Author's Note: For those that don't know, Thanatos was the daemon of (Death) and his twin was Hypnos (Sleep). Also, I've only read up to volume 3 in the manga, so please keep that it mind. And yes, I know that later in the story there's boy x boy biting scene, but since I haven't got that far, I pretty much did my own version of Zero drinking from Kaname for the first time.

"And there the children of dark Night have their dwellings, Sleep and Death, awful gods. The glowing Sun never looks upon them with his beams, neither as he goes up into heaven, nor as he comes down from heaven. And the former of them roams peacefully over the earth and the sea's broad back and is kindly to men; but the other has a heart of iron, and his spirit within him is pitiless as bronze: whomsoever of men he has once seized he holds fast: and he is hateful even to the deathless gods." ~Hesiod, Theogony
The world felt bleak as he struggled to breathe; his chest constricting painfully as blood poured from his wounds. Feeling his legs give out, Zero barely had time to catch his balance before staggering into the alley; his back collapsing against the wall as he slid to the wet ground. He couldn't take it anymore, it just hurt too much. The damage done by the Level E was taking its toll. One blow to the shoulder, and another deep, wound to his opposing side'he had lost a lot of blood, more then he could spare, and now he was facing the repercussions. The beast inside of him was slowly making itself known; feeding off his weakened state of mind as the smell of blood accompanied the notion into further depths. In another ten minutes or so, he was likely to lose control; to take someone's life and have more heartache befall him.
Not able to cope, Zero let his legs fall open; his head bowing down as he vomited between them. He hated blood. He hated the way that it looked, the manner in which it smelled. Worse of all though, he hated what it did to him, how it deprived him of his humanity and tainted his soul with a sense of temptation that he could not refuse. Feeling a second wave knot in his stomach, he again buckled over and spilled more regurgitation onto the street. The smell wretched as it reached his nose, provoking several waves of dry heaves before he finally got a hold of himself. This world was horrible. It was cruel and unfair. He'd never wanted this, but it was a fate that he was forced to endure. Letting his violet eyes gaze upward, he tipped his head back and blinked slowly, watching the stars sparkle in the sky. If only he could be more like them; those precious specks of light that were unrestricted by worldly matter. Maybe then he could be free, so far away from this world and its pain that the bitterness wouldn't matter; that his loneliness would be obsolete.
Zero gave a cynical chuckle to those thoughts, but instantly regretted it; a wave of pain coursing through his body as his muscles twitched violently. Instinctively, he placed a hand to his side; blood squishing between his fingers as the palm rested against the wound in vain. The situation was bad. He was growing weaker by the moment, and things weren't going to get any better. After all, no one was coming to save him. Yuki was in bed sick --his whole purpose for going into town so late had been to retrieve medicine for her-- and the headmaster was probably too busy with work to even realize his absence. He had to do something though. Sitting around would accomplish nothing.
Regaining his composure to the best of his ability --and using his good arm-- Zero patted his coat pocket, looking for the small, familiar box that held the blood tablets he had yet to successfully take. Despite the fact that he had failed to ingest them numerous time, he knew that he couldn't let that discourage him now. Perhaps this was the one time that he could stomach them. Then again, maybe that was just wishful thinking.
In retrospective, he had never been an optimistic person; fate was cruel, life was brittle and between the two it was hard to keep on believing in something when you were slowly rotting away from the inside out. but on this matter, he knew he had to try. It would be stupid not to do otherwise. Because at the rate he was going, it was only a matter of time before his other side took over, and when that transpired, Zero knew he was likely to do something regrettable---something that his wretched soul could never atone for; a pain driven deeply against a smothering mien that Yuki would have to endure alone.
Consequentially, Zero could not forgive himself if that transpired. Yuki may have been pushy ---even scary at times--- but she was dear to him. She was the only family that he had left in this world even if they weren't biologically related, and in that sense, he loved her dearly, wanted to keep her safe from all the things that he had not been able to escape. Yes. He would protect her. No matter what it took, he would persevere for her sake.
