Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Eater or it’s characters. I make no money from this fan fiction, and I never will. I’m just a lowly writer who enjoys a good story.

If I have to make a rough guess, I would say this particular fanfic takes place somewhere after the first encounter with Corona and the black blood so around 15 give or take an episode, just so we know, but I’m throwing a different ball at this fanfic, hence the confusion if you don’t quite get it at first.

Maka’s POV

“This is just so un cool” What could only be explained as a mess of white hair was roughly turned over as the body decided it was the best time to roll over. Slightly pale features, rewarded with red eyes looked up at the person from whom he called partner. A girl, slightly taller than he, probably because of all his slouching, stared down at him. As always her hair remained in those rather plain pigtails and her attire consisted of her plaid skirt and a dress shirt all under a rather long black coat. Soul’s hands went to his pockets and he grumbled softly “Training? Really?” He found his way to his feet and brushed the dirt from one of his shoulders. Maka sure was dangerous when she wanted to be but he didn’t think that they required any training beyond what they already were. After all, they fought, and then they would win and that was that. Right?

Maka shook her head, her brownish blond pig tails moving freely and giving little taps to her face as they moved. “Soul, we need to be better prepared. Black Star and Kid are both stronger…” she paused and placed her hand to her chin as her green eyes turned down in thought “if we can master the witch hunter, then we can get stronger.”

Soul rubbed the back of his head and let out a yawn “fine, what ever. But can we continue tomorrow? I’m kind of hungry.” The girl gave a bit of a nod and turned to look at the sky. As usual the sun was doing it’s drooling thing but she had long ago stopped being bothered by how the sky choose to live its days.

“Go ahead, Soul, I need to pick up some things. It’s my turn tonight and I don’t even have any instant ramen any more.” Soul simply gave a shrug and turned, his body fallowing its normal curve before he began to trek back home. Maka however had other plans. She made her walk towards the store but veered off at last moment and made her way into the mess of trees. The path was one she knew well, of course it was hard not to for she had taken it so many times. She came upon a simple stone wall and climbed on it. With a motion of ease she swung her legs over and took a place upon the man made wall. From here she cold look over the town, which was the ultimate goal.

Up here the air seemed fresher, and the area more quiet as if she could think better. But most of all she was alone. Arms circled her body as she held herself and began to shiver. She couldn’t continue to lie to Soul like this. It was only a matter of time before he found out. Sure he couldn’t see souls like she could, but that was only half the battle. He was her partner and because of that, she was sure at some point the would be able to hear her thoughts or feel her emotions which would be something terrible. Fingers clawed at her arms thought those what gloved and she began to shiver almost violently.

Back then, she didn’t know when or why but she was getting this feeling that coursed through her body much like the plague. She figured that this state of mind had to be what Professor Stein felt like, or maybe something close to it. She relaxed her body and gave a quick glance around before pulling up the right sleeve of her shirt and looking down at her arm. As the many times before she just stared at the smooth and pale skin. Soul had not seen it after the fight with the wolf like man. The words above that bewitched eye were correct in Maka’s mind. No future was how she felt. The black blood had been spilt in her gloved hand and when she’d went to see Nurse Medusa, it was still there.

How long could she hide this fact from Soul? How long before she would end up like the demon blade? That madness, that utter fear. From her pocket she removed a small pin. Bringing it to her arm she pressed the sharp end down jut enough so a small bead of blood began to form. It was red, which calmed her slightly but as that single drop moved across her arm and fell towards the stone wall, it turned black. The wound stopped it’s bleeding and Maka hurled the pin, its new location now unknown.

She pulled her sleeve down and pulled her knees to her chest. What would happen? What if soul found out? Hoe many times had she gone to Nurse Medusa in chances of changing the unknown? They had promised each other, her and the blond woman, no one would know about her condition unless it worsened, but it wasn’t getting any better. The capsules that she’d been given were supposedly helping subdue the blood from taking full control of her body but they didn’t’ seem to work al that well. She trusted Medusa, but when would she get better?

Add this to the new emotion she was feeling towards her partner and you got a brilliant mind, just full of empty space. She didn’t know how to react to this or how to approach it. Soul was her best friend so she couldn’t’ go around changing their connection with something as “un cool” as feelings. Sure enough that boy would think they were such right? She wouldn’t know. She felt herself growing distant from Soul. It was getting harder and harder just to wield him, almost like their soul link was just becoming something of the distant past. Her mind was so conflicted that she just couldn’t understand why. Soul didn’t seem to trust her in that way any how. After all eh went to Madusa to talk about his recurring dreams and not her. Did that mean she was not a reliable partner?

Of course she was, she was going mad, she was losing the ability to wield him and she was growing so utterly confused with how things now that she was probably losing her mind and body to the black blood, to the madness.

“Maka?” She was snapped from her thoughts and slowly turned. Three stripes on black hair and dressed as snazzy as ever, Death the kid. The symmetry obsessed, gold eyed boy walked over to the wal where she sat perched and leaned against it. Unlike usual, the male was missing his companions, Patty and Liz seemed to be missing from their meister, which was unusual but not worth mentioning really. After all she was here without Soul right?

“Kid?” was her simple and honest response. After all she didn’t know why the boy had decided to approach her. They didn’t talk often. The boy folded his arms and looked over at the city his father protected. Who really knew what he was thinking, the same look normally adored his face, well this one and the one of pure disgust when something didn’t quite match up.

