Kaidoh was supposed to have left fifteen minutes ago but instead he was kissing with Akutsu behind his house. He’d declined a night stay, not wanting his parents to get too suspicious about him spending so much time with his “friend” but that wasn’t stopping Akutsu from trying to convince him.
“I said come in...” he murmured, holding his face as he kissed him.
Kaidoh continuously tried to pull away, but decided to drop his bag and press Akutsu to the wall instead. He kissed his boyfriend passionately, not really wanting to leave either. All night while they did homework they’d been fooling around, hinting at doing “that” again. He could tell Akutsu wanted to most of all because he was getting nicer and nicer with each piece of clothing he tried to remove.
The back door opened and Akutsu shoved Kaidoh away, raising the cigarette to his mouth.
“Akutsu Jin ” his mother yelped.
She smacked him across the mouth and snatched the cigarette, stomping it into the ground. “Is that what you come over here for? Is Kaidoh giving you cigarettes? ”
Kaidoh shook his head, hissing in embarrassment. Akutsu growled.
“Go away ” he barked, pissed because his time was interrupted.
“Go talk to your father Jin Now ” she looked at Kaidoh. “Goodnight Kaidoh.”
Akutsu gave Kaidoh a brief look and went inside, his mother following him and closing the door loudly. Kaidoh walked away, getting his bag and walking off into the night.
When he got home he apologized to his mother and sat in front of his cold dinner. His father looked at him and his little brother blinked.
“Big brother, who’s your girlfriend?”
Kaidoh blushed. “I don’t have a girlfriend. It’s none of your business Hazue.”
Kaidoh’s father cleared his throat. “You need to be home on time, then you can go and see her. Understood?”
The youth nodded. “Hai...”
“I understand from Inui that you’re neglecting your training. I want you to do well in tennis. Girls can come later.”
“Hai.”
“Wakarimasu ka?”
“Hai, Father. Wakarimasu.”
He ate his dinner in silence, his brother smiling mischievously over his dessert, his father reading the rest of the paper. He finished and declined dessert, going to his room to get some studying done.
****
Inui was alone for the dinner he made himself and ate it in front of his computer, his homework done, the day’s data half inputted.
Yagyuu had closed the door right in his face. Was this the feeling of rejection?
Inui once again went over what he was feeling and decided it was a mixture of slight annoyance at the stew he’d made (the meat was a bit dry) and contentment.
I liked Yagyuu though. He was interesting. We had good conversations...
But Inui realized that this isn’t something you say about someone you’ve been somewhat intimate with and possibly care for. He set his bowl down on a nearby table and looked at his screen.
Kaidoh had looked at him for a combined twenty-five minutes and thirty-seven seconds today. They’d exchanged around sixteen hundred and fifty-five words, more so on his part for once. The boy’s bandana color was its usual green and it was freshly washed in a flora scented detergent. Today it had taken Kaidoh only seven point six minutes to get dress and half a minute to tie his tennis shoes.
The senior sighed.
Was he obsessed?
Inui looked down in his notebook. It was a brand new one he’d bought. It was Kaidoh notebook number eight. The margins were already full of tiny sketches.
Yes, he was obsessed.
He didn’t have shrines. He didn’t follow Kaidoh everywhere he went...all the time...or to the bathroom. But it would seem he qualified perfectly.
He typed a few more lines then reached for his cell phone and dialed.
It took a few seconds but it picked up.
“Hello? It’s Inui.”
“Hai. Konbanwa Senpai.”
“...would it be appropriate of me to ask you to come by at this juncture or are you busy?”
“...Fwssssh...I’m out running now.”
“With Akutsu?”
“No. I left his house sometime ago.”
“I see. After your run perhaps?” Inui tapped his finger. He wanted to see Kaidoh tonight.
“I’m a few blocks from you. I could come by now if you’d like.”
“I would like that.”
“Hai. Ja Senpai.”
“Kaidoh?’
“Hai?”
“...nevermind, I’ll see you soon. Sayonara.”
Inui hung up and looked around his room. He estimated Kaidoh’s time of arrival to be around ten minutes so it would be best to straighten up his room.
Around fifteen minutes later, with Inui doing lots of worrying in the last five minutes, h heard the doorbell. He answered it and let Kaidoh in.
“Would you like some water or...a fresh towel?”
Kaidoh bowed, answering in the affirmative. Inui waved him inside further and followed him to the kitchen.
Inui watched the mamushi drink down the water and was pleased as he accepted the towel and wiped away the sweat.
“I can offer you clothes if you’d like to get out of those things...or if you’d like to shower?”
Kaidoh looked at him strangely for a moment then shook his head, dispelling his thoughts. “If it isn’t inconvenient Senpai.”
“Not at all. We can wash and dry those things while you’re in the shower as well.”
The boy nodded and followed his Senpai up the stairs. It didn’t take long before Kaidoh was having the shower, his clothes in Inui’s care. Outside of the stall there was a small pile of folded clothes for him to wear as well as a towel. He wondered if Inui was waiting outside of the door, trying to take data on his showering?
He laughed to himself and shook his head. His Senpai wasn’t that way.
He finished and dried off, putting on the sweat pants and tank top, wiping his feet before he left the bathroom, not too shocked when he saw Inui lingering outside.
At least his ear wasn’t to the door.
“Arigatou Senpai.”
“No problem...” he motioned that they should head for his room and Kaidoh followed him there, taking the offered seat on the bed. He put the towel around his shoulders and began to get nervous when neither of them spoke.
“So...how was Yagyuu today after we parted?”