With rising resolve, nimble fingers slipped between the slits of his jacket; locating, and then pulling the box out of it. For a moment, Zero just looked at the aforementioned item --the tool to his salvation if only his body would condone it-- before popping the lid back and knocking a few pills into his hand. Technically, they were supposed to be taken with water. But since he didn't have any, Zero merely brought the small item to his lips, placing them in his mouth before trying to swallow.
Instantaneously, he regretted it. A bitter metallic flavoring washed over him, and he felt ill. Inside his mouth was on fire, his body trembling as his stomach clenched painfully; his entire being demanding that he spit the foul substance out with haste.
Still, Zero refused to give in, his muscles working hard to swallow the pills. The taste was worse then anything that he could imagine ---acid and grim filling his mouth as his body grew numb; heartbeat erratic--- but he tried again and again; kept trying until the inside of his mouth was raw, until his throat felt swollen and stripped; until his resolve was all but depleted.
Finally admitting that he couldn't keep the tablets down, Zero spit them from his mouth, a mixture of blood and saliva dripping down his chin as he coughed violently. He just couldn't do it. His body refused to take the substitution and his will wasn't strong enough to keep fighting. The beast inside him was just too powerful. The desire for blood was working through his body, calling out the true nature of what he was destined to become and he couldn't stop it.
It just wasn't fair.
"Well now, don't you look horrible?"
At the indication of the new voice, Zero felt his bad luck shift from worse to catastrophic. He didn't need to see who was standing there against the shadows, because he already knew who it was by the tone. Still, the youth couldn't help but wonder what the bastard was doing there. Maybe the vampire had finally come to finish him off. He was, after all, standing in the way of a certain Pureblood's plans.
"Kaname..." the wounded teen rasped, his throat cracked and dry as it hurt to form each word. It was no secret, at least to Zero, that he was an inconvenience to the aforementioned figure. "Come to kick me when I'm already down. It figures that you're true nature would eventually show." he spat, his eyes looking up to spy his foe.
The Pureblood however, just arched a brow delicately. His feet carrying him closer before he leaned down and squatted on his haunches; nose upturned at the vile smell of vomit. "Really Zero, you should thank me for coming out all this way to help you. I wouldn't do that for just anyone."
Zero frowned at the solicitous words; knowing that there was only mockery laced between them. He and Kaname had never gotten along. Not just because of Yuki, or the fact that Kaname was a Pureblood. Rather, there was something else that caused the bad friction. Maybe it was the attitude, or the ostensible image that the other expelled so flawlessly ---Zero was sure Kaname was rotten; corrupted all the way down to the core. But whatever it was, the last thing he wanted was help from a vampire, especially one that he personally had reason to despise.
Clearing his throat, the injured teen tried to steady his voice. "No thanks," he retorted, only to feel a flair of pain surge through his chest; his visage contorting as he buckled over, coughing severely.
So much for making a good statement; Kaname definitely wasn't going to leave now.
As if to confirm his speculations, Zero felt a pale hand brush against his face; lifting his chin up delicately so that lavender eyes could meet a soft red. "You've lost a lot of blood, stop being so stubborn. We both know that you don't take proper care of yourself. Lying half-dead in an alley, bleeding profusely and in desperate need of blood; do you really think that Yuki has the strength to crawl out of bed with her fever, and come all the way out here to sate your pride? Or perhaps you want to attack some innocent bystander--to feel what it's like to tear someone apart?"
Zero could feel the personal sting behind those words, and he forced his lips to draw back a snide remark. "Shut-up you damn Vampire!"
Despite the fact that he could barely move, Zero slapped the other's hand away, not wanting any part of Kaname to touch him. He wasn't stupid. He knew what would happen if he didn't get any blood, just like he understood that Yuki couldn't help him right now. She was at home, sick with the flu, and although he might have been many things ---cold, distant, heartless and broken--- he would not stoop so low as to drink the blood of a girl who couldn't even muster enough strength to get out of bed.
