Choosing all three
The Pokemon Doctor
Ch. 1 choosing all three
The morning air was crisp on Steve's face as he walked to professor Juniper's lab. It was finally the day he had been waiting for he wound be getting his first pokemon today.
'Hm which pokemon do I want as my starter? Lets see there is Snivy who is an awesome grass pokemon, then there is Tepig a fire type that would scorch all challengers and lastly there is oshawott, a great water type, which one to choose" thought Steve as he walked to the professor's lab. Looking up from his thoughts he notices he has made it to the lab and braces himself for one of the most important decisions he has ever made in his life.
"Welcome to professor Juniper's pokemon lab how may we help you?" Says the receptionist.
"Ah yes my name is Steve Tren and I'm here to get my first pokemon," answers Steve nervously.
"Oh well please wait one moment and I will get the professor for you."
Steve waits patiently as the receptionist informs the professor of his arrival all the while internally debating which starter to choose.
"Ah Steve glad you could make it have you decided which starter you wish to choose?" Asks the professor Juniper as she enters the room.
"Not really they all are perfect it's hard to choose just one." Thinking for a minute Steve thinks of a question that has never been answered for him and decides to ask the professor.
"Professor Juniper why is it that trainers have to choose just one pokemon to start off with, is there a way to start off with more than one pokemon say all three of your home regions starter pokemon" asks Steve.
"Hmmm most people never think to ask that question but to be truthful it all comes down to tradition. You see since people could remember they have always started off with just one starter pokemon. The pokemon leagues when they were started made it a rule that all starter pokemon had to be the same level and of one of three types grass, water, and fire. There is no rule against starting your journey with more than one starter but there is a test you must pass to be able to choose more than one with a second test in order to take all three," answered the professor.
"What are the test professor?"
"The first one is a knowledge test on the basic pokemon care with the second test being a battle two random pokemon and will be selected one you will use to battle against one of my assistants who will be using the other pokemon."
"In that case professor I will take both test so I can start off with all three of Unova region starter pokemon."
"In that case we will begin your first test now. Tell me what would you give your pokemon if poisoned?"
"An antidote or a full heal."
"How much hp does a super potion heal?"
"Fifty hp."
"What would you give your pokemon to raise its attack while in a battle?"
"X-attack"
"Last question, what does rare candy do?"
"Raises your pokemon one level."
"Congratulations you have passed your first test all you need to do is beat one of my assistants in a pokemon battle and you will be allowed to start with all three starter pokemon. Now here are six pokeballs please pick two one for you and one for your opponent," said the professor.
Steve chose the second pokeball to the right for himself and the first pokeball on the left for his opponent and was led outside to a battle arena.
"This will be an one on one pokemon battle to both contestants will go until one pokemon cannot battle anymore with me being the judge. Please release your pokemon from the pokeballs the battle will begin with Steve's first attack," said professor Juniper.
"Come on out" said Steve as he released his pokemon which turned out to be an emolga. Steve looked to his opponent and noticed they had released a maractus.
'Hm gonna have to use emolga's flying type moves to win this on because its electric type moves would not be as effective against a grass type like maractus' thought Steve internally getting his battle plan ready.
"Emolga use quick attack" shouted Steve.
"Dodge and use pedal dance maractus"
"Use double team then follow it up with quick attack combined with aerial ace to counter attack emolga"
Emolga followed Steve's order perfectly resulting in a critical hit knocking out maractus.
"Maractus is unable to battle meaning emolga is the winner this match goes to Steve," said the professor after checking to make sure maractus was out.
"Well Steve that means you get to to take three starter pokemon on your journey. Here are their pokeballs along with five free empty pokeballs, a pokedex, and a town map. Good luck on your journey and contact the lab if you need anything while on your journey," said professor Juniper.
"Thank you professor have.a nice day," said Steve.
Steve left feeling great he had gotten all three starter pokemon to take on his journey, his mom was going to be so surprised.....
'Wait I forgot to tell mom I am going on a pokemon journey, oh this is gonna be an interesting conversation' thought Steve realizing he made a big mistake.
