Summary - Sanzou hates Spring. Enemies tend to become good friends. Friends become weirder than normal and he’s the ONLY sane one in the group! Will no one just leave him the hell alone?
Chapter 1 -
He had kept track of the days, it wasn’t hard since each newspaper he came across had the current date and year on the right hand corner of each page. They had been on the road for an entire year. Spring was upon them, at least that’s what he had read. The climate hadn’t changed all that drastically, but the cherry blossoms were amazing in the spring and it was this and their scent that woke him each morning. The other way he knew it was spring, were the odd looks and touches he got from the others in the group.
It would, he knew, start out as light touches. Casual things that were polite but possibly lingered a second too long to those that actually noticed. Gojyo’s fingers would linger to long on his when borrowing his lighter, Hakkai would accidentally bump into him on the street, it was just an accident to make him stumble so that Hakkai could catch him at the elbow and wrist and keep him from falling to a near convenient mud puddle. However, Goku - who didn’t understand the changes his body went through in the Spring - would think it was all a game and push him into the puddle. Which wasn’t so bad for Gojyo and Hakkai. They’d drag him to the Inn, make him change, and while he would be in the bathroom - take even his clean change of robes and make off with them. He’d have to sit in a towel, and if he was lucky, a bathrobe, and play Mahjong till his clothing was cleaned and brought back.
Of course, once he had cottoned on, which admittedly had taken much longer than he even wanted to think about, the fan would usually come out and even Hakkai was given a few whacks for his transgressions. Not that the Vine Demon cared, he seemed to think it all too amusing. Gojyo would curse at him and Goku laughed his ass off each and every time. Sanzou just felt overwhelmed by the entire thing. The fact that they were all - even if Goku was oblivious to it - sex, and with him no less, didn’t encourage any good feelings within him.
So, there they were, one year after they had started this stupid journey and he three demon’s trying to feel him up. He kept his fan at the ready. He’d strike out at the oddest and most random times just to keep them all on their toes. This time, when Hakkai brushed the side of his leg. Sanzou let go. The other laughed and gave him a smile.
“Stop touching me!” he demanded of them all. He got snickers in return from the lot of them. He growled and folded his arms. His shoulders sagged, as if he were trying to hide. He never did like being touched. He could barely take the usual touching from Goku. The more sensual side of things…made him nervous and angry. He’d strike out automatically because he knew he couldn’t handle it. His childhood after Koumyu’s death was his own trial into adult hood. He hated it. He hated every second of it. He remembered each and every time he had cried himself to sleep under some tree in a forest when it was storming. He hated storms for more reasons than just that night his Master had died. He had tried to sleep through most of them, cowering in some hole or other just to get some sort of shelter from the lightning.
He was actually scared of storms. It helped to be in an Inn for most of them. Still. Sometimes it didn’t help and he found himself with covers over his head, wishing for some sort of warm arms to just hold him. Though, he’d never admit it.
“When are we going to get to the next town, Hakkai? I’m starving!” Goku’s announcement didn’t phase any of them. Sanzou was almost glad to hear that the next town was no more than an hour away. He’d pay for four rooms and hopefully he’d be able to sleep tonight. He had lost count as to how many times he had woken up to someone trying to feel him up in many X-rated ways. He had barely gotten Goku to forget about his questions about sex, but he knew that he’d have to explain it one of these days to the little chimp. He was over five hundred years old, after all - and he couldn’t go on ignorant for the rest of his life.
“When we get to the town, Sanzou, you should clean up and get some rest. You look as if you haven’t slept in ages,” Hakkai gave Sanzou a smile.
“No thanks to the lot of you,” he snorted back. It was a good thing that he was planning on that anyway - he wasn’t going to let these idiots get into some odd alpha-demon complex. It really wrecked havoc on his mind that way.
It felt like a long time till they finally got to the Inn and he escaped to his room, locking the door behind him. He’d beaten Gojyo and Goku black and blue for running their fingers through his hair and tickling the back of his neck. He didn’t know that he was even ticklish there and that was one fact that he didn’t want the others to know about. How could he NOT know this himself? It was crazy.
A knock on his door had him cocking his gun; “What is it?”
“Are you going to come down and eat?” Hakkai’s voice came through the wood.
“No, later. Here’s the card, give it back after you’re done,” He slipped the gold card under the crack between door and floor. Hakkai bent down and picked it up.
