Lazy Afternoons

Chapter 1: Off Duty

This is set in the Viridian City Pokemon center

Nurse Joy looked out the door, bored almost to the point of tears.

(There hasn’t been a single trainer in all day), she thought to herself, getting out of her chair. As soon as she did, her legs began to ache with a dull pain. (Great, my legs fell asleep).

She took a few steps, each one causing the sensation of walking on pins, but it didn’t take very long for the feeling to pass. Joy walked into the back room, checking on the Pokemon that were in the ICU. After making sure that all of them were stable, she went to the incubation chamber and made sure that all the eggs were fine. After making her rounds, Joy returned to the front desk and sat back down. Sighing, she scooted her chair over to the computer and started up a game of cards. After about the tenth straight loss, she decided to give up.

Joy stretched out, yawning, when the doors opened up, and Officer Jenny walked in, wearing a plain whit shirt and a blue jean mini-skirt.

“Hey Joy. Looks like you could use some company.”

Joy nodded. “Yeah, I haven’t had a single person in all day. But shouldn’t you be out on patrol?” Joy asked.

Jenny shook her head. “Nope, I got the day off. But there’s nothing to do, so I figured I’d drop by if you weren’t busy,” she said, looking around the empty Pokemon Center.

“Well, as you can see, I’m definitely not doing anything,” Joy sighed. “But since you’re here, things will be less boring.”

The two of them started to talk, discussing everything from the news to the newest episodes of their favorite soap operas. After a while, lunch time rolled around. “Hey Joy, what do you say we get something to eat? I’ll pay,” Jenny offered.

“I’m not sure. Even though no one's been here all day, I really shouldn’t leave,” Joy said, sounding a bit disappointed.

“Well, we could always just have something delivered.”

Joy nodded. Jenny pulled out her cell phone and ordered some pizza. “It should be here pretty soon,” Jenny told Joy after hanging up.

“Good, I’m hungry,” Joy said. Her stomach let out a low rumbling growl. She blushed slightly as Jenny chuckled.

“I guess you are. Well, while we’re waiting, what do you say we do something to kill the time?”

“Like what?”

Jenny thought for a few minutes. “How about a game of cards?” Jenny suggested, pulling out a deck from her jacket pocket.

“You know I’m no good at poker,” Joy said as Jenny began to shuffle.

“Yep, that’s why I asked. I know I can beat you,” she said as she began to deal the cards out.

Joy reluctantly picked up her hand and saw that it was actually pretty good. Even though her first hand was great, Joy got nothing but crap afterwards, and was now about twenty dollars in debt to Jenny. Right as she was about to lose even more money, the pizza arrived.

“Looks like you're off the hook for now,” Jenny said, picking up her winnings to pay the delivery man. After he left, she walked back over. “It’s getting kind of late. What do you say to going to the back room? I don’t think you have to worry about any trainers coming in, and if they do, Chansey can take care of them and let you know if it's an emergency.”

Joy thought about it for a few seconds. “I guess you're right.”

Joy called Chansey from the supply room where she had been taking inventory, and told her to watch the front desk and to only get her if it was a major problem. Joy and Jenny went into the back where Joy’s room was.

“What do you say we pop in a movie?” Jenny said, looking at a stack of DVDs before sitting on the bed, putting the pizza box on a small table next to her. Joy walked over to the pile of DVDs.

“Okay. What do you think we should watch?” Joy asked, pulling out a few movies.

“Whatever you want,” Jenny said, taking out a slice of pizza and blowing on it to cool it slightly. Joy picked up a romantic comedy that she liked and popped it into the player before joining her friend on the bed. As the two of them sat there watching the movie, Joy couldn’t help but notice how cute Jenny looked whenever she laughed. Her hair bounced a bit with even the slightest chuckle. Joy shook her head, trying to clear her mind of those thoughts. (Jenny’s my best friend, and another woman at that. I shouldn’t think about her like that), Joy scolded herself, turning her attention back to the TV screen.

After the movie was over, Jenny looked at the alarm clock. “It’s really late. I should get going,” she said, getting up.

“Okay, see you later,” Joy said as she walked Jenny to the door. The two of them said goodbye, but right before Jenny left, Joy thought about how cute her old friend looked, and without even thinking, she kissed Jenny on the lips.

The police officer looked at Joy for a few seconds, too stunned to say or do anything. Joy stood there looking at Jenny, when suddenly she felt a sharp sting across her cheek. Jenny’s eyes were full of anger. “What was that about!” she practically screamed, before running off into the dimly lit streets. Joy put her hand to her face, which was burning slightly from the slap, and she could feel hot tears running down her face.

Okay originally this was going to be a pwp one shot but somehow it’s ended up as more for one thing in every story I write the girls always go right along with it so I wanted to write something that actually seemed a bit more real in that Jenny’s still in the closet.
