Katze tried not to fidget dressed in a hospital gown as the Elite doctors circled like buzzards all around him. Just like the first time he watched them as they talked and entered noted into the computer, notes he planed to hack and get later. He’d been in the cold exam room for an hour and all they did was look at him. Looked into his eyes, ears even looked at his genitalia much to his embarrassment.
“You’ll feel just a slight sting. I’m giving you your vitamin shot as instructed.”
Nodding dismissively to the medical assistant, Katze kept his main focus on the two whispering Rubies in the corner. The room wasn’t very big but as hard as he tried he couldn’t hear what they were saying. When they broke a part he tired to act as nonchalant as possible.
“Katze per Sir Am’s instructions we will be giving you a drink to help refresh you after we take a few vials of blood for testing.”
“Even though the amount of blood we take from you isn’t enough to warrant giving you the drink.” The Ruby next to the other grumbled.
“It’s not our place to question that of a Blondie Michael.”
The Ruby Michael grunted very un-elite like. “I think the amount of involvement Sir Am has with this pet is strange.”
“Not very. You’re new to this section so you don’t know that Air Am has always kept a close eye on the care given to his pets. It shows good ownership that he wants to be kept in the loop on the medical care his pets receive and Sir Am also has an interest in public heath care.”
Katze liked the fact that they thought nothing of talking openly in front of him although them saying ‘public health care’ was funny since they didn’t actually treat the public only pets and other elites, it was the only positive thing he found so far as a pet.
“Still all this trouble for him? He’s old.”
Okay maybe he didn’t like that they talked so openly like he thought. He was only twenty-four damn it.
“True. But look at him.”
Katze tensed as a strong, ungloved, hand firmly grasped his chin lifting his face up to the light and turning it from side to side. “Very lovely lines. Beautify pale soft skin and one can even say his hair is almost the same color as ours.”
Katze clenched his jaw to keep from snapping at them to get their hands off him and the unprofessional way they were acting. As doctors they shouldn’t only be looking at him in that way but he kept his silence even as the other Ruby touched his cheek with cold fingers.
“I should ask Sir Am if he would be interested in pairing his pet with mine for a private viewing.”
Katze breathed a sigh of relief when the Rubies stopped appraising him only to shove a cup in his face.
“Drink this. It should stop any dizziness or sickness you might feel from the insignificant amount of blood we take from you and quickly replenish you.”
Katze eyed the cup of pink liquid in the Ruby, Michael’s hand.
“I’m not asking you pet I’m telling you to drink it.”
Nodding submissively even thought he wanted nothing more then to toss it over his shoulder or better yet on the Ruby’s pristine lab coat. Katze reluctantly took the cup and took a sip, grimacing at the bitter sweet taste.
“All of it.”
Swearing that he hoped the Ruby would meet a horrible death in his head Katze held his breath and drank it in one shot then shivered and swallowed a few times to try and keep it down.
“Open your mouth.”
Katze opened wide to show the Ruby he did in fact swallow it and wasn’t holding the nasty ass drink in his cheeks to spit out later.
“Good now hold still.”
Flinching Katze tried to hold himself from squirming as the needle descended into his arm. The drink was doing something funny to him. He didn’t feel drugged not even light headed but focused as if the gears in his brain got new parts. Questions he had always been stuck on in the past he was able to answer quickly, easily. Everything was clear but just was suddenly as the feeling came upon him it left making him feel sluggish as if with every vial they filled with his blood they were sucking that feeling of clarity out of him.
“Alright we are all done. My assistant will take over, keep you elbow bent for a minute and the bandage on until the bruise fades. I would put an invisible bandage on but your Master wants to see the pierce sight.”
Confused Katze looked up at the towering Ruby. “Invisible bandage?” He’d never heard of such a thing and he knew everything, everything, that was bought and sold in Amoi.
“It’s a bandage that we invented here to hide unsightly bruises from blood taking or other wounds. We mostly use these especially for performing pets. It gives the illusion of unblemished skin and heals wounds quickly, it dissolves after a certain time depending on which type of bandage we use and what kind of wound it is. Why I’m explaining this to a pet I have no idea.” The Ruby mumbled the last part to himself as he walked away.
“I’m just going to wipe the area with an alcohol wipe then put a normal bandage on it.”
Katze nodded to the assistant. “Are those bandages really that good?”
The aid nodded. “Very good. Healing rate is in the high ninety percentile as is the appearance or I should say the disappearance of scars.”
“Could I possible get a few to show my Master?” Katze asked polity trying, hoping, he was being charming.
