And Then, Theres Rino.

Jun says:
Well, here goes nothing.
It's my first fic in a LOOOONG time...
i hope someone is interested...

[ -------- Prologue -------- ]

As the rain fell, Rino lifelessly wondered when the last time she cried was.
Rapid sounds of 'pit pat, pit pat' echoed in her head.
She didn't know. She didn't know anything. Anyone. Not her mother, her father, a brother, a sister. At age sixteen, with long brown hair and blue eyes. Rino knew nothing, even of herself.
What difference did it make if she couldn't remember the last time she cried.
She couldn't remember who she was.
For twelve years straight, Rino was raised solely by the streets.
They taught her to be quick, to be silent, to be strong, and independant.
The truth of the matter is, Rino grew up in a place where "different" just wasn't excepted.
From the wet tiled roof of her school building, she gazed at the city
beneath the blanket of gray. The city that was her home ......
It often pained her to think, that no matter how bad they treated her, no matter what names they called her.... That city, and it's people, were the only thing she could call home, even if everything was about to change.

[ ------- There are those with strange eyes, Those with strange hair, "And Then... Theres Rino" --------- ]

It was Friday. Another day.
Another day, but also the last day. With just one week left before vacation,
Fridays were becoming more and more anticipated.
Girls whispered of their date plans. Boys bragged of their sports plans.
Rino looked out the classroom window, knowing she didn't particularly have any plans.
She thought silently.

Just then the teacher walked in and greeted the class, their normal routine.
Stand. Bow. Sit. Roll call.
When the class got settled Rino soundlessly stood up and slung her bag over her shoulder.
No one ever pays her any attention, so as soon as roll is done, she ditches.
It's useless to sit in a class where even your teacher refuses to acknowledge you.
Walking down the empty hall was relaxing until she approached class 1-B.
Fast paced padding moved in circles around the room, and there were crashing noises throught the inside of the closed door. Without any warning the classroom door busted open and the wood split into pieces.
A blue-haired boy emerged from the doorway, and turned around to disrespect his teacher.

"You can kiss my ass you bastard teacher. Just because your shit got messed up, and i sit right there don't mean i did it! You teachers here are all the same. You throw all the bullshit on me just because of my hair!"

"Why you foul-mouthed brat you..." the teacher responded. " I oughta have you...."

The boy smirked, finishing his sentence. "....expelled?"

"I'll GET YOU!!!" The teacher screamed, chasing after the boy who immediately fled.

With all the commotion, Rino hadn't noticed until it ended that someone had dropped their wallet on the floor. She picked it up and opened it to find that blue-haired kid's picture on the student ID.

"Kaminari...Hiroshi?" she whispered.

Just before she took her step to continue, the teacher from earlier rounded the corner behind her.
He panted roughly and cleared his throat. He hesitated, like they all do, and stared for a moment. Like they all do.

"Have you seen the blue-headed brat?"

Rino pointed downstairs, and the teacher sped his way down ranting incoherent things that were assumed to be about payback.
She didn't care much. To be completely honest,
she couldn't really understand why she had suddenly lied to the teacher.
Of course, dwelling on it would only mean a bigger headache than the one she was getting,
and thus she made her way to the school rooftop.

because of the height of the building, on the roof there was a breeze that couldn't be compared with many others. Rino felt, like she could feel, in that wind.
It felt like, happiness, loneliness, sadness, and excitement, balled up into one little streak of air.
While basking in said air, the rooftop door burst open with a loud BAM, soon after shutting with a similar sound.
Rino turned around to see Hiro sliding down to the floor, his
heavy breathing answered the question of his profuse sweating.
he must not have noticed her because he let a chuckle slip from his lips and nonchalantly walked to the railing opposite of where Rino stood. But before she could fully conclude that, he turned around to meet her eyes.

"I didn't know anyone else came up here."

".... only during certain periods." Rino informed.

He began taking light steps toward her, and stopping at a fair distance jutted out his hand. "I'm-"

"Hiro. Right?" she cut him off.

