Chapter 2 - The Beginning is Always The Easiest Part
After packing nearly her entire bedroom into 6 separate bags from within the Lostlorn Breeder's home as per N's offer to provide her with a room within the business itself, Felicia was interrupted, by her little Litwick, from handing her bags to an employee of N, whom was hauling her bags towards N's Company's sleek black sports car with vertical doors. She could hear the curiosity and panic in his cries.
"Lit-Lit! Wiiiiiiiiiick!" it called out, it's flame burning hotter as it prepared to launch a Flame Burst at the N cronies.
"No, Litwick!" Felicia exclaimed. "It's okay, they're helping!"
"Lit?" the small candle pokemon probed, stopping as it h stood amidst the group. "Wick?" N watched it with curiosity as he leaned against the fancy black sports car.
"The green-haired man has offered us a job, doing breeding for his company. They're not trying to take our stuff." she assured the angry little candle. Litwick thinned it's eyes suspiciously at the cronies, and shuffled closer to Felicia. "You don't have to come, Litwick. You can stay here with Mrs Gennest, if you like." Litwick looked behind itself, towards the building he'd called home for a very long time. The little old lady had plenty of treats and tasty things to give him, and it was warm and safe in there; but, his best friend wouldn't be there. She was going with the man who hated trainers, and didn't like other people making pokemon fight, and the rest of his mindless cronies. His human couldn't see through the lot of them. N wasn't the one to be suspicious of; he was genuine. The others? He wasn't so sure. He glanced back to Felicia. The other humans were keeping a big secret from his human and even that green haired N fellow. He almost wished he were a Psychic-type, and not possessing the ability Psychic. He could have read their minds, or sensed the truth. But, that wasn't possible at all, not as a mere Ghost. He felt duty to stay, yet a responsibility to be with his human - his trainer, whether she liked to call herself that or not. He had to keep her safe at all times, but he had a duty to the wild pokemon, to keep them safe. If only he could split into two pokemon like Ninjasks; or be in two places at once, like those with Double Team. He looked back to the house. What was more important? His human, or his duty?
"Lit..." he cursed. He couldn't make his mind up. Either way, there would be a painful change which he needed to be stronger for. Great challenge awaited him at the end of both paths, and that didn't help his decision. What would Arceus do, he thought. Arceus wouldn't even have a human to be bound to, to begin with, and he'd follow his duties - but he DID have a human to care for. He had to stay, but he had to go. If he stayed, he'd lose her - if he left, the wild pokemon would be almost totally defenseless from predatory pokemon and selfish trainers. His head suddenly hurt, and his body felt tingly, and strange. Everything suddenly went pure white, and he could see nothing. He almost panicked, and cried out in fear, but as his voice changed, it all made sense.
"Litwiiiiiimpemt!" he spoke, blinking at his own voice. "Lampent? Lam? Pent? LAMPENT!" he exclaimed. Of course! He had evolved! His stress over his decision had made him evolve a whole level ahead of time! He hadn't planned on evolving any time in the future, but it seemed he'd had no choice. But now as his increased size and differed shape glanced around himself, noting the minute size changed of things around him due to him being twice his original size, everything made much more sense than they had before. He had to go with his trainer, there was no arguing that. The little old lady would surely replace him, and there would be a pokemon here soon that would protect the wild ones.
Felicia stared amazed at her pokemon. She'd had no idea he was anywhere near the level where he could evolve; mind you, she never actually fought with him or trained the little guy, so it must have come from years of fighting off wild pokemon and trainers' pokemon, protecting the breeding pokemon. If she were to get a hold of a Dusk Stone, she could have a fully evolved Chandelure. It's knowledge and strength would be a good asset as a protector of corporate level pokemon breeding.
"Lampent lam. Lam pent pent." he told her; in other words, he'd expressed his will to follow her even into the maw of hell, if it meant staying with his best friend. The intently shocked expression on N's face was apparent.
"Alright then; let's go!" she told the freshly evolved lamp as she stepped up beside N. The floating Lampent took a spot nearby them. "Where exactly are we going? Where's this company located, anyway?" she asked, as N turned to face her.
"It's still being arranged where the building will be. We are intending it to be at the Pokemon League. Nothing like a handful of strong trainers for free security, hmm?" he replied, trying not to sound awkward. "For now however, you can follow along with me as I travel along to take on the league itself. Just a precaution, you see. I need to be able to access every area if I need to, in case of emergency. Father's orders anyway, even if I do not like it."
Felicia frowned inwardly. He was going to break his own convictions to satisfy his father's wishes? Company or not, she could never imagine breaking her own convictions over something like that.
"That's cruel of him to make you do something like that just for some security clearance. Is it really worth it to you to do that and go against what you believe in?" N didn't answer immediately, as the pair of cronies got in to the vehicle behind N.
"...I have little choice. If I wish to be a part of this company, I must do as I am told. I must be able to walk freely through the Pokemon League if I am to have a business headquarters there. Thankfully, only I need to, as I will be in total control of the entire operation. Give a King permission, and you grant the whole country. Do you see what I mean?" he replied, a glimmer of something unidentifiably odd in his eyes.
