THE BIG O Presents:
I Don’t Mind
One day forty years ago, everybody in Paradigm City lost their memories. But humans are adaptable creatures. If they can find out how to repair things and harness electricity, they can make some kind of civilization, even without a history. For them, the past is one great mystery, one that may never be solved. In the meantime they get along and have to find a way to solve their greatest mystery, the mystery of their own hearts.
The girl stood on the three foot tall stone railing looking out over the city. Wind blew through her reddish black dress and brick red pageboy haircut. The sun shone off her egg white skin creating a luminescence that defied her somber clothing and the dour expression on her young lineless face.
“Penny for your thoughts?” a tall dark haired handsome young man asked as he walked across the rooftop patio to join her. “You look pretty lost in thought there. What are you thinking about?”
As she turned and looked at him, an electric servo could be heard. “It’s nothing Roger.”
“Come on, Dorothy,” he teased. “It’s not nothing. It may be private and none of my business but it’s not nothing. If something is bothering you it’s okay to say something. Go ahead and tell me about it. I’m ready to listen.”
“I just wonder how the real Dorothy Wayneright would fare if she was here instead of me,” she said as she turned back to the view. “Would she be frightened of the world the way it is? Would you like her better than you like me? Would she like you? Would the two of you be in love?”
“Don’t talk like that Dorothy,” the man scolded. “You are ‘the real’ Dorothy Wayneright, even if you are an android who was built to replace the one who died forty years ago. Your life is just as valid and important as hers was.”
“Is it?” she asked. “Am I a real person or do I just think I am? Do I really have opinions or is my behavior governed by a series of programs combined with that dead girl’s Memories? Does my opinion count, or am I just a machine that imitates humanity so well that not even I can tell the difference?”
“Wouldn’t you know?”
“Of course not,” the girl said. “If I was programmed to believe I’m a real girl and not just a machine I wouldn’t know the difference would I? I think that I’m real, but what if I’m wrong? How do I know I’m a real person?”
“Only a real person can ask those things Dorothy,” he assured her. “Believe me, humans ask themselves questions like that too. Do I have a soul? Am I person, or just an animal that got too clever for its own good? Where do I come from? Will I still exist after I die? Sooner or later, everyone, human or android asks themselves the big questions for which there is no concrete answer.”
“What do you think I am?” she asked.
He coughed awkwardly into his black gloved fist, loosened his tie, and put his hands in the pockets his ebony double breasted jacket. “I think that you’re a real person of course,” he assured her.
“Are you sure?” she asked. “How do you know?”
“How do I know?” he repeated indignantly to hide the fact that he was flustered. “Uh… I observe, and draw conclusions based off my observations.” Good. Something intellectual sounding should make it sound like he knew what he was talking about.
“What have you observed?” she continued. “What is it that you’ve noticed about me? Tell me Roger.”
The wind chose that moment to blow on Dorothy’s back causing her reddish black skirt to cling to her shapely posterior. That answered one of the big questions. Did God exist? The answer was yes and He apparently had a wicked sense of humor.
“Uh things,” Roger blushed. “I’ve noticed things about you.”
“What sort of things?” she asked in her calm innocent voice.
“Uh, you have opinions,” Roger smiled. “You think that black is a tacky color, for instance, but I love it. If you were a mindless robot you’d agree with whatever I said, no matter what.”
“What else?”
“You showed a lot of affection for that cat,” Roger continued. “You were afraid of that skeletal megadeus we encountered under the city. You have a rapier wit.”
“What about my music?”
“You’re getting better at expressing yourself,” he added. “Lately some of your songs have shown a lot of heart.”
“I see,” she said as she got off the railing to walk back into the house.
“Dorothy?” he asked. “Did I say something to upset you?”
“No,” she said. “Don’t worry about it.”
Roger sighed and scratched the back of his neck. That girl was as hard to read as a document that had fallen into a vat of ink. It was hard to tell what she was feeling, or even if she had feelings in the first place. She had a point though. Was she a real person, or were her actions governed by a complex series of preprogrammed responses intended to mimic human behavior? Sometimes it drove him crazy not knowing. He could only imagine how Dorothy herself was taking it.
When she first moved in, Roger Smith didn’t know what to make of her. Her creator had just died and his butler Norman Burg claimed that he needed the help. For some reason he felt protective of the little android ever since he met her and assumed it was due to her darling appearance. After a while that feeling grew into something else, but Roger wasn’t sure what it was yet.
It was the late Timothy Wayneright’s fault. He had built Dorothy to replace a daughter he lost four decades ago before dying himself and leaving the girl with nowhere to go. He had created the girl to love her, and thus, Dorothy was lovable. Somehow that surly android got along with everyone, despite the fact that she was about as much fun as a root canal.
Did Roger love Dorothy? He hoped not, at least not in that way. He didn’t need that kind of complication in his life and he didn’t think that Dorothy was ready for something like that either. Besides, she was kind of young for him.
Kind of young for him? Who was he kidding? She was way too young for him. In the first place, she looked like a slender teenage girl. That was young enough in Roger’s book to exclude the slightest possibility of romance. In the second place, he got the impression that she had been constructed shortly before they first met. That put her age in the single digits. Ugh.