Naturally Hiro dropped his hand with a 'huh?' kind of expression. The answer came when she pulled a familiar wallet out of her bag.

"I see." He laughed, shyly scratching the back of his head. He stuck out his hand to recieve the torn leather that was his wallet.

Rino looked away. "I guess i was planning to give it back. I just, wasn't sure when."

Hiro quirked a brow. "...right. And you are?"

She hesitated for a moment. She wasn't sure she recalled anyone ever asking for her name.
"Rino." she answered politely.

They both motioned to shake hands, when for the third time today a door busted open.
An angry panting class 1-B homeroom teacher stood in its doorway.
He had the look of crazy plastered all over his face.
It was like the.... 'i'll kill you' look so to speak.

His first motion was to point directly at Rino!
"You!!! This is all YOUR fault!! You've been in on it the whole time! Having me chase a ghost around the school."

Hiro came to her defense raising his voice. "Don't you bring her into this! This is between you and me, she ain't got nothing to do with it!"

"OOhhhh No! You can't play me for dumb!" the teacher ground out walking toward them.
"She lead me the wrong way on PURPOSE!"

Hiro was slightly taken back

"I'll have you severly punished!" The teacher yelled grabbing her sleeve.
Before anyone else could react, he'd grabbed Hiro by the tip of his ear and the three were headed to the principle's office.

[ ********** ]

Hiro and Rino both waited quietly in the front office to be seen by the priciple.
Not long after their arrival, he poked his head out of his door and beckoned them inside his personal office.
Inside they took a seat.

"Hiro... nice to see you again." he greeted.
Hiro simply smirked.

"I know you have a habit of getting into trouble, but it's not like you to involve a friend."

Hiro straighted up. "Wait! Don't get the wrong idea, we're not friends. And she has nothing to do with it. That idiot teacher is just looking for more excuses to get people in trouble."

The principal grunted reaching into the deeper parts of his desk and pulled out a green folder.
"Let's see your record then."

he began stating her information:

Kato Rinoru,
age 16
First year, high school
5'2 and 1/2
brown hair
blue eyes
Blood Type A

"It says here that you have the potential to be a good student, but lack the ...
capacity to learn?"

Rino shrugged her shoulders. "They don't seem to mind when i leave the class..."

".. i see." was the only answer the principal thought fit to respond with.
"well you don't seem like a bad person, but Mr. Kitayama tells me you mislead him while he was searching for Hiro."

".... I did."

Hiro was sligthly shocked? "Why?" they both questioned in sync.

She shrugged yet again. "...seemed like a good idea. It kind of felt like, maybe it was me running from him. I don't know"
A swift movement outside the window caught her attention.
'imagination?' she thought to herself. 'no...someone was there'

[ ********** ]

with the ring of the final bell, everyone rushed to leave the school.
Rino was startled by the unfamiliar sound of someone calling her name.
'Hiro?'

"Hey! how was your half a day of detention?"

Rino stared at the sky... "I spent the last two periods scraping gum off the-"
the rush of an awkward feeling coursed through her body causing her to stop in mid-sentence. It was an awful feeling... or was it? No. Not awful... just strange....
like, suddenly you know something, but how do you know it?
Is that even a plausible question?
' That feeling..' Rino looked around. She noticed someone who stood out walking away.
' what the heck is that?'

"....HELLO!??? EARTH TO RINO!!" Hiro clapped his hands close to her hears.
"Wanna go grab a bite?"

"..... sure?" she answered.

Jun Says:
okay. the first chapter is Kiiind of boring.
kay, maybe a lot,
but its mainly just to introduce Rino.
basically its just to show you that she's not bad, but she's not good.
comment please okay?!

Next chapter:
We'll find out about that person who produced that odd feeling, and maybe more about Hiro. Actually they are a lot alike, they just express themselves differently.
Next chapter is when the REAL story begins..

Tanoshimi ni [ look forward to it! ]
