You have fangs? Me too. Let's be friends.

Even on a day to be considered "normal" in the Facility, there was something about Kadaj that Mello simply found disconcerting.

Then again, the fact Mello himself had FANGS wasn't normal, so he might as well visit, right?

Kadaj's room was substantially farther away from Mello's room than anywhere he'd travelled previously for the sheer sake of visitation. Each room he passed made him edgy, tense; despite the fact he'd already fed off of someone, the smells prodding at his senses had him very alert. His mouth wasn't closed all the way, so sharp fangs were very visible. His eyes were even sharper, peering out from beneath the hood of his jacket.

When Mello finally got to Kadaj's door, he rapped his knuckles against it harshly, eyes darting around the suite.

"Kadaj, it's Mello. Open the door."
The sound of movement at his door made The Remnant twitch. He managed to get to his feet and slide the closet door open before he was stricken by the burning desire to eat something, anything. Kadaj took a deep, shaking breath before he unlocked the door and let if fall open, looking at the hooded man on the other side of the door.

The silver-haired teenager still wasn't sure what he thought about Mello. He was someone who he hadn't really had time to wrap his mind around yet, but right now... something with a living, beating heart was a sight for sore eyes. There was a problem though. Mello just didn't smell as good as the others, though there was a lingering scent of food about him.

"Can you help me... get to Lord Sesshomaru? I don't want to hurt anyone on my way." He said, voice hoarse from disuse.
There was definitely something about Kadaj that was very off. Mello watched him carefully, closing his mouth.

"What room is he in?"

Despite his desires to be friendly with shades of grey like Kadaj, there was nothing that Mello could do for him, and quite frankly, he had other matters to attend to. Better to get him to someone who could tend to him.
"8 B..." The remnant muttered. Clenching his teeth together in order to keep from wanting to take a bite out of the blonde who had come to check on him.

"I hate to ask favors, but you're probably strong enough to stop me from attacking someone who might be in the halls." Kadaj frowned, and found himself drifting involuntarily towards the other. He didn't smell as delectable as the others but...

Kadaj was so hungry, he would have eaten anything at that point. It was sheer willpower keeping him from lunging.
"Alright. Come on."

Mello took note of Kadaj's advance, but didn't move away. He lowered his hood, eyeing his companion thoughtfully.

"I doubt biting me will help you much, if at all...still, it'd answer a few questions. Besides, it would likely keep you satiated long enough to avoid the others in the Facility."

He looked away, then met Kadaj's eyes again.

"Go ahead."
Kadaj's resolve was beginning to give way as he met the scarred man's eyes. It was hard to deny oneself when you had permission. He frowned, a blatantly pained expression crossing his features, and hated himself for how much he wanted it.

"You...want me to...?" The remnant took a deep breath as he got closer and in a semblance of gentleness put a hand on Mello's shoulder. Even the lingering scent of someone else's blood on the blonde's breath and skin was near unbearable. He didn't want to but he needed to try to satiate this hunger. He looked up at Mello innocently.

"Um... where should I...?"

"When you close in, instinct does the rest."

Mello was tense at Kadaj's touch, but he craned his neck slightly to allow him easier access.

"Don't be surprised if my blood doesn't help," he warned quietly, his tone low. "If vampires could live off of one another, I highly doubt they'd be so feared."

Kadaj only nodded in response, trying not to feel as awkward as the situation really was. His eyes honed in on the vein that lay beneath the pale flesh and something almost feral took over. The Remnant knew that he couldn't stop himself now, and his hand slipped down to Mello's upper arm, as though to stop him from pulling away should it happen. A predator's instinct was all it took to close the distance between them.

He hesitated for a split moment, lips hovering a hair's breadth away from the flesh as the silver-haired teenager's mind caught up with him, and then he parted his lips and sank his fangs into the flesh exposed to him so willingly. The first thing he noticed was the taste. It wasn't like he knew blood tasted like, it was some how sweet and even...pleasant.

Mello hissed, closing his eyes and focusing on keeping his limbs still, though he ached to pull away. His heart was beating faster, something that made him choke quietly in pain.

He remained still, opening one eye partially to watch the hallways.

"Kadaj," he breathed, though he didn't expect a response just yet. Through the pain, there was pleasure, too, and Mello sighed.

A soft sound escaped Kadaj's throat as he drew a little more from the wound, noticing that Mello's heartbeat didn't feel...quite right. It was off somehow that he couldn't explain. When the blonde sighed, the sound of his name floating to his ears, The remnant pulled away.

He took half a step back, hand still clenching the other's arm as aqua eyes searched the scarred man's face. Kadaj was sure that something like this...it shouldn't have felt so good. Blood-tinged lips formed a frown. It hadn't quenched the burning at all, despite the pleasure he had derived from it.

Mello blinked rapidly, watching Kadaj with mild expectations.

"Nothing?"

His own hungers were starting to return, and he held that feeling in. He had a strong urge to take his blood back from Kadaj, but there'd be no point in it.

"Did it... hurt?" Kadaj flushed unexpectedly, sure that it couldn't have felt as nice for the victim as it had for him. He bit his lip out of nervous habit, unwittingly drawing blood.

"You taste...really... really good but... The hunger hasn't gone away at all." The remnant continued to frown, his brow knitted. He had really hoped that this would be a decent solution. It didn't change that the act had been surprisingly pleasurable. Kadaj couldn't pull his eyes away from the still unhealed puncture wounds that he had put on the other's porcelain flesh.

"A little." Mello noted the nervous behavior and fought back an urge to lick the blood from Kadaj's lips. The thought made him shudder a bit.

"Vampires probably lack something in their blood that non-vampires don't. That'd be why we feed off of them and not one another."

