Chapter one:
Shuichi shindou deeply sighed as he sat next to his bedroom window and leaned his forehead on the cold, metal frame. Hugging his knees close to his chest, Shuichi watched as the flakes of snow waltzed down from the white clouds and settled on the dirty ground. He usually enjoyed snowy days, but not today.
"Shuichi! Get your ass down here, now!"
Ignoring his mom completely, Shuichi swallowed a lump in his throat as he saw, Mina, the neighbor girl and her boyfriend sitting on the old, wooden bench, laughing loudly and giving each other occasional, shy smiles. They looked so happy.
It was Valentine's Day after all.
Shuichi wasn't a sentimental guy. He neither was interested to have a girlfriend, nor did he have the time to have one. Shaking his head furiously, Shuichi told himself that the reason why he was feeling so down today wasn't because of loneliness. He didn't need anybody. He was happy with his life. Or that's what he kept telling himself.
Standing up lazily, Shuichi groaned as he felt pins and needles on his feet. Stumbling out of his small room, Shuichi hesitated for a moment at the door before making his way toward his dad's bedroom. It had been a while since he had seen him. He misses talking to him.
Resting his hand on the cold handle, Shuichi scratched the back of his neck as he opened the door and walked inside. The room was cold and dark. Walking on the cold floor with his bare feet and murmuring a few curses under his breath; Shuichi opened the ugly, green curtains and snapped his eyes shut when the bright light hit his eyes.
"It's sub-zero here, dad!"
Hearing no response from his dad as usual, Shuichi softly sighed as he sat on the old, wooden chair and looked at his dad's body lying lifelessly on the bed. Things would be so much easier for him if his dad wasn't paralyzed.
"I was feeling low today, so I decided to come here and talk with you a little. You know I kinda miss you." His dad didn't say anything.
"Ryuichi's out as usual. A thousand girls are drooling over him probably. Sometimes I wish I had his charisma. I don't know what he does, but every one falls in love with him at first sight." Shuichi still heard no response, but it didn't stop him from his babbling.
"So, I didn't go to school today, because I was feeling down. Ok, that's not completely true. I didn't go to school today because I was looking for a job. I know, I know! I should focus on my studies instead, but come on dad! You know how much we need money."
Yes, they needed money. With his dad paralyzed and his mom staying at home all the time, they needed it to survive. Things could be so much easier if Ryuichi, Shuichi's older brother, gave up hanging out with his friends and focused on his job instead. Sure, Ryuichi usually came home with money. But only God knew from where all that money came from.
Shuichi's life had never been easy, but things went from bad to worse when the fatal accident happened over a year ago. His uncle died and his dad went completely paralyzed. He could only move his eyes, lips and neck after that. Worst of all, he never talked to anybody anymore. Shuichi wasn't sure, but he guessed it was because he blamed himself for his brother's death.
"Come on dad. Talk to me a little. I'm getting bored."
A few minutes passed in silence before Shuichi gave up trying to make his dad speak. Funny, he came to his dad to feel better. Now, he was feeling worse. He was ready to swear Valentine's Day was the worst day of the year. At the moment, he hated anything related to love.
Standing up and smiling gently, Shuichi kissed his dad's temple before going out of the room and softly closing the door. No matter what happened, Shuichi would always love his dad.
"Shuichi!"
Flinching as he heard his mom's ungodly scream again, Shuichi ran a hand through his pink hair as he made his way downstairs. He really didn't want to see his mom at the moment. Unfortunately, he had no other choice.
"Mom?"
Shuichi softly whispered as he stepped in the living room. Since the living room was the biggest room of their so called house, it was colder than the rest of the house. Biting his lower lip in order to stop it from trembling, Shuichi took a deep breath as he looked at his mom who was standing in front of him. He could see the anger in her brown eyes and her fisted hands. Oh, oh. He already knew what was coming.
"I called you two times. Where were you?" She spoke the words slowly and clearly, making Shuichi swallow hard and bit his lip harder. Things were beginning to get ugly.
"I I didn't hear you."
