Kyoya walked down the hall of Ouran Academy. The only sound in the empty hall was that of his carefully polished uniform shoes as he made his way towards the third music room. His day had been the usual. Attended classes, peppered by the bizarre ramblings of Tamaki, tried to use lunch to get some work done, but again, there had been to much Tamaki to do so. Little seemed out of the ordinary. In fact, he could predict everything that was happening that day. This pleased him greatly, Kyoya enjoyed being one step ahead of everything.
Upon reaching the third music room he pushed open the door, everything seemed to be in order, having been cleaned overnight by the schools impression collection of custodial staff. While the other students may not have given much consideration to them, he had of course made sure he knew their names at least, just in case someone happened to be out of place one day when the Host Club arrived. So far, it had not been necessary to take action against any of them. Which was good in his opinion, as he would have hated to have to ask Tamaki to speak to his father, given his blond friend’s odd love of commoners.
He set his bag on a table and removed his laptop, it was well taken care of, and despite how often he used it, the keys had been replaced enough so that none of them faded. He set the compact machine down on the table and settled in a chair before it. A few clicks, and he was in the file he needed, his figures quickly dancing across the letters and numbers in a pattern he was all too familiar with. He paused only a moment to consider a quick thought before his fingers deftly moved once more. He had only a few brief moments when the quiet was not invaded by his friends.
Though today, it would seem, despite his carefully measured schedule, he was going to be interrupted much earlier then he would have liked. As while he focused on his work a guest arrived, far too early to be a regular customer, much to his chagrin. But perhaps a new student. So he lifted his eyes from his computer and stood with his usual careful grace as he turned his eyes on her.
A girl in the canary yellow uniform of the school; stood in front of the doors of the third music room. Immaculately prepared, with not a single wrinkle or inch of fabric out of place, even the shoes that sat on her feet looked as if they were barely walked in that very day. Dark brown eyes looked right at him, curious, but confident. She had guts to do so with a stranger. Her long black hair pulled up into a tight bun at the nape of her neck. A few strategically chosen strands of hair hung just in front of her ears, down to frame her sharp featured face in a slight curl, high cheekbones, clear skin, she was likely considered a lovely young woman, or would have been if she had relaxed a little more. As she gave off a strict air, a tense and slightly uncomfortable aura. She reached up with her right hand and tucked a strand of hair behind her right ear. And then slipped into a bow in greeting. How, formal. Was the first thing that came to mind for Kyoya.
His eyes remained locked on the sudden arrival for only a moment as he took all this in. Ah yes, he knew who she was now. He had not expected the new girl to be a guest so soon. It was still half an hour or so before the other hosts would even start to arrive. So it seemed Kyoya would have to deal with this himself. Well at least he could figure out what she wanted now and get it out of the way. Perhaps place her with the proper host, come club hours. He returned the bow and almost instantly he had his host smile plastered onto his face. He reached out and shut his laptop, confidential club business was never to be risked, and the thumb print lock light blinked once to tell him it was in working order. With that he made his way over to her, his long strides not taking long to close to distance.
“Yamazaki-hime, you are welcome, but I am sorry to say that the host club is not open for another hour at least.” His voice was warm, carefully measured to the point he had decided girls seemed to enjoy the most, cool and calm. He went over what he knew in his mind, Yamazaki Nami, sixteen years old, same class as himself and Tamaki, though she kept to herself it seemed. She’d made a few friends, likely due to her family's business. A computer company. Useful enough connection, but her family did not do business with his, so he’d felt no need to actually introduce himself.
The young woman smiled. “Otori-sama, A pleasure.” Of course she knew who he was, they were in the same class. “Yes I am well aware of the clubs hours but I wanted to meet you personally before your attention could be diverted by others.” Her voice was low, carefully spoken to make it so one would have to focus to hear her calm words, but not strain themselves. So she had practice at this.
Kyoya was not shocked by the admittance, more so slightly annoyed that she was wasting his time. Aside from a handful of nearly psychotic fangirls, mainly Renge, not many girls went out of they're way before club hours. Most would have considered it rude. Or only made themselves known to make some sort of declaration of affection, and when politely turned down, they tended to just go back to how things were before. It was hard to imagine someone who had only arrived in the school that week doing such. But his face never faltered and he never showed any sign of his thoughts. He took her hand in his and lifted it to his lips, briefly brushing his lips just over her knuckles before motioning for her to take a seat. Sometimes, it was good to just smile. Who knows, a computer company could be useful at some point.
“Well,” Kyoya began. “I am sure you wanted to do more then just met me if you came here before hours.” He ventured. Interrupting the few moments of Tamaki-free peace he had for getting things done. Of course those words never got past the filter of his mind to his mouth. Instead he said. “Most do not bother to come without an appointment.” Perhaps this was his way of gently explaining to the young woman she should plan ahead if she wanted meetings. He might have to play damage control for this unscheduled meeting, gossip often flew around any high school. Even one as well bred as Ouran.