Hypothetically, what would happen if Roger told Dorothy he loved her? She wouldn’t blush, she couldn’t. Would she say that she didn’t understand? Would she tell him that she couldn’t feel love and not to bother? Would she tell him that she didn’t feel that way for him? Would she say yes and pretend to go along with it, even though she’d feel nothing? How would she feel? Would she feel anything?
Why was he asking himself these questions? Probably because she asked him similar ones in the past. “If we lost our memories and we met each other, would we fall in love?” That question he never forgot. It implied that Dorothy could fall in love in the first place. It also implied that Dorothy was interested in being in love. But was interest and ability two different things? It certainly was a pickle alright, and one that Roger was too much of a gentleman to explore.
A few days passed and Roger paid more attention to Dorothy, but it seemed as if she was paying less attention to him. She did her chores without a word, and sat at the table with him during meals without comment. She wasn’t even waking him up with the piano anymore, like she usually did when he slept in too late. Norman assured him that she still played the piano, but only when Roger wasn’t home. Something was going on.
One day Roger decided to confront her. He waited until she was cleaning his room so he could corner her. “Okay, Dorothy. What’s going on?”
“I don’t know what you mean,” she said as she made his bed. Roger blushed as she bent over and the drape of her skirt displayed the shape of her artificial but adorable behind. Either the original Dorothy had a great caboose, or the little android’s creator had some kind of fetish.
“For the last few days you’ve been acting like my maid instead of my guest,” Roger said as he crossed his arms and leaned against the doorway. “You haven’t even been getting me up with that awful piano of yours. At first I didn’t mind, but now I’m getting worried. You haven’t been yourself lately. Is something going on that I should know about?”
She stopped and looked back at him, the servos in her neck audibly humming. “I’m fine, Roger. I really don’t know what you mean.”
“I mean lately you’ve been acting like a servant!” Why did Roger raise his voice? Was he really that upset? Why was this so important to him? He coughed into his gloved fist and spoke in a gentler voice. “I know I can be a tyrant sometimes, but believe it or not your opinion matters to me Dorothy.”
“Why?” she asked. “I’m only an android. My opinions don’t really matter, do they Roger?”
“What kind of nonsense is that?” Roger growled. “Of course they do!”
“I don’t see how they would,” Dorothy said. “I am completely indebted to you. You allow me to live here and pay all my expenses. I have very little experience with the real world so I have little to no data with which to offer any useful input. I am not technically a living being and as such you have no real obligation to shelter me. The logical conclusion is that I should do what I can to make your life easier and stop interfering with your decisions.”
“What are you talking about?” Roger sneered. “That’s ridiculous! Where did you get that drivel? ‘Little to no data with which to offer any input?’ Since when do you talk like that Dorothy?”
“I read.”
“Whatever books you’re reading, you should stop!” Roger scolded. “Dorothy, you can’t deny who you are! This isn’t like you! I’m sorry if I haven’t been giving you enough freedom but I had hoped that you could at least have your dignity!” Was he panicking? Why was he so upset?
“Don’t worry about it,” she said. “I don’t mind. I can’t survive with total freedom and I don’t really need dignity. I’ll be content to serve and make your life easier. It’s better this way. You should meet a human girl. That way the two of you can have children.”
Roger’s face turned beet red as Dorothy turned around to continue her work. “I DON’T WANT TO HAVE CHILDREN!” he bellowed at a volume that insured that he could be heard clearly as far away as Electric City. “Don’t need your dignity eh?” he sneered as he advanced on the android as she bent over to make his bed. “We’ll see about that!” With that remark he walked over and seized her perfectly shaped rump.
“Ay,” Dorothy gasped quietly as she stood up and flinched. Wait a second? Stood up and flinched? That’s not the way an android moves at all. Dorothy should have stood up like a professional soldier! Roger wanted a reaction, but he hadn’t expected this.
He looked down and noticed that he was still cupping her behind. Heck, his fingers were down at crotch level. “Uh!” Roger grunted as he let go and took a step backwards. What the hell had he done? Part of him hoped that Dorothy would break his wrist. Part of him hoped that Dorothy would tell him that he made his point and he should stop now. And part of him was fixating on how much Dorothy felt like a human being down there.
When he took his hand away, Dorothy’s posture became ramrod straight again. Roger held his breath and waited for the other shoe to drop. To his surprise and disappointment, she finished making the bed like nothing happened.
“What?” Roger protested. “That’s it? No ‘you’re such a louse Roger Smith?’ No telling me that if I do that again you’ll break my fingers? No telling me I went too far? What’s got into you anyway?”
“Nothing’s got into me,” Dorothy told him as she fluffed his pillows. “I’m fine Roger. Don’t worry about it.”
“You’re not fine!” he insisted as he marched back into her personal space. “You’re not even close to fine! Something’s wrong! This isn’t the Dorothy Wayneright I know. What happened to you?”
“Nothing’s happened to me,” she told him.
“Then why did you let me get away with what I did there?” he demanded. “It was childish, degrading, and totally uncalled for!”
“It was your right,” she said.
