Love the story! I love stories where Light becomes a Shinigami. I'm glad that L, Mello, and Matt are back. I hated how L died. I wonder how L will react to being back and Light being a Shinigami now.

At first I thought someone had stolen the idea... *is quite good at reading FFs without looking at the author*
Your second attempt is so very much better!
I like the idea even if I'm not quite sure about that L Light pairing as the Death Note rules say "no sex for shinigami" but he seems to be special anyway.
I'd suggest you to not write any "author comments" into the text of the story as it is always disturbing the text a bit.
I really like the thoughts of Near and his confessions to the graves. The whole chapter earns so much with these new parts. ^^
I hope I am not mistakeable... my english is still rusting thogh I do read very much of it T^T
