The New Sanzo-Ikkou Chronicles

Requiem for the Nearly-Departed

A quick character description, this girl has short silver hair and blue eyes. Imagine Amu Hinamori from Shugo Chara! With that description. Everything else will be revealed in time. Time to start the story!

The Sanzo-Ikkou were driving through the outskirts of a large desert town, now traveling Eastward back home. Though each was tired, they were satisfied that the journey was over. Gyumao was no longer a threat anymore.

Goku and Gojyo were sleeping in the back, their usual posts. As Hakkai guided Hakkuryu through the desert, a soft smile on his face. Sanzo’s amethyst eyes were closed, a freshly lit cigarette between his lips.

Goku’s dreams were, of course about food. He was sitting at a long table with a white cloth covering its wooden surface. Before him was a mountain of fresh, piping hot meat buns. And a chef just served him a whole roasted duck.

Stars were in the monkey’s eyes. But, as he inhaled and expected the succulent and mouth-watering scent of duck and meat buns. Instead, the odor of something metallic stung his sensitive nostrils.

His sleeping face contorted in disgust, then his golden eyes snapped open. “Stop the jeep Hakkai!!!” Goku exclaimed, startling everyone out of their relaxed reverie and making Hakkai bring Hakkuryu skidding to a halt.

“What the hell, monkey?! This had better be good!” Gojyo hollered, grabbing Goku by the collar of his muffler and shaking the young boy.

“Calm down, Gojyo. Now, Goku, what do you sense?” Hakkai asked, voice calm and soft as he gazed curiously at the party’s most hyper member.

“I smell blood…and its pretty fresh.” Goku answered, looking in several directions.

“I don’t care who its from, let’s just get back to Chang’an.” Sanzo grunted, already annoyed as he reached for his infamous fan.

Before any of them could say anything, Goku leapt out of the jeep, dashing off in the direction of the scent of blood. The rest of his party trailing behind him, knowing that nothing could really stop Goku once he set his mind to it.

The monkey’s search took him uphill to a small, neglected graveyard sitting atop a large sand dune. Cacti and several other desert plant life littered the loose sand. Small geckos and scorpions skittered across the graves, all mostly unmarked.

Goku’s golden eyes quickly found the source of the scent that woke him. Thrown into a barely filled grave was a young girl, silver-grey hair covering her face, both splattered with blood.

She had on black skinny jeans with a black leather, studded buckle holding them up around her hips. Black combat boots laced up to her calves. A long sleeved black shirt was under a pink tank top with a grey skull on it, heart for eye sockets.

Gojyo, Hakkai and Sanzo arrived a minute later, seeing Goku beside the deceased girl. “Oh Gods…” Hakkai gasped, sprinting to the girl’s side.

The soft-spoken man began examining what he could. There were cuts in her clothes along her arms, legs and abdomen. “Whatever happened to this girl, she clearly put up a fight.” he said, noticing the blood and what looked like flesh under her nails.

But, now here hands were tied together, as were her feet. Hakkai also took notice of her jean pockets being turned out, which were now sloppily put back into place. ’A mugging?’ he wondered, as he cut the rope biding her.

Goku gulped. “Hakkai…look at her face…” he sounded disturbed.

Hakkai raised his left hand and carefully moved her bangs out of her face, which was ghostly pale. Even Sanzo was taken aback by what he saw. This poor girl was shot point blank in the middle of her forehead.

“That’s sick…and look at her ears.” Gojyo sighed, this girl’s ears were slightly pointed, indicating her demonic heritage.

“A hate crime? Even if that whole fiasco has been dealt with, there are people who won’t forget what has transpired so easily…” Sanzo explained, lighting a cigarette.

“Hakkai…”

“Yes, Goku?” Hakkai asked, looking to his young companion.

Goku tilted his head curiously and in confusion. “Should her chest be rising?” he queried, an eyebrow quirked.

“What?” Hakkai turned his emerald gaze back to the girl and his eyes widened. Her chest was indeed rising, ever so slightly. He was shocked Goku even noticed. The dark-haired male placed his index and middle fingers to the girl’s neck. “Oh my God, she’s still warm. A pulse? She still has a pulse!” Hakkai exclaimed, relief coming over his face as he ordered Hakkuryu to turn into his Jeep form.

