Chapter 2: Is This The End? Kanto Region Pt 1

The Kanto Region started taking up too many pages so I decided to chop it into two parts. I have taken liberties on the moves that some Pokémon learn, if you don't like that, just consider the Pokémon with those moves to be special cases. So you know, I'm using the age that Ash Ketchum SHOULD be.
I finally was able to get my master copy of the story again, so I'm not posting chapter 2. Chapter 3 will be posted in exactly 1 month, or when I have chapters 4 and 5 written.

Chapter 2: Is This The End? Pt. 2 The Kanto Region, Part 1

Kanto Region

After the Sinnoh League Tournament, and the day after my birthday, I boarded the first ship available to take me to the Kanto Region. I arrived at the port of Vermillion City only a couple weeks after I left. Once there, I boarded a smaller ship to take me to Pallet Town, the hometown of my hero, Ash Ketchum.

The trip to Pallet Town was pretty uneventful, for the most part, I got into some great battles, but the trainers on board weren’t nearly as strong as me so I couldn’t really cut loose. However, I could have sworn I saw Articuno as we passed by the Seafoam Islands.

Five days after boarding the ship bound for Pallet Town, we arrived. The first thing I did was head over to the Lab of Professor Samuel Oak, one of the most brilliant Pokémon Researchers of our time.

When I met the Professor, and his assistant, Tracy, he recognized my name immediately. He went on and on about my thesis on the intelligence of Pokémon and even offered me a job, which I declined. After a couple hours of discussing my thesis, he informed me that he was going over to the Ketchum Residence for dinner and asked me to come along, how could I say no?

So I met Delia Ketchum and learned so many things about her son, Ash, that I could have written a series of novels. I also got to see Ash’s trophies and gym badges from all of the different regions. After dinner, Professor Oak invited me to stay at his lab for the night since they didn’t have a local Pokémon Center, I accepted his invitation.

The next day, Professor Oak asked me if I would keep my ears open for any word about Ash Ketchum, both Oak and Ash’s mother were very worried about him. I told him that I would in exchange for a small favor; allow me to keep my extra Pokémon at his lab. Honestly, though, it was more like a favor to him, he was extremely curious about my Pokémon from Sinnoh. He agreed, so then I had to decide who to leave in his care. I decided that I’d keep Monko and Buns with me and left the others with Professor Oak. With that done, I was ready to go, sort of. I asked Professor Oak to phone ahead to the Pewter Gym, the destination for my first gym battle, and ask the current gym leader to prep some of their stronger Pokémon for my arrival in about three weeks.

Now that all my preparations were complete, I headed north on Route 1 to Viridian City, the trip taking only a week. I spent a day in Viridian City stocking up on Antidotes, just in case the Weedle and Beedrill in Viridian Forest were stronger than expected.

So after my day of shopping, I entered Viridian Forest. Two days in I ran into the most beautifully colored Pidgey I had ever seen, it’s feathers were a golden color with green tints. Apparently I’m a magnet for Shiny Pokémon, go figure. The Pidgey was being ganged up on by some impressively big Beedrill, so I had Monko fight them off. The Pidgey was horribly wounded; it looked like it was barely alive and had been poisoned, so I used a couple Potions and an Antidote on it. The Pidgey was very thankful and when I asked if it wanted to join me on my journey, it nodded its little head; and that’s how I caught Flaps, one of the few male Pokémon I’ve caught.

I continued to travel through Viridian Forest, training Flaps, who quickly evolved into a Pidgeotto. I also taught Flaps Rain Dance and Hidden Power, which came out to be a Water type attack, which I thought was pretty interesting, and lucky.

Eleven days after meeting Flaps, I arrived in Pewter City, and the next day I challenged the Gym Leader, Flint, to a Gym Battle. He said that he had been waiting and hoped that I was as good as I claimed, or this match would be really boring.