“You have that look on your face. The one that says your thinking to hard.” He smiled slightly but didn’t stop there “Would you like to talk about it?” It was at that moment that Maka was most surprised. She turned towards the boy and blinked a few times unsure of how to answer. Sure she knew that it was easy to read her sometimes but she didn’t think that Kid paid all that much attention to her due to his personality. His smile grew a bit and he turned to look at the girl beside him “even when you’re lost in thought, did you know that your face is perfectly symmetrical?”

Kid’s POV

Sure he’d noticed. Come on it was hard not to. From her hair down Maka was probably the embodiment of symmetrical. You could start from her hair, which usually fell in the same pattern and she normally always wore it either down or in pigtails. He had seen it no other way. Then there was her way of dress. The white shirt was nicely placed and the tie not to bad either. Her black coat opened up and descended exactly at the same points to reveal her skirt. So if you moved down to her shoes you could end it with the exact same note on either side. If Kid drew a like down Maka’s body, he would be able to show everyone else the perfectly symmetrical person.

Her expression was perfect even when she was surprised at his words. He could hardly contain himself at the pure joy of it all. Sure maybe some call it obsession but he called it arm. She didn’t answer and returned to her starting. So in return Kid went back to his staring idly at the town of his father. “Say Kid?” her voice rand in his ears and he turned to face her with a slight look of disinterest. He could see the conflict all over her face but dared not say anything that would ruin the mood. “how do you do it? I mean how do you go out there very day and just take what life gives you?” while she didn’t say it, he knew she was mentioning his obvious issue with symmetrical things. Sometimes he didn’t want to leave the house because he knew the world was not his ideal play ground, but he had no choice if he wished to live life as it was now.

He slowly turned around and placed his arms against the wall. With his back to the town he felt he could better answer her question “If I focus on what is important, the other things just don’t bother me as much” this was shown in the many times he’d been put back on track by patty and Liz. If he was shown what was wrong with the enemy then he could focus on the enemy and not on the disarray of things around him nor the things that he felt the strong urge to fix. So even with his evident problem, he could live a semi normal life. “If I can see just one thing, then the rest, well who needs it. Like now, I could look out onto the town and see all the things wrong with it, or I can look at you. I find the second to be the more like-able option.”

Maka’s face turned a slight shade of pink and he couldn’t help but find a little but of humor in the way she turned away from him. He pushed off of the wall and placed his hands into his pockets. He didn’t have long before Liz and Patty caught up so he would have to make this quick. “I do have a proposal however.” he said in a soft tone as his eyes found their way to the sky “I may be a bit weird, and I’m certainly not your partner, but give me a try. “ they were vague words but then again when did anyone around here just come out and say what they wanted to say?

“You’re tense body suggests that you need a helping hand any how. Maybe a date would do you some good” and it was all clear what Kid had been asking of Maka. But before Maka could respond, one rather bouncy being and a more taller one came into the clearing, taking their places at Kid’s side. He smiled as they brought him news about what they had been doing but fell into his normal expression as he walked away, pausing only to glance behind him and look to Maka’s figure “just think about it, that’s all I ask” and he, with Liz and Patty fallowing, left the scene.

Maka’s POV

Okay she was more surprised than ever. It took almost five minutes to determine what exactly Kid had asked of her. By the time she had managed to decipher and understand the words, he was gone. ‘Kid, was asking me out on a date?’ She couldn’t lie, the boy did have his good looks and not to mention plenty of ability and he seemed to understand her. Whenever she brought up something deep like t his with Soul he tended to avoid the subject completely. He was going to the nurse with his problems anyway so maybe she wasn’t needed in that aspect.

She hoped down from her perch, her feet making no sound as she kicked up dirt. She would swing by the school and pick up her book then head home to Soul. Her thoughts were put aside for the time being, the short walking taking place as she found herself thinking about Kid. Sure he had many weird things going on, and he was obsessive compulsive about thing being symmetrical but he was a good guy through and through. Maybe dating him would be good for her? She could find herself maybe relaxing a little. Maybe then she could talk to him a bit about her problems and face Soul? It was a good idea.

When she found her way out of her thoughts she was facing the door to her class room. Slight muffled sounds were beyond the door but Maka made no notice of them as she was still on a mission and well, obviously not worried about the people on the other side. She knew those souls and it was not unusual to see them together. But when she opened the door her jaw dropped. Her hair decided that moment that it would defy gravity and her face took on a slightly blue tint. There on the desk was the red headed man she called papa and hovering over him was none other than Professor Stein. It seemed that such a moment made the two men put their guards down as they didn’t seem to see her.

But man did she see more then she would ever want to know. What other speculation was there to draw from the scene before her. Her father, his hands on the white haired man’s shoulders and said white haired man’s fingers crawling up her papa’s shirt. Their clothes were in disarray and faces, or what she could see of them, were flushed. She bit her lip and took a step back, Her leg hit the swivel chair that Stein usually sat in causing it to slide across the floor, which of course managed to take the two men from their infatuation with each other and finally notice the presence in the room. Stein looked over but it was hard to read what he was thinking while on the other hand her father’s eyes grew to the size of basket balls and cried out “Maka!” in a surprised tone.

Maka turned “please excuse me” and rn out the door, said thing falling shut behind her with a click.

“I don’t know how we are going to explain this one Spirit”

As usual I had to stick with my normal Yaoi self and throw that in there. I will most likely continue this but I do have so many other things to do and this chapter just managed to squeeze out of me.