The young man stared into his eyes as if shocked then blushed. “I-I don’t think that would be a problem.” He stammered pulling s few out of his pocket from the plain gray scrubs he wore.
“Thanks.” Katze said with a smile.
“You’re welcome.” The aid said ducking his head.” Umm please bend your elbow up for a few and leave your bandage on until your Master comes home to remove it.”
Katze watched the aid almost run out of the room before be could say anything. Shrugging at his strange behavior Katze reached with his other hand to take the bandages from his bent arm and noticed he still held onto the cup and it still had some of the pink liquid in it. Looking to make sure no one was looking he folded the top of the paper cup to keep the bitter sweet pink stuff from escaping and hid it in his hand. Hopefully the amount left was enough that he could get it tested.
“Katze?” Niko stood at the door waiting with his clothes folded in a basket in his arms.
Dressing as carefully and quickly, since the elites in the room didn’t think it was necessary to leave to let him dress in private, while still trying to hide the cup in his hand they left.
Once they got back to the apartment he told Niko he was hungry to occupy the nosey, gossiping Furniture and quickly entered Raoul’s study looking and finding an empty vial. Pouring the pink liquid in it and making sure the cap was tightly closed he took a look around to make sure nothing was out of place before leaving. He just had to find a way to get this to Alex to test as he hid it in his room.
“Katze lunch is ready.”
“I’ll be right there!” Katze called back but headed to his bathroom first. Taking out his shaving kit he searched the bag and pulled out a razor. “I hate unnecessary pain.” He mumbled before making a small, one inch, cut on his left arm just below his bandage. Turning on the faucet he washed away the blood and kept his arm under the cold water until it stopped bleeding. Wiping away the water he looked at the cut.
“Small but noticeable. Impossible for Raoul not to miss.” Katze took one of the invisible bandages from his pocket and tore it open with his teeth. Unwrapping it he held it up to the light. It was clear, like looking through glass, hence the name, which could still use a better labeling, Katze thought. Hell if he wasn’t holding it with his fingers touching the sticky coat that bonded to your skin he wouldn’t think anything was there. Pulling it on the small, stinging, cut he ‘hmph’ in disbelief when the wound vanished. He couldn’t even really feel the thing on his arm. It didn’t itch as almost all bandages did and the stinging was gone no doubt from what ever pain killer was on it.
Shit he had to talk to Iason about this. Yesterday he had asked Riki to tell Iason he needed to see him but with a big event coming up tomorrow night his schedule was full, not even Raoul could get away from his duties from this and hide in his lab. As one of the high ranking Blonde’s he had to do his share with this event. Being stuck in Eos Katze had no information on what the party was about and it was irritating but if it kept Raoul busy and tired enough to keep him away from him and his sore ass then it was fine.
“Katze?”
“Coming Niko!”
“There is a delivery for you from someone named Alex.” Niko hollered.
Finally! Putting the three remaining bandages in his shaving kit Katze walked out to see Niko holding an arm full of blood red roses.
“They smell heavenly.” Niko sighed.
“That’s nice.” Katze said absent mindedly. Taking the bouquet from Niko he unwrapped the almost leather like paper they were rolled up in, dumping the roses uncaringly on the living room table.
“Oh no! Your going to damage the petals!” Niko cried in horror as Katze shook the wrapping shaking the roses that were stuck off and onto the floor.
“Throw them out,” Katze mumbled as he walked to the kitchen. Grabbing a cup of water he searched the refrigerator until he found a lemon, anything citrus would have been fine but a lemon was all he could find in his rush.
“You don’t really mean it when you said to throw them out did you?” Niko yelled.
What ever happen to Furnitures being silent and speaking only when spoken to, Katze thought as he cut the lemon in half then squeezed both haves into the cup of water.
“I could really use them around the apartment.” Niko mournfully said appearing before him holding one of the half bloomed roses to his nose. “It would be such a waste…”
“I don’t care what you do with them Niko.” Katze said mixing the cup of lemon water with a butter knife.
“Really?”
“Yes really Niko.”
“I don’t want to be a bother if it will cause you a problem.”
“You’re being a bother and a problem to me right now Niko.”
“If you really want me to throw them out I will…But they are such lovely flowers and to throw them away…”
Katze could feel his eye twitching. Looking up he calmly put the butter knife down. “Niko I would be delighted if you could please arrange the flowers that were delivered to me as you see fit.” Katze smiled at Niko or tried to smile it was more like he bared his teeth at him.
“You don’t mind?”