Flint’s first Pokémon was a mid-level Graveler, so I sent out Flaps. Flint started laughing saying that I couldn’t possibly expect to win if I used a Flying type. I just told him that we’d find out soon enough. The match started and my first move was Rain Dance, Flint’s first move was Rock Polish. I then told Flaps to use Hidden Power, and it hit Flint’s Graveler, hard. It did like twelve times the amount of damage it would have done without modification from Rain Dance, being super-effective against both Rock AND Ground types, and scoring a Critical Hit. Flint’s Graveler was knocked out with that one shot, much to Flint’s surprise.

He congratulated me on using such a great combination before sending out a high-level Golem that I knew Flaps couldn’t possibly beat, so I sent out Monko. I think Flint realized that Monko was my strongest Pokémon so as soon as Monko got up close to use Close Combat, he told his Golem to use Explode. Monko had only a couple seconds to get away, but because the ground was slippery from the rain that was still pouring from Rain Dance, he slipped and was caught in the blast. The judge declared that both of our Pokémon were unable to battle. Needless to say, I was a little nervous knowing that whatever came next would probably be too strong for Flaps, and might even be too strong for Buns, even though she was only a couple levels lower than Monko.

We called out our last Pokémon, and I gave a sigh of relief when I saw the Aerodactyl, I had an ace up my sleeve. I had Buns use Agility to increase her speed while dodging the Aerodactyl’s Ancient Power attack. That’s when I realized that Buns was having a hard time using her attacks though and that Flint’s Aerodactyl’s special ability must be Pressure. Aerodactyl used Iron Head, and I considered having Buns try to dodge, but I told her to roll with it. My gambit paid off, Buns’ Cute Charm special ability took effect, leaving a nice big opening. I knew what to do. “Buns use Ice Punch!” I yelled, and Buns’ paw started to glow a pale blue as she hopped onto Aerodactyl’s back and punched it with all her might in the neck. The two of the crashed into the floor, Aerodactyl was knocked out and Buns was barely conscious. I had just won my first Kanto Gym Badge!

Flint just stood there for a couple minutes before shaking his head and telling me that was the best battle he’d ever been in and that I had the potential to become a great Gym Leader if I wanted to become one. I told him that maybe someday I would settle down and become a Gym Leader, but for now, I just wanted to see the world and meet and train Pokémon.

I stayed in Pewter City for a couple days after that Gym Battle. I went to see the local museum and learn more about Pokémon Fossils. But I couldn’t stay for long, I wanted to go meet and battle the Cerulean Gym Leader, Misty, another of Ash’s former traveling partners.

So I headed off to Mt. Moon, hoping to see a Clefairy, what I found instead was much better. I caught a Paras that I ended up naming Shrooms, yet another male Pokémon, and one that I was sure Bumbles would love to get to know. Shrooms turned out to be one of the sweetest and most caring Pokémon I have ever met, and he quickly evolved into a Parasect. I didn’t find much in Mt. Moon, except a Skull Fossil, to my utmost surprise, and the trip through the mountain and to Cerulean City lasted about two weeks.

When I arrived in Cerulean City, I was immediately greeted by Misty, once again to my surprise. She walked me to the Pokémon Center while we talked and was very interested to hear about my journey. What surprised me most of all was when she offered me a room at the Gym to stay in while I was in Cerulean City, I graciously accepted her offer.

When we arrived at the Gym after my Pokémon were healed, I was taken aback by how many Water Pokémon she had. There were all kinds, most were from the Kanto and Johto regions, but I also saw some from Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos. What struck me as odd, though, was that she had a Togekiss, but then I remembered that she had a Togepi, so I guessed that it had evolved. I looked at her and asked if I could make a request on which Pokémon I would face in our Gym Battle. She looked at me surprised, but then agreed that I could choose one, but then we would have a four vs four match. I agreed and chose the Togekiss, surprising her even more.

I stayed the night and we had our Gym Battle the next morning. The field was half pool and half grassland.