“Thank you, but you make sure to eat later,” his voice had grown stern and Sanzou sighed.
“I will, are you happy now?”
“No,” and with that he heard Hakkai walk away. Shaking his head Sanzou waited a few moments. He didn’t have the senses that Goku had, he knew he was weaker than the Demon’s he traveled with. But, he wasn’t going to make it easier for them. He wasn’t going to submit to any demon either. It wasn’t going to happen. After a few long moments, he opened the door a crack and peeked out. The hallway was empty. He closed and locked the door again. He wasn’t going to bother.
He found that the attached bathroom was quite nice. It didn’t have a shower, instead, it had a huge bath tub. A nice hot soak would help. He started the water as hot as he could stand. He went through his bag for his toiletries and set them on the floor along with towels and wash cloths. He stripped and stepped in. He hissed but the water felt good. He always likes his baths as hot as he could get them and this was the best. He settled and watched as his skin turned red under the hot water.
Reaching for a cloth and his sandalwood soap, he started to scrub his skin till it tingled. Like everything in life, he washed till it hurt. The pain was nothing. He wasn’t gentle and he couldn’t be gentle. He ducked down into the water and ran his fingers through his hair. He came up sputtering and he shook the water from his face. Laying back in the water, he relaxed for just a moment. Steam permeated the air and he gazed into it. Letting his thoughts drift. Till, finally, he felt drowsy.
Finishing with washing his hair. He climbed out of the bath tub and wrapped a towel around himself as he drained the water. He tracked water into the bedroom. He practically shivered in the coldness, but it felt good. He couldn’t remember the last time he had a good soak like that. He lit up a cigarette as he changed into his clean jeans, leather under shirt and arm sheaths. He shook out his robes and hung them on a peg by the bed. His discarded clothing went into a heap to be cleaned. He decided that they would possibly stay a day or so to rest and get their things together. He needed to sleep. Stretching, he flopped down on the bed. Not bothering to bring the comforter up, he swiftly drifted into sleep.

Kougaiji knew that he was acting odder than usual. His over protectiveness of his group was known and humored. However, his sudden thing for Sanzou, a human no less, was odd, even for himself. He perched on the ledge outside Sanzou’s room. He watched the blond sleep, the moonlight wafted through the room and over the blond in waves. Making his golden blond hair shimmer. The body shivered once or twice, even if it was Spring - Kougaiji knew that Sanzou grew colder than most humans. He slowly opened the window and quietly stepped into the room. Behind him, Lirin popped her head in, but a wave for quiet from her brother made her hold the words that were to spew forth.
Kougaiji was quieter than any cat as he stole up to the sleeping blond. In one swift, but quiet, movement - he had a blanket over the blond and was tucking it around cold shoulders when sleepy purple eyes opened. Sanzou felt as if he were swimming through water as he tried to waken. Someone was in the room, but it was someone he knew.
“Ssshhh,” the voice belonged to the person above him, “Go back to sleep,” a finger traced his brow for a moment before he found himself falling back into sleep against his will as the spell worked over him. Kougaiji gave Sanzou a light kiss on the cheek. The sudden foot steps outside the door, however, had him growling at the interruption and signaling Lirin back to the roof. He stepped out seconds himself, with the window safely closed behind him and back into the shadows.
“We really should check, but be quiet just in case he is sleeping,” Hakkai cautioned. He had the spare key to Sanzou’s room, it jiggled in the lock and the door came lose. Kougaiji watched as the three demons entered the room.
Gojyo and Hakkai’s eyes lit up at the sleeping form of Sanzou, but Hakkai shook his head at Gojyo and the other nodded back. What were they up to? He wondered. Goku, however, was sniffing the air. He made a face as if he had smelt something bad.
“What is it, Goku?” Gojyo asked.
“I smell something that isn’t Inn smells or Sanzou smells,” Goku replied.
“Can you place it?” Hakkai wondered. His dark green eyes took the bedroom in at that moment, looking for anything that was out of place.
“Yeah,” Goku glared at the window. Kougaiji didn’t move from his spot.
“Who is it?” Gojyo demanded, his weapon suddenly in his hand.
“Kougaiji,” Goku replied. He roamed the room and the bathroom, smelling. Till finally he came to stop in front of the window.
“He came in through here,” Goku turned but pointed at the window. Hakkai nodded.
“I doubt that Sanzou was in any trouble, he’s still sleeping peacefully, we should leave,”
“But what if he comes back?” Gojyo asked.