“NO,” Katze closed his eyes and counted to ten. Cracking his neck he opened them and smiled again at Niko. “No I don’t mind at all Niko in fact I would loovvoveee it if you could separate the flowers, there is about two to three dozen if I counted correctly just by sight, why don’t you also go buy some vases and put them through out the whoooollleee apartment? Sounds like fun right? Then snap to it!” Katze clapped his hands at Niko and made shushing motions with his hands.
“Thank you Katze.”
“Ya, ya.” Katze mumbled. Sir Am and his Furniture were a good match. They both were trying to drive him crazy.
“Then I’m going to go out like you suggested and get those vases.”
“Okay then bye bye.” To impatient to wait until he left Katze spread the paper on the counter top, taking four more glasses to keep the edges from curling up he slowly poured the lemon water over it, saturating the thick paper and gradually blue symbols started to appear. Long ago he had developed a special chemical that hid ink all it took was a citrus to bring back the ink. Problem with using it was that it only worked on special paper, paper that was very hard to come by so once he saw it around the flowers he knew straight off what to do. Deciphering them quickly Katze jerked up them slowly read the information written down again then again and again.
“Shit,” He whispered. Scrambling to find a dish towel Katze hastily wiped down the paper as fast as he could without ripping it then dashed to his room he hid it under his bed. Jumping up he ran to the closet where his bag and phone was but stumbled and crashed into the wall. Light headed he swayed, dizzy. Shaking his head and rubbing his eyes Katze swayed again, trying to call out to Niko who hopefully hadn’t left yet Katze made a crocking sound before crashing to the floor.

Jupiter looked down at the human below her with aversion on her translucent beautiful face making sure the emotion of disgust was clearly shown. She had long ago learned what emotion was. A gift that she could use or not from the ones she searched for and she used it now on the pathetic ‘thing’ before her.
The soft golden glow she always presented herself as with her Elite children was gone. Instead she chose a frosty steel color and although she still sparked brightly to the one in front of her it gave him the feeling of death and coldness.
“Report.”
“Y-yes Jupiter. The last testing for His Excellency’s pet-“
“Riki!”
“F-forgive me. T-the last testing we did for Riki proves without a doubt that he is-is in fact a pure blood with no traces of mixed-“
“If he is of pure blood then it goes without saying that he has no other mixed blood in him doesn’t it?”
“S-sorry.”
“Continue.”
“We need more blood from him…we used it all on the tests and so umm…”
“Speak!”
“We don’t know how much of his transition was pushed forward after his accelerated healing especially when…when ‘it’ awoke. We need more to test how close he really is and we also need to stock up more of his blood should another incident occur like Dana Bahn.”
That would be tricky, Jupiter thought. Iason knew something was going on; knew Riki was being tested on and has already taken steps to discover why and made sure that any future visits Riki had would be personally supervised by him. Even though it put a hamper on her plans she couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride towards her favorite son. But it was also simple matter easy to get by.
“And Katze?”
“Ahh his testing went without a hitch. We were able to give the serum to him without the Elite doctors knowing and there were even reports that the medical aid swore to have seen his eyes glow when he was applying a bandage to his arm afterward. Other tests are still in process but it is looking good. W-we weren’t really sure how much to give him, but it shouldn’t have harm him.”
“We shall see.”
“Y-y-es.”
“Now on to the other matter. Have you found him?”
“We have been…umm…we have been unable to locate Dr. Landon, the first doctor that discovered Riki to be what he was…”
“Has he been infected?”
“Umm…”
“Has-he-been-infected?!”
“It’s safe to say from his erratically behavior and actions after his last rejected request to take Riki from His Excellency that…t-that the possibility he has been infected is high…”
“Do you have any inclination to where he might be hiding?”
“N-no Jupiter.”
Angered Jupiter zapped the floor and the human with bolts of electricity. Pleased with the sounds of his screams of pain and sobs of mercy she continued only stopping when the human no longer howled. Calling her aids she had them drag him away.
“Disgusting insect.”
Alone Jupiter let the emotion fall away clearing her artificial mind from the distraction they caused. Her best human scientist, the only one she had granted immortality to had to be hunted down swiftly. There was no cure once you were infected. He had to have been gotten it early on but kept it a secret. The signs he showed hadn’t been enough to condemn him to death and she had needed him. William Landon the only one out all the humans that had actually been useful. And now Riki had to be watched at all times until he was found.
It took Landon five years to discover the truth about Riki, time that would have been cut in half if she could have only use just one of her Elite children. But it was a secret she was keeping from them a secret that she had been keeping for over four hundred years.