“What? My right? I had no right to do something like that!” Roger shook his head. “It was thoughtless and demeaning. What about your rights?”
“I don’t have any,” Dorothy said. “I don’t count.”
“What?” Roger seized her shoulders. “Dorothy, please, don’t talk like that,” he said in a quieter voice. “What’s the matter with you? You count. You have rights. You exist and you have the right to your dignity just as much as I do. ”
“No I don’t,” the girl said. “I don’t see why you should feel so guilty Roger. It’s not like you took me apart or anything. Placing your hand on my body won’t hurt me. I’m just an android after all.”
“Won’t hurt you?” Roger asked skeptically. “Then what was that little gasp there? Your reaction looked pretty genuine to me.”
“I run maintenance programs while I do the chores,” she told him. “I’m bound to make strange noises while my programs are rebooting.”
“Oh yeah?” Roger sneered. “I don’t think so. “You seemed just like a human girl when I touched you inappropriately just now.”
“I’m sure it was your imagination Roger,” she assured him. “I’m just a machine.”
“A machine?” Roger placed his hand on her dainty and easily overlooked chest. Dorothy flinched and inhaled, even though she didn’t need to breathe. Her back arched and she seemed to be stretching. “Mindless machines don’t respond to being felt up Dorothy.” He gave her breast a squeeze. “If you don’t want to be touched there, all you have to do is say so,” he said in his ‘command voice’.
“It’s all right,” she said quietly. “I really don’t mind.”
“HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?” he roared as he grabbed her arms and shook her. “Dorothy, what’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing’s wrong with me,” she said quietly. “It’s all right. It doesn’t bother me.”
“Well it bothers me!” Roger growled. “Do you let anybody touch you like that?”
“Should I let them Roger?”
“NO!” Roger shook her for emphasis. “Hell no! Don’t let anybody touch you anywhere you feel uncomfortable! It’s your body and you have the right to decide who touches it!”
“I’m not uncomfortable.”
“Yes you are,” he sneered as he let her go. “You’re trembling.”
“No I’m not.” She had him there. Now that he had stopped touching her, she was acting normally. Normally for Dorothy Wayneright at least.
Roger started rubbing her breasts again, this time with both hands. Dorothy did her best to stand perfectly still, but her head nodded almost imperceptibly with his movements. She emitted a soft whine that was very difficult to hear. “Admit it,” Roger blustered. “You’re uncomfortable.”
“I don’t mind, really,” she said weakly. Were her eyes starting to roll? Or was she just looking up at him?
Her little teenage breasts felt pretty real and her nipples were firm, but were they always that way or was she subject to arousal? Had Timothy Wayneright really made her that realistic? If so what for?
Dorothy was trying to act like nothing was happening. He had to admire her stubbornness; he only wished it wasn’t so self-abasing right now. There was nothing for it. There was one fast and sure way to settle once and for all if she was human enough to be considered a real girl.
Roger lifted her skirt and placed his hand on her panties. He tore his eyes away from her crotch to see her eyes widen and her mouth contort in distress. She didn’t blush, but that was because she couldn’t. She did let out a quiet whimper, and that was good enough for Roger.
“I thought so!” he crowed as he placed his hands on her shoulders again. “You reacted just like a human girl would! You’re real Dorothy. You’re just like a human. You deserve to be treated like a human being. Admit it: That bothered you didn’t it? You don’t like to be touched there, do you? Come on, ‘fess up: I crossed the line.”
She shuddered. “I don’t mind,” she gulped.
“Yes you do!” Roger said as he put his arms around her. “Why are you talking like that? Come on, don’t be this way. You don’t have to take this lying down!”
“It’s all right,” she said as she returned his embrace. “I don’t mind. It’s all right if you’re curious about my body. I’m different than any other girl, and if you’re lonely it makes sense to turn to a girl you can trust. It’s okay, Roger. Really. I’m fine with it.”
Despite the state of arousal Roger had gotten himself into he felt his stomach drop into his shoes. “Oh God, Dorothy, we’re going to have Norman take a look at you! Something has definitely burnt out in there and you need repairs immediately!” He let go of her and took a step back, but Dorothy held onto him. With the girl’s android strength working against him, he couldn’t get free.
“I said that it’s all right,” she said. “Really. I don’t mind. It’s okay to examine me if you want to Roger.”
“Dorothy, you aren’t just some doll for me to play with when I feel like it,” Roger grunted as he tried to free himself. “What about your feelings?”
“I don’t have any.”
“Yes you do!”
“They are merely simulations that assist with human interaction.”
Roger had a feeling what kind of human interaction was going to take place if he didn’t get free. If he told her to let go, would she? He had a feeling he knew how to get loose and he could bet money that Dorothy knew too.
He put his hands on Dorothy’s backside. The padding her creator had given her was very convincing, especially through her skirt. Dorothy buried her face in his chest and made a nearly inaudible purring sound. To Roger’s shame, he started breathing heavy too. It took all of his self-control not to start rubbing himself against her.