"I get it. You're doing it so your entire company doesn't need to. Wow, that's a hard sacrifice to get done what you believe in, even if I don't totally understand the depth of your convictions." she raised her brow for emphasis, as if silently asking him to divulge.
"Rather like you and breeding trainer's pokemon for profits?" he countered, casting her a wary, yet playful expression. She grinned.
"Touche`. So, what exactly is your company called? What is it about? I guess it was a little impetuous to not ask that before agreeing to work for you..."
"I was waiting for you to ask that..." he replied, motioning his hand for her to follow him as he walked in an absent manner towards Nimbasa City. She hardly noticed the black car leaving in a different direction - with her clothing and belongings. She blinked and watched it leave, but shrugged and figured she would meet up with her things later on. "We are called Team Plasma, an organization dedicated to protecting innocent pokemon from he evil and horrible trainers that abuse them. Our goal is to rescue and remove those pokemon from those trainers, and return them to the wild to return to natural lives." he explained, knowing full well his wording was padding the fact that they intended to take every pokemon from every trainer in the world.
"So, where do I fit in to all this? Why would you need a breeder on staff?" Felicia asked, walking beside him at equal pace.
"You, my dear, will breed the strong and the rare, so I and my employees may repopulate the wild levels back to what they once were, and so we may protect ourselves against those that would try and stand against us. Fire against fire where need be, if you will. We cannot hope to achieve our means without meeting the evil ones on their own level."
"I suppose that makes sense - but is there no other way then to breed pokemon into captivity as well? I would be simply doing what I have always done, just on a much larger scale..." skillfully, N placed his hand on hers, turning to face her.
"I feel the same way, but if no one listens to our ideals, and decided to still injure and abuse their pokemon, what other choice will we have? Isn't it better that we, those who would not use or abuse pokemon, use them for the betterment of all pokemon worldwide, instead of those who would do nothing but harm them? What other choice would there be, except to defeat them in battle, and make them free the enslaved pokemon? Surely not everyone will do so voluntarily. These trainers are evil, after all."
Felicia frowned. It all made flawless sense, but something about it felt a hair wrong; but how wrong could disarming evil people of their pokemon be? Maybe she was just feeling misgivings because it was such a new and drastic change, that she felt little uneasy. "That does make sense, as little as I like it. I guess it's just on such a much larger scale than breeding the rare pokemon for trainers, and it feels wrong. I guess I'll get used to it. After all, most of them will be sent into the wild - right?" she conceded. N smiled warmly at her; she wasn't hard to convince at all. It was almost too easy. She had such an honest, sensitive heart.
"Exactly. But in the mean time, while we're waiting for the office to...complete, I'm killing time getting my gym badges. You can always spend a few more days with your old boss, but I thought you might value from witnessing the battles, to see why we must remove pokemon from evil people, to see why pokemon deserve to be wild. Certainly, you must be curious to see a gym battle at it's peak? Gym leaders are sometimes the worst perpetrators of pokemon abuse, this one especially"
"That's great and stuff," she nodded, liking the idea of witnessing a pokemon fight to further fuel her ambitions in her new job. "But where exactly did your cronies in the sports car take my things?" N smiled at her attention span. At the very least, she would provide some keen entertainment.
"They have been taken back to my RV. I can't exactly travel back to the office to sleep while trying to get gym badges every day, not with the traveling involved. I thought you would be interested in going with me, so I've sent it along to the RV. Would you like me to send your things back? I suppose I should have asked before making that assumption, I'm sorry, I-"
"No," she replied. As odd as it was to think of the prospect of sleeping in an RV with a guy she'd just met, it didn't seem all that dangerous. After all, she did have Lampent to protect her. The pokemon was listening to them intently, floating just behind them a ways. "It's fine. As long as it's not too squishy. If I'm going to travel with you, I'll need my clothes." something was nagging in the back of her mind, but what, she wasn't sure. He seemed honest and well intentioned, but something wasn't sitting right. She knew she'd be totally safe with N; but she didn't trust those cronies - neither had Litw- neither had LAMPENT, she corrected. She'd have to chat with him about that when N wasn't nearby to hear the conversation. It almost seemed like N was the center of something bigger than he thought. Maybe she was simply being paranoid, but the way they kept such close watch of N was more than a little odd. She shook her mind free of it; now wasn't the time to be thinking about such things; now was the time to enjoy being able to wander in the warm summer heat, being responsible for nothing more than her pokemon friend, and being on duty for nothing except following beside her new boss.

AN: Before you make comments about how abnormal it is to simply trust someone so much that you'd leave alone with them straight after meeting them, and taking some random job with some guy without even knowing anything about them, might I point out that this is totally normal, and is the trend throughout pokemon and its universe for this to be okay. Just look at Ash and who he has journeyed with! So just follow along that everyone is usually accepted at face value. After all, it's perfectly normal and safe for even toddlers to be by themselves or with a friend with naught but low level pokemon with them....Hell, they even let children become trainers and gym leaders in the pokemon universe. So it IS normal, just not outside of POKEMON...