“I suppose…we could double up, but Sanzou won’t be happy about it in the morning,” Hakkai shrugged.
“Yeah, well you do realize that he has no bother for his own skin? Someone has to watch him,” Gojyo snorted.
“Why don’t you do it tonight, but no molesting him. He is very tired and he needs his sleep,” Hakkai waved a finger under Gojyo’s nose.
“Yeah, yeah, don’t worry about it,” he nodded, taking Hakkai very seriously.
“Come, Goku, let’s retire,” Hakkai bid the boy to exit the room. Goku went unwillingly but when Hakkai mentioned that Gojyo would be watching Sanzou, that was all he needed to know before he went with Hakkai, asking for a snack before bed.
Gojyo settled on the unused bed, the one closest to the door. He stripped off his boots and lent his weapon against the wall before settling. He watched Sanzou sleeping for close to an hour before he too nodded off.

Lirin was brimming with questions, but she held them in till they got to the dragons they left in the forest outside of the small town; “Kou! Why did you tuck Blondie in?”
“Because I like him,” Kougaiji replied, seriously.
“You aren’t going to kill him?” she blinked.
“No,” he shook his head.
“What about your Mother?” Lirin asked. This she knew was the only reason he even helped that woman she didn’t claim as a mother herself.
“I have another idea,” he smiled and then patted her head.
“Let’s go,” and with that, they climbed onto the back of the dragons and it took to the midnight sky. Taking them home and to the others.

Yaone was glad to see Lirin and Kougaiji return home. Dokugakuji was reading a book by the fire place. Kougaiji joined him as Yaone served Lirin her midnight snack.
“What did you do?” Dokugakuji asked, one eye brow raised.
“I’ve made it my intention to have Sanzou, his group needs to know this so that they may challenge me for the right to be his mate,” Kougaiji sniffed as if the whole thing had been obvious.
“And what does the Priest know of this?” Dokugakuji asked, once again not giving his Lord one inkling that he was fooled.
“He doesn’t, yet,” Kougaiji replied. Dokugakuji chuckled.
“Trust you to mate a human,” he joked.
“I am completely serious” Kougaiji pouted.
“Of course, and I will do anything you ask in order to help you with this venture,”
“As will I,” Yaone put in.
“You’re not threatened by this?” Kougaiji asked.
“As the Prince of what will soon become Demon Realm, the law states that you may have a lover of anyone you chose just so long as you take a wife to give the Realm a Prince,” Yaone replied.
“It’s settled then,” Kougaiji nodded to her, “I will take you as my wife, and Sanzou as my Concubine,” he settled back into the couch.
“Now all you have to do is make the human realize this,” Dokugakuji shook his head and chuckled. This wasn’t going to be easy.

Hakkai couldn’t sleep, he dozed off and on, but he couldn’t get to that place. No, his head was full of blond priest and how he would go about making Sanzou his mate. He thought of a place deep in a forest, full of his vines and other plants to make their den out of. Goku, of course, would have to come along. He was too young to know what mating was and would eventually find out and go out to find his own mate and den, however, Ever since Hakkai had met Sanzou he had thought about it. The pain from Kanan’s death seemed to fade just a bit at these thoughts and he smiled.

Goku dreamt of being imprisoned in a meat bun and waiting for the Sun to help him eat through the bars and help him escape. The sun, did, eventually come and whack him on the head for his stupidity.
- - -
Gojyo dreamt of pale, soft skin that smelt of Sandalwood, moaning and heat.
- - -
Sanzou found himself encased in blackness. He knew this was part of the spell that Kougaiji had put on him. He wondered why Kougaiji would tuck him in and make him sleep like this. Was he being kidnapped? Or…worse….raped? He didn’t want to think about it.
A tree suddenly popped up, he ran up to it, suddenly finding himself as a child once more. Covered in blood and suddenly with all of the obligations of a Sanzou Priest heaped upon his shoulders. Tears ran down his cheeks as a storm blew in from the darkness. He huddled down at the base of the tree and called out. He called for his master. For the one man who was ever a Father to him…
But he didn’t come.
He cried, and he cried, and he cried till sunlight filled the void and he sat up quickly in bed. Released from the spell as day dispelled night. He wasn’t alone either. Gojyo was in the other bed, fast asleep. Not being able to make himself mad because of this apparent betrayal of his wishes. Sanzou made his way to the bathroom.
