His dreams were sweet. His dreams were always sweet… bitter sweet, really. Dreams filled with warm, limpid, brown eyes, long, dark, brown hair framing a face so cute and youthful, and yet so tranquil. Dreams filled with a petite, perfect little body, like a perfect little doll’s, and yet so much warmer than any doll could hope to be. When his dreams turned that way he would always wake rumpled, sweaty, heaving, and wishing that he could simply sleep forever. Other times his dreams would concentrate on her voice, how it could range from sweet, thoughtful, serious, blunt as a sledgehammer, but no matter the infliction or how the words would affect him always those eyes were so wide and honest and so… so very beautiful. Times like that he would wake in tears and once again wish he would never wake up.

Though those same eyes were frightening when that voice was angry, and she was so very frightening when she was angry. Not hot-headed, but cold, so cool and calm and collected you would freeze in fear. How such pouty little lips could emit such bone chilling words were still beyond him, but then just thinking of just those lips would have his mind start wandering again. Bitter sweet, and always of her.

Today was no different, though the dream itself was. The dream were memories, such happy memories, though when thinking on them clearly they were also a bit awkward.

‘Tamaki… I’m pregnant…’ he had thought it a joke at first, and of course he panicked when he realized that she wasn’t. And oh how her father had wanted to kill him! She was a senior in high school after all and he was just in his first year at university! But if nothing else he was a man of character and integrity and he had done the best he could with the situation! He dropped out for a year to help with anything his love could have needed, helping her through morning sickness, cravings, sore and swollen muscles, hot flashes. He had moved into the apartment next door, because his father-in-law-to-be would be damned if he was going to let his only darling daughter move in with the don juan who had knocked her up, nor would he let him move in with him, though he still wanted him to take full responsibility for the situation. That had been another obstacle. Those days had been filled with so many trials, but he was happy to say he had passed them all. All it had taken was a smile, a happy light in the warm brown eyes, the beautiful glow that surrounded her when she was happy. All his worries would melt away and he knew that everything would be alright.

She finished high school, they had gotten married, moved into a good neighborhood, and Kyoji had been born before they both restarted university. She would go to classes in the day, he would go in the evening, and the only time they spent together were lunchtime and falling into an exhausted sleep together each night, too tired to do much else except hold onto each other. And there were the times that his father-in-law would baby-sit and give them both a chance to relax and study in peace. Baby worries, worries of marital problems, pleasing his wife, school, homework, tests, finals, that had been the most exhausting but happy time of his life.

Haruhi, his beautiful, strict, firm, happy wife, Kyoji, the son, living in a two story house in a cute little suburb, truly the happiest time of his life. He still had his family’s money at his disposal. Really he could have taken Haruhi to live with him in the second family mansion, but that wasn’t what he had wanted. He had wanted to live a ‘normal’ life with his family while still being able to care for them. His father had understood and helped out with his son’s dream until he graduated from university and took his place under his wing to teach him the family business. Then, upon his son’s wish he had left him to do all the providing himself. Not that he actually was doing all the providing himself. Haruhi had been invited to join one of the best law firms in the country upon graduation. Her dream job now a reality.

It had only been after they came to realize how busy they would both be in their professional lives that they finally gave in and hired a nanny to watch after their son. Well… that had been the plan. Ranka-san would not hear of it, instead of finding a nanny what ended up happening was his father-in-law moved in with them. It was no trouble, really. They had plenty of room for him. The problem was that the cross dresser’s favorite past-time was still giving his blond son-in-law a hard time. And even though he had earned his daughter’s heart, had gotten married, had started a family, Tamaki had still been so desperate to earn his approval and suffered each night just a little more to try to earn it.

Truly, those had been the happiest times in his life. ‘Haruhi… why did you leave me..?’

“-maki..!” his brows furrowed, realizing that someone was calling out to him, but more than that, he was being shaken. “TAMAKI!” The blonde was fully pulled out of the warm hold of slumber with a pillow to the face, making him cry out and sputter. “UWAH!”

“Good. You’re awake.” Ranka groused, pushing long, sleep wild waves of red hair out of his face, yawning himself. “Kyoji has bouncing around for the past half hour. You’re going to be late if he don’t get ready now.” The cross dresser was still a sight to behold. He was still one of the most beautiful people Tamaki had ever seen, man or woman. Even with another thirteen years under his belt since the first time he had seen him he was still stunning, even with his current stubble. He had aged gracefully, barely starting to form laugh lines, and if he had any gray hairs, Tamaki would never know of them since his father in law had taken to dying his hair lately, his currently color a deep, rich red color.

