Session 0: Divided from Grace

Note: Nothing much to say for this one. I'm surprised I took so long on this chapter in particular.

I know it seems kinda tacky and whatnot, but I've always felt shaky on story intros. Once I get into my little safety zone (probably around the beginning of the REAL story), things will flow much better in my head, so Chapters could be added much more effeciently later on down the line.

Please leave reviews and such, even harsh criticisms if necessary. The more criticisms I recieve, the more quality that I can put into my story. Simple as that.

Enjoy the read!

"..."

Everything was silent around it. The slumber it had enjoyed seemed to have lasted [...]. The eternal bliss that it adored while in this state never ending, giving it a sense of universal “one-ness”. it had never felt so comfortable with its own life before. Even after matter and spirit, after it had exhausted all of its resources, after it gave everything a chance to feel what it felt, it did not falter. Wishing to share this feeling of self, this fullness inside, and doing just that in a matter of [...], it grew tired. Exhaustion began its process within its being. Disapproving of such a...helpless feeling, it instinctively did what seemed natural.

It fell into a deep sleep. How long it would take for such a large amount of energy to return to its body, it did not know. Nor, for that matter, did it care. Sleep was all it wanted, and for the eons afterward, it was rewarded just that. Smiling, it shut its heavy eyes on what it had done, cooing as it fell asleep. To be truly pleased with one's own work, to spread such a wonderful feeling around for every[...] to share. Now, that was a hard day's work gone to a perfectly good use.

Eternal slumber sounded wonderful, the mere concept of such a possibility to rest so long made it excited. So excited, as a matter of fact, that it would occasionally awake. Not to say that it wasn't a bad thing to wake up in the middle of the sleep either. It would look at what it shared for all, and smile as it grew...matured...evolved. Routinely nodding its head, it would fall to its side, the thud on the [...] making it smile brighter, the sound pleasing to its ears.

Exponentially, over the course of time, this happiness would continue to increase, and be consistently shared with all else whenever it woke up for its "daily check-up". Every period of waking, it would wag its moonlight-white tail to and fro, watching as time caused change. It yelled in anticipation whenever the highest peaks would spill over and pour a sort of red goop into the ever blue. It snapped its jaw in awe whenever the white fluff began to swirl, swirl, and swirl some more.

"What an amusing thing this place is!" it would think to itself. Of all that was, this place was the most fun, the most enjoyable. So much life, so much vivid color, everything felt so...exotic and foreign to it. Whenever it checked on the progress after another "nap", it would ponder.

"I should go...go...go...go..."

Before it would get any ideas, it would feel the exhaust and fatigue kick in again, and right in front of the destination, it would sleep some more.

And more...

And more still...

Such a life, to sleep, to play, to enjoy, it was fantastic to think about, and to live it was absolutely fabulous. Nothing...NOTHING could ever ruin this...it's too perfect for something to even imagine, even [...].

Even it, however, made mistakes. After all, it DID still have an infant-like mind that was slowly growing as it slept. The mistakes and problems that it ran into as a baby, and how it handled these problems, could return to haunt it.

"But, I'm perfect."

It knew not to go against [...], and that was the worst thing that had ever been manifested from it's thoughts. Provoking [...] was never a wise decision.

How naive, how simple-minded it must've been to foolishly believe that what it thought was truth. Regardless of its previous work, this simple thought would be the end of it...if it didn't shape up soon.

"..."

Anxiously, it awoke yet again, eager to see the progress its little "friend" was making.

It was horrifying. Blood painted the ground red, while fire blocked out the rays of light from reaching the ground below. The creatures slowly died from the heat, the pain, the exhaustion, the hunger.

"Stop it, STOP IT NOW!" it cried. The realization and shock value of the situation was too much for it to handle. It bellowed toward its friend, causing every hair on its body to stand on end, hoping that its action would cease the pain it had unknowingly created.

The roar only increased what the friend had already done. The deep blue began to swallow up the ground in certain spots, while in others, the ground began to rise. This plague stretched to the corners of the world, wiping out many of its friends in a matter of moments. The cries of its friends destroyed its will from the inside. Heartbroken, it roared once more in vain, crying out for its friends below, trying to get them to listen.

Not a soul heard its prayers.

It stopped every action at a new sensation it began to feel. Its mind stung with the loss of its friends, its body quivered as the ever blue and ground continued the massacre. It was utterly powerless, and realizing this, it began to weep in sorrow.

"W..what's this?" It questioned, feeling a warm sensation crawl down from its eyes to its muzzle. Its tongue lapped at its own face, soaking up the wetness that flowed from its eyes. Salty was another sensation it had never felt before, and even afterward, it still felt...foreign.

Refusing to look back at its friend in peril, it turned around to sleep yet again. A tear fell to its side, and onto the friend. It slept for much longer this time...

"..."

It suddenly snapped awake, body sore from sleeping too long in the same spot. It stood on all fours, and stretched out, and when it felt something snag its fur on its back, snapped back together immediately, startled at what had...touched it.