Things had just become a bit more complicated if Kougaiji was interested in him. He didn’t think the Demon Prince would take kindly to his rejection of whatever it was Kougaiji was planning. There was a soft knock on the door.
“Hakkai say’s to come down and eat, he knows you didn’t last night,” Gojyo’s joking didn’t make Sanzou feel any better. He glared at the other as he passed him in order to grab his robes. Before he was able to pull them on, two strong arms encased him from behind.
“Was Kougaiji here, last night?” Gojyo whispered into his ear.
“I…don’t know. I think so but…I was awake and asleep so fast I can’t say for certain,” he lied through his teeth. Gojyo sniffed, then turned Sanzou around. He grabbed the other’s chin and Sanzou found himself looking up into angry garnet eyes.
“Don’t lie to me,” he ordered, “We’ve humored you so far, but no more. You don’t know how to care for yourself, you take risks you shouldn’t and then you wonder why we get pissed at you. Well, we’re taking over now and you can deal with it. Now, was Kougaiji here or not?” he shook the priest several times and Sanzou accidentally bit his tongue from the momentum.
The clicking of his gun cocking didn’t even phase Gojyo; “Let me go!”
“Stop growling and give me an answer!”
“Fine, he was, are you happy now?” Sanzou bit out. Gojyo glared and let his hands dropped from Sanzou’s shoulders.
“You’re not going to sleep alone, again,” he shook his head and smiled, “As much as I would love to be in bed with you…I think Hakkai would have something to say on the subject. He didn’t like my game when we were camping out. What I meant is that you will share a room with one of us,” and with that Gojyo turned away and lit a cigarette.
“Let’s go, Hakkai’s in a pissy mood,”
Sanzou pulled his robes on, stuffed his things into various pockets and followed Gojyo out of the room. He locked the door behind him, but he wished that he could stay. He had forgotten about eating, which he did often unless someone reminded him - Goku most often would notice - but he could be distracted. The other two, not so much.
They found Goku all ready digging into food and Hakkai watching them like a hawk as they entered the Inn’s dinning room. Sanzou got the chair next to Hakkai - who gave him an icy smile.
“I hope you’ll eat this morning,” he said by way of greeting.
“Any way to get you to drop dead any time soon,” Sanzou groused. He served himself some plane white rice and green tea. Goku stopped on his munching.
“Sanzou! That’s not enough! Aren’t you going to eat more?” Goku demanded.
“What, all of a sudden, made you my Mate?” Sanzou glared back. Goku blinked and turned to Hakkai.
“What does that mean?”
“Well,” Hakkai started, smirking at Sanzou as he did so, “When Demon’s Mate, one of them is always the submissive. That means that he or she, as the case may be, has to do whatever the Alpha tells their mate to do. Sanzou was just upset that you seemed to think that you were Alpha over him,” Hakkai chuckled.
“Oh, that’s cool! Sanzou! Who is your Alpha? Is it me? Or is it Hakkai, he tells you to do a lot of things,” Goku pointed out. Sanzou face palmed in embarrassment.
“Wait a second, who say’s it’s Hakkai?” Gojyo spewed coffee onto the floor. Much to the waitresses dismay.
“Well, Sanzou does hit you with the fan a whole lot,” Goku pointed out, “Which was why I didn’t say that I was the Alpha, seeing as how Sanzou NEVER listens to me,” Goku glared at the blond as if it was all his fault.
“None of you is Alpha over me, so forget it,” Sanzou waved his chop sticks at them. He then glared at the offending piece of hardware and threw them down.
“I’m not hungry, I’m getting some smokes, don’t follow me,” he pointed at Gojyo and Hakkai before stepping away from the table and making his way out of the Inn. He didn’t miss the glares both sent him. He wasn’t going to deal with their shit right now.
Once outside, he took a long breathe of air to calm down. He needed to meditate and figure out why the hell Kougaiji had visited him and yet didn’t demand or take his Sutra. That was weird. Unless, the Demon Prince had found another way of getting what he wanted. Whatever that was. Sanzou chanced a glance behind, If the others were following him - they were doing a damned good job of it.
“You know, Lord Kougaiji won’t be happy to know that you aren’t eating,” the sudden voice behind him made him jump, spin and bring his gun up. However, a grip of steal stopped this last action. Grinding his teeth. Sanzou glared at Dokugakuji.
“What is it now? Is his majesty going to be pissy about it too?” he ground out.