In that sense, Zero did realize that he needed Kaname's help. But he would never admit it, not out loud and certainly not because of his pride. Rather, Zero liked to give himself some creditability to the situation. Out of all the vampires at Cross Academy, Kaname hadn't sent one of his underdogs, but instead came there personally. Granted that most of the nobles despised Zero, but a Pureblood's word was the law. If Kaname had sent Aido or Kain with the order that he not be harmed, then that word would have been executed perfectly.
However, that hadn't happened. Instead, Kaname was the one standing there offering to help him. And although the proposition might have seemed like a kind gesture, Zero couldn't help but feel the bad undertones lingering against the situation. "I don't need your help," he repeated, his good hand bracing the ground as he tried to push himself up. Struggling, Zero used every bit of his strength as he drew to his feet; body aching in pain as more blood fell to the ground and his mind flashed with hints of suppressed desire. Like a snake that was slowly squeezing its prey, Zero could feel himself slip away a little more. Still, he would not let the notion hinder him. "See. I'm fine," he insisted, staggering a few steps before bracing himself against the wall to catch his breath.
"Your admirable, I'll give you that much. However, how far do you think you'll make it?" Kaname amended, bring reality into check. Zero gave a dry, mirthless chuckle, but made his feet move forward; the soles of his shoes scrapping against the damp pavement as he spoke.
"I'll make it all the way. You'll see." It wasn't some half-assed idea; it was what he was going to do. Nothing was going to change that. As long as his body allowed it, he would keep moving.
"And then what? Yuki can't help you in her current state."
"No, but the chairman can lock me up. I might need blood, but I won't risk hurting someone because I have no self control."
There was a deeper meaning stratified to that statement, but Kaname chose to ignore it. "Well, that's assuming you can even make it that far without transforming."
Feeling a jolt of anger work through him, Zero stopped and turned around; his boots scrapping the gravel as he pivoted sharply. In his haste, he miscalculated the ratio of his equilibrium in regards to the stability of his legs, and the world swayed dangerously before he fell towards the ground. Expecting to hit something hard, Zero was surprised when a pair of strong arms caught him; his body falling flush against Kaname's warm chest where he could feel the steady rise of air that circulated freely through the others lungs. In his own moment of weakness, he wanted to push away and curse Kaname. But Zero knew that it was futile. He couldn't even stand on his own. And now that Kaname was so close, the temptation of blood was unimaginably thick, making his body course with a desire that he didn't really want to heed.
Zero shuttered as he inhaled the deep aroma of lavender, mint and blood; his lips trying to form words that would curve his rising need. "Let...let me go. I don't want to be near you," he managed to rasp. But when Zero felt Kaname pull him closer, speaking words softly, he knew that he could fight no longer.
"You don't need to be afraid Zero. I won't tell Yuki."
With that simple statement Zero felt his sanity slip, his determination wavering as his head rested on Kaname's shoulder. He was weak and despicable, but his body could give no more and Kaname was willing to share the life giving substance that he needed to survive.
"P-promise?" he beseeched hoarsely, his fangs protruding out as the aroma of Kaname's blood rose from beneath the vampire's skin, sending tantalizing waves of pleasure throughout his hazy mind. The other's blood smelt so sweet; so heavenly. And as the mixture of need and disgust conflicted inside of Zero's fractured mind, he found that he was giving into all his demons at an alarming rate. "K-Kaname, you promise right?"
With a swift nod of approval, Kaname gave his consent to secrecy; smoothly working away the buttons on his Mandarin style shirt.
Beneath the layer of thin silk lingered an expanse of finely crafted skin; the pigment akin to marble as it was the epitome of perfection; pure and unmarred. For a moment Zero could only admire the flesh; his eyes captivated by the sight before he licked his lips and leaned in hungrily.
"You really are a beast, aren't you?" the elder digressed, his voice dwindling off as Zero sank a pair of sharp teeth into his neck, drawing out a flood of conflicting emotions that Kaname quickly had to find a balance for. Arousal, need, pain and ultimate pleasure; the sensations buzzing around the elder's head were summoning a sense of asphyxiation that had nothing to do with dying. Rather, they were pulled by a rich, deep feeling that sank into Kaname soul. One, that so far, only Zero had been able to provoke.
