“Ready to go?”
Yuki and I were going to meet Hiro. I turned from the bathroom mirror. Yuki was all dressed up. “Hey! We\'re just going to see my brother. No need to…”
“I want to make a good impression.”
“Hey, he\'s already on our side.”
“Just the same...”
We arrived at the coffee shop exactly at noon, hand-in-hand. Imagine how surprised we were to see not only Hiro, but my mother, Sakano, and K as well! I hugged everyone as if I hadn\'t seen them in months, and immediately a conversation was started. From the random babble I gathered that my father had calmed down considerably, and though he wouldn\'t come himself, he\'d agreed to allow the rest of the family to visit Yuki and me--- for the first time, in my mother\'s case.
“And....Suguru?”
They all avoided my eyes, and finally Hiro mumbled something I didn\'t quite catch, but the general idea as more then clear.
During this whole time, Yuki had patiently waited, but now I turned around and took his hand almost shyly, pulling him into the spotlight.
“Everyone, you remember Yuki,” I sad, speaking his name with pride that filled my very heart. “Yuki…this is my mother.”
“Pleasure to meet you, How are you all doing?” he said formally and to add more respect, bowing.
My mother looked at him appraisingly, biting her lip. at last she turned to me, and though her smile seemed a little forced, she managed, “He\'s very…handsome, Shuichi.”
A grin quickly spread across both our faces as I wrapped my arm Yuki\'s waist. I kissed his cheek to test for a reaction, but everyone seemed fairly comfortable with it, so I slung my arm around his shoulders as we all sat down for drinks. It was a joyous occasion, and we were all in high spirits. We talked about the weather, the city sights, told stories and made jokes…but eventually the topic turned back to the relationship between Yuki and myself.
“Where will you guys be having the ceremony?” Hiro asked evenly.
I looked at Yuki.
“We haven\'t talked bout it yet, really,” he answered for me. “We\'ll probably do it at my house. The backyard\'s big enough, and there\'s plenty of privacy.”
“You\'ll be able to make it, won\'t you?” I appealed to my Mother.
Her eyes shifted from mine to Yuki\'s and back again. “We\'ll all be there.” She promised.
Yuki and I climbed into a Transport together, happier then, when we first met, I think. As the beam lit up, I dropped my luggage Hiro had returned to me, and grabbed Yuki to me hard, locking my mouth to his. Something exploded in my brain, and after the transfer had finished, we some how ended up on the floor of it.
I could hardly keep my hands off him the whole way home, and we never did make it the bed, we got lost somewhere in between the hallway and the door. I wanted to thank him—for being such a darling to my family, and for being his charming self, and for loving me—in the best way. I tasted every inch of his body; he touched the deepest parts of me. We lay for a long time together, completely content with just holding each other. Lying on our sides, he rubbed my back, his nails slightly scratching my skin. I nibbled on his shoulder, neck and ear, whispering silly little nothings about how tasty he was. He chuckled, kissing the sweat off my forehead. The kiss turned into a lick, his nails digging deeper into my flesh as his hands trailed lower and lower along my back. We held each other tightly, trying to get closer so every part of our bodies was touching. We wanted to be one with each other, and for a while let the rest of the world slip away.
Days flew by and turned into weeks, which were swallowed up by two months of planning and preparation. It all went by so quickly in a way, but I was getting anxious for THE day. I was so nervous that last week, I knew either this whole thing would fall into place, or fall into pieces. Yuki was no help at all---the poor thing was just as jittery as me----except at night, when we could b alone and release our fears. That last week, however, was particularly stressful, and even he struggled to stay calm.
“Are you okay?” I asked him one night, as he laid naked, shivering, in my arms. He tried to laugh, but instead just clung to me desperately. “I---I\'m scared.” (A/N: yes even the all great Yuki become scared)
“Me too.”
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“Yes.” No hesitation on my end; I pushed him back a little. “Are you?”
He nodded quickly. “It\'s all happened so fast, that\'s all. But---I\'m not sorry. The sooner we get this show started, the faster we can really being our lives together!”
I leered at him. “Starting with the honeymoon!” I tickled his ribs jokingly, and he playfully slapped my hands away.
“You make every night like a honeymoon!” he cried.