Roger closed his eyes and grunted weakly as he lifted her skirt and lowered his hand to her crotch. Dorothy felt pretty real down there too, but of course she was wearing panties. Dorothy’s body started rocking in rhythm to his strokes and Dorothy’s arms started to gently caress his back. He could probably get loose now, but now it was he who was hugging tight with an embrace that couldn’t be escaped. He closed his eyes and made gentle moaning sounds that were barely louder than whispers, just like she did.
What the hell? Was he detecting moisture down there? Were Dorothy’s panties getting wet? How real did Doctor Wayneright make her? Horrified, he drew his hands away and tried to break free.
“Why did you stop?” The look of distress on Dorothy’s face was subdued, but couldn’t be denied. She looked like a heroine who had been tied to the railroad tracks and had resigned herself to her fate.
“Why did I stop?” Roger gasped in a voice hoarse. “I had no business starting in the first place!”
“You don’t have to be a gentleman right now Roger,” she told him as she continued to hug him. Her arms were unyielding, but if she didn’t move, there might be enough slack to wriggle out of them. “It’s only me, and there’s no one watching. I don’t mind really.”
“Dorothy! What are you doing?” he croaked. “Let me go this instant!”
“Roger. Please,” she said in her soft quiet voice. “It’s all right. I just want to do what everyone else does. I really don’t mind. Really.”
“You don’t know what you’re saying!” he choked out. “I’m not going to treat you like an object!”
“Why not?” She asked as she pressed her cheek against his chest. “Technically, I am an object. I’m an android. I’m a just a machine. Why shouldn’t you do what you want with me?”
“Because I love you!” he gasped. Where the HELL did THAT come from? What the hell was he SAYING? Did he really love this malfunctioning lump of metal?
Dorothy gave a little gasp, but this time Roger wasn’t doing anything inappropriate. “Say that again.”
“No!”
“Roger, please,” she looked up at him as her embraced relaxed. “If you meant it, say that again. It’s very important to me.”
“I thought you weren’t important,” he smirked weakly. “Did you tell me that you’re just a machine?”
“Maybe I misspoke,” she said softly. “Please. Say that again.”
“I love you Dorothy Wayneright,” he smiled weakly as his eyes watered up.
“And I love you Roger Smith.”
“I thought machines couldn’t fall in love,” he gently smirked.
“I can fall in love,” she assured him. “I don’t know if it’s because I’m real or because I was created to love and to be loved…”
“Don’t start that again!” Roger snapped.
“Yes, you’re right,” she conceded. “Roger. Kiss me.”
“No.”
“Roger. Please. Kiss me.” Despite the calm and understated way she spoke there was something heartfelt about her plea. Roger felt himself relaxing in her arms before he leaned in and gave her a kiss on the lips.
As his lips and tongue touched hers he noticed two things. The first was that her mouth tasted like lemon scented dishwashing soap. Of course it did. What else would an android brush her teeth with? She probably used pipe cleaner to clean her throat.
The second thing he noticed was that she was kissing him back like a heroine in a romance novel. Her lips and tongue were gentle, teasing and affectionate. She didn’t smash her face against him or shove her tongue down his throat. Instead she fondled his mouth with her lips and as her tongue gently massaged his. He hadn’t meant to use his tongue at all; it was supposed to be a chaste kiss, but somehow when his lips met hers they were kissing like tender lovers who were saying everything that needed to be said without saying a word. The kiss was the most romantic, heartfelt kiss that he could remember. They weren’t smashing their faces together; it was more like their mouths were ‘slow dancing’. Her little mouth was so moist and warm; he had expected it to be cool and dry but it wasn’t like that at all.
When they parted, it wasn’t abrupt or forced. Dorothy knew exactly when he was pulling back, and released him as if they had rehearsed it. Roger panted like a dog, but Dorothy was a silent as a ghost. Of course she was. She didn’t have to breathe did she?
For moment Roger just stared stupidly at Dorothy. “That was amazing!” he gasped, his voice hoarse with passion. “Where’d you learn to kiss like that?”
The light seemed to fade from Dorothy’s eyes. The girl often had a dour look on her face, but now she seemed more depressed than usual. “It wasn’t me,” she said before she let go of him and left the room.
Roger just stared at his bed and blinked a few times. He wiped his mouth and tried to sort out what just happened. He wandered out to the parlor just outside his bedroom and sat on a couch. His tongue still tingled with the lemon taste of her mouth. He smiled ruefully.
Lemons would now have a romantic meaning for him. Her lips, her tongue, even her skin smelled and tasted faintly of lemons. Of course it did. Not only did she use lemon scented dishwashing soap to clean her mouth, but she used lemon scented furniture polish on her skin. Lemons were in everything but lemonade these days.
He leaned forward and pressed on the eyes of a sculpture that looked like a unicorn’s head that sitting on the coffee table. “Norman, I’d like some lemonade, if it’s not too much trouble.”
“Not to worry Master Roger,” the unicorn head said with a proper English accent as the eyes flashed in time to the words. “It’s no trouble at all.”
Roger exhaled and sat back on the couch as he tried to think. Okay what happened there? You just felt up a girl before the two of you confessed that you loved each other. You then shared the best kiss of your life. The two of you were in your bedroom. How did things end without anyone getting naked?
