Hello, I’m your mind giving you someone to talk to
Hello

-EVANESCENCE

Warm sunlight was shining in through a large window, illuminating bright orange hair. He had his head down, resting it on his arms. The classroom was noisy because it was lunchtime and everyone was excited, talking about the school cultural festival that would be coming up in just a few weeks. He yawned because he was just that exhausted. He hadn’t been able to get much sleep last night because some stupid little bunny had to visit and cause some drama. That damn brat was always getting on his damn nerves. Just thinking about what he had to go through pissed him off.

That damn Yankee and that spooky psychic were spoiling Tohru with candy. The girl’s teeth were going to start falling out of her head if she kept eating all that junk. He couldn’t stand candy. It was poison. POISON!

He looked around with crimson eyes, noticing that the damn rat was nowhere to be seen. Where the hell was he? He was always doing something. Oh, he hated him. He fucking hated him.

“Kyo,” Tohru said with a nervous hitch in her voice, pointing at him. “You just broke your desk.”

He looked down. Hmm, how about that? So, he had broken the top off. Well, wasn’t that nice? He noticed several guys scooting their desks further away from him. He tossed it over his head, folding his arms across his chest with an annoyed huff, ignoring the loud crash, and the high pitched shrieks.

“Wow,” Uotani smirked. “What’s crawled up your ass, Carrot-Top?”

“None of your damn business, you stupid Yankee!” He snapped angrily, narrowing his eyes. He hated this place. He hated being surrounded by all these stupid girls and guys who just didn’t get him. He hated them and he envied them. They got to be normal and they all took it for granted. Oh, it pissed him off.

He would just sit here in silence, listening to them complain about how awful their blissfully wondrous lives were. They would complain about how their parents were always on their cases. All he wanted to do was scream and tell them that they should all be fucking happy they had parents who truly cared about them.

“What did you say?” Uo snapped. “Am I going to have to kick your ass?”

“Bring it on, you dumb bitch!” He yelled, getting to his feet. Oh, he was just itching for a fight.

“Kyo?” Tohru asked, looking up at him with her big eyes.

He bit his bottom lip hard enough to bring blood, balled his fists at his side in rage, and stalked from the room. People were jumping and scooting the hell out of his way. All the hair on his body was standing up on end. He slid the door shut with a loud bang and took off running down the hall. He needed to get up high and far away from all these jabbering idiots. He missed the mountains. There was such freedom there.

He hated his life. He fucking hated it. Nobody understood him and nobody really cared about him either. Well, there had been his master, but he soon tired of him, too. Everyone was afraid of him and hated him. Well, there was Kagura, but even she shrank back from his true form. He hated her for that. He hated Tohru, too. Oh, he was sort of nice to her and everything, but she just got on his damn nerves. She was far too cheerful, always going on about how people just needed to be themselves, and everything would be okay. That was such a load of bullshit. That crap may work for her, but it didn’t for him. His true self was a monster. Nothing would ever make it okay. Nobody would ever be comfortable with him around.

He just wanted to run away. He just wanted to run far away and never come back ever again. They would all be better off without him. They were just going to lock him up anyway.

He ran out onto the roof and began to climb up the ladder with feline speed. He hopped up onto the top with graceful ease. The wind was warm and it blew through his bright hair. That was when he noticed someone standing over near the edge, looking down. Was it a jumper?

“HEY!” He yelled, walking quickly forward. “What are you doing over there?”

Hair the color of a pale pink rose blew like long strands of polished silk in the gentle breeze. The person slowly turned around and Kyo saw that it was a guy, a very beautiful guy. He had never seen eyes so green before in all his life or skin so white it made snow look grey. This guy could give that damn rat a run for his money in the pretty department.

“Yes,” the boy said. His voice was airy and masculine. He was talking on his cell phone. “I will try and make friends, father.”

Kyo put his hands on his hips and rolled his eyes. This jerk had really scared him. What the hell was he doing up here in his spot? This was his place, damn it! He was getting even more pissed off.

“I’m sorry,” the boy said, putting his cell phone into his pocket, and smiled warmly at him. “I’m new here and I just had to get away from all those freaky girls that kept screaming about some prince and if I knew him.”

Kyo’s left eye twitched. “That would be the Prince Yuki Fan Club.”

“Oh, yes,” the boy said, running a pale slender hand through his rosy pink strands. His hair shimmered in the warm sunlight. “They were giving me a headache and when I saw my chance, I ran for it.”

“You’re new,” Kyo deadpanned, looking him over again. The boy was pretty, too pretty.

“Yes,” he said, smiling with pearly white teeth. “My name is Kamlyn Hiromi. But, people just call me Kam.”

“Kyo,” he said, looking away from him. “Kyo Sohma.”

“I’m sorry,” Kamlyn said, taking a few steps towards him. “I seem to be invading your personal space.”

Kyo nodded. “Yes, you are.”

Kamlyn walked by him and he smelled of something sweet and alluring. What in the world was it? It almost caused him to pounce on the beautiful teen and sniff him.

