My god.

Three days, that's how long (short?) this took me. I spotted the link in your sig from a comment you left on Serria's deviantart account, and her glowing recommendation brought me here. At first a few grammatical errors in early chapters threw me off, but I found myself very, very quickly hooked.

The characterization is purely stunning, both on a canonical level (in terms of L and Light's essential identities and personalities) and a very original level (development of the secondary characters, and further elaboration on Light and L under stressful and expanded situations). Honestly, I never liked Mello, and I just don't understand the appeal of a character like Matt who hasn't really got much of a role to begin with, but both of them filled such essential and compelling roles in this. I am only disappointed that the actual chemistry between the two of them wasn't conveyed much. Largely I got the sense they were drifting, and it would have been nice to see some closure for them at the end, even if ultimately some meaningful demonstration of their strengthened relationship, or something of the sort. The only character I couldn't really find myself liking was Linda, whose role felt a bit unnecessary. It seems as though she could have made a bit more impact as Kira's psychologist, essentially, but in the end she just wasn't terribly useful or interesting at any point. A bit too timid and overwhelmed; maybe she'll grow out of it.

The sex scenes were just ridiculously, unbelievably hot, especially between Mello and Light - a pairing I've rarely even seen before, much less considered seriously, yet here it essentially stole the spotlight for me. I've primarily been a fan of L/Kira as a pairing, but I think this story has convinced me that it's really just Kira in a submissive role in general that I'm fond of, because the scenes with Mello just about blew me away. Their gradually developing relationship was plausible under the circumstances, and very well executed. I was hooked from the moment Mello stepped into Light's room at the very beginning.

And let's not forget the actual plot. Frankly, the majority of stories in this fandom aren't terribly original, despite largely being remarkably well-written. This story is a notable exception in that department, and in the best way possible. The premise was strong enough to support the remainder, and the storyline as a whole felt fantastically true to the general atmosphere of canon, right down to the constant mindfuckery between each of the perceived rivals, right down to the newly developed rivalries between characters that didn't really have such relationships. I loved seeing each of the characters grow suspicious of each other's intentions and analyze the hell out of the ongoing events, especially when Misa showed up and Light masterminded his entire scheme. I wasn't sure what to expect of him in the end, beyond the obvious (Bella's death), so his role as well as Misa's presence had me guessing for a while there.

I certainly didn't expect the ending, either, but I hadn't really had a good sense of how the situation would play out. I think I expected a thorough tragedy, with Light and L both dying, or a cheesy sort of happily-ever-after, and compromises are a tricky thing with this pair, aren't they? They can't really have a happy ending, and there are only so many options. Personally, I am completely into Light-as-Kira and I wouldn't have him any other way, so I had mixed feelings regarding his effective resignation from the role. I think I can deal with it, primarily because he didn't seem to lose his memories (bit hard for me to work out why that is at 6am, not having really immersed myself in the Death Note universe in a bit over a year now, but I can't bring myself to care because I like the outcome too much). I think the resulting angst in his struggle to deal with who he is and what he's lost to justify his gain makes for a compelling and realistic internal conflict. I haven't yet started the sequel, but I very much hope this will be addressed, rather than being lost to the passage of time.

Also: excellent hook with the final line. Fit in very neatly, with the original line a chapter or so beforehand, and it just about sums things up. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing story; I will head for the sequel as soon as real life allows.

I totally loved this fanfic- although the grade of English was very high and I had problems with it sometime. But you're really amazing writers! ^^

I made an account just to review this story. I don't have the words to say how much awe I was in reading this. The writing is magnificent, professional and always enjoyable. The plot is incredibly engaging. I'm not a very emotional reader, but at the chapter when L "kills" Light, and at the end, I was in tears... The characters were so complete, each had his own psychology, motives and thought process. They certainly felt "in character", but in a way not quite like the manga.. I mean that in an explainable way. Your story takes place post-manga, and it seems some of the characters are tired, maybe wiser, like L and to an extent, comparatively, Mello. Then some of the characters are also believably struggling with their own sanity and control, hurting, and lost - like Light and Misa. All of the sex was so well-placed... I never felt as though I was reading porn, I felt as though I was reading sex that was always relevant to the emotions, developments and plot of the characters and story. I cannot believe that I've been in this fandom for so long and not found this fanfiction. And I also cannot say how overjoyed I was that you had it complete in advance, and when I thought my head would explode from suspense, the next day you'd add a handful more long, fantastic chapters. Thanks so much for this amazing story. I glanced at your profile, and it says there's a sequel coming..? Best of luck and happy writing!

I have to say, this story is utterly amazing. I hate that these stories can't be sold for profit, because you could make a fortune from this. I just can't believe how good it is. I laughed, cried, and just fucking loved it! I bow to you. This is, quite possibly, the most enjoyable and well written fan-fic I have ever read. THIS should have been the ending to the original story, whether it included the love between the characters or not. Thank you for writing this, seriously. You deserve great praise for this story. Words cannot express.

Well, things sure have changed since the last time!

Last time I reviewed (eh... not counting that little note) Raito had just returned from death. You know, I thought for a while that the Death Note piece in him plus the syringe injections had made Light a semi-zombie. Clearly, that didn't happen. Too bad. I had already decided how he would look, (with wings and all :D)when you updated and squashed my hope! Damn you!!11!!!1!!!!