“What are you staring at?” Ranka inquired, just a hint of annoyance in his voice. “Get your butt out of bed and get ready, already. I’ll go make breakfast.”

“Ah!” Blue eyes widened, coming back to the hear and now. “Ranka-san! You needn’t bother with that! Why don’t you take a nice, long shower, get dressed, and I’ll take care of breakfast.” He offered his best charming smile. He knew now for a fact that Ranka could not be trusted with the cooking. The disaster area that had greeted him the last time he did cook still sent shudders down the blonde’s spine.

Brown eyes so similar and yet so completely different from the ones he fell in love him studied him hard for a moment, then he shrugged. “Suit yourself. Kyoji’s waiting.” With that, the cross-dresser turned and left the room.

Tamaki sighed heavily in relief. Once he was sure he was alone. Boy did he just dodge a bullet! Stretching his arms over his head he got out of bed and went through the motions of getting up and dressed, washing his face, brushing his hair and teeth, then headed downstairs. He stopped at the small alter in the family room, kneeling before it, lighting some incense and bringing his hands together palm to palm in a short prayer. That done he smiled softly. “Good morning, love. It’s another beautifully warm day outside. We should all go out and enjoy it.” He looked up adoringly at the portrait of his late wife, beautiful, refined, and surrounded by shoujo roses. That had been his own personal touch.

He got up, pressing his fingers to his lips, then over the lips on the portrait. “Keep my strong another, day Haruhi. I can’t do this without you.” He spoke so softly, pain clear in his deep, blue eyes. He wiped away a stray tear, offered his beautiful wife a soft smile, then made his way to the kitchen.

“It’s about time, dad! I was starting to think you had forgotten!” For a second he was almost sure that Haruhi was looking back at him, pouting at him, but the hair was different, though the same color, looking a bit more windswept, and his own blue eyes were looking up at him. He smiled and ruffled his eleven year old son’s hair.

He took in what his son was wearing and mentally sighed. Kyoji had taken to wearing Haruhi’s old clothes that the Hitachiin twins had designed for her during high school. Today was a pair of small shorts under a sleeveless shirt that buttoned down to his navel, then flared out a little, going down way past the length of the shorts to his knees, the collar and trim light ruffled. The outfit originally came with a fuzzy, long sleeve, turtle neck sweater that went under the sleeveless top, fuzzy, pompom draw strings that were merely decoration falling from just under the collar, but his son had opted to use a light blue short sleeve shirt with a little penguin mascot on the chest. It was very cute all in all.

He wouldn’t say anything, he couldn’t. How could he question his son’s fashion preferences without bringing his grandfather’s into question? Or even his mother’s because Tamaki had come to learn and accept that even outside the host club Haruhi had loved to dress in ‘gender neutral’ boy’s clothes if her father hadn’t chosen her outfits for her. It was a part of who his son was, and he loved his son for everything he was. He just worried about how others would treat his son for it. It was one thing for a girl to dress in boy’s clothes. It was cute in a way, but for a boy to dress in girl’s clothes. That was something entirely different, and he had seen some of the flack that Ranka-san had to put up with. He was worried for his son’s safety and for his psyche.

What would he do if his son come home one day in tears because he had been bullied? He didn’t know how he should handle something like that without making his son feel bad about how he liked to be? About who he was? He hoped that he never had to find out. Maybe he should talk to Ranka-san and ask for advice. For now he pushed it aside and smiled. “You excited about today, Kyoji? You woke up your jii-chan, you know. You know how he likes to sleep in.”

Kyoji whined in dismay when his hair was ruffled, pouting more as he tried to flatten it back into place, adjusting the clip he wore to keep his longer bangs out of his face. “Well you promised we’d leave early! C’mon dad! It’s summer and Yoshio and his dad invited us to the resort! Let’s go already!”

A whimsical smile spread over Tamaki’s lips. “Yes, yes. We’ll go in a minute, but first we’re going to eat a good breakfast. You’ll need enough energy to last you until the afternoon. And I’ll be packing you a few snacks as well, so don’t leave your satchel behind.” He moved around the kitchen as he spoke, pulling out the produce, pots and pans he would need to make them all breakfast.

“Aww! But that will take too long!” But even as his son complained he was making his way up to his room to grab his satchel.

Ranka joined them in time for breakfast, Tamaki had packed a few fruits and riceballs for his son to snack on later, knowing he’d need more energy before lunchtime. They packed up their bags into the car and bid Ranka-san farewell for the weekend.