Feasting far past the compensation of his blood loss, Zero continued to suck vigorously on the Pureblood's neck --lost in his own world where reality held no bearing. The taste of bitter-sweetness, matched with the volume in which it was being consumed was detrimental---each drop of blood a pulsing aphrodisiac, hitting Zero's palate like a match to its box, igniting all the things that he'd desperately been trying to suppress, only to draw him further into insanity. Without even realizing it, the ex-human had knocked Kaname back against the ground, his body straddling the other as fingers weaved through soft locks; mouth still latched onto the vampires pale neck as he sucked diligently, rocking his hips down as he was overcome by pleasure and a rising sense of satisfaction.
To Zero, he only wanted more ---needed more--- but there was a limit on how much Kaname was willing to give and the Pureblood was reaching that point. Zero was drinking too much.
"Stop!"
The word was a warning, but to Zero it was like a distant voice in the back of his mind; the note swathed in a thick sheet of fog that he just couldn't hear clearly. Again and again the voice called at his consciousness, but it wasn't until Zero felt his own skin break under the weight of sharp teeth, that his red eyes dissipated into a soft lilac color and the reality of the situation was his to take in.
Kaname was biting him. The noble had now managed to pin him against the wall and was drinking his blood greedily.
"Shit, Kaname! s-stop!" He choked, but the tone was more surprised then commanding. His body was on fire, his hands tearing into the soft silk of the other's shirt, drawing lines that would mar the perfect flesh beneath. From the depths of his mind, Zero couldn't help but feel a mixture of disgust and arousal churn inside him. His unforgivable acts pulling unforgivable wants as he found himself helpless to avoid the raw sentiment of what they stood. It was wrong. It was horribly wrong. But at the same time it felt so goddamn good to have Kaname feasting from his neck, to be in a place that he didn't want to be, but clearly belonged.
Consumed by endless waves of pleasure, Zero withered in the other's arms. His lips finally crushing against Kaname's when the vampire pulled back; lustfully drinking from something that he had no right to own. As if to prove the last sentiment by means of reality, the youth suddenly felt his body slam against the alley wall, Kaname's dark eyes glaring hatefully into his.
For a minute, Zero was sure that Noble was going to kill him. But that feeling quickly fled when other's deep voice stroked the air; chasing away all uncertainty.
"You can't tell Yuki either."
As if those words were a secret that parted all logic from reality, Kaname's mouth crushed against Zero's again and the ex-human parted his threshold willingly, letting the Pureblood seep into his mouth. Together their tongues clashed relentlessly; the taste of blood mingling with a sweetness that Zero was surprised Kaname would have. It was an addicting flavor, and as they sucked the air from one another's lungs, the youth found that he just couldn't get enough of the sensations the vampire was offering. Pleasure, insanity, hope and need; each form of desperation pulled at him until his hands greedily began disrobing the pale deity that was in front of him.
"Kaname, more," he moaned wantonly as their lips finally parted. Through his half-lidded eyes he watched the elder smirk; those lips drawing a sense of perfection that not even god could match. "Please!"
Hastily, fingers fumbled with anticipation as their clothes were thrown to the dirty, wet ground. In a matter of seconds the two of them were both naked, sitting there in the alley, panting and drenched with a lust that seemed far too carnal for the relationship they normally shared.
"You really are a desperate creature," Kaname taunted wickedly, his left hand sliding down Zero's pale thigh before drifting behind the knee and squeezing the flesh, dragging the boy closer to him.
At the initiation of movement, Zero gritted his teeth, the gravel digging into his already sore back as the sharp rocks tore at his skin. Nevertheless, he didn't cry out loud. His eyes unwilling to waver from the heartless ones that had already devoured his soul and dragged him into a blissful level of Hell. Would he ever be free now? Zero doubted it. But what use was there in trying to fly when your wings were tattered to begin with. "Hypocrite, you want it just as badly." he spat back, not liking the criticism that he was receiving.