“He doesn’t want anything to happen to his future mate, which means that if you won’t eat yourself he will give order’s,” Dokugakuji delivered this none-plussed to the Monk.
“Let go,” the grip was becoming numbing. He was going to lose the grip he had on his gun, any moment now, he knew, it would slip from his grasp. Dokugakuji took the gun from Sanzou before letting the other’s wrist go.
“Give it back! I don’t need your protection, I can take care of myself,” Sanzou folded his arms. He felt like a petulant child wanting some chocolate after he had done something wrong. He hated that feeling. The monks in his childhood templed always made him feel that way. He was more responsible than that gang any day.
“You must promise me you will eat something,” was the ultimatum.
“Fine, there are stands all around, give my gun back and I will purchase something,” Sanzou growled. Dokugakuji nodded and held out the gun.
“I will go with you,”
Knowing that there was no way he could persuade the other to leave him the hell alone. Sanzou marched up to a baker and bought a pastry from her. It was only a few coins, leaving him with enough money to get his smokes without returning to Hakkai and demanding his card back. He nibbled at it as they made their way down the street. Sanzou stopping any where he saw Tobacco being advertised and asking for his brand.
“You shouldn’t smoke,” Dokugakuji said as he watched Sanzou purchase his favorite brand. Sanzou glance at the other and shrugged. His pastry was only half finished. He hated wasting food. Koumyu always mentioned that he ate like a bird. He didn’t force food on Sanzou but some times, mostly after he had been ill. Sanzou had tried to eat snacks through out the day, but that was soon stopped when the other Monks tried to ‘teach him properly’. They probably were to blame for his current eating habits. They had taught him that his body wasn’t important, but…when did that transcend into his life?
“Eat,” the gentleness of Dokugakuji’s words broke through his thoughts. He remembered being caned for eating an Apple that Koumyu had allowed him to have. He didn’t tell his Master that, even though Koumyu had found the welts a few hours later when tucking him into bed.
“I’m fine, I can’t eat this,” Sanzou handed it over to Dokugakuji, “Eat it or give it to Lirin. I hate wasting food,” he humped and lit a smoke. He felt much better for it. The nicotine rush made him sigh in pleasure.
“We’ll have to coordinate an eating schedule. Someone trained you wrong,” Dokugakuji muttered. He didn’t want to force the issue though. He knew that the Priest would just have to get used to his presence.
Chapter 2 -
Goku watched the blond from behind. The desert around them was vast and he wished that they didn’t always have to drive through deserts. Sanzou was sleeping up front. Hakkai and Gojyo coming to an understanding that when it came to the blond and sleeping, he was to be left alone. Otherwise, all they ever did was berate him. Asking him to eat, asking him if he needed to stop for some reason or another. Sometimes it came right down to full out bickering.
He couldn’t help but think about the night before when Dokugakuji showed up. He had wanted to talk to Sanzou about something, but Gojyo and Hakkai had gotten all defensive. Hakkai had even removed a limiter. The green vines were enough to dissuade Dokugakuji from taking Sanzou away from the group. However, when he had explained that he needed to get Sanzou onto a proper diet, and time for each meal. Hakkai and Gojyo were on his side. They didn’t like the fact that Kougaiji was after Sanzou for a Mate, Goku didn’t like it either.
But, Hakkai had explained that they would all have to fight each other, and whichever Alpha came out on top would keep Sanzou. Goku had reminded them all that he went with Sanzou no matter where the other went. So, if Sanzou was to shack up with any of them, Goku would be there too. After all, his Sun did save him from the cave where he had been imprisoned for things he did not remember. Sanzou taught him how to eat with chop sticks, that it was all right to make paper air plains out of important documents. That sometimes it was all right to cry, that it didn’t necessarily make you weak. That the stars were all aligned by some graceful hand. That the Gods where not to be trusted. He may say he didn’t care about him - meaning Goku - but the chimp knew that Sanzou cared deeply.
Now, it was noon, he was hungry. But Hakkai had asked him not to disrupt Sanzou’s nap. He was going to whisper for only Hakkai to hear, for he knew how to keep his voice lower than the hearing range of a human - though it had taken much practice - to let Hakkai know that he was hungry, when Gojyo popped a meat bun into his mouth with a wink. Hakkai turned is head to give them a smile and Goku started to nibble. He wanted the meat bun to last as long as possible.