Roger sighed. He was definitely losing his touch. Against all odds, he had managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The grownup part of him told himself that it was probably a good thing. He had never deflowered a virgin before and he certainly didn’t want to break his perfect record with Dorothy Wayneright.
But was she a virgin? She was an excellent kisser. Exquisite even. Her skill with her lips and tongue made a man forget that she tasted like dishwashing soap. Her touch was so gentle, even though she had the strength to break him in two. He had only gotten a sample, but if she could make love the way she kissed Heaven wouldn’t be enough to describe where she could take a man.
He frowned. When he touched her inappropriately, she reacted. When he kissed her she knew just how to kiss him back. And when he massaged her crotch she got wet. WHY WOULD TIMOTHY WAYNERIGHT DESIGN HER LIKE THAT? Roger frowned because he didn’t like the answer. He had spent all this time assuming that she acted the way she did because she was an android. What if she acted that way because she was sexually abused by her guardian shortly after activation?
The thought made him gag, and knowing that he himself had groped her like a gorilla didn’t help things. Suddenly the bliss and longing he felt after the kiss vanished into anger and self-loathing. He wasn’t any better than Timothy Wayneright or Miguel Soldono was he? Dorothy trusted him, and he took advantage of her without hesitation.
She had told him she wanted to kiss him. Of course she did. That’s probably what she did for her last guardian wasn’t it? It was probably a conditioned response to being felt up. After her guardian feels her up, she automatically turns and asks for affection, even begs for it! If Timothy Wayneright wasn’t dead, Roger would go over to his house and strangle him! Or maybe it was Miguel Soldono who did that to her. Didn’t she say that Soldono had her constructed according to a set of blueprints? Why did he fund her construction in the first place? No wonder Dorothy was so harsh when he died. ‘You’re the one who’s my real daughter’ he said. That lecherous scumbag! What a hypocrite! If he wasn’t dead, Roger would have to kill that old bastard himself.
“Oh my,” said a tall gangly old man wearing an archaic tuxedo. His thinning white hair didn’t cover his bald pate, but he did sport a magnificent handlebar moustache. Although the black patch he wore hid his left eye a look of concern was visible in his right. “Are you feeling well Master Roger?”
How long had he been there? “I’m fine, Norman,” the young man lied bravely.
“Here you go sir,” the butler said as he handed him a cool glass of lemonade.
Roger gulped and stared at the glass of lemonade in his hand as if Norman had just handed him evidence that the young man had committed a homicide. “Uh, maybe later, Norman,” said a sweating Roger as he got up and took off his tie. “I don’t want it right now.”
“Oh,” the old valet’s blink was more of a wink.
Lunchtime was awkward. Roger sat in his chair at the dining table across from Dorothy. She looked so small and far way. He could barely concentrate on his food. “Are you okay?” he asked her when Norman went back into the kitchen to serve another course.
“I don’t know what you mean Roger,” the girl said innocently.
Roger blushed. “Dorothy, I was out of line. I shouldn’t have…”
“Norman’s coming back,” the girl interrupted. “We can discuss it later if you wish.”
“Sure,” Roger nodded gratefully before returning to meal he couldn’t taste.
After lunch he found a glass of lemonade waiting for him on a coaster on his desk next to his collection of hourglasses. He sat down in his chair and stared at it with a tormented look in his eyes. He picked it up, took a swig and closed his eyes. He imagined Dorothy’s lips and tongue playing with his. Her mouth was so moist! He didn’t want to think about what toxic chemical must keep her mouth so moist like that. He didn’t seem to be sick or anything. Perhaps it was a harmless saline solution. Her little tongue was so talented…
No! His eyes opened and he undid a locked drawer and extracted a magazine. He wasn’t going to think of Dorothy like that! He was taking advantage of a naïve android girl and he was a monster to think he could get away with it! It was time to shift his sexual focus on someone else before things went any further.
The magazine was called Gentleman, but the front cover featured a twenty year old girl in a bathing suit. The girls in the other pages wore even less. He flipped through until he found a blonde amazon who looked a lot like Angel. Perfect! Time to transfer his perverted lust from an innocent girl to a no-good femme fetale who had done everything under the sun!
He memorized the blonde’s body before leaning back in his chair and undoing his pants so he could free himself. He placed a white handkerchief around his member to protect his pants from any discharge and then closed his eyes and started rubbing. As he stroked himself he tried to imagine the blonde bombshell who interfered with his adventures, but all he could think about was what a great kisser Dorothy was.
Her little teenage breasts felt so real, and her shapely buttocks were so enticing! Her little face was so adorable when she was emotionless; let alone when she was reacting to his churlish advances. Not only that, but her crotch had actually moistened up as if preparing to receive him! Her mouth was so moist! So hot and moist! It was unbelievable!
“Oh Dorothy, I’m sorry!” he croaked as he got into it. A tear trickled out of his eye. “I’m sorry, so sorry… I swear I’ll never touch you again… I didn’t mean to…”
He wasn’t alone! Roger’s eyes snapped back open and he saw little Dorothy standing right next to him on the left side of his chair. He was grateful that her face betrayed nothing. “Dorothy! I…”
“You’re in pain,” she said. “Allow me to help.”
“Help? What do you… ah!”
