Chapter Nine
Disclaimer–I do not own Death note. If I did, the stories would be way more suggestive, if you know what I mean. ;)
Warnings–
I also may have to repeat that I don’t have a beta-reader… so some parts may be not as refined as I’d like it to be. Some parts might get a little erratic as I’m kind of fast-forwarding some parts of the storylines from The Movie, Anime and Manga. That aside, I hope that you will continue to enjoy the plot that I’m weaving now!
================================================
Rem was completely disgusted with the current human she was with. She had thought that Light and all the past humans she could remember was the worse kind of humans on the face of Earth. But this Higuchi human was truly the worst!
He was so greedy to the point where he only thought about money, cars and hot women. And on top of it, he was using the death note to profit from the deaths of rival CEOs. He had even gotten his buddies on it, even though they did not know who the current “Kira ” was. It was truly sickening…compared to them, Light was a fucking saint.
Of course… how much control Light had control of himself was still debatable, considering what Ryku had told him about that White death note. So without that ‘haunted’ death note, Light might actually be an decent guy…even though Rem seriously doubted it.
She still didn’t quite trust any of the human men in this world at all… far as she was concerned, the lot of them seemed to be driven solely by their hormones and selfish desires as if they were nothing but animals.
And this current human animal… he now had his sights set on her darling Misa! Higuchi had chortled over the fact that he would have Misa marry him, and then kill her after he got bored with her. It made her shinigami blood boil upon hearing him speak about Misa like she was nothing but a mere toy.
In a lot of ways, this Higuchi actually reminded her of the boyfriend she used to have as an human. And this made her loathe Higuchi even more than she thought was actually possible.
In fact, Rem had been secretly fantasizing about all the ways she could cause Higuchi to die an slow, agonizing death. There was just no way Rem would ever allow his dirty hands to touch her darling Misa! Misa couldn’t go though the things that she had as an human…she could not simply allow it at all. She wasn’t content to simply put her trust in Light anymore…she was taking things into her own hands!
Speaking of which…She looked down at the death note that Higuchi had told her to hide. She had an idea of what she could do, without breaking the rules. She tore out a piece of an page, and smirked to herself. She couldn’t kill Higuchi at the moment, but she’d make sure to speed things up…
She waited for the perfect moment, and it came sooner than she thought. Misa had appeared at the Youtsua corporation building, and after the interview she had gone to the bathroom. As seeing there was nobody else in the bathroom, Rem tackled this perfect opportunity!
Misa reacted as Rem thought she would. Misa even acted so adorable when she happily discovered that Light was the “Real Kira ” once she got over her shock.
Rem couldn’t help but smile at Misa’s sweet, innocent face and commented, “Misa, you really haven’t changed at all. Do you still love Light so much that you would die for him?”
As she figured, Misa hadn’t really changed at all, even her feelings still remained the same.
So Rem carefully explained the current situation to her, and told her to put her trust in Light.
Now all she had to do was wait and see if her plan worked….
––––––––––––-
No, no, no!! What the hell was her beloved Misa doing?!
Misa was doing the total opposite of what Rem had told her… She was in an car alone with Higuchi…acting like she trusted him completely! She wondered if Light put her up to this…
She watched in shock as the scene unfolded out before her. Apparently Misa was doing this to expose Higuchi as the current kira somehow…or at least she assumed. So she had to write down some guy’s name in Misa’s place when Higuchi wasn’t watching.
She practically had an heart attack when Higuchi pounced on top of Misa like some kind of savage animal. Much to Rem’s relief, he didn’t do anything but simply asked Misa to marry him.
Misa then asked him to prove to her that he was really Kira, and then had him drop her off near the building where she was staying.
Rem was grateful at this moment that Higuchi hadn’t done anything, but she was worried whenever she had really done the right thing in telling Misa about Light.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
L was seriously worried right now.
Yes, everything was falling into place, and the evidence was really stacking up against Youtsua and now it was discovered that Higuchi was actually the latest Kira now.
But… somehow this just felt…wrong. It felt like one of those cases where it gave the illusion of being a open and shut case, but actually was a rather complex one under the surface. It all fell into place way TOO neatly…
And then there was Misa. Before, she was extremely antagonizing when she wanted to be, especially when she didn’t get her way like she wanted. And now there was a sudden change in her personality. She was suddenly obedient, and seemed to listen to Light more than usual.
Of course, the others didn’t notice as usual… but this worried him.
Did that mean that Misa had regained her memories, or were in the process of regaining them? Would that also apply to Light?
To tell himself the truth, that thought completely disheartened him. Even though L did his best to remain neutral towards his suspect, he still couldn’t help but enjoy his time with Light. True, it annoyed him when Light acted like such a innocent boy. And whenever he gave L those doe-eyed expressions that made his stomach twist in a strange way…
But other than that, Light was truly brilliant. He would instantly spot a lot of things that L hadn’t, were quicker to come up with plans than L. And if that wasn’t enough of a feat in itself, he even seemed to know L well to the point where he knew exactly what L was thinking at times and sometimes acted in sync with L’s thoughts. It was like Light was not only L’s equal, but his perfect match…
Well, he wasn’t one to let his personal feelings get in his way no matter how it pained him to do so. He supposed that it was time to set up something for later. A trap to make Light reveal his true nature, as it was. But first, he’d have to take care of Higuchi…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A day later, Rem again was once in the middle of another unsettling situation. Apparently there was something on TV that was threatening to expose Higuchi as the current Kira.
Normally, Rem couldn’t care less and she personally felt that it would had been funny to watch Higuchi squirm like an trapped animal. However she was worried as seeing Higuchi was basically threatening to kill everyone connected, which induced Misa.
Rem had quickly averted the panicked human’s attention away from killing Misa by reasoning with him about the fact that he should only kill “ Matsui ” and not the others. As seeing if he had killed Misa and the others, that would make him seem even more suspicious.
However, she didn’t know how long she could reason with this miserable human…
She followed the panicking human into his car on the way and that was when Higuchi made the eye deal with her. She all too gladly took the deal, and then simply continued to watch the event unfold before her.
He killed a cop that had tried to stop him, and continued on his way to some building. When he couldn’t find what he wanted there… he rushed out back into his car and sped off to Sakura TV, where Light and the others save for Misa was waiting for him.
Rem smirked. So, this had been an trap set by L and others all along. Very impressive… She was thankful, because then that meant that she wouldn’t have to stay with this rotten human for very long.
Then to her dismay, Higuchi somehow escaped back into his car and sped away. Light and the others didn’t give up that easily though, and started chasing him with their own vehicles.
Before she knew it, there was a dozen cops blocking Higuchi’s escape route… and Higuchi like the fool he was, had tried to take his own life in some ridiculous desperate attempt. Rem was disappointed to see that he didn’t succeed in that.
Instead, he was captured by the law, and were taken into custody.
Rem didn’t even say anything when the one of the guys had picked up the death note, and screamed when he saw her.
She was slightly smiling now, as seeing she would finally get to watch over her beloved Misa once again. She even started to smile some more when she saw that Higuchi had been killed…most likely by Light. Good riddance to scum like that!

This is somewhat of a short chapter, huh? At least according to my standards… usually I write chapters that’s like six pages long, but this one was only 4 pages long.
The REAL fun starts next chapter… ;)
Of course, pointing out any flaws in my story is always helpful to me as seeing I don’t have a beta-reader… so review as always. =D
