Chapter 2: Take Over: Angel Soul
At that time Angel moved in the direction of the current own guild whereabouts.
"Something didn't work out?" Cobra greeted her on what she just send him killing glare.
"And you said that this isn't demanding mage," he continued when he started to walk beside her.
"Maybe I little miscalculated and that is why I lost," she replied clearly mad.
"But you came anyway," he said. "Or does he took your keys?"
"I still have all. I'll get his soon," stopped and sat down. "Damn spirits of the Ancient Zodiac."
"Say what?" poison slayer raised an eyebrow.
"He had two fucking spirits of that zodiac and one very annoying," angrily threw her bunch of keys on the ground.
"If it was a dragon slayer I wouldn't have problems to beat him," he said and stroked gently head of his cobra.
"I need to learn more about him and take revenge. Take his keys and not just mumbling some nonsense about oaths," she started to mumble under her breath.
"Oath?" he looked at her.
"It doesn't matter. When he fall defeated all agreements goes void," she got up and walked toward the keys. "Now leave me alone."
"As you wish. Come Cubellios," he said and walked away. Cobra obediently started to follow him.
When he left for a long time she was staring at the ground on the lying keys and then picked them up and looked around. Fortunately, master wasn't nowhere near so she went to eat something and then went back to the tent, which was currently occupied by her.
"Angel," she muttered holding taken from a nearby cabinet a few snow-white feathers. For time beings let go the recent time events and again started to ponder about the winged creatures.
A week or maybe two ago, during the night a noise woke her up. When she got up and went outside couldn't see much but the forest surrounding their camp. When she turned almost screamed when bumping into Cobra, which with short wave of hand silenced her seemly listening to the silence that was surrounds them. The moment started to extend endlessly when without a word he started walk directly in the nearby bushes in front of him, leaving her alone. Then she heard something like flapping wings coming somewhere near the more or less direction that disappeared dragon slayer.
Not thinking much headed in that direction from time to time to hearing this flapping wings in front of her or following ahead other mage. After ten maybe fifteen minutes later she heard slayer stopping. When still running in his direction almost caught herself leaving bushes to jump into small clearing saw as he stood in front of some being.
It was a little higher than them, dressed in something resembling habit that covered most of it body even face concealed hoods shadow. The only thing not covered were two pairs of wings covered with bright colored feathers.
For a moment the three of them stood still until Cobra didn't attack using his magic. Being moved almost immediately, however, the first attack was able to hit it in the shoulder and located behind wing. Despite it didn't let any groan just quickly spread wings and soared into the air. The next few spells unfortunately missed it before it disappeared somewhere above them.
For a moment they stood when Cobra decided to return to the camp mumbling something that whoever was this creature should no longer try to sneak up on them that night. Angel left alone went to the place where until recently stood being looked around and crouched. On the ground lay scattered few feathers, some of them already partially predigested by the poison. Carefully gathered up a few that seemed to be intact and slowly walked back toward camp.
Putting feathers back into the cabinet she got up of bed and went to the fire. Several days later, along with the rest of the guild attacked a small village. When the rest was still busy replenishing supplies Angel started looking if she can find local mage house. This time it turned out that indeed there was one, however, the interior looked like someone had left it in a hurry recently. Entering she started to look around the room.
"So that wasn't some traveling mage but he lived here," said Midnight standing in the doorway. "Have he something interesting?"
"No. Just some useless tra..." interrupted when her eyes fell on a book lying on top of one of the stacks of the books. On the cover was illustrated with something that looked like being in the habit wearing two pairs of wings growing out of it back.
"What are you've seen?" asked on what she didn't answered slowly walking to a stack of books. Then slowly bent down and picked up the book.
"Take Over magic," said Brain, before which Midnight step back when the master slowly walked to the celestial spirits mage. "This book seems to have one of its subspecies."
"Subspecies?" Angel muttered still staring almost mesmerized at the cover of the book.
"Yes," without saying anything with fast move snatched book from her hands. "I know of at least twelve of its subspecies and there are rumors that may be another two more."
"There are so many kinds of Take Over magic?" Midnight asked.
"Slayers magic also have many subspecies each, right? Going back to the book seems to" paused for a moment and browsed fast pages, "refers to angelic soul subtype," he finished closing it, from which she doesn't turn away sight.
"What else are beside soul of the beast, satan, animal, plant and angelic?" female mage asked.
"Soul of the machina and weapon are the two that were created by mine institute... when it still existed," at the memory of that place Brain smiled a little. "Besides there are celestial, infernal and golem soul. Very rare ones includes chimeric and dragon souls."
"And these two existing in rumors?" this time Midnight asked.
