Haru lay on the bed and touched a hand to his bruised lips. They were indeed slightly swollen. So it wasn’t a dream, he thought, looking to his side. Saki lay beside him, her eyes closed and lips parted, moisture still clung to them.

Haru took a deep breath as he felt himself begin to stir again. Not wanting to wake her, he rolled over and placed his forehead against the cool wall, trying to calm himself. Instead he began to replay the events that had transpired, leaving him nude in Saki’s bed.

Haru walked out of the class room. He wasn’t feeling all that well today, and to tell the truth he just wanted to go home. He decided he would stay though, because lunch was his favorite time of the day. Sometimes it hurt to look however, at Tohru and Yuki. They were always smiling together. It was nice in a way, to see Yuki so relaxed, and happy. Haru knew that he would always love Yuki in some way, just as he would always need to breathe, but he knew at least when he was white, he knew, Tohru made Yuki happy. To Haru that was really all that mattered.

“Hatsuharu-kun.” Came the quiet voice behind him. Haru realized he was staring out the window at Yuki, Tohru and the others. He turned around, and came face to face with Hanajima. “It’s not polite to stare.”

Haru nodded, and noticed that she was looking past his shoulder.

“I could say the same thing.” He said in return. Saki looked up, and gave him a small smile.

“Well, should we join them?” she asked, it was not really a question, but a statement as she walked away. Haru watched her for a moment before following. She was what he would call a mystery. This Hanajima Saki.

Saki felt a weird wave coming from Haru. She supposed it was something like interest. She looked down to hide her tiny smile. Exactly the reaction she’d hoped for. Hatsuharu had caught her attention sometime the week before. Sure, she’d seen him around, and he often talked with the prince and Tohru, but she remembered something he’d said.
At first it hadn’t seemed important, but it stuck with her. Tohru and Yuki had been talking about ancient Egypt after a particularly interesting history class. Somehow they’d gotten onto the subject of curses.

“I don’t believe in curses.” Said Haru quietly. Yuki and Kyou stared at him. He shrugged.

Saki was snapped back to the present as they arrived at their destination and Tohru shouted a welcome.

Hana rolled over in her sleep, and tried to snuggle closer to Haru. She groaned in frustration as her back made contact with the cool wall. Her eyes slowly slid open. For a moment she worried that he was gone, but the gentle hand on her cheek reassured her.

“Haru...” she whispered as he rubbed his thumb against the milky skin his hand rested against. She felt warmth course through her, different from the heat earlier. This warmth was different. It was more and yet less. It was more loving and less raw passion. She hadn’t yet decided which she preferred.

Haru leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers, his tongue taking its slow sweet time. Teasing her thoroughly before sliding between her lips for a leisurely duel with her own.
Haru sighed into her mouth and felt better than he had in a long time. He knew a small part of his heart belonged to his first love, Yuki; however, the rest of it was completely in Hanajima Saki’s hands. He pulled back, and looked into her dark eyes, seeing the same emotion he knew was in his own.

“I love you Saki.” He breathed. She felt her heart melt at the words.

“I love you too.” She whispered. Haru hadn’t been at all what she’d expected. He was something better, something indescribably him, and just as indescribably hers.

Haru sat on the bench in front of the school. It had been a few days since the incident with Hanajima. He felt his eyes stray to where she stood with Tohru and the blonde girl. Uotani was it? He watched as she smiled. Her grim expression replaced with an actual smile. The first one he’d seen her give. She was really cute when she did that.

Haru was startled out of his brief trip into voyeurism when Momiji jumped onto the bench beside him.

“Ne, Haru..” began the Usagi “Who are you looking at?” Momiji looked in the direction and saw the three familiar girls. He gasped and covered his mouth with a hand.

“Ha-Haru.. you don’t like Tohru do you??” he questioned.

Haru laughed at the question. Was he in love with the girl who had become his rival? Sure he liked her as a friend. Anyone but Tohru he could despise. He wanted to despise her, but somehow couldn’t.

“Ie. Sorry to disappoint you Momiji, I was watching Hanajima.” He answered. Momiji felt his eyes widen... The creepy one? Haru liked the creepy one? Momiji smiled again.

“Okay!!” He said cheerily before bounding off in their direction. Haru closed his eyes as the Usagi promptly whispered something in Hanajima’s ear. Haru glared at the little blonde boy as Hanajima approached.

“Hi” she said quietly in greeting. “Can I sit?”

Haru nodded, watching as she tucked her skirt beneath her as she sat down.

“Momiji-kun said you wanted to ask me something.” She was giving him a puzzled look. Well, you wouldn’t know she was puzzled unless you were looking closely and he was.

“He did?” Now Haru gave Momiji his most terrifying glare. He faintly heard the word “Kowaii!” and saw Momiji hide behind Tohru. He turned back to Hanajima.

“I just wanted to talk.” He said.

Hanajima nodded. “About the Prince?” she asked.

“Sort of.” Haru was glad she’d given him a topic, because he’d definitely been floundering. He waited for Hanajima to say something, but when that failed, he spoke again.

“I tried to hate her you know.” He said, his eyes locked onto Tohru who was smiling down at Momiji.

“Why don’t you?” asked Hanajima, who knew the answer better than anyone else.

“I can’t. Who could hate someone who doesn’t even know she’s doing it. She didn’t even realize Yuki’s feelings. She didn’t know what she was doing to me. How could I hate her, when she tried so hard to be my friend?” He paused. “She’s always like that isn’t she? She wants to be friends even if you push her away.”