“How old are you?” Kyo asked, turning around to look at his back.

“Sixteen.”

“We’re in the same class,” he said.

“Oh,” Kamlyn said, turning back around to face him.

Kyo nodded.

Kamlyn looked up at the sky, giving Kyo a chance to look at his pale throat. It was very provocative. It was graceful and looked to be as smooth as fine porcelain.

“Where are you, you stupid cat?” An angry voice called.

Kyo hissed and then groaned. Why wouldn’t people just leave him alone? Was asking for a few minutes alone too much?

“Who is that?” Kamlyn asked.

“That would be Yuki,” Kyo said, walking over to take a seat. “I’m up here, you stupid rat!”

“Oh,” a honey voice said and it made Kyo sick. There was that fake politeness. He knew it was nothing but venomous poison underneath that paper thin layer of sweetness. “And who are you?”

“I’m the new guy,” Kamlyn said. “And you must be the prince I’ve heard so much about from those crazy girls.”

Kyo snickered as he looked over at Yuki’s pink face. Now that was just funny. Oh, he wished he had a camera. Now this shit was great.

“I apologize for their behavior,” Yuki told him, climbing on up to stand on his feet. “They often get carried away when a new face arrives here.”

“Hey,” Kyo said, waving his hand. “What do you want?”

“Why did you break that desk and break things in the classroom?” Yuki asked him. His voice was very serious as he walked over to loom above him. “And what did you say to frighten Tohru so badly?”

“I didn’t do anything to your girlfriend,” Kyo said, looking down at his feet. The sun was in his eyes. The damn rat had done that on purpose. “I just got into it with that damn Yankee and left because I didn’t want to upset her anymore.”

“Why?” Yuki asked, rubbing his temples. “Why do you have to be like this?”

“LIKE WHAT?” Kyo yelled, jumping to his feet with a roar. “IT’S NOT MY FAULT I’M LIKE THIS! YOU MADE ME LIKE THIS! YOU AND YOUR DAMN TRICKS! YOU DAMN RAT!”

Yuki narrowed his violet eyes. “We have a guest up here with us, Kyo.”

“I’ll just go,” Kamlyn said, turning away. “I’ll see you around, Kyo.”

Kyo stomped his foot and growled angrily as the teen vanished. “I don’t want to talk to you.”

“Well, that’s too bad,” Yuki said, stepping right up to him. “I climbed all the way up here and you’re going to hear it, you stupid cat.”

He wondered if he could be fast enough to catch him off guard, and throw him off the roof. No that would be damn funny. “I didn’t do anything.”

“Why can’t you think about anybody but yourself?” Yuki asked him, poking him on the chest. “You’re so selfish.”

Kyo’s nostrils flared. What the fuck?

“You’re always going on about yourself,” Yuki snapped, pushing him roughly back against the wall. He was bigger than Yuki, but the rat had moves even he couldn’t match. So, he just took it. “You never take anybody else’s feeling into consideration.”

Kyo kept his mouth shut. He knew that if he opened it, he would yell, and swing his fist. Hmm, he had learned some control. Shigure would be so pleased with him.

“I don’t care if it kills you,” Yuki said, pinning him to the wall. “From now on, you will be nice to Tohru and her friends and you will respect school property. Your careless actions reflect on me, Kyo.”

That did it. He swung, missed, and felt a fist connect with his jaw. It caused his head to bounce off the concrete wall with a thud, and he sunk to the floor. He watched Yuki walk away from him with blurry eyes.

“Stupid cat,” Yuki said under his breath, turning around to climb down the ladder. “Oh, and another thing, Tohru is not my girlfriend.”

Kyo just sat there all alone with the uncaring sun shining down on his bruised jaw. He refused to let the tears fall. He would never let them fall. He would never shed another tear over the people who were supposed to be his family.

He was selfish? He took nobody else’s feelings into consideration?

Yes, he was selfish. No, he didn’t take anybody else’s feeling into consideration, because nobody did so for him. He was always being talked down to, called names, ridiculed, beaten, and ignored. No, he had no love for anybody, because nobody had any love for him.

Kagura loved him out of pity. He knew that for certain and he sure as hell didn’t love her. She was a nutcase and it hurt him worse. At least all the others were honest with their feelings towards him.

“Ugly…”

“Useless!”

“Cursed wretch!”

“That is not my child!”

“Hideous!”

“I hate you!”

“Pathetic.”

“You’re a monster. We hate you.”

“Nobody loves you.”

He leaned his head back against the wall and started laughing. His bottom lip trembled and the tears streamed from his eyes. The voices would never leave him alone. They were always beating him down, cutting, and stabbing at him with their razor sharp words.

He slowly slid over onto his side, and curled up into a tight ball, squeezing his eyes tightly shut, pressing his palms against his ears, fighting to silence the voices. They were always screaming and shrieking at him like demons.

“Leave me alone,” he silently whispered, trembling in emotional pain. “Please, just leave me alone. I’ll be good. I promise.”

He stayed just like that, and when silence finally fell, he was fast asleep.