Misty’s first Pokémon was a mid-level Palpitoad, so I sent out Flaps. Misty had her Pokémon use Rain Dance, I knew she would, so I had Flaps use Wing Attack to get up close and then use Hidden Power. Wing Attack missed, but Hidden Power didn’t, though it wasn’t the most powerful attack, it still did a good deal of damage. Palpitoad used Sludge Bomb, squaring a direct hit on Flaps and Poisoning him, so I knew I needed to end this fight, quick. I told Flaps to dive bomb Palpitoad with Wing Attack while firing rapid fire Hidden Powers. The Hidden Power attacks kept Palpitoad stationary while Flaps dropped from the sky, wings tucked in and turning blue. Within feet of hitting Palpitoad, Flaps opened his wings and his whole body turned red, I watched in awe as Flaps hit Palpitoad with Brave Bird, instead of Wing Attack. After the smoke cleared, the referee declared both Pokémon unable to battle.

Misty’s second Pokémon was a mid-level Starmie and I sent out Shrooms. Misty’s Starmie used Rapid Spin and I told Shrooms to brace for the hit and release a Spore attack on impact. The plan worked perfectly; though Misty’s Starmie was a lot more powerful than I thought and almost one shot Shrooms by scoring a Critical Hit. With Starmie asleep, Shrooms started hitting it with Fury Cutter, one after another, by the time Starmie woke up, it was badly damaged and another Fury Cutter would end it. Misty had other plans, she told Starmie to use Recover, but it wasn’t enough, the next Fury Cutter hit, scoring a Critical Hit. Starmie was out for the count, but Shrooms looked exhausted. I returned Shrooms to his Pokeball and Misty returned Starmie.

Misty wasn’t done yet, though, and she sent out Togekiss, who was pretty high level. I considered sending out Monko, but then remembered that Togekiss wasn’t a Normal and Flying type Pokémon, but a Fairy and Flying type Pokémon, so I sent out Buns instead. I had Buns use Agility to try and dodge an Aura Sphere, but she was still hit. The situation didn’t look to good, Buns was hurt pretty bad and Misty’s Togekiss was charging up a Dazzling Gleam attack, but then it hit me. I told Buns to charge dual Heal Pulses and use them on herself. Buns’ Heal Pulse finished charging right before Togekiss finished charging Dazzling Gleam, and healed herself before diving into the water to dodge Togekiss’s attack. I knew that Ice Punch might one shot Togekiss, but I knew of another move that would all but guarantee me the win. I told Buns to use Return. She jumped out of the water glowing bright white and hit Togekiss. Togekiss barely survived, to my surprise, until I saw the Focus Sash and cursed under my breath. Togekiss used Return in retaliation, almost knocking out Buns. Misty and I told our Pokémon to use Return again, and our Pokémon collided, kicking up a dust cloud. We waited only a couple minutes for the dust to settle, but it felt like an eternity, and when it did, Buns was still standing, albeit barely, while Misty’s Togekiss was completely knocked out.

Misty recalled Togekiss and sent out a high-level Walrein, and Buns fainted before I could call her back or have her use Heal Pulse again. I returned Buns and sent out Monko, knowing that if she didn’t win, then I had lost, even if Shrooms was still able to battle. Misty threw me a heavy coat and put one on herself, before telling her Walrein, “Do it.” Walrein used Hail as I quickly donned the heavy coat, telling Monko to use Mach Punch followed by Rock Smash and ending with Close Combat. Before I knew what happened, Monko was across the field, walloping on Misty’s Walrein. Apparently Monko had two special abilities, Blaze and one that increased speed when it Hailed, I’m guessing, because Monko was moving almost faster than the eye could see. Misty was stunned by the ferocity of Monko’s attack, telling Walrein to use Water Pulse at the last second. Somehow, Monko survived the attack, and all I know is that when the water hit her, it turned to steam as her Blaze special ability was activated. I told her to use Flame Wheel, but instead of becoming surrounded by red, yellow, and orange flames, she became surrounded by pure white flames that were so hot that they melted the Hail before it could even fall. Monko attacked, but not with Flame Wheel, no, she hit with a new attack, Flare Blitz, and sent Walrein flying, covered in Burns and knocked out. Monko stood there for a moment, panting heavily as Blaze deactivated. Misty recalled Walrein as I ran up to Monko and hugged her tight, not caring that she was still blisteringly hot, though I would come to regret it.