Sanzo glared at Goku, Gojyo and Hakkai loading back up in the Jeep, Goku holding the girl as Gojyo attempted to bandage her up. “Just what the hell do you think you’re doing, Hakkai?”

“There’s a chance we can still save this poor girl. Demon or no, she shouldn’t be allowed to die like this.” Sanzo knew that was the Cho Hakkai version of ‘We’re saving this girl, live with it.’

So, the ill-tempered monk took his usual seat beside Hakkai as they raced to the hospital in the town they just left.

The young girl was now sleeping on a small bed in a hotel, wounds bandaged and face clean of blood. She was now breathing regularly, even if it was still somewhat shaky.

She began stirring, opening her eyes, everything blurry. “What the…I’m not dead?” her voice was hoarse and somewhat cracked from sleep and near-death.

“Ah, so Sleeping Beauty finally awakens.” an exotic male voice cooed playfully.

The girl slowly turned her head in the direction the voice came from, her right and saw a very handsome man sitting across from the bed. She gve the redhead a confused look. ‘A half-breed?’ she wondered. She was not racist, just did not expect to see a hanyou. His eyes were such a vibrant red, like a blood red moon.

“Wh-where am I…?” she asked, still sounding weak.

“In a hotel in the desert town of…ah I can’t remember.” the hanyou answered, a hand in his long red locks.

“I know you’re going to ask, what happened? Well, the monkey boy smelled your blood and found a cute little gal hog-tied and face down in a grave. Sound familiar?” he explained, a smooth smirk on his tanned face.

The girl only nodded, short dark silver hair blocking her face. “So, what’s your name, beautiful?”

“Taiso…you?” Taiso turned toward him, allowing him to finally to see her eyes. Such a brilliant blue hue.

He smiled kindly, “Its Gojyo, Sha Gojyo.” the redhead answered, a sweet smile still on his lips.

Gojyo stood up, hand sliding into his pocket and pulling out his pack of cigs and lighting one. “You just focus on getting some rest and recovering, the monkey’s been worried sick. I’ll come get you when we have dinner, sound good, Taiso?” he asked, turning back to see her response as he opened the door.

All she did was nod, she still felt exhausted and groggy. “Sweet dreams, angel.”

Gojyo walked out to the small dining area in the lower part of the inn, playing some single Blackjack, killing time until the other’s got back.

Goku immediately barged in, carrying numerous bags of supplies and setting them on the table, messing up Gojyo’s game. “What the hell, you stupid monkey?!” he growled, almost crushing the cards in his hand.

“How is she?” Goku asked, completely ignoring the man’s previous quip.

Gojyo sighed, exhaling smoke from his cigarette in the process. “She’s fine so far, spoke to her about fifteen minutes ago. I’ll tell ya, that lil girl has the most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen.” the water sprite said, crossing his arms behind his head.

“Oh, what did she say?” Hakkai asked, setting his bags down as well as Goku waited for what his perverted friend had to say.

“She didn’t say much. I only found out her name, its Taiso.”

“Taiso? ‘Requiem’…such a sad name.” Hakkai frowned, getting food out for them.

“Taiso? I think its kinda cute. Hey, can I have these meat buns, Sanzo? Can I please?” Goku asked happily, pulling his desired snack out.

“Wait until Hakkai warms them up, idiot!” Sanzo growled, smacking the monkey with his paper fan.

“That hurt!!! I’m can’t help if I’m starving!” Goku whined, hand to his head.

Gojyo and Hakkai ignored them and continued their conversation. “I did tell her that I’d go get her when we ate.” Gojyo told his friend, leaning back in his chair.

Hakkai smiled softly, “I think I could make her some soup with dried noodles on the side with some tea. Start out light so she can keep something down, she has been out for a few days after all.”

“Oh, and Hakkai, she says thanks to both you and Goku.” Gojyo added, taking another puff of his cig.

“Oh? She said so herself?” the soft-spoken man asked curiously.

“Not exactly. But, the look in her eyes said it all. She is thankful.” the half-breed responded, trademark smirk on his face as he looked up at the ceiling.

“That’s nice of her. I can’t wait to meet our little Requiem.”