“...He closed the door in my face. We’ve ended our period of intimate contact. He’s decided we’ll no longer be familiar acquaintances.”
Kaidoh smiled. His Senpai was nervous.
“You mean you two broke up?”
“Hai. He was very unpleased, though gauging by his over all posture and tone of voice, he’s still retains sixty-seven percent of his attraction for me.”
“Inui-senpai wa haato-bureika desu.”
They both smiled and Kaidoh dried his hair a little more. Inui relaxed in his computer chair and crossed his legs at the ankle.
“How was Akutsu?”
Kaidoh blushed and looked down. “He’s alright. His mother caught him smoking before I left. I think he was in big trouble.”
Inui took mental note of this. “Second hand smoke can ruin your training.”
“I know. He doesn’t do it around me often.” Kaidoh looked at his Senpai. “I accept his choice to smoke.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You’re always talking, even if you don’t speak Senpai. I know a little about you.”
“Then why won’t you date me?”
“I don’t feel the same.”
Inui looked at Kaidoh, his expression giving way to confusion and longing. “A few days ago you were here and we -”
“I’m sorry. For that.” Kaidoh forced out. “And I’m sorry for at school.”
“Oh.” Inui looked at him for a bit, eyes drifting down to the carpet and back to his computer screen. “Your clothes should be finished washing in approximately fifteen point two minutes and dried in around thirty seeing as you have light articles of clothing...”
His speech trailed off and he glanced at his food bowl, thinking that he should save the stew even if the meat was dry.
“Inui-senpai?”
He came back to the present, pushing up his glasses. “Hai. Kaidoh.”
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine. Can I get you a drink perhaps? I need to take my dishes to the kitchen. I made some stew. The meat is dry, but if you’re hungry could I offer you some?”
Kaidoh nodded, watching the boy rise and leave the room.
He’s upset... Kaidoh looked around the room and ran a hand over the bed. What am I doing here...I should call Akutsu and see if he’s alright. Or grounded...
A stack of books caught his eye and he leaned, looking at them. He caught his name on the spines and gave a crooked grin. So those were it. The infamous Kaidoh notebooks.
He leaned back on his hands and stared at the ceiling. He felt comfortable at Inui’s house. He’d been over a few times as a freshmen and liked it for it’s quiet atmosphere, mostly because a quiet Senpai had tutored him in science here.
Thinking about it, he’d never met Inui’s mother. A daydream popped into his head of Inui in a flowered dress with lipstick and he shook his head, dismissing the thought.
The senior came back in and handed Kaidoh a drink, setting the bowl on a small stand near his bed. He sat at his computer, his back turned and began to work again, leaving Kaidoh to eat in silence.
Kaidoh ate, but after a while, became annoyed.
“We’re together alright? We like each other, I have fun when we hang out! What’s the matter with Akutsu?”
Inui’s finger’s paused in their typing, but picked up again, the question unanswered.
“Just because he isn’t you doesn’t mean anything. What were you expecting when I came over? That we’d kiss again? That you could get me out of these clothes?” Kaidoh put the bowl down, spoon clattering. “You really are a hentai!”
He snatched up one of the notebooks. “What do you have about me in here? Sick fantasies?”
Inui’s fingers stopped and he turned around, watching Kaidoh read the notebook. Ordinarily, he wouldn’t have let this happen, but he was hurt. And angry. And confused. All those times, he thought Kaidoh was reciprocating his feelings. What else would being forced against a shower stall and kissed mean? He’d seen Oishi do it to Eiji enough to know that it meant you liked a person. Was Kaidoh playing him? What if Kaidoh really was a “heart-breaker” and did this all the time?
Kaidoh’s eyes skimmed over pages and he dropped the notebook, grabbing up another and another and another until he was satisfied. He threw the last one at Inui’s feet and hised, turning and crossing his arms.
“You’re a fucking stalker...” he muttered, chest burning. “All that shit means nothing. I have Jin.”
“...I’m sorry.” Inui offered.
“It doesn’t matter! I’ve already been with him!” Kaidoh shouted in frustration.
It was like a slap in the face. The data player knew that it might happen. He had it written down at seventy-two point six percent but he didn’t actually think...his chances looked great as Kaidoh’s first time especially when he factored in the data from recent events that....that was no longer applicable....
“The articles of clothing you were dressed in when you arrived at my residence will take another combined thirty-six point seven minutes to finish.”
“That’s fine.” the boy growled.
“I will take your dishes downstairs now. If you’d like you can wait down in the living room or in the small laundry room that is eight point five feet from the kitchen. There is a small, circular stool there approximately three hundred and fifty-seven degrees around that you could wait on. It is uncushioned.”
“That’s fine.”
Inui rose stiffly, taking Kaidoh’s dishes. The boy followed him down and went to go wait in the laundry room.
Inui came in. “It should only take sixty-five seconds for you to switch your clothing to the other machine. I will be upstairs in my room if you require anything more. My door with be ajar at an angle of fourteen point eight degrees. A vocal summons is all it would take to alert me.” He bowed, stiffly. “Konbanwa.”
He left and Kaidoh hissed in anger, slamming his fist against the wall and crossing his arms tighter.
No one told you to love me! No one! I don’t care if you know everything about me! It means nothing!
He wiped at the tear leaving his eye and growled at his weakness. He’d already been with Jin. They were together now. It was too late for Inui-senpai.
Upstairs, eight identical notebooks now sat in the rectangular trash receptacle adjacent to Inui’s computer desk. He moved the mouse, selecting a folder and right clicked it, indicating “delete”.
Data could change.
