A/N: Second installment of oneshot-ish songfic-ish thing. Kinda weird. Only one verse in this chapter. Enjoy!
Chapter 2: Lougetown
The weather had been weird since they’d left Lougetown earlier that day. It had been giving Nami odd vibes the whole time, as if there were a hurricane off in the horizon that was invisible, but chasing them. The other’s must have felt it too because everyone had been on edge since then.
Sanji and Zoro blamed it on the too close run-in with the marines but Nami had a different thought: Buggy. She hadn’t seen it, but the way the guys had explained the situation to her made her sick to her stomach. Had Buggy really captured Luffy at the top of the execution stand and nearly decapitated him?
“It was so awesome!” was Luffy’s depiction. Nevermind that he’d almost died, he was too enamored by the thought of standing in the exact same spot that Gold Roger had met his end. “It gave me tinglies.”
“Tinglies?” Ussop repeated.
“You know, tinglies,” Luffy continued, pointing to his arm. “Little bumps on your arms.”
“Luffy, those are goosebumps,” Sanji explained.
“Whatever,” Luffy shrugged. “That’s what Makino called them.”
“Don’t say that word anymore,” Zoro advised. “It’s too wossy.”
Luffy just shrugged again and went back into his detailed description of how cool it was to be standing at the top of the execution stand. Ussop was the wide-eyed and amazed listener for a change while Zoro shook his head and searched out a nice shady spot for a nap. Sanji had long since retired to the galley and Nami decided that she was too queasy to stay out on deck.
She sought out the refuge of her room and decided to take a page out of Zoro’s book and take a mid-afternoon nap. Sleep eluded her though and after an hour of tossing and turning she gave up and went back up on deck. She spent the remainder of the afternoon pruning her orange trees before Sanji called dinner. She was so distracted though that she barely noticed when Luffy tried to steal food off her plate.
“Oi! Gomu no Piggy!” Sanji came to her rescue, swatting the rubber hand with a frying pan. “Touch Nami-san’s plate again and I’ll fry you up for dinner for the gulls.”
“But,” Luffy pouted, “she’s not even eating it.”
Nami looked down at her plate and realized that he was right; she’d only been pushing her food around with her fork. With a big sigh and shake of her head, she handed her plate straight to Luffy.
“I’m not hungry right now,” she explained, leaving the table. “I’m going to go check our course.”
Out on deck, the weather blew her hair all about her face and gave her a chill. She quickly check that they were still on course and decided to follow her instincts. She went up to the upper patio and unfolded a large tarp in front of her orange trees. After pinning two ends down, she set about the task of trying to cover the trees and after two failed attempts, her temper got the better of her and she let loose a string of swear words.
“Need some help?” was offered from behind her. Nami turned around to see Luffy half way up the ladder to the top patio.
“Sure,” she relented breathlessly. She watched him climb the rest of the way up and easily move the tarp over the trees to the other side. Nami immediately moved to secure them in place.
“Thanks,” she murmured as she worked and didn’t pay attention to him until he was standing right behind her. She turned and looked up at him, since she was crouched by one of the pegs. He had a mischievous grin on his face. “Luffy? What’s that look for?”
“Can I have a reward?” he asked, starting to rock back and forth on his feet.
“You can’t have any of my oranges,” she answered immediately, crawling beneath the tarp to check that the tops of the trees were not being damaged. Luffy followed her under and when she turned to give him an odd look he scooped her up from behind and spun her around, chuckling in her ear the whole time.
“What if I didn’t want an orange?” he asked when he finally set her down. She turned her head to look at him since he had her from behind. He was staring at her intensely, causing her stomach to drop. She might have kissed him in that close and private moment had the atmospheric pressure not dropped dramatically, sending her bustling out of his arms and out from under the tarp.
“Zoro! Ussop! Raise the sails! We’re about to be hit by something big,” she yelled from the top patio. Neither Zoro nor Ussop moved at first, looking up at her as if she were crazy. The impending storm that had been hidden by dusk chose that moment to release a deafening thunder crack, and Zoro and Ussop finally moved to do as told.
“Sanji-kun, please make sure that we stay steady on the helm,” Nami asked with a less abrasive tone. Sanji showed his love of being more affectionately addressed by running to the helm and spouting words of praise in her direction. Finally, Nami turned to Luffy, who was just emerging from the tarp as well.
“Luffy, you might want to tie yourself to the mast or something,” she told him, looking at the moving clouds behind him. “This one might get ugly.”
“N’kay,” he agreed immediately and moved towards the ladder, but not before stretching an arm out and smacking her on the butt lightly as he passed her. She squwaked in protest and wondered what in the world had gotten into him that day.
She had very little time to ponder on it since the storm became very intense very quickly and after two hours of fighting it to stay on course, Nami finally gave up and told the guys to let the ship head out to calmer waters. Seeing as they’d done most of the work, save Luffy who had wrapped one arm around the mast and ooh-ed and ahh-ed through the storm, Nami let the guys rest up for the night and volunteered for the night watch.
