Golden Heart
Mu sat quietly on his temple steps, sighing
heavily as he finally took his place, guarding the Aires temple. Returning to
Sanctuary weighed on his mind, his life pivoting as he embraced his Sainthood,
his destiny. It had been a long time since he wore his gold cloth, but it still
fit perfectly, malleable and forming to his body.
There were many things about Sanctuary that he
adored, and many he despised. Mu could feel his favorite thing of all
approaching his temple, the radiant cosmos lulling him into memories of long
ago. He stood, preparing to greet his guest, amused that he was slightly
nervous, even though he had already seen him upon returning to Sanctuary.
“Mu.” His name wafted into his ears like a
soft song. That voice melted him every time.
“Shaka.” Mu noticed he had been holding his
breath, releasing it as he addressed the Virgo Saint who was walking toward
him.
“It is nice to have you back.” Shaka bowed
slightly, the compliment rolling off his tongue like honey.
“Thank you. It is good to be back.” Mu bowed
in response, stepping closer to his long time friend.
“Is it? I cannot tell with you Mu. You are
blocking your feelings from me. Why?” Shaka always got to the point, a trait
Mu appreciated unless it was directed toward him when he was attempting to keep
his private thoughts to himself. That was not the case now, Mu was not even
aware he was blocking Shaka out.
“I’m sorry. That is not my intent.”
“Something troubles you Mu, what is it?”
“I am just not used to being here yet, perhaps
that is all that bothers me.” Mu was still unsure of the issue himself.
“You would rather be in Tibet?”
Shaka’stiontion of Tibet caused Mu to warm up,
that is where it had happened.
“It was my home for many years, I do miss it,
but I know my duties here and accept them without reserve.”
Shaka smiled lightly, dressed in his gold cloth
he looked magnificent. His long blond hair hung like golden strands of honey
around him, accenting the glow of the armor. The helmet on his head made his
eyes bigger, framing his delicate face.
“Mu—do you remember?” Shaka spoke so low, it was almost a whisper.
Mu tensed up, hoping he was referring the same
situation that played over and over again in his own head. Taking a moment to
focus in on Shaka’s thoughts, Mu confirmed they were thinking of the same thing,
receiving a vivid image that sent shivers down his spine.
“Yes. I remember.” Mu locked eyes with Shaka
and they stared at each other for a long, quiet moment.
“I think of it often. Do you?” Shaka moved
even closer, stopping inches away from Mu.
“Yes. Every day.” Mu answered, flustered
beyond belief that they were standing so close.
“Come then.” Shaka extended his hand and Mu
took it, letting the Virgo Saint guide him. As their fingers made contact, Mu
felt a flutter in his stomach.
It had been a long time since they touched and
even this simple contact energized Mu as theadeeaded for the private chambers
under the Aires Temple. Even in his anxious state, Mu could tell Shaka was just
as nervous as he was, sensing it from the blond who made no attempt to hide it
from him.
When they reached the bottom of the narrow
stairs, Shaka dropped his hand and shuffled silently to the middle of the room.
It was only a small place. The bedroom incorporated everything; the kitchen and
lounging area with a largeble ble fireplace. There were two closets and a
bathroom, a tiny living space for such an immense temple.
Shaka removed his helmet and Mu followed,
leaving both their lengthy manes loose around them. Mu’s lavender hair accented
his n eyn eyes, and a wide rosy blush complimented his hair.
“I’ve waited for you to come to Sanctuary for
so long.”
Mu’s heart was laden with guilt. It had been a
promise he made to Shaka; that he would come and take his rightful place as a
Gold Saint, but he never had. He had broken his promise, for good reasons, but
nonetheless, not kept his word. It was not like him to go back on a promise,
but after learning of the disruption in Sanctuary with the new Pope, Mu knew he
could not pledge his allegiance as a Saint. He had reservations about
everything, until Athena made her presence known, then it all became clear.
“Forgive me. I should have come.” Mu and
Shaka stood a few feet apart, just holding each other’s gaze.
“I know why you didn’t—and that I understand….” Shaka started, but then
hesitated.
“But?”
“But, I needed you here. I wanted you here.”
Shaka sounded sad, obviously pained by Mu’s absence.
Mu moved forward to his long time friend,
placing a hand on either shoulder, feeling the warm metal of Shaka’s cloth
against his palms.
“I wanted to be here, with you. I just
couldn’t.”
“You’re here now, that is what matters.”
“Yes, I’m here. And I intend to stay.”
Shaka released a held breath, having been
concerned about Mu’s intentions since he had not been able to read him very
well.
“Nothing has changed about the way I feel.”
Shaka said suddenly, shifting gears.
Mu really felt his heart flutter this time. It
was as he hoped, still harboring the same feelings from their last rendezvous.
“Nothing has changed for me either. But, can
we allow that to happen here? What will the others think?” Mu was used to
living alone in a practically unreachable location, not amongst a group of his
colleagues.
“We won’t be the only ones. Aquarius and
Scorpio were common knowledge.”
“Until Camus…” Mu stopped himself as he
thought of the recently fallen Saint.
“Milo has been quite sullen.”
“As would I, if anything happened to you.” Mu
looked into Shaka’s blue eyes, absorbing the soft energy he radiated.
“Don’t make me wait any longer.” Shaka
whispered, arching his neck and face toward Mu.
“I won’t.” Mu met him, brushing their lips
together gently.