"Dark and human soul. Though I think both are just a figment of the imagination of the insane mages. No one ever has reported their existence," he looked at female mage. "Are you interested in this particular book?"
For a moment she was silent, thinking before she answered firmly, "Yes."
"Then take it," he said throwing her book, "and destroy the rest before you leave this room."
"Yes Master," she said and after waiting until the master with Midnght leave her alone called scorpion and ox. Without wasting much time commanded both to use all their available power to level the building and then left the room. Five minutes later, almost clutching in her hand a book looked at the rubble that remained after a small house that was dead mage apartment.
"What have you got there?" when they left town approached her poison slayer.
"Book with interesting magic," said still holding it in her hands.
"Which one?" To which he replied only. "The magic of take over with angel soul."
He noted that any attempt to continue conversation can be difficult seeing her quite absent gaze Cobra just said to her to hide it before she loose it somewhere along the way. When they stopped for the night sitting in front of his tent Angel finally opened the book and using the light that still provided setting down sun began to read. Some of the other members of the guild only looked at her briefly before they returned to their own affairs.
"Was it good letting her take that book?" Midnight asked master sitting down next to just set up bonfire.
"Her dream was to become an angel. This magic won't hurt her. Thou learning magic itself is not enough," said Brain. "She will have to find some beings, which form would take over using that magic."
"How long could it take?"
"Days, weeks, months, years. Everything will depend on the luck. Some of the subtypes are easier to use because of the ease of finding objects to take over. Some like the dragon soul are almost useless," mused a moment. "Unless someone finds still alive dragon. So pretty useless but if one of them going to track down a dragon things starts to be interesting," he lost himself in thoughts.
"Have you ever father meet such mage?"
"Maybe," Brain was still deep in thought. Only after a long pause he said a little more. "When I was at the institute, a man brought his son saying that he was suffering from an uncontrolled changes. Pretty soon we came to the conclusion that it was one of the take over subtypes. However the most interesting findings seems to be in terms of subtype of this magic."
"I guessing it was a dragon soul," said the younger men.
"Of course but it was puzzling how such a young child could encounter the dragon and yet survive it along with getting chance to take over it form and what is still more strange to know such magic in such young age."
"To what kind of dragon he was similar?" Cobra asked sitting down next to them.
"After effects, which we registered in moments of uncontrolled changes it was defined as a form of taking over some ice dragon," Brain looked in his direction. "Why are you so curious about take over magic?"
"Not it. But if somewhere there existed or still linger an ice dragon then there must also be an ice dragon slayer," smiled poison mage. "So I will find him and kill him."
"If some of them still live and not die in any battle or of old age," joked Midnight.
"It is possible that it just might be feasible. After 'resigning' of my job at the institute reached me rumors that in one of the legal guilds are few such mages," master throw new wood piece to the fire.
"Several ice dragon slayers in one guild? Even having two slayers in any one guild is a feat. Dragon's lacrimas aren't so easy to get," dark mage looked towards purple-haired companion.
"One of the dark guild was under our 'allies' in alliance Balsam also reportedly has more than 1 dragon killer in their ranks," said Brain. "So some legal guild could do it too."
"Which dark guild do you mean?" Midnight asked.
"Alpha Omega. Not very conspicuous but their master allows for a lot of 'less legitimate' magical experiments of his subordinates."
"And this kid, which you was researching. What was his name?" Cobra asked after he petted the cobra, which crawled to him and then laid next to him.
"Something like Arak or Arik Falcon or Raven. Besides with the rest of the people was killed under the rubble of the institute," shrugged silver-haired mag and turned his head hearing a noise somewhere near behind. Angel stood there, who quickly shake of the shook and bent on to lying on the ground in front of her open book. "What happened?"
"Nothing. I just stumbled and dropped the book while walking," she said standing up.
'Arik Raven? If this celestial spirits mage and that take over mage, who died under the rubble are the same person... "she mused. 'So I have to learn as quickly as possible this new magic even it basics.'
She walked quickly to his tent. After a quarter of an hour through the entrance to inside peeked purple cobra. And after a while, stepped back to allow free entrance of his owner.
"What happened out there by the fire? You're not clumsy enough to stumble," said Cobra sitting at the entrance to the tent.
"Arik Raven," she said, trying not to speak louder than a whisper.
"That's the name of that kid, whose master has studied many years ago," he said.
"This celestial mage who recently beat me introduced himself with the same name. The possibility that there were two men calling themselves the same way is so slim especially if both have the magical ability then..." she paused.
"But that kid was killed under the rubble," he said and paused for a moment. "The Master said that he had the ability to change into a dragon. Their are as far I know pretty damn tough. So, if he accidentally turned into it at the time when the building was falling down," he said.
