~~**Forever Caged**~~

Jared paced angrily in front of Rio, who sat on the floor in the middle of the medium sized containment room. Every so often he would stop and to scold the blond, only to snap his mouth close before saying anything and begin pacing again.

“I don’t see how you can be upset about this.”

Jared turned sharply on his heels and glared at Rio. “How can I be upset? How can you expect me not to be upset, Rio!”

The frustrating blond shrugged as he wiggled in the straitjacket Raoul ordered Rio be restrained in. “It’s not like I killed anyone.”

“You hospitalized five guards and six medical staff!”

“Yeah, but didn’t kill any of them. I mean, I tried but I got tasered like a motherfucker.” Rio teetered to the left as he attempted get into a more comfortable sitting position. “I’m a bit disappointed in myself about that, but I knew you’d be upset if I murdered people… Although, murder is a pretty harsh word.”

An undignified snort escaped Jared. “You did not restrain yourself on my account.”

“Can’t lie to you about that.” Rio laughed. “I must still be on the mend to not have offed those roadblocks with one slice.”

Jared rubbed his temples. “Do you know what you have done?”

“Sure.” Rio smiled.

Jared waited for the blond to continue, until he realized Rio wasn’t going to elaborate any more than he did. “Well?”

Rio frowned. “Well what?”

“Explain yourself to me!”

Rio stared at him, confusion written clearly on his face. “I thought I already did?”

“Rio—” Jared pursed his lips together and attempted to calm himself before speaking again. “How you passed your psychiatric evaluation, I will never know.”

“Twice,” Rio said, grinning. “I passed twice. That red-headed Elite’s tests are nothing compared to the ones I had to take back home.”

Jared paused. “How many test did you undergo before now?”

Rio whistled and scratched his cheek with his shoulder. “Jeez, I don’t know… My family had me tested…seven? Maybe eight times? Not counting the ones I had here, of course.”

“Of course,” Jared said dryly. “And why would they have the need to do this?”

The blond shrugged again. “Shit happened when I was a kid and I got all messed up in the brain for a bit.”

Jared’s eyes narrowed. “And what kind of “shit” happened to you to warrant your family to do this?”

Rio exhaled loudly. “Man, where do I start? This and that, I guess.”

Jared gashed his teeth together. “And what exactly is “this and that”?”

“This and that, as in, mind ya own dayum business.” Turning his head away from him, Rio lifted his chin. “I don’t gotta tell you nothin’.”

Fed up with the blond’s attitude, Jared grabbed the straitjacket’s collar and dragged Rio to the nearest chair. Sitting, he pulled the blond across his lap and, raising his hand high, brought his palm down hard on Rio’s ass.

Jared ignored Rio’s shouts, curses, and threats against his life and punished the blond with four more raps to his ass before he was interrupted by someone loudly clearing their throat.

“Sir Kyl.” The Ruby Elite, Michael, approached slowly. “Sir Am requested my presence here. He said your pet was in need of medical assistance.”

“Yes, I need medical assistance!” Rio shouted. “I got attacked. My ribs are all busted as fuck, and this psycho is beating me. Get him off me!”

“Technically, I am not on you.”

Rio leered over his shoulder at him. “You could remedy that, you know. I’ve waited long enough. I dig the spanking foreplay, but cock teasing gets boring after awhile, and it makes you come off as a major douche too.”

Despite the insult, Jared could not help but be amused with Rio’s swiftly changed mood. Setting him onto his feet, Jared stood and gave his attention to the Ruby watching them. “Raoul had already inspected Rio’s injuries, as did I. We have no need of your service.”

“My ribs—”

“You will not be getting any narcotics to stem the imaginary pain you claim to have, Rio.”

“You just gotta suck the joy out everything, don’t you,” Rio mumbled as he crossed his ankles and sank down to the floor.

Jared eyed the blond before focusing his attention back to the Ruby. “How long does he need to stay in containment? I wish for him to come home with me tonight.”

The Ruby looked at the chart he held in his hand. “As the result of your pet’s actions in the dining area, his involvement in assisting Sir Zavi’s pet—”

Rio gasped in outrage. “I most certainly did not—”

“There were cameras and your conversation with Orphe’s pet was recorded,” Jared said.

“Damn it…”

“—Sir Am has requested that the young prince be closely monitored by me, since no other will willing go near him.”

Jared frowned. “Why?” He would have thought that Raoul would want him to take Rio away. His lethal blond had proven to be too dangerous to keep near people.

“Other than the fact that he nearly killed almost a dozen people not more than a half hour ago?” The Ruby shot Jared an amused glance. “Sir Am seems to think the young prince has a serious drug addiction.”

Rio snorted. “Just because I have a high tolerance and occasionally like to have fun, doesn’t mean I’m an addict.”

“Your occasional drug use did considerable damage to your kidneys. Just one of the many injuries healed while in the HRP,” the Ruby said.

The blond twisted and turned in the straitjacket. “You say considerable, but I say marginal.”

“Why did you not inform me of this?” Jared asked.

The Ruby handed the chart over to him. “As asked of me, I only notified you of the injuries Rio sustained under Landon’s hand. Anything prior to that was inconsequential.”

Jared flipped through pages that listed every cut, wound, mended broken bone, and scar Rio had before going into the healing pod. The list was extensive and alarming.

“Our machines are capable of identifying three years of trauma done to the human body. I personally would like to interview Rio on how he managed to stay relatively sane, considering the damage the HRP reported. And how he could have possibly survived,” the Ruby said. “The human body is incapable of handling the amount of stress the young prince has subjected it to.”

“Talk about a serious invasion of privacy,” Rio grunted as he twisted violently. “What I’ve done, and what has been done to my body, is my business.”