Before he could react she took it in her fingers and bent over to lick the head. Her fingers stroked up and down the shaft. Roger thrashed and twitched in his chair but he couldn’t stand up!
“Dorothy! You don’t have to…!” Roger gasped. “You don’t have to do this! You don’t owe me anything! Hah!” His left hand reached out and clutched her rump. The left side wasn’t called sinister for nothing apparently. His right hand grasped her head, but it didn’t pull her away or push her forward. “Please!” he whispered. “You’re too young! You don’t deserve this! I love you and you shouldn’t…”
Now Dorothy’s lips were around the head and her entire hand was stroking him as gently as if she was polishing eggshells.
“Deep down I know you’re a nice girl,” Roger whispered hoarsely before he gave in to the painful ecstasy she was giving him. “Ah…” he moaned weakly. “Door… thee…” he whispered. His hand felt her rear through her skirt as she nursed on his manhood. She was a silent as a ghost: No gasping for breath, no slurping, and no pausing in the action of her tongue. Her head bobbed as her arm moved and that was it, not even breathing.
He shuddered and quaked as he gave up his seed. To be honest, he had gotten a head start before the girl even made an appearance but her tongue was so skillful he wondered how long he could last anyway. Dorothy responded by clamping on with her lips and sucking on him while forming a seal with both her lips and her fingers. He heard a soft gulping noise and shuddered again. Dorothy was drinking! She stayed on him until he was finished, and gently nursed on him for a few moments after that.
Roger stared weakly down at his little princess who was apparently nowhere as innocent as he thought she was. Without a word, she daintily dabbed at her mouth with a handkerchief she produced from her pocket before using the one in Roger’s lap to dry him off. She then primly folded the handkerchiefs and hid them in a pocket. Only then did she look at him. “Are you alright now?” she asked as if she had given him an aspirin.
“Uh, yeah,” he nodded before he blushed and closed his pants. His brain tried to find something to say but failed utterly. “I’m good. Thanks Dorothy.” Thanks Dorothy? I’m good? That’s awful! He cleared his throat and combed his hair as he tried to organize his thoughts, but in the meantime Dorothy left.
Where did she learn to do that? And so well? Roger had a nasty feeling he knew and it broke his heart to realize that he was just the latest one to take advantage of the poor girl. As a tear escaped him his mouth felt dry. Hating himself, he swallowed the glass of lemonade.
Later he found her out of the rooftop patio, standing on the stone railing like she often did. Now that he had a peak into her dark past, Roger had to wonder: Was she thinking of jumping? He walked over and leaned on the railing next to her, trying to ignore at what level Dorothy was too him. “Hey,” he muttered.
No answer.
“Are you okay?” he asked her.
“Don’t worry about it,” she said.
That was the last thing he wanted to hear. That was her code for: My heart is breaking but please don’t say anything while I still have a shred of dignity left.
Roger cleared his throat and stared at the street below him. Jumping looked pretty good right now. “Dorothy, I’d like to apologize for the way I acted this morning. I crossed a line I shouldn’t have, and good intentions don’t make up for…”
“You don’t need to apologize,” she said.
“No, I need to do a great deal more!” he sighed. “Dorothy I just wanted to make you stick up for yourself, I never meant for things to go the way they did, I shouldn’t have…”
“You’re not the one who’s in the wrong, Roger Smith.”
“The hell I’m not!” Roger growled. “I molested a helpless girl and I deserve to be arrested!”
“You molested an android,” she corrected, “and I’m not exactly helpless.”
“Abuse can be mental as well as physical Dorothy,” he scolded. “The mental abuse can be even worse, but the physical abuse is the red flag that lets you know it’s happening. If I ever want to earn your trust I’m going to have to go to counseling or something…”
“You didn’t betray my trust.”
“Of course I did,” Roger growled. “Dorothy, no matter what Soldono or Wayneright told you, you’re under no obligation to any of us humans and have a right to your own feelings. When I touched you I crossed the line from guardian to criminal. I…”
“I’m guilty too.”
“No,” he shook his head. “You’re not. I’ve seen it a hundred times while working for the military police. The victim always blames herself. For some reason they always feel ashamed like they’re the ones who are in the wrong, but the blame lies in the aggressor, Dorothy. You shouldn’t blame yourself for…”
“I made you do it,” she interrupted.
“No,” he shook his head sadly. “You didn’t. I know it seems that way but there is no one to blame but me. As an android, you don’t have a reproductive drive.”
“That’s where you’re wrong Roger.”
“What?”
“I am capable of harboring such desires,” she told him. “Unlike you, I can decide whether or not to let them affect me.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Roger, what I’m about to tell you I’ve told no one else, but I suspect that Norman knows. Do you promise not to mention it to anyone?”
“Sure Dorothy,” he chuckled in relief. “That’s the least I can do.”
Making a decision, Dorothy hopped off the wall and stood next to him. “Roger, when my father was designing me, he went through several prototypes.”
“Yeah, I know,” Roger grunted when he thought of Red Destiny and the fembot who attacked him at Timothy Wayneright’s house.