As she stood on the upper deck and watched the storm wreak havoc on the sea that was now west of them, she couldn’t help but think about Luffy’s…oddness that day. It was as if the weather was mimicking how screwy Luffy had been acting since they’d arrived at Lougetown. Now, with the port a half a day’s travel behind them, Nami hoped that the odd behavior and weather would begin to fade as well.
As if to prove her wrong, Luffy walked out on deck and looked up at her through the light rain that was the remainder of the storm.
“So, when do I get my reward?” he asked, grinning an impossibly wide grin. Nami frowned and raised an eyebrow at him before walking over to the ladder to the top patio and climbing. Curious, Luffy walked up to the upper deck to see what she was doing. She disappeared under the tarp briefly before reemerging and tossing him an orange.
“There,” she stated, crossing her arms. “Now go back to bed.”
Luffy, never one to do what was expected of him, propelled himself up onto the top patio with her. Somewhat surprised at his sudden actions, she backed away instinctively until she tripped on the tarp and fell on her butt. He leaned down on his haunches and chuckled at her.
“It’s not funny,” she told him in a whiney voice. He laughed outright at her before offering a hand to help her up. Against her better judgment, she accepted his hand and was immediately pulled into his lap with a hard jerk. He locked his arms around her and fell to his back, then rolled them beneath the tarp and out of the rain.
“Luffy,” she squeaked as they came to a stop, she on her back and him on top. “What is with you today?”
His nose was brushing hers and his lips were inches away as he answered. “I dunno.”
As if testing, his lips briefly touched hers. She jerked a little, unsure of the entire situation. Seeing as she didn’t clod him in the head outright, he chanced a more forceful kiss. He pulled away and grinned at her, bringing up a hand to brush away some of her wet hair, which was sticking to her face. She just stared at him wide eyed, unknowing what to do, so Luffy decided for her.
He kissed her again, this time with an abundant fervor, sliding his tongue along her bottom lip seeking out a good place to sneak it in. He shifted his legs so that one of his knees came up in between hers and with the hand that had previously brushed hair away now traced the length of her thigh, pushing her damp skirt farther and farther up.
When his hand reached her hip bone it slid behind her and grabbed one cheek, not roughly but enough to make her gasp and allowing his tongue to slip in. At first she tried to push the intrusion from her mouth but his eagerness soon rubbed off on her and she was kissing him at an equal fever.
The lightning flashed as her shirt came off and a chilly breeze blew over her damp, naked chest before his own vest-less chest rested on her again. The thunder answered as Luffy struggled to get out of his damp jeans. With her skirt hiked up to her waist and her underwear long since gone, Nami gave in to the passion of the storm that was Luffy and she began to rock back and forth in time with the ship. Luffy was pushing against her like the waves against the boat that had long since been sucked back in by the storm.
She knew she was being loud, but she also couldn’t hear herself over the storm so she didn’t care. Luffy didn’t seem to care either, ravishing her with everything he had. Her fingers had been digging into his back previously, but as her orgasm crashed down upon her, her arms reached back behind her head for some kind of grip as he continued his fervent pace within her. As she came back down to earth, she was vaguely aware that he was whispering in her ear.
My hands float up above me
And you whisper you love me
And I begin to fade
Into our secret place
She couldn’t hear him over the storm, but could tell as he finished as well that he’d felt the same electric rush as her. He wouldn’t let go of her either. They stayed there wrapped within each other until the cold wind got the best of them and forced them to redress. As Nami slipped her damp shirt over her head, she felt rather than saw Luffy sit down behind her.
He pulled her backwards into his lap, leaning his head on her shoulder slightly as he pushed her hair aside to kiss her neck. She closed her eyes, relishing in the feeling, wondering what she’d done in her life to deserve to feel that way.
“Oi! What the hell is going on out here?”
Nami’s eyes snapped open and she darted from his arms and out from under the tarp. Zoro stood at on the main deck looking very cross.
“Sorry, I was checking on the trees and I guess I let us get off course,” she lied, coming down from the top patio. Zoro seemed not to care as long as she got them back on course and the ship stopped taking the brunt of the storm. He turned to go back down to the boys’ bunks and stopped right before entering.
“Luffy’s not in his hammock,” he stated matter-of-factly. “You seen him?”
Nami’s jaw dropped and she was sure she had a caught-red-handed look on her face. Fortunately, the giant trap Sanji had rigged to the refrigerator went off, followed by a disappointed howl.
“Nevermind,” Zoro sighed, heading down. As he disappeared, Sanji took his place at the door.
“That little puke just has no sense of--Nami-swan!” Sanji all of a sudden gushed. “You look so radiant in the rain! Like a nymph of the sea, my heart is stolen by you.”
He kissed her hand and continued upstairs to go release Luffy from the giant trap, as well as probably kick him around a little bit for trying to get into the fridge. The last Nami saw of either of them for the night was Sanji dragging Luffy down to the bunks by his foot, somewhat bruised and bloodied. As they walked by her and disappeared downstairs, Nami felt a hand reach out and smack her on the butt as they passed, and for once in her life, she was sure it wasn’t Sanji.
Finally alone on deck, Nami dropped her face in her hands. What had gotten into him on that island? No, better question: what had gotten into her beneath that tarp?
A/N: I liked it. Hope you did too. Next chapter up probably Monday. If I remember XP