The Pureblood looked annoyed for a second before his visage slipped into something akin to amusement. Granted that he had always hated Zero, but deep inside of him were feelings that rose against that nomination. The boy was beautiful even if his arrogance did precede him. However, it was exactly that clash which made Zero's defiance so much more intriguing. "Be silent and know your place," he quipped, his body moving forward, the tip of his cock pressing against the other's tight hole.
Zero swallowed heavily with need as Kaname leaned into him, and yet his features betrayed that sentiment with the reflection of hate. "Oh, and where would that be?" he challenged back, trying to convince himself that he didn't already know; that he still had some sense of pride for going this far and not beating the shit out of the Pureblood for touching him.. Of course, Kaname was quick to slap that idea out of his head; secretly confirming what Zero was trying to ignore.
"Your place, isn't it obvious? Writhing in pleasure as you reside below me, moaning my name like the bitch that you are."
The ex-human's eyes narrowed darkly and he opened his mouth to protest. However, the only sound that escaped was a haggled moan of pain when Kaname pushed inside of him; tearing the ring of muscle and yet filling him with something that he desperately longed for. "Fuck! Kaname, you bastard," he seethed, the air leaving his lungs as he forced back the tears that threatened to fall from his panic-ridden eyes.
Clawing into Kaname's arms, Zero tore the perfect skin. His body lost in pain until the elder's hips arched back, withdrawing from his violated form before slamming back in, hitting his prostate head on. Suddenly all that pain was washed away with something that mimicked pleasure, and he arched back, shuttering under the onslaught of the other's ministrations. "Ah.Kaname!"
This time when Zero said the name, there was nothing but satisfaction and gratitude forged in each syllable. The plea stratified by a silent sense of submission that begged for more, because what he was being offered just wasn't enough.
"You like that?" Kaname mocked, his hips thrusting savagely as his cock was stroked by the inner walls of Zero's body. By now the motion had become exceptionally fluent; the thick traces of blood serving to be a makeshift lubricant as they melted into each other lustfully. Still, for Zero, the connection lacked something. He wanted more. Needed more. And as the minutes rolled on, that desire became stronger.
"Harder, Kaname, fuck me harder," he demanded, his hips pushing down to meet every thrust, sucking in the Pureblood until the elder was balls deep inside him. It was wrong to want more. But Zero no longer cared. No. Because all that mattered was the pleasure;a feeling that ran so deep inside of him that it overthrew everything else he had ever known.
In retrospective, most of Zero's life had been drenched in pain. He had lost his family at a young age; had damned his own soul to loneliness and fruitlessly tried to be happy, even when he knew that nothing would change. Moreover, he had lied to himself via that process. He had spent countless years trying to live in the very world that he was slowly slipping away from while pretending that everything would be alright. And yet, it had never been right. Not until now. Because here it was different. Here in the darkness of night where Kaname was buried deep inside of him, he didn't have to pretend anything. He could just be himself. His pain finally drowned out by a true sense of pleasure, even if the source of that delight was horrifyingly damaging. Kaname towering over him, dominating him; giving him something that Zero never believed he would be allowed to have. It didn't make any sense, but that's why he embraced it. Because in this moment there was no pain, and that defiled the logic of what Zero had known for so long.
"Nghn..." he gasped, working to move with each thrust; parted eyes looking up to bright red as they sparkled with a hint of something that seemed too far away to grasp. In that moment Kaname looked different then he ever had before, and when he spoke the elder's name it was hinted with both lust and surprise. "K-Kaname..."
"Zero," the Pureblood grunted back, the word cockily drawn. Despite the fact that tone was fueled vaingloriously, the other couldn't help the shiver that coursed through his body. Just the sound of his name nearly pushed him over the edge and his loins clenched with anticipation as toes curled sharply, arched in perfect grace. Desperately Zero tried to gather his sanity, but he lost all sense of reasoning when Kaname leaned down ---the vampire practically breaking him in half--- as chilled lips ghosted against his neck.
