I stare deep into cat-like eyes.

Those damned, soulless spheres.

Your stride is slow

and you hang your head low.

Depression, no, just broken.

I want to pick you up, like a token,

polish you clean, place you in my purse,

but that would make it worse.

No matter how much I try.

I know, one day, you will die.

Sitting on that park bench,

feeding those chirping finch,

I see the soul return;

freed from that internal urn,

and I smile bright,

for I see your eternal light.

Beside me, you sit down,

I shift, you frown.

We talk, smile, cry;

at least, for now, you won't die.
