again made him blush.
"Well, I've been rather active lately. But I have 2 weeks for spring vacation now, thanks to the building boom and the school cafeteria and bathrooms needing a code upgrade. I should have a nice break once I get my paper done." Jade laughed.
"Oh Joe, you should worry about that LATER."
"I will, actually. Right now I'm going to meet the gang. Wanna come?" Joe mentally smacked himself. It was supposed to be a meeting with the new digi-destined and the old to talk about combating the recent uprising of violence from the Kaiser. The evidence was all over his face about his error.
"Sure. I've gotta go drop something off somewhere else; where are we all meeting? I'll catch up in a bit." Joe heaved a breath of relief. At least he could warn them and talk about it before she came.
"At Davis' place. Jun and his parents are gone for the weekend at a women's convention, so he has the place to himself all week, since they're staying a while to relax."
"Okay. See you there, Joe!" she kissed his shoulder goodbye, merely because she couldn't reach his cheek. She was rather short in that respect. She walked off happily, and Joe turned to the nearby door. That would have been awkward to talk himself out of, to say the least. Little did he know that Jade was trailing behind him as he headed towards Davis' home. She'd only met Davis and his friends once, when Joe brought her to a party there. But, she had photographic memory, and still knew where it was. Joe was hiding something from her, and she wanted to know what.

AN: Yeah, it's a little short. But it's just to get people curious. PLEASE review though, because if there aren't any reviews, that means no one likes the story, and I may as well stop writing it. So, review if you like it. It keeps me writing! :) -Kari