Sanzou came awake suddenly. His head felt groggy and he wasn’t making anything out around him. He heard the hum of Jeep as it sped along. He groaned and lifted loosely fisted hands to wipe away the grit from his eyes. His throat was dry, he needed a drink. The sound of water moving around in a jug made him turn his head inwards. Gojyo was offering him the water flask. He took it without a word and drank a few deep chugs before handing it back. It was a good thing it was the public water gourd. But, that didn’t explain why he felt so sleepy.
“Damn, how am I supposed to fight if I can’t keep awake,” he muttered.
“It’s all right,” Hakkai soothed.
“We’ll wake you if there is trouble,” he winked at Gojyo who gave a victorious smile. Sanzou began to snore softly as Gojyo let Goku in on the secret. There were two water jugs, one for them and once for Sanzou. However, the one of Sanzou’s had a sleep inducing herb that Hakkai had found. It was odorless and tasteless but would last several hours.
“How will we wake him up if there is trouble?” Goku asked.
“Smelling salt, it’s very simple but effective,” Hakkai grinned. Proud of himself for thinking up something so devious yet simple at the same time. Goku wondered at his bravery. If it were him drugging Sanzou into a sleep, he’d get whacked with the paper fan of doom for sure.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea, Hakkai? Won’t Sanzou be pissed about it?” he had to ask.
“Of course he’ll be mad, but I honestly cannot care about that right now,” Hakkai replied. His smile was cold and Goku could tell that he and Gojyo were still mad at Sanzou for point blank informing them that he wasn’t going to submit. That nothing they could do would change his mind. Goku sighed. He really wished that Sanzou would eat and sleep properly. He was worried about his Sun. No point in denying that. But, his Sun was the sort where his anger could blaze for eons and never calm down to the steady glow Goku was still waiting for. Sanzou had to mellow out one of these days? Though, he did wonder if Sanzou would die before that time.
“It’s all right, Monkey, Sanzou will be fine,” Gojyo lit up a hi-light as he settled against the railing of the jeep. Goku sent him a perplexed look.
“If Sanzou doesn’t want either of you, will you leave him alone?”
“Mating doesn’t work like that,” Gojyo shook his head.
“But you’re mating all the time,” Goku pointed out.
“No, I am having sex. I don’t want attachments with those broads. Mating is different because once you pick your Mate, you stay with them for the rest of your life, got it?” Gojyo explained.
“Oh, than you, Hakkai and Kougaiji all want Sanzou?” Goku scratched the back of his neck.
“Essentially, that is correct,” Hakkai put in.
“But he’s human,”
“It doesn’t matter,” Gojyo waved his hand.
“Demon’s will Mate with whoever they Mate with. Gojyo and I have to decide who will Mate with Sanzou and then whoever wins has to beat Kougaiji at his own game,” Hakkai explained slowly so that Goku would be able to understand.
“But what if Sanzou all ready has a Mate? Won’t that person be pissed that you’re trying to steal him?” Goku found that he had scooted closer to Sanzou. He could hear the blonds soft breathing from the drugged state he was in.
“He doesn’t have a Mate, we would have known,” Gojyo scoffed. Hakkai nodded. However, Goku could tell that it did worry them a bit. More questions buzzed about in his head, but he settled for dragging his long fingers through Sanzou’s hair and thinking over the situation.

Kougaiji was up to his eyeballs in paper work. Being Crown Prince of the Demons was no laughing matter. He had to get married, get rid of his stupid soon-to-be-stepmother and gain his real Mother back in a matter of a month. It was all very time consuming. It was a good thing that he had what his future Mate wanted. The Seiten Scripture. The Scripture of Heaven.
He inked his name on another document and set it aside.; he hoped that the Merciful Goddess wasn’t pulling his leg by informing him that only by his Mating with Sanzou would he gain everything he ever wanted. His Mother, His Kingdom, His family, His Mate. As long as he didn’t terrorize humans and insist on Demons and Human’s becoming brothers and family once more. She didn’t seem to care for Sanzou’s well being - though, Demon law stated that if a Human was taken for a Mate that their rights as Human’s would be recognized. The Demon Law also stated that any Human could be taken as a Monk, even a Sanzou Priest. Not that Kougaiji ever learned of anyone taking such as one.
“Lord Kougaiji, I have come with an update,” Dokugakuji bowed before standing. Kougaiji rose and beckoned him to the sitting area of the office. The office was a warm stone, with soft pelts about the floor to protect feet from the cold, the fire place was going at full steam because the high towers that Kougaiji took as his own were very drafty.