As Misty approached to give me my badge, the heat radiating from Monko caught the heavy coat I was wearing on fire. I don’t know what happened next, I blacked out.

I woke up a week later in a hospital bed, covered in small 1st degree burns, which puzzled me until Misty told me that after putting the fire out, she healed Buns with a Revive and had her use Heal Pulse on me while the referee called 911. I thanked her profusely and asked if there was anything I could do to pay her back. She gave me a hungry look, one of those looks that I would receive from Gardenia, Maylene, and Candice, but she just shook her head and told me that it was the least she could do after the spectacular battle we had.

A week later I was allowed to leave the hospital, and I was about to leave Cerulean City, but then I remembered that look Misty had, so I decided to go see her.

It turned out that Misty wasn’t looking for someone to have sex with; she just wanted someone to cuddle up with. Ever since Ash disappeared, she had been having horrible dreams of him being frozen by an attack from a great dragon. At the time, I didn’t put much stock into it, but now I wish I had.

I left Cerulean the next day and headed towards Vermillion City, I didn’t catch any new Pokémon on the way, but the trip still took two weeks. I hadn’t even stopped at Saffron City for a day.

Upon reaching Vermillion City, I checked in at the Pokémon Center, and since the day was still young, I went ahead and went to the Pokémon. I challenged Lt. Surge to a Gym Battle as soon as I walked through the door.

He looked me over once, before smiling. He told me that he had been expecting me and that our Gym Battle would be a one on one. I agreed and he showed me to the battlefield. It was a simple, basic League Regulation field, no rocks, plants, or water, just dirt.

Lt. Surge sent out an immensely powerful Raichu and I sent out Monko, knowing that she would be the only one fast enough, strong enough, to even come close to beating Lt. Surge’s Raichu. I told Monko to use Fire Spin and Lt. Surge had his Raichu use Thunder. The attacks collided in midair, sending dust everywhere. I was hoping for that to happen, and as the dust cleared, Monko was nowhere to be seen. A second later, Monko came out of the ground right underneath Raichu, hitting with a Dig attack. Raichu retaliated with a powerful Brick Break, but Monko was too fast, deflecting the attack with a Rock Smash. Lt. Surge and I watched as our Pokémon duked it out; Raichu using combinations of Mega Punch, Rock Smash, and Brick Break while Monko used combinations of Mach Punch and Rock Smash. After a couple minutes, they separated, both of the panting hard, and that’s when I noticed something that could cost us the win. Raichu’s special ability, Static, had Paralyzed Monko. This wasn’t good, Blaze hadn’t activated yet and Monko was slowing down quicker than Raichu.

Lt. Surge laughed and told Raichu to use Thunderbolt, I told Monko to get out of the way, but the Paralysis decided to strike at that moment, and Monko was sent flying. Monko got up slowly and looked me in the eye. I recognized that look and I nodded. Monko turned and faced Raichu as Blaze activated. Monko shrouded herself in brilliantly white flames that burned the dirt beneath her, and charged. Raichu, realizing that this would be the final attack either would launch, shrouded itself in blue electricity and charged. Monko and Raichu collided, Monko using a Blaze enhanced Flare Blitz and Raichu using Volt Tackle, and there was an explosion that was so loud and powerful that it blew out the windows of all the buildings and vehicles within a one mile radius, and causing all kinds of car alarms to go off. As the dust settled, the Referee declared the match a tie when it became obvious that our Pokémon had blacked out on impact, leaning against each other.

Lt. Surge and I just stood there for a minute, completely stunned, and temporarily deaf, before returning our Pokémon. We tried to speak to each other, but it quickly became obvious that neither of us could hear the other so we waited for the ringing in our ears to stop.

Lt. Surge told me that the only person to ever go toe to toe with his Raichu and win was Ash Ketchum’s Pikachu, and that I had come extremely close to winning. He handed me the Thunder Badge after deliberating for a couple minutes, and asked if I would battle him again sometime. I told him that I would come back and battle him once this year’s Indigo League Tournament had been concluded. I would keep that promise.

