Rogues and Coffee
“Trancy. Get your hands out of your pants and throw a fucking grenade.”
“Fuck off Phantomhive. I gotcha.” An explosion.
“Will you two stop flirting already?” The deep smoker-obvious voice belonging to Bard. He sounds bored by this usual occurrence.
Both previous voices say, “Gross.”
A female voice joins in. “Come on. We all know Ciel has a crush on his favorite barista.”
Phantomhive, or Ciel, grunts. “I do not have a crush, Mei Rin. I just enjoy the view.”
Three voices respond, “Uh-huh. Right.”
The view being a tall raven-haired man that should definitely be a model instead of working at a café. His name is Sebastian and not only eye candy but also very polite, so that’s a bonus. Every day before classes, Ciel goes to this café called ‘Hellishly Good’ and gets a coffee and a morning sweet. And every day, without fail, this sexy man takes his order. Sebastian sometimes gives deals on something if it seems like Ciel is a bit ruffled. Ciel has asked if it could get the man in trouble, but Sebastian merely said he knows the owner.
Ciel Phantomhive and Alois Trancy are in college. Alois for fashion, specializing mainly club clothes. Ciel for business, in hopes to take over the family company one day. They stay in different dorms and have different classes. But one day Ciel’s internet had been spotty. So, he’d gone to the café off campus in order to play his favorite online shooting game, Shoot To Kill. After a few minutes of playing a blond kid sat next to him.
“You’re doing Shoot To Kill. Goin solo or lookin for a team? Been trying to build one up and our class times seem similar.”
Ciel frowned. “Should I find it creepy that you know that?” He fully faced the annoying guy. “And who are you?”
“I’m Alois Trancy. I’m majoring in fashion design. And I know it simply because I see you around campus when I’m out too, so I figure our schedules are similar.” He rolled his eyes. “I’m not stalking you or anything. Anyway, you wanna join up?”
And that was that. They made a team together in Shoot To Kill and then one week later gained Bard and Mei Rin.
Mei Rin suddenly speaks up. “Ciel. Don’t you have class soon?”
A smirk can literally be heard in Alois’ voice. “If you don’t hurry you can’t see Sebastian.”
Ciel curses. “Good luck guys.” He logs off and grabs his bag, glad he decided to get ready before starting the game. He pauses in front of the mirror for a few moments to make sure he’s put together. His blue-grey locks are controlled and his clothes not too wrinkled. The shirt is a dark blue with a few black swirl designs on the left side. His pants were flattering but not intense.
Both were presents from Alois. The boy learned that he could con Ciel into being his model for all the project clothes he needs to design. Just promise him a bunch of candy and he’s good to go. This also means that Ciel has some nice, and interesting, clothes. He can’t get rid of them because Alois put so much work into them. But the club clothes he made? He doesn’t see himself wearing them anytime soon.
Alois has actually mentioned that he should consider modeling. Apparently he has an almost ‘doll-like’ figure. Whatever that means. But he appreciates the compliment. The blond once in a while tries to get him to go to a club that is supposedly ‘the shit’. The attempts all fail as Ciel has no desire to be in a cramped noisy stinky building only to get a migraine as he is ogled by creeps. Yeah. No thanks.
He quickly races out the door, locking it before going down the stairs and out of the dorm building. Alois is in the dorm two buildings down.
Ciel runs through campus and to the coffee shop right outside the college gates. He pauses outside the shop to take a few breaths. He better not have an asthma attack right then. That would be so embarrassing. He makes sure his clothes are straight before he goes in. As usual he sees the beautiful man standing behind the counter.
The raven looks up and smiles at Ciel. Which makes a shiver go down the college student’s spine. How can a simple smile be so sexy?! Ciel quickly gets control of himself before he starts blushing or something and walks over. “Hello Sebastian.”
Sebastian nods. “Good morning Ciel. You must be in a hurry.” He looks at the clock. “Your class is soon.”
Ciel doesn’t find it creepy that the barista knows his schedule. He comes in here so often and at the same times that it is rather obvious. Ciel also tends to get more chatty than usual around the raven. He doesn’t know why but doesn’t really care either. “Yeah. Got caught up in Shoot To Kill. We were on a roll.” He’s told Sebastian about the game and his team. He doesn’t actually know if Sebastian is interested by it but the man always listens anyway.
Sebastian chuckles and begins making Ciel’s usual coffee. “Go ahead and pick a pastry.” He doesn’t talk much, preferring to listen and make small comments. Ciel enjoys it because otherwise it would be like they’re friends. And that would be way too weird with how Ciel feels.