“Then we\'ll have to make it every day, too.”
We both relaxed after that, falling into our usual routine of sweet, passionate love-making, and curling up into each other\'s arm for sleep.
It was the day before the wedding. All the invitations had been sent, and Yuki and I were heading to the house for lunch after looking at the gorgeous decorations in the huge backyard. We were shocked to find Tohma waiting for us on the steps.
He handed Yuki a bouquet of flowers and bowed to me. Yuki glared at him stonily “What are you doing here?” he asked though gritted teeth.
Tohma started at the ground. His hands were trembling, and his voice shook as he said, “I hadn\'t realized until now just how serious you two are. But—wow. You\'re really going to do it.” he seemed to be talking to himself.
“That doesn\'t explain why you\'re here.”
“I…I came to apologize—to both of you. I—I made a mistake…no” he said, then stopped to swallow. He licked his lips nervously before beginning again, and this time looked Yuki in the eye. “I\'ve made a lot of mistakes, and I treated you terribly. I know I\'ve got no right to ask for forgiveness, and I can see there\'s no way you\'d ever come back to me now…I\'m sorry for ditching you the way I did, and cheating on you…and lying to you.” He turned to me. “I\'m sorry for the way I…attacked you, and ruined your engagement party…That\'s all. I just wanted to apologize to both of you—face to face.” He took a slow breath. “And, I wanted to ask…I mean, would it be okay if…I came?”
He seemed so sincere. I looked over at Yuki and saw that he was as touched as I. Forgiveness was shining in his eyes; I knew then that love could heal anything…I hoped.
At least he was cautious. Yuki shook Tohma\'s hand like a friend, rather than, to my deep relief, throwing his arms around him in total reconciliation. They shook, smiling at each other. Tohma ran his hand through his hair before reaching to shake mine. I shook it warily, but if Yuki could forgive him, then so could I. He walked away, looking back at once to wave before going on to the gate.
The way he looked at me before heading to the gate, made my spine shiver. The look in his eyes scared me. It wasn\'t a friendly gaze at all; it was more like an evil gaze.
Yuki and I looked at each other. His eyes still held a look of surprise. His expression softened as his eyes flickered from my eyes to my mouth and back. He took me in his arms for one of the most romantic kisses he\'d ever given me, and I knew everything wall all right. I dropped the subject of Tohma\'s evil eyes; maybe it was part of my imagination.
At last the moment had arrived. Yuki and I, in our white suits, stood behind a curtain, holding hands but too shy to look at each other. We heard various friends and relatives chattering away excitedly.
Yuki\'s hand was cold. I could feel his slender body trembling next to mine. I was just as scared as he was, but I didn\'t want him to know, so I squeezed his hand tightly and asked calmly, “Are you ready?”
He drew in a shaky breath. “Yes”
We heard the music being {Yuki\'s dad had promised to hire a live band to do the ceremony and reception afterwards} ---a glorious blend of electric guitars, drums and keyboards---and the talking ceased. The white curtains opened in front of us.
“That\'s our cute,” I muttered under my breath. Hands clasped, Yuki and I began walking forward along the red carpet spread across the lawn, heads held high and looking straight ahead at eh gazebo where we would exchange our vows. Ahead I saw Yuki\'s parents, arms linked to the right. To the left, I saw my mother and ---
“Shuichi…..” Yuki whispered in surprise. “..Your father…”
He was there. He was standing right next to my mother, his hand wound tightly around hers. Mother was grinning at me happily; my father was smiling apologetically. Behind our parents, both Yuki\'s brothers, and my bothers stood in their tuxes, all of them looking handsome as our best men. Mika was on the opposite side of them, mainly because she was our bride of honor. Hiro and Sakano could always catch anyone\'s eye, but the one I was looking at now was Suguru. He was there--- he was actually there!
We reached the minister and Yuki released my hand, turning to face me. But I was still staring at my brother.
Suguru\'s face was bright crimson as he mumbled, “Stop staring at me like that, Shuichi! You\'re suppose to face Yuki!”
I grinned widely, casting my look at my father. He smiled, and nodded. I gave a small nod back, then at last turned to my love. His eyes were shining just as brightly as mine.