A large golden object surrounded its body, enclosed around its back and to its belly. It stared at the new item curiously. It looked beautiful. The gold color of the ring glistened whenever the light shone in onto its body, and the green pearls that rested at each "edge" of the ring complemented its eye color. Both the ring and the emerald started to shine brightly, engulfing the body in yet more light.

"..."

"I fell into sleep?" It questioned when its eyes opened yet again. Suddenly, its mind was opened to [...]. It was now mature, and it was finally ready to leave [...] be, and for the remainder of its life, sleep. It figured that it knew all.

With nothing left to be done but slumber, it readied itself. It turned around to get one last look at [...], when it caught a glimpse of something familiar. Glowing even brighter, stronger, and lively, was its friend. Rather than be fascinated by it, it gently smiled, realizing instantly what had happened. It scoped its old acquaintance one last time before leaving. A new creature had shown itself. Based on what it had witnessed, this creature had potential to strive anywhere. It appeared everywhere that it could see. The icy white blankets, the deep blue, the large masses of ground, and even portions of its friend that it didn't even knew existed. Again, it nodded, pleased with how well its friend was taking care of itself, and how well the creatures in turn, took care of its friend. A large smile stretched across its face as it slowly turned to walk away.

"Do what you will from this point on. I believe in you", it told its friend. "Don't do anything unnecessary."

It began to walk away, past its other pieces of work. There definitely was a reason to like its friend more than these. Lifeless, they floated around, accomplishing nothing of there own. Her friend however, flourished. It aged, it became wise, and at one point even amused it. It closed its eyes, and focused its energy on the new item that rested on its back. Light began to stretch across its body, giving it another feeling of warm sensation.

"I've learned from my mistake. NOW...I'm perfect..." It thought as it walked through the warm feeling, and disappeared.

"..."

You...you dare continue to believe in such foolishness? You've learned...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

This will NOT go unpunished. Maybe next time, you will be more disciplined. The next period of waking, will without a doubt be your last.

----------

Unknown to itself, this would be the last time it would experience...this type of waking...at least for now.

Slightly flustered, it stood up, shaking from its long rest, wondering where the friend had gone. The surrounding area was different from where it had last awakened. Memories of walking into the light returned to it, queuing it to look at its...surroundings. The light that it allowed itself to be consumed in was almost non-existent. It could see the light fading into the nothingness from the corners of its eyes. Something...different was happening to its body. It felt...strange, emotions from its earlier awakenings began to stir, and in moment’s time, exponentially increase to dangerous levels.

A terrible sensation forced its eyes wide, and it roared to itself in the coming darkness as a reflex to the sensation.

Pain.

Something it had never experienced before, and wished to never experience again. The damage was nowhere near over, another wave of the sensation striking it by surprise.

It heard a sound in the distance, from the light it had walked into to rest. The sound felt no better than the constant pain that surged throughout its body. However, at the same time, the noise called it, asking for help, guidance...and closure.

"My friend...I'm coming!!" it shouted across the vacuum of emptiness. With all of its might, it forced its body across the nothingness, dragging its apparent body across the shadows that were continuing to grow around it. Scraping across this material only multiplied the pain it felt, but it did't care for pain. Right now, the most important thing was the safety of its friend that it tried so hard to protect within its awakenings. It would worry about the pain later.

The ring that circled its mid-section swirled with energy, power was starting to store up within its body instinctively. The light was almost gone as it arrived. The ring sent a field of light around the area, forcing the darkness to the outer sections of the region. It flung its body into the center of the light, hoping that it wasn't too late.

Its friend was in turmoil, the feelings it had when it had awoken continued to increase. A warm liquid started to rain down its face again. It didn't seem to notice this however: saving its only friend was priority number one, and it wouldn't allow anything else to get in its way.

It was horrified at what it was witnessing.

As if the world had been sent to [...]. Fires erupted from large sections of the world. Large creatures fought fiercely in the sky, lightning crashing down onto the ground, harming everything it even grazed. Smaller creatures on the ground fled in terror, in fear. Others...

Other creatures began to prey upon their own kind. Sharp objects in hand, they mercilessly forced others onto the ground, and ended the victims through many means. Other creatures vicious enough slaughtered hundreds with the elements, others with brute strength. Shadows enveloped these creatures as they slowly butchered anything in their path.

These creatures would then give off an incredible sense of [...], and dissolve into nothingness.

"W...what is this..?" it said through its tears and pain. Its friend, painted in crimson and shadows, was falling to the darkness from where it had just escaped. It watched on helplessly as its friend was further consumed by the tainted essence of the vile creatures that polluted it.

Shame, sorrow, and an eternal sadness were quickly washed away. Something inside had been triggered. A new sensation to it. The ring on its back began to turn jet black as the feeling built up inside its body. The feeling of pain was gone, and now a new feeling had replaced it. This...fury was completely welcomed by it, and it allowed this feeling of rage to build to its maximum, until all it could feel was...hatred.