The bluenette smiles with a nod and goes to the display. There are quite a few selections today that look particularly amazing. He really hopes he isn’t blushing.
“That outfit seems new. From Alois?”
Ciel glances up before down at himself. “Oh. Yeah. He was trying out a new technique. That’s why it’s less flashy.” He makes a slight grimace at the reminder of a few of those outfits.
Sebastian chuckles, setting the finished coffee down. “Not flashy. Unique.”
Ciel rolls his eyes and stands up. “Sure. That’s one word for it.” He looks at the display again. “That chocolate cream filled croissant.”
The raven gets it and wraps it up before setting it next to the coffee. “$15.72.”
Ciel raises a brow even as he gets out his wallet. “Giving me a discount again? I swear you’re going to get in trouble for that and I won’t bail you out.” His lips twitch into a teasing smirk.
Sebastian gives another chuckle. This one a bit lower and causing Ciel to shiver. “Aw. You have caught me once again. Though this time it is a true discount. The coffee you usually order gives you a free pastry today.” He points to the notice on the board.
Ciel is unable to hide his blush this time. “Oh. Right. Sorry.” He quickly pulls out the money and puts it down.
Sebastian puts it in the register and gives him his receipt. “Good luck on your test today.”
Ciel nods and takes his coffee and treat. “Thanks. See ya.” He quickly races out and back onto campus.

“Did he say if he liked it though?”
“Bomb on your left Alois.”
“Thanks Mei Rin.” An explosion as Alois just barely gets out of the way. “So Ciel. Did he?”
Ciel sighs. “He said it is unique. Good enough for you?” He quickly shoots some enemies. “Almost finished.”
Alois cheers loudly through the headset making them all wince. “Hell yeah! That’s what I’m going for and that was the lamest of my designs.”
Bard grunts. “Guys. Focus here.” Somehow he has managed to get a flamethrower in the game and he quickly starts it up to roast the last of the guys coming at him.
“How did you even get that?”
“Well Ciel. When you’re as amazing as I am, you learn a thing or two.”
Three voices say, “You hacked.”
Bard laughs. “That too.”
The VICTORY sign comes up and they all cheer.
“I’m going to get a drink guys.” Ciel stands up and after a quick stretch he heads to the fridge. Just as he’s reaching in to get a soda he hears Alois start calling his name. He quickly rushes back to the computer to see they are suddenly being ambushed by high level douchebags. “Fuck!”
The next few minutes contain lots of shooting and fighting. It’s starting to look like they aren’t going to make it when rivals start dropping.
“Did you shoot him Mei Rin?” Alois sounds impressed by the shot.
“No. Thought it was Ciel.”
Ciel quickly moves his view around until it lands on a certain rogue. “It’s him guys. He’s helping us again.” He smirks and watches the rogue join in the battle. With the extra help they once again come out on top.
VICTORY
Alois cheers excitedly. “Look at all this loot and XP!”
“You guys gotta get him on the team. He’s amazing.” Bard’s definitely right about that. Their team would be amazing with him.
“I’ll shoot off a message. Alois has class right now, right?” Since Alois and he are the admins it makes sense one of them does it.
“Fuck. See ya.” With that Alois quickly logs off.
Ciel clicks the message button next to the rogue.
Bitter4Life: “Hey. Thanks for the help. Think you want to join?”
ShadowDemon: “No thank you. I wish to remain single.”
Ciel frowns. “Fuck that man. You’re joining us.”
Bitter4Life: “At least join our voice chat and hang for a bit. One of our guys just left.”
A few moments of silence before,
ShadowDemon: “I will join your chat but my mic will not be on. Is that okay?”
The boy sighs. He’d wished for more but he’ll have to settle it seems.
Bitter4Life: “Sounds good. Here’s the link.”
He quickly sends link to group chat. As soon as the name appears in it he begins introductions. “So the one who left is SpiderKing, aka Spider.” He has realized that they’ll need to use nicknames at first. Safety first after all.
Mei Rin joined in. “You can call me Maid and FireCook is Chef.” Mei Rin’s username is CleaningUp.
ShadowDemon: “You may call me Shadow. And what shall I call you Bitter4Life?”
With an annoyed voice Ciel replies, “Pup.”
ShadowDemon: “Why is it ‘Pup’ instead of ‘Bitter’ or something?”
“Because Spider said it once. Saw it annoyed me. And now he won’t stop saying it.”
Bard chuckles. “He’ll be so happy he has a real reason to use it now.”
ShadowDemon: “You and Spider know each other outside the game?”