I spent the next couple of days in Vermillion City, fishing, and on the second day, I caught myself a female Poliwag that I named Tadko.

I left the next day, heading back north to Cerulean City since there was construction blocking Route 11. The trip took me seventeen or eighteen days, and during that time, Tadko evolved into a Poliwhirl. Luckily, or unluckily, depends on your perspective, for me, it was mating season for Tadko. So I spent a week in Cerulean, staying with Misty at the gym, satisfying Tadko at night, while Misty and I trained Tadko during the day.

Once mating season ended after those seven days, I headed east from Cerulean City on Route 9. After a week of traveling, I arrived at Rock Tunnel and the region’s main Power Plant, where I swear I saw Zapdos.

I hadn’t even entered Rock Tunnel when I was jumped by an Elekid. I battled it with Shrooms for a little bit before putting it to sleep with Spore, and then I caught it. After Elekid woke up, I found out that it was girl (lucky me, right?) and I named her Ria’na. It would take a while, but she would eventually warm up to me.

When I entered Rock Tunnel it was pitch black after ten feet, so I had Ria’na come out and used a TM to teach her Flash. Now that I was able to see, thanks to Ria’na, I headed deeper inside. After a couple days of walking, at least according to my watch that told me time and date, we ran into a Cubone. I used the same strategy to catch Cubone as I had used to catch Ria’na. It turned out that Cubone was also a girl, so I named her Tera.

Five days after catching Tera, we finally made it out of Rock Tunnel and spent the next day sliding down the mountain to Lavender Town. We only stayed in Lavender Town for a day before heading west, at which point it struck me, “Why didn’t I just head east when I entered Saffron City the second time instead of going back north?” However, I didn’t, and I still don’t, regret my decision.

It took two weeks to get from Lavender Town to Celadon City, in which time Tera evolved into a Marowak and learned a couple new moves. I was very proud of her.

We were so tired when we reached Celadon City, that we didn’t even go to look for the gym, we got a room at the Pokémon Center, ate, and went to bed, all cuddled up into a ball of Pokémon and a human.

The next day I went to the Celadon Department Store and bought a Water Stone, in case Tadko decided she wanted to evolve into a Poliwrath. Afterwards, I went to the Celadon City Gym and challenged Erika to a Gym Battle. She agreed, but asked if we could wait until the next day so she could prepare and if it could be a four vs four match. Apparently she didn’t get the memo about how strong my Pokémon were, so I agreed.

The next day I headed to the Gym, knowing exactly who I would be sending out that day, Monko, Flaps, Buns, and Shrooms, though I wasn’t sure what order I’d send them out in.

When I arrived at the Gym, there was a sign on the door. I read it and found that Erika wanted me to go around back and enter through the back door of the greenhouse, I did as it said.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in through the back door into the greenhouse was Erika standing there on the other side of a plant covered battlefield, completely naked from head to toe. I stopped, completely shocked, and that’s when she told me that at her gym, both the Gym Leader and the challenger battled without clothes on. I hesitated a minute before taking off my clothes, expecting to see Erika blush, but she never did. I became even more nervous when the referee came out, a blonde girl no more than sixteen, and was also naked. It took a couple minutes to realize that Erika was saying something to me, so I looked back at her to see that she had already sent out an upper mid-level Meganium. I fumbled for a Pokeball, only to realize that they were attached to the belt on the jeans I had just taken off. I bent over and grabbed Shrooms’ Pokeball and sent him out.

Erika immediately had her Meganium use Reflect and Light Screen. I told Shrooms to use Fury Cutter, but it barely did anything. That’s when I realized what was going on, Erika tried to break her challenger’s concentration by having herself and the challenger nude, and apparently the referee was in on it. I swallowed, shook my head, and told Shrooms to keep using Fury Cutter. Meganium used Sunny Day after the third Fury Cutter and followed it up with a point blank Solarbeam that sent Shrooms flying across the field. Despite how powerful the attack was, however, Shrooms barely felt it and charged at Meganium, dodging Razor Leaf attacks, and hit again with Fury Cutter. Meganium’s Reflect broke and the Fury Cutter caused massive damage to it. I thought I had just about won, but then Meganium used Synthesis, healing all the way to full health before unleashing a second point blank Solarbeam that was somehow stronger than the first. That time, Shrooms was hurt as he crashed into a tree and was stunned for a couple seconds. Shrooms charged again, this time both claws glowing. I thought he was using a double Fury Cutter, but right before he reached Meganium, he slashed his claws in front of himself in an ‘X’ which hit Meganium hard enough that it went flying and crashed through a tree, knocked out.