"Now...pay for your sins..." it roared in a devilish voice that screeched across the nothingness. The [...] that it used to breathe was cut off completely. It started to choke due to the lack of [...], and began to panic, trying to piece together exactly what was happening. It could think no longer, and the ring on its back was now almost cloaked in black, almost invisible when compared to the surrounding emptiness. It coughed deeply, trying to expel a buildup inside of its body, and within moments, felt a rush of heat shoot straight up into its mouth from its belly, and expel itself onto the floor in front of it.

Gasping for [...], it fell over onto its side. A new wave of sadness overwhelmed its body at what it had just done, and turned over to see what it had released from its body. Its heart beat faster as its eyes stared into the dark black substance that wiggled around. Slowly, it inched toward its friend, attracted by the darkness that consumed it.

"..."

It could not even think, but just watch as the substance drew ever closer to its only friend. The ring on its back, having returned to its normal golden color, started to fade, losing its shine, forcing most of the energy within it to be released into the surrounding area.

The substance stretched out toward the friend, and the darkness and shadows that covered the friend started to recede into the substance. This nourishment caused it to grow larger, and attain more mass as the tainted spirits were absorbed into its dripping appendages. This continued for a few more moments, until the friend was completely empty of this darkness. Unsatisfied, the substance turned back toward it, and began to approach, moving faster due to its previous meal.

"Stay back, I warn you!" it yelled, trying to bluff the enemy. It obviously wouldn't believe it for a second, as its movement continued to speed up. "Please...I didn't want this...”

Next time maybe you'll learn your lesson. Be gone!

It opened its mouth and aimed straight at the substance, gathering what little energy it had together. The ring on its back began to crack, as the shadows from behind it started to approach, closing in on the creature.

Everything it had created was now turning on it. Tears started to build up in its eyes as the energy continued to gather, all the while the substance approaching even faster. It screeched and bellowed, causing the [...] to rumble and quake.

"My friend...I will not let this happen again. I promise." it thought to itself, looking back onto its friend. Its clear blue sky and rich, green terrain forced a smile upon its face, while the tears continued to fall.

The ring finally gave in to the darkness, and shattered into pieces. Shards of the ring plummeted toward its friend, along with more tears that rained from its eyes. The darkness, shadows, hatred, the pain; everything was closing in on it. The pressure was too much for it to handle. With a roar, it released the energy, forcing a large beam from its mouth that shot toward the substance. It pierced its mass, and forced itself to the other side of the substance. The material stretched and rippled as the force of the beam incinerated bits and pieces of its "body", and let out a hollow cry of pain itself before receding back.

It was finished; there was nothing that could be done now.

"I...must..." it spoke. The substance charged once again at full force; only half of what it once was still intact. A direct attack onto its body assured by the substance's actions, it let out a sharp victory roar as it pounced onto its being.

Its eyes shot open in pain, the tears suddenly stopped. Its skin began to bubble as the substance came into contact, forcing out a mute shriek of pain. It unconsciously tossed and turned in [...] as it tried to repel the mass, but it was no use. The flesh began to tear like paper, blood flowing from its body, staining [...] in its deep red color. The mass began to feast on the poor thing, flesh and blood. Its body slowly disappeared and collapsed into itself as the mass fell onto it. Within seconds, the mass had finished its second meal, content with that which now rested inside it, for a few moments at least.

Forever wanting more, it turned toward the late being's friend, and with nothing but wicked intentions in its mind, slowly approached. Pieces of its ring rained down upon the friend. A shard of the ring specifically began to glow as it headed toward the surface.

This purple...plate, along with all of the remaining fragments of it, began to make impact, slamming into various regions of sky, sea, and ground. The shards thus began to take a deep rest, one which they looked forward to...as eternal.

The purple plate slammed into the ground, digging deep into the dirt. Surrounding it: trees, flowers, grass, and a lake. There it would remain dormant, as all the other pieces.

"When the time is right..."

That said, it fell into yet another sleeping period.

All that could be heard in [...] was the cackle of the substance as it continued its ominous march toward Earth.

----------

"In the beginning, there was only
a churning turmoil of chaos.
At the heart of chaos, where all
things became one, appeared an Egg.
Having tumbled from the vortex, the
Egg gave rise to the Original One.
From itself, two beings the Original
One did make.
Time started to spin.
Space began to expand.
From itself again, three living things
the Original One did make.
The two beings wished, and from them,
matter came to be.
The three living things wished, and
from them, spirit came to be.
The world created, the Original One
took to unyielding sleep...

...the wretched chaos
didn't find slumber
something enjoyable in the least.
....
the Original One awoke,
overwhelmed by the might of this darkness...
this Shadow, controlled by gluttony.
Flesh torn and pulled asunder,
the Original One shed it's immortal coil,
nearly consumed by the
shadows.

The Original One is gone,
the heavens are unstable-
in a panic-
but most importantly:
the domain is now open to the others..
...
Now,
let time and space warp around us,
let the spirit that moves us falter,
let the greats pull this world in twain,
onward to battle,
to fail,
to perish,
to eternity and back,
until the throne
is once again claimed.

Oh lord!
protect those
who wish to fight
for prosperity!

And send those...
who rise against you...
into an eternal pit of damnation!!"