“What did you find?” Kougaiji asked, he poured them both some win and he handed one glass to Dokugakuji. Now, sitting and talking as friends instead of superior to his foot demon.
“Genjo Sanzou may prove to be a challenge for you, Kou,” Dokugakuji started, “He refuses to eat properly, though I did gain the help of Cho Hakkai and Sha Gojyo in the act of getting the Monk onto a proper eating schedule. Getting him to quit smoking will prove a rough patch as well,” Dokugakuji explained.
“I knew that all ready. What else?” Kougaiji asked. He sipped at his wine.
“He takes too many risks for being your future Mate. He isn’t following our laws at all,”
“I know. Sanzou doesn’t follow the laws of Buhda either,” Kougaiji shook his head.
“Shall I bring him to you?” Dokugakuji asked.
“No, it is not safe here at the moment. We will have to get rid of that bitch before I am able to claim the throne that is rightfully mine,” Kougaiji replied. He growled the last bit out. He hated his father’s Mistress. He would possibly have to execute her himself. Unless….
“Dokugakuji, bring me my Advisor, Andras. He was Second in power to my Father but a good Friend and very loyal. I think he may be able to help us get rid of Father’s Mistress, legally,” Kougaiji smirked. Reading all of the newest volumes of the Demon Law Books had really paid off.
Now all he had to do was see what Andras thought of this idea and see if the other Demon Lord’s would play along. If he could do this legally, it wouldn’t be hard to stop the Minus Wave and begin trust developments between Demons and Human’s once more.
Dokugakuji nodded, he swallowed his wine before bowing and leaving the study. Kougaiji watched him go before his thoughts turned to his Blond Lover and where he would house his Mate when they were legally Mated.

Sanzou woke when the Jeep stopped in a hard jerk. He rubbed at his eyes and yawned. It was late. The moon was full and a bright blue. The stars twinkled in the sky and he could make out Orion’s Belt from where he sat.
“Well, shall we get some rooms for the night and something to eat?” Hakkai asked. Sanzou nodded. Goku jumped about excitedly.
“EAT! EAT! EAT!” He yelped when Sanzou hit him squarely on the top of his head with the fan of doom.
“Ouch, what did you do that for!?” Goku whined. He rubbed the top of his head as he pouted up at Sanzou.
“It’s late, don’t be so loud,” Sanzou replied, softly though there was some venom to his words. He was tired and he never could be very mean to Goku when he first woke from a nap or any sort of sleeping. They stropped into the Inn after that. Hakkai lecturing Sanzou on proper eating habits and that he wasn’t going to inform Dokugakuji that Sanzou wasn’t listening to any of them. Gojyo put in that it would be kind of kinky if they had to tie him down and force feed him. Sanzou replied with a gun shot, point blank, which barely missed Gojyo, but not by much.
Sanzou did try to eat. He knew as much that he should. He did notice getting bony. But he had always been bony. He had always been able to count his ribs. It really wasn’t anything new. He hated the others worrying over him. Especially when he would happily murder them and leave them on the side of the road to rot.
Hakkai watch as Sanzou took small bites of plain white rice. He kept pouring the other green tea. Which Sanzou didn’t particularly enjoy but he wasn’t allowed beer and he didn’t feel like fighting for his right to drink. Really, it was just stupid and they’d get over themselves soon enough if he just left it.
Soon he was done, he couldn’t eat any more than one bowl of rice with a bit of chicken to mollify Hakkai and some vegetables because Goku hated eating his greens. Sanzou had a good helping and then shot at Goku when he thought the other had tricked him into it. Of course Son Goku was tricky, he was King of the Monkey’s. Damn it all!
He was shaking, badly, by the time dinner was done. He bought a paper from the front desk of the Inn and made it upstairs in record time, locking the door behind him. The sun was setting, casting the room into a strange gloom. Sanzou lit a lamp. The warm glow didn’t make him feel any better. He rolled up the scroll and removed the grass braided vest before pushing the top of his robe down and off his shoulders. He rustled about in the various pockets till he found his smokes and lit one. It helped dispel some of the shaking.
No one bothered him that evening, but, that didn’t mean that someone wouldn’t show up in the morning for a report on his condition. If he could just do this on his own, he would. Why the hell did he have to be the one saddled with this responsibility?