The music came to an end, and I looked to the band gratefully…and met yet another shock. Somehow Yuki\'s father had gotten Nittle Graspers to play for our wedding!
The minister began the ceremony. Yuki and I lit the sacred fires of our candles, said our vows, and the world acknowledged our union. When it came time for the kiss…
Yuki and I took each other\'s hands. I glanced around quickly, searching for approval. Various unknown relatives and friends of our two families waited anxiously, on the edge of their seats; the band waiting patiently for the cute to begin the final song before the reception; Tohma standing in the back, smiling. I wasn\'t sure if the smile was a happy smile or evil smile, but I quickly assumed it was a happy smile. All our parents were smiling and I saw something I had never dared hoped for—acceptance. There was no more rage, anger, hurt, disbelief…even in my father\'s eyes. There was acceptance, and joy. As I looked at each of our brothers, I saw that even in Suguru\'s eyes were brimming with happiness.
I turned back to Yuki, and our eyes sparkled at each other. We leaned forward, closing our eyes and parting our lips to seal the kiss of eternity, and at the moment I knew that everything had falling into place. We broke the kiss slowly {it was probably the most romantic one we\'ve ever shared} and in the instant before the music exploded and we were catapulted with rice, I leaned my head on my love\'s shoulder and whispered, “Now you\'ve got to show me exactly what you do with those strawberries.”
We smiled at each other, and the party began. Yuki and I had really rewritten the book with this one. In light of that, I think the only way to end this magical fairy tale is with…
“And we lived happily ever after.”
I closed my diary silently as I sniffed, remembering all those precious moments of my life when I met Yuki. Our honeymoon was perfect. We traveled the world, and finally settled down in Tokyo, where we both grew up. We were planning to live with Yuki\'s parents since their house was big enough, but Yuki insisted we get a small place of our own. Something we both can call home. We eventually bought an apartment on the quiet side of Tokyo. Everybody always asks me why we didn\'t buy a house or a mansion, the only reply I gave them was because we found it to big. We wanted our home nice and cozy just for two of us. This apartment was perfect, as I looked around the bedroom and let out a sigh.
Everybody feels envious of me because I married a rich, caring, gentle, loving husband, but what do they know? Sure he is all that and much more, but lately he is…..well how do I say this….changing…
He is still sweet and loving, everyday he use to shower me with kisses and hugs, but everyday those kisses and hugs are decreasing. What\'s even more funny is that we haven\'t made love for quite a long time. I can say he spends too much time in the study room with his laptop. He finally chose to become a writer. Another question a lot of people have been asking me is why does he work if we have enough money to support us throughout our lives, well I think Yuki wants to be the one providing for me not his family, just him. He wrote numerous books and is all quite well known. I have read all of them and I dare to say, he is best writer out there.
I heard the study door click open and I quickly get up to my feet. He entered the bedroom and looked at me with those tired eyes.
“Go get the bath ready. You should be at least good for something.” He ordered.
I flinched at his hard words and nodded my head. I walked into the conjoined bathroom, turned on the water, and grabbed fluffy white towels from the bathroom drawer. He was never like this; it only started 3 weeks before. I only assumed it was because he was stressed out with his books, and hopefully it will all go away. But it never did, he got colder and colder each day. Now I have no idea what to do.
“Is the bath ready?”
His voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “Yeah it\'s done. Do you want anything else?”
“Make me some food. I want it ready when I\'m done my bath.”
“Alright.” I turned around and looked him in the eye. However, my eyes trailed down to the two bright hickeys on his neck. My eyes widened at the sight. They couldn\'t have been mine….we haven\'t made love for such a long time. If it\'s not mine then….
“Move out of the way. You better hurry and get the food ready.” He pushed my shoulder away from him.
My hands immediately flew to protect my stomach from getting harmed. I bowed my head down and left the bathroom. Upon entering the kitchen, my thoughts were drifted back to what I wrote in my diary.
I chuckled as I thought of how naïve I was. Happy endings don\'t exist. They only exist in fairy tales, not reality.
“..I believe in happy endings…Haha…I was quite stupid in believing in happy endings…Haha” I chuckled while I began to program the robot to start making a sandwich. I felt tears run down my face but I quickly wiped them away as I re-heated the soup.