    Just kidding... >_>

Light seems to get more and more talented at getting new people, sympathetic to his cause or at least willing to help him. His acting abilities never fail to amaze me. L or somebody should hack into the Oscar Academy Awards program and hand Light an award. And of course Raito is also getting better at infuriating Matt, can't forget that tiny fact. The evil part in me can't help but rejoice in that. Btw, thanks for L's further explaining his and Light's relationship. Mello's and Raito's meanwhile relationship is getting more and more complicated, obviously a fact that is also killing Matt a little inside (lol).

I don‘t know what to think of that Raito was supposedly adopted and should have gone to the Whammy‘s house. For now I‘m just going to wait and see. From what I‘ve seen of the story so far I guess it is going to be important to the plot and in particular B. Since I‘m talking about B, I‘d like to mention that that thing with B and Misa was very well written. Not only did she manage slip into the mansion without detection but also scare L. Her changed manners, sudden intellectual increase and little things like how she breaths makes one truly wonder if she is or isn‘t possessed by B. These facts plus the title of the sequel make me think that it is the former. Aside from Kira himself and maybe L, B is the most interesting character in DN-world.

Another thing that I would like to congratulate you guys on is how Raito handled SPK. Haha... it is wrong to say so, but to me it was the highlight of the last few chapters. Raito and Misa/B have teamed up together and are on loose again, with L and co. close behind. It was refreshing to find that Kira was back into the game. His plotting ways are always the most interesting part of the story. Ok, I lied again. The chapter where Kira escapes was actually my favorite (or did the SPK massacre happen in the same chapter?). It is awesome that Kira and B have banded together. The world two greatest killers.

Near is still somewhere out there but seems like that he will have to lay low awhile. Considering his character he is sure to strike back with vengeance, sooner or later. Bella is now confirmed as the one behind Kira's recent heart attack and is apparently not as much an idealist as she appeared to be in the beginning. Lol, hopefully Raito decided to take a few more lessons from B before taking down Bella.

Well can‘t wait to see how things are going to turn out.

Just a little over a week and wow...

You've outdone yourself. I haven't read the chapters thoroughly so I'll post an acutal review later, but I have to say that the last one was my favorite of them all. :D

Btw, I decided to nominate this story on RHC.

Wohoo, three new chapters! Awesome, you guys are spoiling us. Ok, here is the highlights of my thoughts while reading the last three chapters.

So it was Matt after all.

    Somebody is jealous.

How can L be so indifferent to Raito's affair?

Raito is as awesome as always. Cool.

Hah! Linda, your'e finished. Once Kira is interested in you...

You know, this scene (Linda is going to kiss Raito) is awfully familiar. Well, one more strike for Kira.

    Damn it... Matt.

WHAT, did Matt sell Raito out? I so, my opinion of him goes steadily further down.

YAY, Kira got the eyes! Hah, I dare certain person to punch him again. (and aww... Mello saved Raito)

    Raito is DEAD!

    L KILLED him! Backstabbing scumbag!

God damn it, Matt is such a bastard... grr... how can Mello tolerate him?

The doctor is evil. This is a funeral after all.

No, wait. Kira is not dead!

    Long version:

These chapters where great! I kind of thought that it was Matt who looked into the room while Mello and Raito were *cough* busy but I wasn't sure then. Linda's opinion of Raito must be terrible since she sees how his actions are affecting one of her closest person and she seems -indeed- rather angry.

Kind of strange how indifferent L is to Raito's affair. Yeah, sure it is understandable that L want's to clear his head a bit, something that he cannot do with Raito constantly around him. But is he so confident in their relationship that he is willing, well... dump him on Mello, doing who knows what (actually we know XD)? Wasn't he just few days ago so depressed because of their affair? Why the sudden turn about? Though, I will give you that this is L so who knows how his mind works.

Raito's response to Linda very rational and convincing. In fact, it made - in my eyes - Mello and Raito's relationship much deeper than it was before. Raito's speech about justice was the same as what he told Mello. For a while I thought that Linda was really going to kiss him like Mello did. At that moment I thought that Kira gained one more point but at the same time, it was kind of disappointing how predicting and repetitive that was. Imanige my surprise when Matt suddenly appeared. Totally didn't see that coming and this also made me so curious what Raito next action was going to be. The new plot twist also made the chapter another "win".

What Raito realized at the end of his and Matt's conversation (conversation sounds way too polite), that somebody within must have had betrayed him to SPK, was major. That that somebody was most likely Matt, I was struck speechless. I mean... what kind of bastard does that! There was a remote possibility that this was all just Raito's speculate, but L refused to show Raito his information! The way how he worded his answer meant that L had something to hide, that also meant that Raito's theory was way more probable than before. Shit. Matt is a bastard! Q.e.d. That was my conclusion.

Then Raito gained the eyes. That was terrific! But... but... he had to die because of that! That doctor was such an near sighted scoundrel. In Raito's funeral, all he could mourn was L approaching death. Yeah, that was sad... but this was Raito's funeral! The doctor became my nr. 2 most disliked character, right after Matt in the story.

But... Raito is not dead! Huh... YAY!

Thank you for the quick uploading.

This review should be prefaced with the fact I am not a fan of Mello. However, this is one of the most logically and well thought fanfictions I have ever read ( and I have read a lot). I read all 34 chapters in one sitting. Yes, I am a complete insomniac.

o.m.g... This has got to be the single greatest story I have read here. I have spent the last 3 days practically glued to my screen. Honestly, if this was on sale I would buy it in a second, for no other reason than so that I could read it over again. Reading this, it doesn't feel like a fan fiction, but a rather true continuation of the story. Everything is just so probable.

I can't wait for the next chapter.