“He wanted to create an android that would feel like a human if he hugged or kissed her,” she explained. “He also wanted her to be able to express emotions just like a real girl would.”
“I know he wanted you to be realistic but he went a little overboard don’t you think?” Roger muttered. “I mean, you wet your panties…”
“Please Roger, this is hard enough to say as it is,” she said.
“I’m sorry Dorothy,” he nodded ruefully. “Go ahead. Continue.”
“No matter what kind of skill he had at robotics, he still needed a model to go off of,” she explained. “Since the event that erased everyone’s Memories, there hasn’t been the technology to design a mechanical girl from scratch.”
“So where did he find the model then?”
“In his research into the world that existed forty years ago, he discovered that mankind built androids that looked exactly like human girls.”
“Exactly like human girls?” Roger repeated. “What for?”
Dorothy gave him a blank look.
Roger had a pained look when realization hit him. “Oh! Dorothy, that’s aweful!”
“Yes,” she agreed. “It was all there. An android that would feel like a real girl and be capable of expressing emotions, especially those specializing in affection. The perfect model for a doting daughter. Do your remember seeing me with my father Roger? It was that evening at the Nightengale.”
“Yeah,” Roger nodded as he recalled that evening. “You had body language and facial expression and everything. You cowered when I confronted you, laughed at your father’s joke, displayed uncertainty at his suggestion that you sing in front of a crowd and smiled radiantly when you actually did so.”
“Yes,” she nodded. “Currently my spontaneous reactions are a bit ‘specialized’ but with practice we hoped that I would develop reactions that would allow spontaneous expression that didn’t involve intimacies in any way.”
“I don’t understand,” Roger shook his head. “I’ve seen you get upset. If all you could feel is affection, why did you express fear when we encountered the skeletal megadeus under the city when we found Schwartzwald?”
“First I am perfectly capable of feeling a wide range of emotions Roger,” she corrected. “My problem lies in expressing them. Secondly, the android girls of the past were built for intimacies, all kinds of intimacies. Even the forbidden ones. They may not have been able to cry, but they could whine and scream.”
“That’s horrible!” Roger shuddered. “Poor Timothy Wayneright! To think he had to use technology designed for such a foul purpose to build a marvel like you!”
“He was a scientist,” she explained. “He got over it.”
“How are you taking it?” Roger asked.
“Some days, not very well,” Dorothy admitted. “I guess it’s like finding out something shameful about your parents. If Timothy Wayneright was my father, I suppose a hooker-bot was my mother.”
“Oh, Dorothy,” Roger groaned. “Don’t talk like that.”
“Now you know why I said that my talented kissing wasn’t really me,” she continued. “Microfilament sensors lace my skin including my lips and tongue. When I kissed you, it activated subroutines that allowed me to respond in a way that would give both of us the most pleasure.”
“In other words, your mouth is talented, not skilled,” Roger blushed. “That’s a relief. I thought you had been abused as a child.”
“Actually I have,” she confirmed. “I was kidnapped multiple times and my father was murdered right before my eyes. If I was a human I suppose I would be considered ‘damaged goods.’”
“You’re not damaged goods Dorothy,” Roger said as he hugged her warmly. “You’re a strong girl who’s been forced to grow up quickly.” He pulled her away and looked at her sternly. “But I think you’re growing up a little too fast if you catch my drift.”
“Thank you Roger,” she said. “I know that.”
“So what’s with that ‘I’m only an android’ nonsense you’ve been spouting lately?” he asked her. “You don’t really believe that stuff do you?”
“Sometimes,” she admitted. “When I’m feeling depressed. But most of the time I know it’s not true.” She wrinkled her forehead in an attempt to look contrite. “I’m sorry Roger. Sometimes I get that way, but for the last few days I’ve been acting like that to see if you’d notice. I just wanted to get a reaction out of you.”
“You got reaction out me all right!” he grunted as he shook his head.
“Yes,” she said, “and I’m sorry if I put you on the spot like that. I shouldn’t have done it. I apologize.”
“Why did you keep it up when I was groping you?” Roger asked her. “I mean, wasn’t it degrading?”
“Yes, but I liked the attention.” The servos in her neck could be heard as she looked away and also when she looked back at him. “Are you angry with me Roger?” she asked quietly.
“Yeah, but right now I’m too relieved!” he chuckled. “So you liked the attention, huh? I guess that will teach me to stop ignoring you.”
“Yes, I can feel pleasure as well as pain,” she explained. “As a matter of fact, I have concentrations of sensors in where a human would have her erogenous zones. They’re specialized for stimulation if you know what I mean.”
“Yeah,” Roger blushed. “I guess I see where you’re going with it.” He scratched his head and coughed. “Uh… do you react that way when anybody touches you that way?”
“I can feel it but I can choose whether or not I want to respond,” she assured him. “Usually I give no indication that I felt anything, but when you touched me, I relaxed my behavioral protocols.”
“Why?”
“I wanted to see what would happen.”
“And?”
“You kept touching me,” she said. “It made me feel alive.”
“My pleasure Dorothy,” Roger blushed some more.
“No it wasn’t,” she corrected. “You felt horribly guilty.”
