Chapter 10 - One Small Comfort

Chapter 10 ~ One Small Comfort

Anna glared as Manta walked up slowly. “About time you showed your ugly face,” snappnapped. “Lets go.”

Manta’s expression became sadder, then slowly he followed Anna, his stomach becoming sicker by the minute.

“Pick up the pace, shrimp,” Anna yelled after a while, then blinked and looked back to find Manta breathing heavily as he moved away from a bush, wiping him mouth on his shirt sleeve. She cocked an eyebrow and quickly figured out he had thrown up, then shrugged and began walking again.

“I know what you’ve been up to,” she said after a long silence.

Slowly Manta looked up at Anna. “What do you mean?”

She shot him a dangerous glance. “I know about you and Yoh. And I can’t let it go unpunished.”

Though it didn’t seem possible for the small boy to do so, Manta grew paler. “A-Anna-san...” he whispered weakly.

She cocked an eyebrow. “That’s not to say I’m ready to get rid of you.” She eyed him quietly. “Do as I tell you to, and I will pretend I don’t know about you and my fiancee.”

“H-Hai...” he whispered while looking down at the ground.

“You can start by finishing all of my homework. Be at the hotel 4:30 tomorrow morning and make sure that the house is spotless and breakfast is ready. Understand?” she asked as she dropped her backpack on him.

He nodded slowly. “Hai... Anna-san...”

“On’nashujin,” she corrected.

“Hai, On’nashujin...”

“I think you’re capable of walking home alone,” she icily. “Now get going. I have things to look after.”

“Hai...” he whispered as he picked up her school bag and began walking home.

“He deliberately let go of the rope, Faust,” Mosuke explained. “When I entered Manta-dono, I could feel it. He wanted to hit the ground.”

The blonde doctor began to pace. “Oh dear,” he muttered, then looked up. “Do you have any idea what happened to make him so upset?”

“All I know is that every one of those guys came out of the change room, laughing about something. During the entire class they kept making quite distasteful sounds and comments towards him.”

“Um... Faust? May I speak to you alone?” Horo’s voice asked from the door.

Mosuke looked over quietly, then looked to Faust, who nodded. “Fine,” he said as he disappeared.

“Faust... I did something I shouldn’t have,” Horo said quietly as he sat down.

“May I ask what that was?”

“I... I kinda... scared Manta...”

Faust frowned. “What does that mean?”

“I dunno... I tried to get him to talk to me about what was going on, and I sorta... got carried away... and touched him...”

Faust’s eyes narrowed. “You did what?”

“Before you start reading the riot act, just let me finish this. When I was touching him, he kinda started to pass out and mentioned somebody...”

“Who?” Faust asked, his anger towards Horo not about to die down.

Horo was quiet for a moment, then he looked up. “He said ‘please stop, Hao,’. Like he thought I was Hao or something.”

Faust stared at him. “Hao?” He thought for a moment, then looked at the blunette. “Okay, first tell me everything that happened today. Mosuke mentioned that Manta had an accident with the rope. Tell me everything you know.”

Tamura walked quietly into Manta’s bedroom and looked towards the bed. The blonde boy lay silently in his bed, trembling. Quietly Tamura walked over and sat on the edge of the bed and ran a hand through silksilky locks. “Manta,” he said gently. “Manta, it’s time for dinner.” When he didn’t get an answer, he frowned. “Manta?”

Manta’s eyes opened very slightly, then shut again. “I’m not hungry, Tamura,” he whispered.

Tamura frowned more, then sighed. Then a thought occurred, which caused him to smile. “Mannoko and your parents are out for the evening. Would you like a bedtime story?”

Slowly Manta looked up at the caretaker, then moved over while Tamura retrieved a story book from one of the shelves in the closet. He lay down on the bed and allowed Manta to curl up to him, his head resting on Tamura’s chest.

Tamura smiled gently and stroked the blonde hair with one hand, while the other held the book, then he began to read.

Mosuke watched silently, longing making his heart ache. He wished that it could be he who held Manta and read to him, providing security and warmth and love. Knowing that it couldn’t be made him ache mor

“And that mean old Goldilocks. Why she...” Tamura read.

“But... She isn’t really being mean on purpose,” Manta interrupted, his voice soft. “She was just hungry. She didn’t mean to be bad.”

Tamura looked down. “Hmm?”

“S-Sorry,” Manta stammered, realizing he had interrupted, then curled up tighter to Tamura.

“I suppose you’re right. But for the sake of plot, let’s just ignore it,” Tamura said with a laugh.

Mosuke’s eyes filled with invisible tears, then he shot out of the house, angry that he couldn’t make the boy he cared so deeply for feel safe the way Tamura did.

After a while, Tamura looked down and found Manta had fallen asleep. He smiled gently, then slipped away from the boy and returned the book to the closet. Once the book was back, the caretaker made sure Manta was tucked in warmly, then smiled some. “Sweet dreams, Manta,” he said gently, then left the room to make sure everything was in order.

I know... Short chapter, and kinda pointless (other than Anna’s threat). Anyhoo, next chapter will be better and more humiliation, plus more of what Hao-kisama did. Oh, and I would greatly appreciate reviews to know what people think. Onegai? That’s it for tonight. Ato de!