“If there’s anything you need, you have my cell phone number, right?” Tamaki couldn’t help but fuss a little.

“Go on, get out of here already!” Was Ranka’s only response, showing the blonde away. “Have a good time this weekend! And try to get a tan, Tamaki! You look like you could really use it!” The cross dresser kissed his grandson’s forehead lovingly. “Have a good time, Kyoji-chan! Try not to break too many hearts while you’re there!”

The little brunette laughed cheerfully. “I’ll try, jii-chan! Try not to be too lonely without us! And dad left enough money so you can buy takeout every night! Don’t explode the kitchen again, okay?”

The little nerve popped on the cross dresser’s temple, “Why you little brat!”

“Well look at the time! We better run! Bye Ranka-san! We’ll be back Sunday night!” Tamaki said quickly and rushed his son into the car, eager to escape the oncoming wrath. Once they were on the rode he sighed heavily. “Kyoji, we talked about teasing your jii-chan before, didn’t we?”

“What? It’s the truth,” his son shot back without any affliction. No ill will meant, just the truth. Tamaki couldn’t help but smile at that. He was just like his mother that way.

“Right, well just try to be a little more careful in the future alright?” He was answered with a shrug. “I can’t believe you’re this excited about going to the resort. I thought you told me you didn’t like Yoshio-kun.”

Kyoji shrugged. “That was last year. This year he hasn’t been so bad. Besides, weren’t you and his dad the ones pushing us to be friends in the first place? ‘The Ootori family has all sorts of connections in the business world. You and Yoshio-kun should become friends.’ Isn’t that what you told me before?”

Tamaki laughed sheepishly. “I did, didn’t I? I guess I sound like your grandfather when I say things like that. You know when I first came to japan it was Yoshio-kun’s jii-san that urged his father to become my friend. But in the end we really did get along. Kyoya is still my very best friend even after all these years. I guess I just wanted the same for my son.”

Another shrug was his reply. “Yoshio’s not so bad when he’s not busy being too serious about everything.”

Tamaki chuckled softly again. Like father like son? The truth was that he hadn’t seen Kyoya in years, or any of his old friends from his days in high school, in the host club. Not really since… Haruhi passed away. He felt his heart clench painfully, but squashed the feelings down. Not now, he wouldn't think about it now.

When he got the invitation to the Ootori family resort he had almost refused right away. In the end Ranka had convinced him to reconsider, then when that didn’t work right away, forced him to say yes. He had told him that five years was far more than enough time in isolation and that if he didn’t get out of the house soon he would tear it down himself.

He knew that his father-in-law was just worried about it. It had been touching really. And he did miss his friends. This seemed like the perfect time to see them all again. Kyoya had invited everyone from the host club and their families. He was surprised that it had been Kyoya who had organized this whole little get away. It was so unlike him. It made him happy, really. Maybe his best friend missed him more than he let on. He couldn’t wait to see them all. This would be a weekend to remember! He was sure of it! And he knew that Haruhi would be happy to see him out again, too.

To be continued!

Okay a few points for now:
Please don't kill me for the first chapter! I swear I'll explain more in future chapters! I'm sorry that I killed off Haruhi before the story even really started! It's just the way my mind worked it out. I don't hate Haruhi, I'm actually very fond of her! There will be no bashing of Haruhi! And I swear there will be yaoi in this fic! ;o;!

This was just something that hit me upside the head a few hours ago so I wrote it all down before it escaped me X.x;

This fic takes place at least a decade after the timeline in the series (about... 12 years after the end of the anime?), and yes there will be more host club member children in future chapters... all boys. XD! That's just how it came to me. Don't worry if there are any hints of relationships for any of them I'll try not to have the fic center around the kids... unless you guys ask for a chapter with them... O___o; That would be unlikely, though right? XD;

Anyways! Sorry for the shortness and the oddness, like I said this just hit me a few hours ago. It's 3 am, it was about 12: 30am when I started to write it. I'm tired. Blah, blah, blah.

I hope I don't lose inspiration for this story before it reaches some semblance of an ending... that seems to be a curse I have... ;.;

And for those of you wondering, yes this will be a Kyoya/Tamaki fic! X3;;

And like I say in the other fics I've written so far, if you have any ideas of suggestions of what you'd like to see in this fic, feel free to comment on it! I'm always open to suggestions! It doesn't really mean I'll use all suggestions, but I'll try to work in what I can where I can. ^_^
