Rain
Chapter 19: Dreams and Confrontations

The world was all a swirl of grey clouds. The grey of her eyes when she was calm, a soft, almost comforting color. He could see her now, standing before him a soft smile of her face, her hands unconsciously caressing her swollen belly. Caressing her unborn child, no, their unborn child. She stood nude, her pale glory open to all the world, and yet, just to him. He walked forewords, he wanted to hold her, to kiss her, to feel the life of his child within her. But he could never get any closer, as though the earth beneath him stretched her away, telling him that he could never have her. Suddenly, the world grew dark, a dark tumultuous grey that gave him a pull of fear in his gut. Suddenly, he was in front of a mirror, his reflection staring back, eyes cold and enraged.

“She left us,” his reflection spoke.

“WE pushed her away,” Vicious corrected.

The reflection laughed. “She’s in his arms as we speak.”

Vicious felt heavy. “I don’t deserve her.”

His reflection reached out, grasping him by the throat. “You’re weak! That’s why you couldn’t keep her! That’s why she’ll never be yours!”

“I’m not weak.”

His other self stepped through the liquid glass of the mirror. “You are. You let her run away. You let her leave us for him! Now she carries your child, our child, and you said nothing, did nothing! You’re pathetic!”

“She’s afraid of me.”

His reflection scoffed as it waved its hand over the mirror. His memory of what happened earlier flashed before his very eyes. She looked beautiful, his storm goddess. The annoying dog snapping at his ankles in her defense. It was loyal, he had to admit that. Sith seemed at odds. Sith, he couldn’t explain what he felt for her. Sure, he respected her, but there was something else… she understood him, so much like Rain did.

“Do I look like I’m joking? Pregnant or not, I’ll kill you if I have to!” she spat defensively.

He remembered seeing the emotion shining in her eyes: the rage, the pain, the sorrow, the… regret. She regretted. What did she regret?

“Fine,” he heard his voice say, pain obvious in the very word.

She nodded, composing herself before the shining tears that threatened to fall, did so. Why would she cry? What did she regret? Why the hell hadn’t he seen this when he was there? Why hadn’t he just taken her in his arms and kissed her senseless? Why had he hesitated?

“Because you’re weak and stupid!” his reflection answered as it tossed him to the ground, gasping for air.

“I’m not weak,” he whispered into the darkening world around him. “I’m notk!” k!”

Vicious shot up in his bed. “I’M NOT WEAK!” he screamed.

For a moment, he sat there in silence. She had regrets. Were they about him? About her feelings for him? Was he reading too much into this? He didn’t know anymore. Slowly, he moved out of his bed. He needed fresh air, the room was suffocating. He could go out on the fire escape that Sith used so often. Sith, what was he going to say to her? Vicious then shook his head, he didn’t have to explain a damned thing to her. She was there by the order of those fucking corpses, not because she gave a damn about him. Vicious sighed as he stood, the sheets falling away with the barest of whisper against his white, silk pants. They’d been a gift, a gift from Rain when she was called Eve. They were all he had of her now.

Softly, he treaded through the hall, his bare feet moving softly against the carpeted floor. He moved briskly past the couch, not daring to look at Sith as he passed her and moved out onto the fire escape. It was then that he noticed that she was out there, that she hadn’t been on the couch at all.

“You’re awake,” she said.

“So are you,” he shot back.

Sith turned away, her cigarette glowing on her lips as she leane against the metal railing and gazed out over the darkened city.

“Why couldn’t you sleep?” he asked.

Sith didn’t answer.

“Aren’t you cold?” he asked as he took in her sleeping apparel. She had stripped down to a pair of black shorts and a black tank top. He could see the pale expanse of her skin and the dotting of scars along her body.

“Cold doesn’t bother me,” she said.

Vicious smirked. Cold had never bothered Rain either. “You’re a lot alike,” he said softly.

Sith stiffened slightly. She knew what he meant.

Vicious moved up behind her, pressing the line of his body against hers, feeling the warmth of her skin against his as he drug his hands up and down her arms.

Sith turned around, her body now facing his, her cigarette in between her fingers. Her breasts barely touching his chest as she leaned back. He moved closer, brushing his lips against hers softly before claiming them chastely.

Sith seemed to melt into him for a second, before roughly shoving him back. Her eyes wild with lust and anger. “Don’t touch me again,” she growled low. She was that lioness again, growling low in warning if you came to near her.

Vicious locked his pale blue eyes with her own onyx colored gaze. “Why don’t you ever let yourself feel?” he asked softly.

Sith’s eyes seemed to soften momentarily before hardening like diamonds as she pushed harder this time, sending him onto his ass. “I’m not her.” It was all she said, all she needed to say as she stalked off the fire escape, leaving him in the cool night air alone with his thoughts.

“She what?” Spike bellowed.

“She’s gone,” Faye stated.

“Rain, Rain, went away, might come back another day!” Ed sung as she typed away on her Tomato.

“What do you mean she’s gone?” Spike asked.

“What the hell do you care? After the way you and Jet talked to her, I’m surprised she didn’t kill you in your sleep, you bastard!” Faye shouted.

“She’s pregnant with the child of the man that not only screwed up my life, but hers as well!” Spike shouted back.

“She said that it was a drunken accident. I don’t know about you, but I know I’ve had my share. A few of them with you!”

“Oh, don’t you dare start with me, Faye!”

“Shut up you bastard! You have no idea what she’s going through!” Faye shouted.

“Oh, and you do?” Spike asked.

“Yeah, I do.”

“And how’d you gain that kind of experience, Faye?” Spiek asked.

“Because I just found out that I’m pregnant you bastard!” she screamed.

Spike paused. “Huh?”

Faye froze for a few moments, then ran from the room, her eyes filled with shock of her own words.

Spike felt light headed. Faye… Faye was pregnant? As his vision started to fade and his eyes rolled into the back of his head one thought crossed his mind. ‘Well this is just peachy!’