"...Sorry." He apologized, looking away. The feeling of desperation had returned, and Kadaj had entertained the thought of latching onto Mello again just to have that momentary feeling of bliss back. He resisted however, and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand when he felt a drop of blood roll down his lip.

This was going to be a very strange week. "That makes sense... if that were the case then they wouldn't really be vampires." Kadaj's frown became an uncertain pout, acutely aware of the off-rhythm sound of Mello's heartbeat.

"Don't worry about it. It answered our question. Do you want to get to Sesshomaru now, or not?"

The small turn of Kadaj's lips registered in Mello's mind, and he locked their gazes again.

"What?"
"Don't worry about it. It answered our question. Do you want to get to Sesshomaru now, or not?"

The small turn of Kadaj's lips registered in Mello's mind, and he locked their gazes again.

"What?"
"Um...yes. That would be..." Kadaj froze, a little startled by the other's sharp question. Aqua eyes widened a bit, the pout on his lips intensifying.

"It's just... your heart. It felt weird... I can hear it now too, and it's like... it's off rhythm or something." The Remnant shifted, edging a little closer to the door frame. He was eager to move on from this and find some way to stop thinking about it. That was his only hope: to find a good enough distraction to keep him from realizing that he had actually bitten Mello, and would probably need to feed again soon, since the blonde's blood had done nothing for him.

"Yeah, I know."

Mello looked away again, focusing on his own irregular heartbeat and wondering how obvious to Kadaj it had been. Well, at least he knew it wasn't just his imagination now...

Scowling, Mello grabbed Kadaj's wrist and attempted to lead him into the hallway.

"You really do need a babysitter."

"A babysitter?!" Kadaj made an irritated sound as he let Mello lead him from his room. It was better to let the blonde be in control so that he could focus on where he was walking and not the smells that were coming from all around him. This was definitely not going to be easy. If nothing else, The remnant had finally resigned himself to the fact that he was going to have to feed whether he liked it or not.

"Um...Mello. Thank you..." He mumbled, his free hand clamped over his mouth and nose to try and keep the smell of human from sending him into a frenzy.

Mello's lips twitched at the defiant remark, but stayed silent. He'd memorized the halls on his first night, and was now grateful for it. Something about Kadaj was very unnerving, and he wasn't sure if the silver-haired one seemed much older or much younger than he should.

"Don't worry about it."

"I really am sorry." Kadaj sighed, surprised that he wasn't stumbling as he tried to keep up, the feeling of Mello's thin fingers locked around his wrist keeping him anchored to reality.

"I'm usually too proud to ask people for help." In the end, Kadaj had known that Mello wouldn't judge him. He was probably the only person he'd met in this place so far who didn'. He'd warranted the name "nut job" as a pet name, and it was a reassuring feeling to have a friend who didn't ask questions or throw out accusations.

Mello stopped short and glanced at Kadaj, his eyes serious.

"I keep telling you not to worry about it. What exactly is on your mind?"

Like so many others here, there was far more to Kadaj than what met the eye, and Mello found himself developing an interest in this case in particular.

Kadaj really did stumble this time when Mello stopped abruptly, and bumped into him. He blinked up at the other in confusion laced with curiosity.

"On my...mind? It's nothing really... Just... I never knew any better than to just say what's on my mind until I arrived here. I'm only just learning these games of social interaction. Forgive me...if I said something odd." He looked down, not really sure what he was thinking. It wasn't a lie. The remnant bit his lip again and hissed this time as sharp tooth cut into flesh. He was going to have to remember that that was a bad idea, but old habits die hard.

"Stop biting yourself," Mello muttered warningly. "You smell different than the non-vampires, but that doesn't mean I'd be unwilling to go for your blood."

That wouldn't be awkward at all.

"You have to stand up for yourself more, Kadaj. You're very submissive. It'll get you pushed around a lot in this place."

"Sorry!" Kadaj squeaked, wiping his mouth again. Then Mello surely knew what it felt like... It made him blush unwillingly, and he hated himself for another show of weakness.

"I... people keep saying that and I'm doing my best. I've not got very much experience with the world and with people. But...I am learning I think." He passed a gloved hand through his silver hair, worry etched on his features. Mello was right, and wasn't the first person to tell him so.

Kadaj hated the part of him that wanted nothing more than to be submissive to the people who he liked. It had always been what he did, carried out mother's wishes, carried out Sephiroth's legacy. Learning to do what Kadaj wanted to do had been a challenge in and of itself.

Mello turned his back on Kadaj abruptly, moving down the hall and expecting the other to follow him.

He was conflicted for far too many reasons, most of them involving parallels he was making between Kadaj and those he'd grown to know too well.

If Kadaj wanted to follow him, he could. Mello wouldn't drag him; it'd just go against what he was trying to teach the hopeless kid, anyway.

Kadaj stood frozen and blinked for a few moments, surprised at The other's sudden movement. He was walking away, boots sounding against the floor. His confused pout morphed into a scowl as the Remnant moved to follow him, if for no other reason than out of an indignant sense of...something.

He stopped though, as he reached the door of the suite he was trying to get to. Mello had made him almost entirely forget his hunger but with this smell, it was back.

"Mello..." He said, pursing his lips. "Thanks again." He knew that the blonde said he didn't need to say it, but something told Kadaj that maybe...he needed to hear it.

"I said it's nothing," Mello muttered, not stopping. His lips turned into a smirk.

Mello continued down the hallway, running a tongue over his fangs and exhaling softly.

Kadaj was definitely one of the Doctor's more interesting subjects. It'd be worth keeping an eye on him. Besides...Mello'd grown somewhat fond of him.