"You didn't hear me?"
Shuichi closed his eyes and stepped back as his mom started to walk toward him with raised eyebrows. Oh god, not now. Please not now! Shuichi could only pray as he felt her mom's bad breath on his face. She smelled of cheap beer and cigarettes.
"You didn't hear me?" his mom repeated the question louder this time and Shuichi only nodded his head. There was a few seconds of silence before the sound of a hard slap filled the cold room.
"Ow!"
But it was just the beginning. Shuichi could only curl up in a ball on the dirty floor as his mom's strong fists hit him everywhere. Whimpering loudly as he felt a kick on his back, Shuichi clenched his eyes shut as he waited for the fit to be over. Just because it wasn't his mom's first fit didn't mean that it didn't have to hurt.
Shuichi didn't know when it was over, but when he opened his watery eyes, there was no sign of his lovely mom around. Lying on his back and staring at the cracks on the white ceiling, Shuichi tried to think about nothing because the last thing he needed was to cry like a pussy.
Few minutes passed before Shuichi managed to stand up. His body was sore from head to toe when he walked up the stairs to his room. He hated to admit it, but he loathed his moment the moment. He hated her and how she always used him as her punch bag.
The trip to his room took longer than usual and when he lay down on his worn out bed, it was almost sunset. Whether it was the pain all over his body, the loneliness, or the sad atmosphere around him, Shuichi didn't know. He just knew that he couldn't control his sobs anymore. He was tired. He was tried of living like this.
"I need to go away." Yes, he needed to run away before things went out of control. He had to go away before all the hopes of living a normal life were gone. He just couldn't take this anymore.
.
The house was drawn in a deadly silence when Shuichi quietly opened the bedroom door and walked down the stairs. Ryuichi's red anorak was a little big for his size, but it wasn't on the top of the list of his worries. Shuichi was shaking from head to toe when he opened the door and walked outside. The harsh wind slapped him on the face, and Shuichi hesitated for a second. Maybe it was a sign to go back to his room and forget about his ridiculous plan. But no! He had to do this.
"I can do this." Shuichi confidently nodded to himself as he stuffed his hands into Ryuichi's warm anorak and started to walk toward his destination. Mina's bedroom lights were on and Shuichi could only guess what she and her boyfriend were doing. He ignored the pang of jealously in his heart and started to walk faster as he felt his old sneakers socks soaking in the snow. He just had to think about his plan.
Thirty minutes later, Shuichi was standing in front of a club and shaking from head to toe, it wasn't because of the cold though. Suddenly, his plan sounded like the stupidest idea ever. He really, really couldn't do this.
"I can do this. I can do this." But Shuichi wasn't so sure anymore.
He could already hear the loud music, but it wasn't making him feel any better at all. In fact, it was making him nauseas. It still wasn't late. He just had to turn around and head back home, back to the hell hole, back to being his mom's punch bag, back to being miserable
"I can do this." And it was his final decision.
The masculine man at the entrance door didn't look very friendly and Shuichi swallowed hard before taking out Ryuichi's Id and showing it to him. He was ready to explain that he had dyed his hair pink if the man asked him why the picture and he looked so different, but thanks to god the man didn't say anything and let Shuichi inside.
The club wasn't what Shuichi had always imagined in his mind. It was so crowded that there was literally no air to breathe. He could smell cigarettes and sweat as he stepped into the crowed and gave the man in front of him a lame smile which was replied with a sexy wink. Blushing profusely, Shuichi shook his head as his hands began to tremble. Of all of his stupid ideas, coming to a gay club was the stupidest one.
"Hey there, sexy!"
Shuichi turned around as he felt a hand on his ass, and looked at the tall man in front of him with wide eyes. The man wouldn't look so tall if Shuichi wasn't so freaking short. Trying to smile and failing miserably, Shuichi only nodded his head and coughed as the man circled his slender hand around his trembling shoulders. Ok, he didn't like this at all.
"Are you here to get laid?" Not finding his voice, Shuichi only weakly nodded and blushed as the man smirked at him. Back home, the plan seemed much easier than this.
