Chapter 16: Memories
Eve watched with mild disinterest as the Than introduced her partner for this excursion. She was a slight loo gir girl, obviously had it rough, from the dotted scars on her pale skin. She was lovely, though, her only betrayal of her hardened personality the stone cold eyes that stared out at her. There was no feeling in those eyes, like the look of a lion as it calculates how it will devour you. Eve smirked at this, meeting the girl with her own cold-blooded gaze. The girls both waited to be dismissed by the Than before actually speaking, It was Eve that spoke first.
“Eve. Some call me the Crimson Dragon,” Eve greeted, her voice filled with her cold arrogance.
“Sith.”
Eve’s smirk widened. “This is going to be fun.”

It was late, Eve could hear the slow, ominous ticking of the clock on the wall. She had finished with her assignment early, it wasn’t that difficult, especially not for the Crimson Dragon. The Than had assigned Sith as her partner again. She didn’t mind. She liked Sith, well as much as one can like another in their line of work. She glanced about the room, checking every shadow and every blind turn. It was a habit, either Sith would be there or the enemy, and Eve never let either sneak up on her. It was then that she heard it, a faint whimper of pain in the dark. Eve flipped a light switch in her bedroom, spilling pale light into the shadows of the living area. Slowly, her gun in hand, Eve stalked the couch in the center of the room. For a moment she waited, the whimper called again, this time coming from the couch itself. Eve slowly looked over the edge to see the most shockingne one of her life.
Sith, the woman known throughout the Red Dragons as the coldest, most ruthless bitch in the universe, lay huddled in a tight ball on the soft fabric of the sofa. Eve’s breath caught in her throat as she watched her. “Sith?” he called out.
The girl folded in on herself more.
“Sith, what’s wrong?”
Eve watched as Sith slowly opened her eyes. She seemed shocked, or at least as shocked as Sith could be. “Nothing,” her dead calm voice answered.
Eve rolled her eyes. Obviously, something was wrong, Sith lever laid out in the open curled in the fetal position. Hell, she took bullet wounds to the stomach that hadn’t caused this. “You’re a liar, Sith,” Eve sighed as she knelt down next to the blood haired woman. “Now, damn it, how the hell are we supposed to work together, if one of us is having problems?” she asked as she stood and tok a seat next to Sith’s huddled figure, being careful not to touch her. She knew Sith to well to touch her without permission, Eve smirked at the memory of that last bastard that had tried that. ‘What people do for personal space,’ she mused mentally.
“I’m fine,” Sith answered.
Eve shook her head and rolled her eyes again. ‘Stubborn bitch,’ she growled mentally. “Then look at me,” she ordered.
Eve watched as Sith slowly raised her head, her usually stony eyes filled with what looked to be emotion. She looked desperate, as though all hell was breaking loose in that logic driven mind of hers. Eve gaped as twin trails of tears flowed over her usually calm face. “Gods, Sith, what’s wrong?” she asked, her face transforming from shock to concern.
“I don’t know,” Sith managed to say before she broke down, the sudden cries of sorrow tearing from her throat as she folded in on herself, her shoulders shaking with her sobs.
Eve watched as the Unfeeling Shadow of the Red Dragons wept. Her pain and hurt ringing through the still air of the room. Eve fisted her hand over her heart. She understood this pain, she felt it before. She had cried alone in the dark, her only company being her screaming heart. Sith would not be alone, not if she could help it. With a gentle sigh, she gathered the other woman into her arms, softly caressing her sob wracked body, listening to the pain filled confession of the assassin. No, Sith would never be alone again.

Eve stared blankly out the rain soaked window, why was it that it rained whenever she felt depressed? She tightened her grip on her knees as the pale light of the streetlamps caressed her nude form. Eve watched the rain with a despondent stare. Every drop another unshed tear, another unsaid thought. She sighed softly as a hand gently traced the dragon tattoo on her back. Slowly, she turned her head to her companion, an eyebrow raised.
“You’re awake?” Eve asked.
A low snort answered as Vicious sat up, the white silk of his sheets sliding down to his hips as he porpped his hands behind his lean body. “You’re not that exhausting.”
Eve smirked. “You sure about that?”
Vicous smiled, it was rare and only for her. Slowly, he moved behind her, wrapping his long arms about her body, pulling her t his chest as he rained kisses over her shoulder. “I could never get tired of you,” he whispered.
“Liar,” Eve snorted.
Vicious’ chuckle vibrated against her skin as he turned her head to his. “I never lie to you, Eve. I truly love you.”
Eve smiled, her grey eyes filled with an untold sadness. “I can’t afford to love, Vicious.”
“Then just let me love you.”
Eve shook her head. “I’m not worth that emotion,” she said as she pulled away from the silver haired man. She turned her back to him, searching for her clothes.
“You’re leaving?” he asked.
“I was only stopping by. I have to go to Callisto.”
“Grin?”
Eve nodded as she dressed.
“I’ll meet you when you get back,” he stated.
Eve turned to her nude lover and crawled over to him, she then pressed her lips to his in chaste kiss. “I’ll be waiting,” she said as she vanished into the night.