Erika recalled Meganium, praising it for its effort before sending out her next Pokémon, a Bellossom. Since Shrooms seemed as though he was still able to fight, I didn’t recall him to his Pokeball. That would turn out to be a mistake. Before I could even call out a command, Erika’s Bellossom used a powerful Sludge Bomb that hit Shrooms right in the face, knocking him out. I recalled Shrooms and sent out Flaps, figuring that he’d be fast enough to dodge most of Bellossom’s ranged attacks.

I told Flaps to start off with Rain Dance, countering the Sunny Day that was still in effect. As it started to pour, Flaps became shrouded in a bright white light and evolved into a Pidgeot. Before I could say anything more, Erika’s Bellossom started launching rapid fire Energy Balls. Flaps countered with a new move, Hurricane, the attack whipped up the Energy Balls as it headed towards Bellossom who tried to counter with a Leaf Storm, but it was also sucked up into it. The attack hit Bellossom with an explosion that shattered all the windows. Before the glass could hit anyone, however, a Psychic attack stopped the shards and quickly set them down in a pile outside. I looked over to see that the referee had called out a Medicham, which I was thankful for. I turned back to the battle to see that Bellossom was knocked out and Erika was recalling it to its ball.

Erika sent out her third Pokémon, a very strong looking Abomasnow and the rain coming from the clouds immediately turned to Hail, pummeling Flaps who was tired from both evolving and using an attack as powerful as Hurricane. I called Flaps back so he could rest in reserve and sent out Monko, since I remembered that Abomasnow was both a Grass and Ice type Pokémon. Monko took to the field and immediately started to glow. Monko charged forward at near Mach speed to deliver a devastating Mach Punch to Abomasnow’s face. Abomasnow, however, just shrugged and hit Monko in the chest with an even more powerful Wood Hammer attack, sending Monko flying into a tree. Monko hopped down to the ground right as it started to shake, Abomasnow had just used Earthquake. A crevice opened up underneath Monko and she fell in. The next thing I knew, there was bright flash and Monko came hopping out of the crevice, shrouded in white fire. I told her to use Flare Blitz, and she complied, hitting Abomasnow with enough force that she could have theoretically went through a concrete wall that was six inches thick. Abomasnow was knocked out, and Monko was barely standing, both arms hanging limp.

Erika recalled Abomasnow and sent out her fourth, and final, Pokémon, a high-level Ludicolo. Knowing that Monko was basically defeated, I recalled her and sent out Buns. Ludicolo used Rain Dance, which melted the Hail and turned it back into rain, while I had Buns use Agility to boost her speed. Buns then charged forward and slid underneath Ludicolo, delivering a powerful Low Sweep that was made even more powerful by how slick the ground was. Ludicolo fell over backwards and started moving like a turtle stuck on its back. I told Buns to use Return. Buns started glowing and jumped high, coming down onto Ludicolo and driving her shoulder into its stomach. Ludicolo twitched for a second before the referee declared that it was unable to battle and that I had won. I jumped into the air forgetting that the ground was wet and fell flat on my ass as I slipped when I came down. Buns ran over to me to help me up, and then noticed that I didn’t have any clothes on and started to blush, stopping only inches away from me. I asked her to help me up, and when she hesitated, I told her it was ok. She helped me up and hugged me close, missing the feel of my skin on her fur… I honestly had been missing the same thing…

Erika came over, shaking her head, to hand me the Rainbow Badge, but she surprised me when she asked if I would stay for a couple days to help satisfy all her Pokémon that were in heat. I turned bright red and merely nodded.