"Hmm," The man hummed as he tapped his chin with his index finger thoughtfully and Shuichi cleared his throat. What he needed was money. He was ready to do anything to get that.
"I know a good match for you."
Shuichi gave the black haired man a surprised look when the man grabbed his arm and led him to only God knew where. The music was louder than before and Shuichi could feel his heart beating loudly with the rhythm. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all. He really, really was going to turn himself into a whore.
Money, money, he just had to think about that.
"Ok, you see that blonde guy leaning on the wall?" Shuichi turned his head around and suddenly gasped as he saw the tall man. Holy shit! Shuichi usually didn't care about appearances, but this man was a piece of art. That gorgeous frame and the blonde hair oh god! Maybe he was seeing things tonight because of the lack of air
"Speechless? I know. He does that to people. Now, if you want something special, he's the one. He's a sucker for cuties."
"I'm not a cuti " Shuichi turned his head to answer, but the black haired man was already lost in the crowd. Taking a deep breath, Shuichi turned around to find the blonde man looking at him with his intense, golden eyes. That's right. Golden eyes.
Shuichi thought about running away when the man started to walk toward him with his hands buried deep in his pockets, but decided against it. The way he was walking, the way his cigarette was hanging between his lips .an illusion, Shuichi was sure it was just an illusion.
"Hi," His voice trembled as he spoke and Shuichi mentally slapped himself. Of all the things he could say, 'Hi' was the worst thing he chose. He could feel the heat in his cheeks as the man smirked and blew smoke on Shuichi's face.
"You're new here."
Since Shuichi didn't know how to answer, he decided it was better to stay silent. Blushing again as the man came nearer; Shuichi fisted his hands in order to stop his fingers from trembling. Why he was so nervous was beyond his understanding. There was just something about those eyes
"You're here to fuck or to get fucked?"
Shuichi felt the heat rushing to his cheeks and the back of his neck as he heard the words. Suddenly, reality hit him hard and he swallowed to hide his fear. He was going to sell his body for money and it felt like the dirtiest job in the world. He could suddenly feel his eyes stinging.
"Tell you what," Shuichi took a deep breath as his back hit the wall and the man rested a palm on his hips. He could feel the coldness of the fingers even through his clothes. Never before had he felt this scared in his life. The worst thing was that the man had rested his hand on a bruise.
"You turn around now; go back home to your mommy and pretend you've never been here."
Shuichi raised his eyebrows and closed his eyes as the man blew smoke on his face, again. "Why?"
"Because nobody does a kid around here." Shuichi narrowed his eyes as the man smirked and dropped his cigarette on the floor. How dare he call him a kid?
"I'm not a kid!"
His words went unnoticed as the man pulled out a packet of cigarettes out of his pocket and gave Shuichi a bored look.
"Here's not a place for experiments. It's not a place for virgins" The man lazily answered as took out his sliver lighter and lit a cigarette skillfully.
"I'm not a a virgin!" Shuichi blushed as he said the goddamn word and blushed even more when the blonde man gave him a dirty smirk. Who the hell did he think he was talking to him like that? The bastard!
"I like stubborn partners. I'd definitely give it a go if you weren't underage."
"I'm not underage!" Shuichi could swear his face was as red as tomato when he screamed the words and glared at the man with narrowed eyes. Things were just getting too embarrassing for him to bear.
"Anyway, you wouldn't handle it even if you weren't underage. I'm rough."
Shuichi was about to give a smart ass reply when somebody called the jerk.
"Yuki, what are you doing?"
"Talking to a kid."
Panting heavily and fisting his hands, Shuichi gritted his teeth as he glared at Yuki, and licked his lips slowly. He was going to show this bastard who was the kid in this place.
"Fuck you!"
"Sorry kiddo, but I'm always on top."
Shuichi closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes to reply, the man was lost in the crowd. Clenching and unclenching his hands and growling under his breath, Shuichi thought that never before had he felt this humiliated in his entire life.
Yes, Valentine's Day was definitely the worst day of the year.