“I did,” he nodded. “I thought I was lower than pond scum. Uh, what was that business in my office if I could be so bold? I don’t recall touching you then.”
“You were touching yourself,” she said, “and saying my name. I thought it would be a chance to make up for what I did earlier, but it turns out it only made things worse. I’m sorry for embarrassing you Roger.”
“I’m sorry, you thought you had to… do that, Dorothy,” he shuddered. “That must have been nasty to put in your mouth.”
“Actually it wasn’t,” she assured him. “I really can’t smell or taste anything, but my pleasure indicators reacted to my actions. Besides, part of me enjoyed seeing the effect on you.”
“‘Part of you’ did huh?” he repeated skeptically.
“I guess a lot of me did,” she admitted. “More than felt ashamed at the time at least. I guess I liked being in control.”
“You were in control all right,” Roger grumbled jokingly. “I was helpless. Where’d you learn to do that anyway? You handled yourself—well I mean you handled me—like a pro.”
“It wasn’t me, it was my program,” she apologized. “I have subroutines for intimacies even though as an android I can’t reproduce that way. It’s like the way you have wisdom teeth or an appendix. They’re vestigial functions that I picked up from my ancestors you could say.” She looked away from him and back out into the city. “It was exhilarating at the time, but now I’m embarrassed. My actions were disgraceful, but I can’t take credit for what I did, just the blame. When I feel that way, I can allow my body to respond on its own.”
Roger put his hands in his pockets and looked down at her shoes. “Dorothy, if it helps, the human body acts on its own too when it gets that way sometimes.”
“Yes, I couldn’t help noticing,” she said as she faced him again. “At least I can choose whether I let it take over or not. How do you control it?”
“It can be hard sometimes,” Roger shrugged. “If a man doesn’t learn to control it, he can end up in jail. But no matter what, it’s his choice. No matter how he feels it’s his choice what he does with those feelings.”
“Yes, for men it can be very… hard,” she commented dryly.
“You’re asking for it,” Roger grimaced. “I feel better but I still feel like a heel for taking the liberties I did. I’d like to make it up to you Dorothy.”
“That’s because for humans the man is always the aggressor,” Dorothy explained. “Since the man has greater physical strength, the guilt belongs to him. In my case it doesn’t apply. I am much stronger than you Roger, and in this case I think the greater amount of blame lies with me.”
“Let’s not turn this into a pity party,” Roger shook his head. “Let’s just say that we were both wrong and leave it at that.”
“Yes, but at the same time we were both right,” she said demurely. “You said that you couldn’t treat me like an object because you love me. Did you mean it Roger? Do you love me?”
Roger moaned and looked at her shoes as he scratched the back of his head. Finally he looked into her eyes and smiled weakly. “Yeah. I do. I can’t help feeling ashamed of myself though. You’re kind of young for me.”
“I love you Roger,” she told him. “If it helps, I forgive you. I wanted a reaction out of you and I got it.”
“And I almost gave it to you!” he shuddered. “I uh, know I shouldn’t ask this, but would it be okay to kiss you again?”
“You don’t have to ask, as long as you behave yourself,” she assured him.
They embraced but when their mouths met Roger jerked back. “Ow!” he backed away clutching his mouth. “That hurts! Dorothy, what happened?”
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I wanted to kiss you myself this time, and not let my program do it for me. I ended up fighting my automatic responses and spoiling it.”
“Um Dorothy,” Roger cleared his throat while he held his top lip. “When you’re kissing, it’s uh, okay to stop overthinking it and just go with the moment, you know? You don’t have to be ashamed of your natural ability.”
“Says you,” Dorothy said. “I don’t want you to be kissed by the fembots who came before me. I want to give you my own kiss, not that of my no-good mother.”
“You needn’t be ashamed of what your momma gave you,” Roger teased.
“I thought I was created with ‘technology designed for a foul purpose’ Roger,” she argued passionlessly.
“The androids made in the past were blameless Dorothy; the wrong lies in creating sentient beings for the purpose of exploiting them,” Roger explained. “I know our records only go back forty years, but there are plenty of human girls who’ve been treated the exact same way. There’s nothing shameful in being female, the shame lies with the men who treat women as objects, and none of you are objects,” he said as he kissed her on the forehead. “Not even the mechanical ones,” he added.
“Thank you Roger,” she said. “That was quite a speech, but I know that you mean it,” she said as they embraced. “Roger?” she asked in a softer tone. “Do I feel like a human girl, or just a mannequin?”
“Don’t worry Dorothy,” he assured her. “I’ve hugged plenty of skinny girls in my time. You aren’t that different.”
“Roger, I know that I have the ability, but deep down I’m kind of ashamed of my body,” she said quietly. “I’m not sure I’m ready to reveal it to you yet.”
“That’s okay,” he murmured in her ear. “The human body is just as bad. In any case you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.”
“What if you want to?” she asked him. “I love you Roger. I don’t want to deny you just because I’m uncomfortable with my android body.”
“Don’t worry about me,” he blushed as he cradled her in his arms. “I love you for who you are Dorothy, and love doesn’t ask anyone to do anything they’re not ready for. When you’re ready, I’ll be ready too.”
“You are such a gentleman Roger Smith.”