"He could survive," finished Sorano. "But to became celestial spirits mage. It's weird."
"Maybe he got hit too hard by some piece of debris," laughed dragon slayer.
"When we were fighting he said that he could easily beat me and take by force keys. Celestial mages aren't so strong to be good at close combat and I haven't heard that the magi as I specialized in other types of magic already having access to the keys," she mused.
"Then he could be that take over mage," said Cobra and started to get up. "If you ever venture on another meeting with him, let me know. Even if he isn't one of the dragon slayers and just owns magic keys he could help me to find the real one."
"For now I have to learn this magic. If he can actually take the form of a dragon I can't face him again without knowing that magic," she looked at the book lying in front of her. "I'll tell you when I go in search of him. In the meantime, good night."
"Good night," said purple-haired mage and left her tent.
A few hours later, somewhere between Magnolia and Blue Pegasus guild building
"Wonderful my child," said Elvira sitting on one of the seats. On the second of the three sat without any noticeable features young man not having more than twenty-three or four years. The last of the seats was occupied by a green haired young woman.
"As promised my lady I taught her take over: human soul magic," said male cursed. "But as soon as possible she'll need to obtain any form to mask her magic true subtype."
"Of course. But she isn't ready yet to leave the property and go hunt. Although I'm pleased that the training ended sooner than you expected," said the older cursed and looked toward her daughter. "Do you remember dear what you need to do as soon as you go to one of your first hunting?"
"Dark as night Mother," said Karen. "I have to find a mage who knows any subtype of the take over magic. As a result, no one will know that I know the version that uses human forms. I can't wait for the night when I can go on the hunt."
"Calm down this time is steady coming."
"Right if you've not been lagging by improving mastery of cursed blood magic the time would come already," laughed white-haired mage, who appeared in the doorway to the living room.
"Lisanna..." Lilica muttered through clenched teeth and Corona looked at her and just said slowly. "I don't let you show up ere now young lady. I guess you haven't received 'manners' lesson recently."
"Just not another lesson," on the face standing in the doorway famale mage appeared fear and she immediately disappeared somewhere in another part of the property. And Karen only slightly smiled.
"So where was we?" mused the old cursed. "Ahh I remember. Do you have the information," she turned to the man present in the room, "about a mages who knows take over magic?"
"Most of suitable candidates are five or six days away. Although..." he hang on voice for a moment.
"Although what?"
"Four maybe five days away is a dark guild, which slowly moving would be within days of walk from our mansion within the next week. The only female mage in their group seems to be learning magic we're interested in," fell silent for a moment. "Unfortunately I don't have updated information on this magic subtype so it's difficult to determine whether it will be a suitable candidate for the object of miss Karen hunting."
"You can take a few of the servants," Elvira decided immediately. "You have in the next few days to find out whether it will be a suitable victim. Do you understand?"
"Yes my lady," he bowed and left the room.
"By the time I will know if you have to go hunting you must focus on continuing your teachings under the guidance of Raul," she said in the direction of green-haired mage then stood up. "And I'll go to see how well Lisanne remembers manners I keep teaching her."
Half weeks later evening somewhere in the territory of Seven
"It's hard to find you the Mercedes," he began and when she didn't interrupt continued, "and I think that since the last time you got even more pretty?"
"Of all of the people it's you Gabriel who trying to flirt with me?" turned and folded all three pairs of wings, so that now their looked like surrounding her a little too big dress made of the angelic feathers.
"The last time we saw when you was leaving gathering with 'that' being. Our brothers and sisters are worried about your safety," blond haired man continued unfazed. At the same time also folded his two pairs of wings.
"For you is only 'a thing'. But it's due to our species become an abomination. Already not demoness but not yet angel. Ah yes and she accidentally threw me to the other pool of the concentrated aether," she turned her back to him and started slowly walk. "But you not found me to just mention ancient history or compliment on my current appearance."
"It was worth a try," he laughed and started walk matching her pace. "Your younger brother will soon reach adulthood. I thought you would like to know."
"So does he began to show suddenly an almost insatiable hunger or feel pain in his back?" carelessly brushed aside a lock of hair that fell over her face.
"When I left our gathering his insatiable hunger already kicked in. However, because of that your maturation happened so early and suddenly I didn't wait when he start to feel pain," Gabriel quickened his pace. "It is possible that now as we speak here he undergoing that."
"So what do you want from me?"
"Come back with me," increasing pace get ahead of her and stood in her path then stopping her by grabbing by the shoulders. "Go back because of your brother."