The corners of Hanajima’s lips tugged, and she looked away.

“Yes, she is. I remember a girl who had no friends, everyone was scared. You see she had this power to hurt people; she could make them sick if she wanted too. Tohru tried to be her friend, but the girl didn’t want to hurt her by accident. She pushed Tohru away. She told her to leave her alone. Yet… Yet every time, Tohru came back, and she smiled. The girl couldn’t keep pushing her away, so she became Tohru’s friend and protector. One day though, something happened. Someone else started to take care of her. He loved her, so he protected her. The girl felt sad and angry. She really wanted to hate that someone. He was taking her friend. She couldn’t though. That friend’s happiness meant more to the girl. She wanted her friend to always be happy. Even if that meant she would have to stop being so close to her.”

Haru looked up at her, he’d been watching Tohru as she spoke, but the soft emotion in her voice caused him to look up. He could see tears shining in her eyes. Not really tears, but what would be tears if she allowed them to be. Suddenly, more than anything Haru wanted to see emotion in those eyes. He wanted to see her smile, laugh, cry, anything.

Hanajima felt the waves roll off him. He wanted something from her. His waves were weird however, and she couldn’t exactly read them.

“So we both know how it feels.” He said hollowly. “To lose someone.”

“Not lost.” She reminded him. “They will always be our friends, even if they have each other. They need us in some ways.”

Haru nodded and smiled briefly at her.

“Thanks Hanajima-san.” He said. Hana looked up at him, as though her own name startled her.

“Saki…” she said. “You can call me Saki.”

He blinked.

“Hai. Saki-san.” With those words he stood up and walked away, leaving Saki to stare after him.

*******************************************************************************

Saki groaned and arched into Haru’s touch. His lips sliding along the underside of her breast before dipping lower. He pressed open mouth kisses along the smooth skin of her stomach, blazing his trail south. He slid his hand down past his lips to slide along the wet skin that awaited his touch. She shuddered as his finger grazed the sensitive spot he had found earlier. He could hardly control himself, but he wanted this to last. He wanted to explore her body, memorize it. He wanted to engrave everything into his mind. He wanted to show her how much he felt for her.

********************************************************************************

Saki sat on the same bench Haru had sat just a few days before. She remembered their conversation. She wondered why she had told him what she had. What was this strange attraction to one of the Sohma’s? Why was she feeling like this? She hadn’t planned on this feeling. She simply wanted to understand Hatsuharu. She was startled out of her thoughts by a loud banging. When she looked up a rather angry Haru was storming away from the school. The emotion she had been feeling clawed at her, and she quickly walked after him.

Haru slows hes he reached the playground about a block from the school. He slammed his fist against the side of the jungle gym. Not even feeling pain as his fist broke cleanly through the metal. Someone had made fun of his hair again. Didn’t they know already? Not to fucking mention his goddamn hair? He heard footsteps behind him and whirled around to face his enemy. Not an enemy. It was Saki. He smirked at her. She must have seen him leave and followed him. She might like him more than he’d thought.

“Saki-chan.” He said, walking swiftly towards her, and closing the gap between them.

“Ha—Hatsuharu-kun?” she asked. She could hardly believe that this was the Hatsuharu she’d been speaking to.

He closed the distance completely, their hips were pressed together and her back was against a tree. He leaned away from her and watched her expression. Her cheeks turned a subtle shade of red. Haru chuckled.

“Uncomfortable?” he asked. “What’s the matter Saki-chan? Don’t you like me?”

“I—Hatsuharu-k--” she began but was cut off by his lips crushing her own for a quick moment before he pulled back.

“Stop calling me that.” He growled. “Hatsuharu-kun” he imitated her voice. “say Haru.”

Hanajima looked up at him, and decided to play along for now.

“Hai.” She answered “Haru.”

Haru smirked again. He leaned down and pressed another harsh kiss onto her. His tongue forcing its way into her mouth. He managed to coax her into dancing with him. Haru pulled back just as Saki moaned softly into his mouth. His hand moved from where it had been, pinning her hips to the tree, and roughly slid to her chest. He reached for her breast. Saki gasp as he squeezed. Pain shooting through her.

“Stop.” She whispered. Haru smiled down at her.

“You weren’t telling me to stop a moment ago. What’s wrong Saki-chan? Don’t like this?” Haru leaned down again and pressed a kiss to the tops of her breasts.

Saki pushed hard, and sent just enough waves at him to shock him.

Haru hit the ground with a thud and lay stunned for a moment. Saki watched, almost frozen to the tree, waiting for him to stand up, offer her an explanation. She saw that the arm of her sleeve was ripped; he must’ve grabbed her arm at one point. She tried to piece together what was happening. She touched a hand to her bruised lips. That had definitely not been how she imagined her first kiss.

Haru slowly got to his feet. His eyes were slightly confused. He looked up at Saki who was still standing backed into the tree. His eyes swept over her, and he saw the ripped cloth.

“Saki-san?” he asked, quiet fear in his voice. “Did… Did I hurt you?” he watched as she struggled with what to say. He knew instantly he had done something terrible.

“What… what happened to you?” she asked “Why don’t you remember what happened a few seconds ago?”

Haru stepped towards her, but she backed a little farther into the tree. Haru covered his face with a hand, taking a breath to steady himself. He looked down and decided he should explain what he guessed had happened. Judging by her swollen lips, he’d assaulted her.