"Hurry up and show me how much you enjoy me fucking you," The words were low and husky and as the ended, Zero felt a sharp pressure pierce the junction of his neck, Kaname's lips sucking against his skin as the smell of blood graced the air.
"K-Kaname, oh fuck! Ah, I'm cumming," Zero rasped, his body convulsing with jolts of pleasure as electric waves frayed every nerve. Between their bodies the hot essence of semen spilled and the height of Zero's orgasm doubled when he felt a warm gush fill his insides; Kaname's seed stuffing his ass as the muscles clamped down. "Fuck, oh god!"
"I am your god, aren't I?"
Zero didn't respond to Kaname's words, but instead let his pale eyes gaze up at the fading stars above him; his orgasm leaving him completely spent.
In what dissipated all too quickly, Zero found that the happiness was turning into something akin to decay. The pleasure was gone. The rush had escaped him. And now all that was left was his broken, tattered form and the consequences of his action.
He'd just let Kaname...
He just allowed the Pureblood to...
Zero grimaced. He couldn't even mentally finish his sentence. God what was wrong with him? What the hell had he just done?
"You regret it?"
The sound of the other's voice drew his tattered mind back to awareness, and Zero looked up to see Kaname's perfect visage staring down at him. Flawless skin that was tinged with just a hint of sweat, long silky hair flowing over soft shoulders and lips that were smooth; all reflected upon him like something devout. If he hadn't known what Kaname was, he might have mistaken the demon for an angel.
"If I did, would it change anything?"
"No." Kaname replied.
Zero opened his mouth to protest, but no words came out. He couldn't argue with Kaname because the vampire was right. Instead, he pushed the other off him, the Pureblood easing back with no resistance as cum slipped from Zero's ass, purged from the movement.
"You should go," Zero finally managed to say, not looking at the vampire, but burying his face into his hands. He wasn't sure that he could deal with this now, and having Kaname there wasn't making things any easier. "Please... I'd rather be alone."
Kaname watched the ex-human with a blank expression. He had expected as much, but he wasn't worried. In the end Zero would come crawling back to him; desperate for life even as he longed for death.
Standing up, Kaname gathered his clothes and slipped them back on. For a moment he stood there, the light of morning slowly catching the sky above, drawing back the darkness while decorating the atmosphere with threads of a new day. It was a sign that he needed to go. Albeit, he glanced back to the boy that was sitting against the alley wall; Zero's head tipped down.
"Zero," he started, and he watched the other flinch. "Yuki can't save you anymore. You realize that now don't you? Just like deep down inside, you know that from this point forward you belong to me."
At those words Zero's head shot up and he curled his lips back, ready to tell the other to fuck off and go to hell. His attack however, was hindered when his vision settled upon the area before him, the harsh reality that he was alone sinking in. Kaname had left, just as he'd been asked him to. And the only evidence that the vampire had ever been there dwelled in the remnants of cum that were slowly seeping out of his sore ass and onto the ground.
"Shit," Zero sighed and rubbed his arms, a light wind brushing over his naked skin. The sun would be up within the hour and he needed to get back to the Academy and clean up. Not only was he covered in cum, but some of his wounds were still bleeding and needed tending too. Drinking Kaname's blood might have helped the healing process, but it had only worked so far.
Pulling himself up, the youth stumbled to his feet before shuffling over and grabbing his clothes. After slipping his pants on and finding his shoes---his socks were no were to be seen and his shirt and jacket where practically torn to shreds, no thanks to Kaname mauling him. He gave one last look around to make sure he wasn't leaving anything behind.
Not noticing anything odd, he moved to turn, but halfway through the motion something caught his eye and he ventured towards the sliver lining that was almost lost in the darkness.
It only took a moment to realize that it was his pill box; nestled against the ground where Kaname had first appeared. Zero frowned slightly and reached down to grab it; his pale fingers hovering above the sleek surface before slowly drawing back.
With a heavy sigh, the youth stood back up and turned around, his shoes scraping against the cement as he headed back towards the Academy.
He didn't need something that could no longer save him, even if he didn't really want the only thing that could.