"When did you get so talkative? Garbiel, I knew wasn't such a chatterbox," she replied when she sensed the presence of someone else in the vicinity.
Godsend also sensed the third essence and letting go platinum-haired angel drew his sword from the sheath turning in the direction of where sensed approaching creature.
"Gabriel," said a woman's voice when slowly approached them red-skinned woman with a medium-sized horns and a pair of angelic wings moved by occasional wind gusts.
"Heavenly Succubus Princess," he said through his teeth without lowering his sword.
"So that how you nicknamed me behind my back," she stopped for a moment, "probably adequate considering my current look."
"Lower your weapon Gabriel and Angelica won't be forced to self defend herself," female angel moved to stop between both of them after a moment. "I'll go to see my brother but when I deem it appropriate. You still resides where last time?"
"Almost. We moved about a hundred or two hundred kilometers in the west to the areas of the country people call Fiore," he replied still holding the weapon ready. "Why don't you go with me? You more prefer 'her' company?"
"I don't need again falling to my feet admirers and full of jealous glances of fellow 'competitors'. In due time I'll find the right person to be my partner and mate so when you return can relay to my brother that I would arrive on time," she turned and started walk toward succubus.
"Gabriel you should set off to return quickly. It's not very safe areas," she said when she passed by Barr. "So do we have to move too Angelica."
Red-skinned woman for a moment measured with her eyes man standing in front of her before she sighed and turned away starting to walk away with his friend. When they moved away a considerable distance he slowly sheathed his sword and spreading wings flew away.
'I hope she make in time. If after me telling you message to him still won't come at time her brother can never recovered of that blow,' he thought flying west.
A few days later near Luna mansion
When they stopped for a short stop Angel as usual after the quick helping others with spacing tents drifted a bit away with book, from which the last few days she has barely parted. Learning magic contained in it was quickly progressing.
"Finally," closing the book and putting it next to her she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Does you mastered it?" asked Midnight when approached her.
Before answering slowly turned head toward him. "I mastered basics to use it. Now to be able to fully use it I have to find an angel."
"Sounds simple."
"But it is not," she said and stood up. "I'll go up a bit and think how can I find an angel. I should go back to before dusk."
He didn't say anything just turned and walked slowly toward his tent. The dark female mage for a long time walked ahead, lost in thought getting more and more away from the camp.
"Angel. Learning magic wasn't difficult, however how can I find one of them. It's not like suddenly one would fall from the sky," she muttered under her breath. A few minutes later, somewhere in the vicinity she heard the noise as if something fell to the ground. Hesitated for a moment and then taking caution went in that direction.
"Ahh It had to happen right now. She will be mad at me," muttered tall young man pulling a few small branches that become entangled in his hair during the fall. Fortunately, he didn't feel any pain in the wings so they weren't broken or otherwise damaged enough to ground him for a long time. At least none of healing spells that he knew isn't able to handle. Just in case, he used one of them.
Slowly slinking she saw between the trees sitting sideways an individual, who to her surprise seemed to have a pair of wings sprouting from his back.
"Angel?" she almost silently said and started slowly circling it still wondering if truly one of them fell here or was just a figment of her imagination. From a distance two of them was observing a short individual dressed as a peasant.
"Well," he said under his breath, noting something held in the hand notebook. "The object of observation probably encountered an angel. If I'm not mistaken and object will acquire his form will be ready to participate in a night hunt. Yeesss master will reward me as I would report this joyful news."
"Open the Gate of the Twins! Gemi and Mini!" she whispered to not betray her presence.
When a couple of small ghosts appeared next to her in a low voice, further instructed them to assume her shape and for a moment attract his attention. They immediately complied changing into female mage and then slowly moved toward the young man as she hiding in nearby bushes she started to walk around him.
"Ahh," he said when heard the sound of a crushed branch and turned back. Slowly toward him walked a blonde woman. "Who are you?"
"Friends call me just Angel," said Gemi-Angel and added, seeing his slightly confused look. "What happened?"
"Nothing much," he mumbled slightly turned his eyes away from her. "At the moment I landed on my way to a meeting with a friend."
"Do I have something on my face?" asked when again after a briefly looking at her turn down his gaze. Somewhere on the side was slowly approaching him a real dark mage. When he looked up and then at Gemi-Angel she innocently put her hands in front of herself which caused a slight highlighted her bust. He immediately blushed and this time looked to the side stopping his gaze on approaching him Sorano.
"Oh," said spirit when they looked in the direction where he was looking with shock.
"The same?" he said and took a step back. Not wasting time Gemi-Angel moved ahead toward him. Although moved slightly to the side to avoid the blow opponent stopped and kicked him in one of the legs so that in the end he lost his balance.