“Yeah. He came to me to start this group.” Ciel gets up once he realizes that he never grabbed his drink. He goes to the fridge once more and grabs what he wants.
“Thanks for all the help you’ve been giving us, Shadow.”
ShadowDemon: “Of course, Maid. Now, shall we go hunt?”
Ciel grins and comes back to the computer. “Definitely.” He opens the soda, takes a large sip, then gets back into it. “Shall we? Sounds like something Sebastian would say.”
-o-
Next day Ciel curses. The internet in the dorm is out but he really needs to do some research for a project. It’s one of the three days in the week he has no classes. After a bit of thought he puts his laptop in his bag and heads out to Hellishly Good. When he gets there he notices Sebastian isn’t at the counter. He ignores the slight disappointment and quickly picks a table before setting up his computer. Good thing they have free wifi here available to all.
After about an hour he closes it and decides to get some coffee before going back. He needs to do reading for another class and he’d left the book in the dorm. When he looks up he sees a wonderful surprise. Sebastian is at the counter again. He smiles and puts his stuff in his bag before going over. “Hey. My internet went out but I had research for a project to do.”
Sebastian nods with a smile. “I figured. Would you like your usual before you leave?”
Ciel gives a quick nod. “Yes. I have more work to do and I need to stay awake for it.” He watches Sebastian start to make it. Deciding to fill in the silence he says, “So you know that rogue I mentioned from Shoot To Kill?”
“Yes.”
“Well he joined our chat yesterday and while he’s not a member of the team he does help out with us. He won’t use his microphone though.” His voice shows that he’s slightly annoyed by that.
Sebastian merely chuckles. “Well some people are hesitant about that.” He brings over the coffee and sets it in front of Ciel. “$15.72.”
Ciel hands it over and takes his order and receipt. “Thanks.”
“Of course, Pup.”
The bluenette frowns, a bit distracted as he takes a sip. “Seriously?”
Sebastian chuckles, voice just a tiny bit teasing. All in good nature of course. “Sorry. I had to. Guess Alois was correct that you don’t like it.”
This causes Ciel to pause and look up. “How did you know that?” He doesn’t remember mentioning that bit of information.
But Sebastian raises brow and says, “You told me it.” He gives a soft smile. “You tell me quite a lot of things Ciel. And I do in fact remember them.”
Ciel blushes. “C-Cool...I gotta go.” He quickly leaves the café before he can embarrass himself. “He remembers them?” He can feel the blush spread more.
-o-
“Ciel. Come on man. You’re getting wasted. I can’t keep healing you.”
Ciel sighs. “Sorry Alois.”
“Sorry? What’s wrong? And don’t say nothing because something has to be wrong for you not to be snarky.” Alois will probably deny the bit of worry in his voice.
Ciel wants to be annoyed but just can’t right then. Maybe that really does mean he’s distracted.
Mei Rin pipes up, “Come on Ciel. You can tell us. We need a quick break anyway.”
Ciel chews his lip for a second before he finally spills. “Look. I talked to Sebastian yesterday and he said something that I don’t even remember saying. And then he had to go and say that he remembers what I say. I mean seriously! He remembers what I just spew out even when I myself don’t remember saying it. I just don’t get it.” He didn’t mean to say that much but he just can’t keep it inside anymore.
“Oh? Well maybe he feels something for you too.”
Ciel simply grunts. “Yeah right, Trancy.”
Mei Rin giggles. “Well, it would make sense why he’s always there when you are.”
“He works there. Of course he’ll be there.” Ciel frowns as he senses Alois about to say something. “He better not be trying…”
Alois hums softly. “True I suppose. But this new bit of information hints towards something else.” His voice gives away his attempts to be sneaky, though.
“Stop trying to set me up with people Trancy.” Ciel will not deny the growl in his voice. Every time!
“But you want this one!” He doesn’t even deny he does try it. Though they all know the truth so it would be pointless.
“I don’t care. Stop it.” Ciel doesn’t need the help of the energetic blond. He can handle his own crush on his own. Oh fuck…a crush…he has a crush on Sebastian. His eyes widen and he blushes. “Look guys. I think I’m going to log off. I’m not feeling it right now.”
Mei Rin’s smile can be heard. “Okay Ciel. Take care.”
“See you tomorrow then.” Bard had been quiet during it but obviously still listening.
Alois’ voice was surprisingly soft and actually caring. “Don’t overthink this Phantomhive. Just relax.”
Ciel rolls his eyes. “Whatever.” He logs off and stands up. “I don’t overthink things. I merely analyze and plan.”
So, what is his plan for dealing with Sebastian?