Jared handed the chart back to the Ruby and turned to Rio, knocked him gently onto his back, flipped him onto his stomach, and retightened the straps Rio had loosened.

“Damn it!”

“Stay still,” Jared said as he tightened the last strap and sat Rio upright again. “You are not to remove the jacket until we can find a place that you will not endanger the staff here.”

“I can kill just as well without my hands, as I can with them,” Rio said glaring up at him.

“Then I’ll just have to tie your legs up as well,” Jared said calmly.

“I’m gonna smoother you in your sleep, preferably with my cock down your throat.”

Only his blond could make a death threat exotic. Still, as humorous as Rio was, the situation he currently put himself in wasn’t.

“If you have no use for me, Sir Kyl, I will take my leave.” The Ruby bowed and walked out of the room.

“Rio.” Jared sighed. “I do not think you understand the seriousness of what you have done. Iason will not—”

“I understand perfectly.”

Jared looked down at the blond doubtfully.

Rio laughed. “You Elites are so funny. You look at me and think the things I do are nothing but random wild acts of violence. There is a reason why I’m so successful at what I do.”

“Is that so?” Jared crossed his arms. “Care to enlighten me?”

Rio sighed loudly. “Look. I know exactly where I stand with Riki’s chew toy. He can’t kill me, and because I innocently ‘sold’ Riki to some douche with a fetish for dark skin and black hair, Iason doesn’t like me.”

“Innocently?” Jared lifted his brows.

“Well, it’s not like I was planning on getting caught.” Rio tsked. “Anyway, by backing Riki up with whatever insane crap he’s doing, and kicking ass in those tunnels, I’m endearing myself to Iason. Helping Niko escape, I’ll have charmed my way into his Blondie’s heart. And by beating the shit out of Landon—but not killing him—and removing a few obstacles for V to get his heal on with Landon, I’ll have earned his Elite’s forgiveness.” Rio grinned. “Nothing I do is not without thought, but most importantly, it benefits me in the long run.”

Jared had to admit that the blond was correct. Regardless of the selfishness of his actions, by doing all that he had done, the other’s would think more of him as an ally than an enemy. However, he did not think Rio was being honest with himself. He kept people at a distance and artfully disclosed nothing about himself even while being open and talkative, but he liked Riki and the other mongrels. If not, he would not have lifted a finger to help them. Kill them, yes, but help them? No. “So the guard you killed, before getting captured by Landon, was part of your plan?”

“Nah, that was a spur of the moment thing—a way to blow off steam.”

“That is your way of relieving stress?”

Rio frowned. “Yeah. What do you do?”

Not kill people.”

Rio’s shoulder hiked up. “Your loss then.”

“And what do you plan on gaining the good graces of Aisha and Marcus?” Jared asked. “What else are you plotting?”

Rio smiled mischievously up at him, laid back, and spread his legs. “How much are you willing to pay me to find out? If you don’t have money, I’m willing to take sexual favors.”

Jared shook his head.

oOoOoOo

Katze narrowed his eyes at the mongrel that stepped in his path. The male was taller than he was by a couple inches. His hair fell past his waist. However, his dark copper-flecked eyes put Katze on high alert. The way the male stared at him with the hatred of familiarity. He never met the man before. Never seen him in Ceres, in the black-market, on the streets of Midas or Tanagura, and yet he felt as if he should know him. But the main thing that screamed in his mind was the word danger.

This man was looking for blood, but Katze could see the intelligence behind those eyes. He could see the man weighing the risks of attacking him. The hallway was empty and he was alone—Raoul having departed to check on V. The man’s heavily muscled body and mannerisms told Katze all he needed to know on who would win in a fight, but it didn’t mean he would back down, even if the odds were against him. “Do we have a problem?” Katze said shifting his body to better defensive stance.

“Only if someone finds a problem with being compared to someone their whole life, and found wanting,” the stranger replied.

Being around Blondies, Katze had no trouble responding to the stranger. “I would say it depends on the worthiness of the one doing the comparison. Do they deserve your trust and respect to give their judgement of who you are, and thus giving them power over you?”

“An answer I already came to a conclusion to a long time ago,” the stranger said shifting his body to mimic his. “However, to ignore the ramblings of an insane man is to deny myself the wisdom found between his words of hatred.”

“But,” Katze countered, “have you allowed yourself to drown in his rage, or have you risen above his views and learned to think for yourself?”

“Thinking for myself had never been the issue. You should know.” The stranger smiled. “Were you not able to think beyond what was thought of you at an uncommonly young age?”

Katze narrowed his eyes. “If thinking for yourself was never the issue, then what was?” he asked, ignoring the comment about himself. The fact that the stranger knew this about himself was rattling, to say the least, for he knew nothing about the man. Katze was not someone who liked being in the dark about anything.

Leaning closer, the stranger said, “If the person is worthy enough to be compared to you, of course.”

“And have you come to an answer?” Katze moved his hand to his pocket.

The stranger tracked his movement. “I would not consider it wise to remove the pen in your pants, Katze. You are way out of your skill of expertise if you decide try to use it against me.”

Katze dropped his hand.

“As for your question.” The stranger looked Katze up and down and took a step back, relaxing his posture. “I have found the person to be lacking in strength and intelligence.”

Katze’s body heated with outrage.

“Your eyes are glowing,” the stranger said. “Did your father not teach you of what could happen if you did not control your emotions?”

“I’m a mongrel,” Katze said lifting his chin. “We do not have fathers.”

The stranger huffed. “Ignorant as well.”

Katze grit his teeth. “And what would you know of me?”

The stranger stared at Katze and said, “More than you could ever know,” before he turned and walked back into his room, shutting the door behind him.

Katze’s eyes locked on the door. He stood frozen with shock. His heart slammed against his chest. The stranger’s eyes glowed.
