A Midwinter Night's Fantasy Come True
A midwinter night's fantasy
January 17, the night of the full moon and the memory of that night will be forever etching in my mind. Adrenaline pumped throughout my body causing my heart to beat so fast, I thought my heart would burst from my chest. I was so excited to be here, at the home of my idol, my inspiration, and all I could do was stand with my mouth gaping open, unable to speak. He wanted me to show it to me, and well, how could I refuse? I mean, let's face it, this was THE Sakuma Ryuichi, the man who influenced my life more than any other person. Because of him, I wanted to be a singer, and now, here I stood, acting like a star-crossed fanboy.
"What's wrong? I thought you said you wanted to see it." Deafening silence was not exactly the reaction that Ryuichi expected from his singing rival and good friend. "Shuichi, are you okay? I mean, I know it's big, but it won't hurt you."
Ryuichi took a step forward and lightly placed his hand upon the statue-like shoulder of his young friend. "Isn't it as big as I told you it was?"
The touch of the rock legend's hand was enough to break the younger man from his stupor. Several blinks of his eyes later, Shuichi answered the question. "Um, yeah, it's big. I just didn't really think it was that big."
A frown appeared on Ryuichi's once excerberant face. "I'm sorry if it's not what you expected. It took me a while to get it this big, and now, you seem disappointed."
The pink-haired singer just stared. What could he say?
Soon, the hand on his shoulder moved and took a firm grasp on his smaller hand. "Touch it. I promise it won't bite you."
As his hand was pulled closer, he could feel the smooth exterior, but firmness just beneath the surface. It was soft and hard at the same time. Shuichi gasped at the feel and his violet eyes opened wide. A smile finally crossed his face and he relaxed. After all, it was his friend that was showing him something he was really proud of and who was he to complain. Shuichi looked up and all but gushed, "It's really spectacular, Ryu-chan!"
Ryuichi smiled sweetly to his bestest little human buddy. "Kuma just knew that you would like it too. It was his idea to have me show it to you."
Sparkles appeared in those wide eyes as the full moon shone down on the two men who now stood and gazed at the sight.
"Well, it got bigger than even I expected, but I knew you would like it, Shu-chan." Ryuichi jumped up and down, clapping his hands at his masterpiece, if you could call it that.
"Can I take a picture of it?" It sounded like a weird question, but then again, it was Shuichi asking it.
"Sure, I would be delighted to have you take a picture."
Shuichi took out the camera he had hidden in his hoodie pocket and clicked a picture. "Thanks, Ryu-chan. I really appreciate this. Now I can show this to all my friends. They won't believe it!"
Ryuichi's face lit up like a proverbial Christmas tree. "Well, I know it's hard to believe, but I did it all myself."
Giggles soon filled the air, which was now getting quite brisk. "I think we should go inside, Ryu-chan. It's freezing and I don't want us to catch colds. Seguchi-san wouldn't be very happy if we both got sick and couldn't sing."
"I can't wait for you to see what it's like in the morning. Let's go in, We can get some hot cocoa and then go to bed."
The pair walked through the sliding patio doors into Ryuichi's spacious home. As the moonlight shone through clear glass, the pair turned and looked out, both admiring what they saw. It was even more magnificent to see from inside. As they turned to go get their hot cocoa, Ryuichi said, "It's supposed to snow again, and that will only make it bigger."
Shuichi nodded, yes, he imagined in would. And as he took one final peek outside, he again marveled at the sight. After all, it wasn't everyday that he got to come to this house and see an eight-foot high snowman made by Sakuma Ryuichi.