Nami continued to smile pleasantly at him. Well at least she seemed brave. “My curiosity got the better of me. That odd girl, Renge-chan, she would not stop talking about you. And given I recalled you from class, I thought it would be nice to say hello.” Of course she remembered him from class, he was sure she remembered everyone of note, it was how the children of businessmen were raised.
Kyoya pulled a chair out for her, and once she was seated he took his place across the table from her. Picking up his laptop and securing it in his bag before turning his full attention on her once more. “Curiosity can be a powerful thing. Though most of the girls in this school would have waited for club hours.” His tone remained gentle, but he really did wish he could push her to the point of this visit. Or just out of the room entirely so he could finish working.
“As I told you Otori-sama, I was interested and wished to have you undivided attention for my first visit. You are a particularly popular young man, even if you manage to downplay it more than your peers.” Kyoya watched her , managing to keep his smile, though he was beginning to grow annoyed.. She simply came because she wanted to avoid competition. Classic obsessive fangirl.
Kyoya opened his mouth to speak a number of questions and comments he wanted to add coming to mind but before he could the door opened and Tamaki walked into the room. Having burst in with his usual colorful personality the blond host king had to reel himself in quickly and came to a slow pause when he saw the girl. He looked at his watch and was instantly relieved that he had not somehow lost track of time. And so he made his way to Kyoya and the girl, bringing her small hand to his lips much as his friend had earlier, ending of course, in an overly flowery bow.
“Good afternoon dear princess.” He said in his kingly manner as he looked up at her from his bow. “What brings you here so early?” The princely host asked as he rose to his full height and let go of her hand. Nami stared at the blond a few moments, despite what the girls in class had said, and what she had seen of him in class, she had not been prepared for how quickly he seemed to suck up all the energy in the room, only to explode it back out at who he spoke to. And had she been any other type of woman she most likely would have melted just staring at this colorful blond. But she schooled her features from the surprised expression she was positive she must have worn and returned the smile.
“Oh simply sating my curiosity.” The young woman said as she let her hands fall back to her lap.
Tamaki was just a bit surprised by her open response, but he did not show it perhaps she was not a fan of the King, hard to believe but he had to respect a young woman’s choice. In fact he simply said. “Well I do hope you will enjoy your time here. Will we see you during club hours?” If she was a fan then he was sure they would, but he would not have been surprised if she had only come because of a crush on Kyoya. It was common enough. And she had come out of her way to see him.
With his words, she lifted her right wrist and pushed the carefully folded cuff up slight to check a dainty silver watch that rested on her wrist. “Yes, you will see me later.” The young woman said as she climbed to her feet. Kyoya climbed to his, a simply polite thing to do when a woman was leaving. And Tamaki offered her another bow as she moved towards the door, pausing as she reached for it, seeming to hesitate over some manner or another before she simply gave the two a smile and exited.
When the door was shut, Tamaki turned his attention to Kyoya and asked. “Do you have a new friend mother?” His affectionate nickname for his friend sounding out the king's usual silly mood had not been damped by the arrival of a new face. Though after a time he found he had to ask. “She's not like..Renge is she?” The blond asked a bit of nervousness in his voice as he peered from side to side, expecting the insane manager to roll up out of the ground on her pedestal simply because he said her name. No such thing happened, but you could never be careful when Renge was involved.
Kyoya was already readjusting his laptop onto the desk once more. He opened it and did not bother to look at Tamaki while the questions were posed. “So it would seem.” He said answering his friends first question. Though when the question of Renge popped up he quickly added. “Well she certainly does not seem so delusional. So no, I think this is just a simple crush.” He assured his blond friend.
With his eyes back on his computer screen, and his interrupted work, he did not bother to look at Tamaki as he continued rapidly typing away. “So it would seem.” Was all he had to saw on the topic. It was not odd or out of the ordinary for him. And with his silence, Tamaki began to go on as he normally did, rambling out ideas, and Kyoya would take quiet note of the ones he thought could be useful.
Soon enough the time for club activities had come. And after securing his belongings, Kyoya moved to join the other hosts in their positions. So as the doors opened, any of the guests who visited would be greeted the group of them, smiling, and ever so pleased to welcome them.
Nami had arrived. Calm as she had been before. Though now she seemed more distracted discussing things with the other girls then paying much attention to the hosts. What they were discussing quietly as they entered the music room as anyone's guess. Though the fact that she spoke to Renge was in and of itself likely an affirmation of Tamaki and his own ideas earlier. He had another fan. Hopefully, not an insane one this time.
So when he was approached by the two of them, requesting him for the day, he was only mildly surprised. “But Renge, if your our manager is this fair?” A nearby Tamaki asked. “You see more of us then most of the girls.” He offered but this did not seem to phase Renge.
The odd young woman simply let out a loud laugh as she often did before pointing at Tamaki in an overly dramatic way. “Even your amazing and lovely manager needs to enjoy herself from time to time!” Though to anyone near by it would have been clear she enjoyed herself most days.
Of course, despite Kyoya being slightly busier than usual, nothing odd came of that afternoon. He simply had another fan, perhaps he simply attracted the odd ones.