"Don't damage him too much. I think he must be in good condition to my magic work on him," from side said to spirits celestial mage for now watching course of the events.
"So you're the brain here," he said and spatting on the ground slowly rised. Then quickly folded his arms and open palms turned towards Angel.
"Thunder Bullets," said and in her direction flew at high speed mass of lightning orbs which some she dodged but rest hit her pushing and ultimately sending back on the ground. Without waiting he turned towards Gemi-Angel.
"Lightning Blast," still using both hands formed the electrical discharge, which he sent in the direction of the other opponents but she managed to dodge the incoming attack. Instinctively, she threw in the direction of a nearby tree to gain even partial cover. Male angel in this time turned his attention towards the first of the women.
"Open the Gate of the Ox! Gala!" with slight uncertain yet clear voice said Sorano and before her opponent in a flash appeared another celestial spirit. After that she slowly began to crawl toward the thicket. "Copy him," she yelled toward twin spirits.
"Yes," replied Gemi-Angel and the spirit in few seconds has changed to the same form as young angel. For a moment somewhat chaotically moved his body as if trying to adapt to the new form.
"What kind of magic is that?" he muttered and remembered about escaping mage turned toward her hands, and sent large electrical discharge.
"Iron Dragon's Club," almost instinctively used spell the cow spirit changing one of her hands in a long metal rod that drew the discharge. Despite taking it on herself she only slightly staggered.
"It supposed to be a spell?" she grunted and pointed the other hands in the direction of the enemy. "Iron Dragon's Sword."
"Don't hurt him too much," said to her mage for what Gala slightly altered track of the expanding sword so that it only slightly injured his shoulder. At that time Gemi-male angel sent many lightning orbs in his direction knocking him off balance.
"Jade Dragon's Scales," the body of celestial spirit covered jade and so she started to charge at her opponent. Before he could react headbutted him and knocked back. Wasting no time created several iron binding, which she used to immobilize him on the ground and finally add several long and thick bolts so he couldn't stand up.
"Are you much hurt?" twins spirits ran to Angel and before she answered used va very simple healing spell.
"Nothing that would prevent me from gaining his form," said Aguria after standing up and then slowly walked towards immobilized individual. "You can go back," she said in the direction of the spirit in the shape of an angel, on which he instantly disappeared.
"Stay for a moment longer," said to the cow's spirit, who again had her normal form. When she was next to an angel crouched.
"I found him then pinned down. So how do I suppose to take his form?" She pondered and grit fist hit him in the face.
"Is it enough?" she looked at her hand, which hasn't changed. "Hmmm, didn't work. It may need something else..." slowly reached for the next key.
"Open the Gate of the Chisel! Caelum!" beside her appeared floating sphere. "Sword form," she ordered and the spirit obediently changed form. She stood up and seizing the hilt swung and snapped a piece of lying man wing.
"Maybe now... Has something changed in me?" asked standing spirit, who replied that they don't see any difference. Lying person slightly moved.
"Lay down," angrily slapped him in the face again. It seemed to her that she did everything as it should be but the take over magic didn't seems to activate itself.
"Angel," meditation was interrupted by buxom female spirit. "It seems that I heard someone heading in our direction."
"So what?" she said getting up and kicking with anger lying.
"It approaching us very fast," said Gala.
"Hmpf," she sighed and let go of Caelum, which turned into a floating sphere. "I guess I'll have to find another angel. And you Gala disappear."
Cow ghost done as commanded without a word and then Angel turned to the last of the spirits still summoned, "Take Cannon form and make sure this angel would 'never' be able to fly again."
When it changed form she added, "I changed my mind. Make him even unable to move. Whether by maul or kill do it in a heartbeat."
Spirit moved slightly as if acknowledging command. First it started with shoot throu wings, next each of the limbs and then pointed at man chest and burn a medium-sized hole through it. Immobilized gave only a brief agonizing groan and died.
"Good," said the Angel and sent away this spirit too. "I wish I was more use of you. I just lost some time and who knows when next time meet another angel."
She looked around finding a direction where was a camp and slowly started walk there. She make maybe several steps when she heard a whistle behind.
"Stop," a woman's voice called out to her what he stopped and turned around.
Next chapter: Rematch
A/N: So Angel got her first taste (took first step) to be real angel. Well at the end of the road she will be close to angel...among been also something different than when she started. This and next chapter would close pre OS arc part so 4th chap would be about her fate after been captured (no worry she won't sit for years in some magical prison). Using angel soul as reason I do spoiled some soon to show up other types of Take Over souls (why we should limit ourself to satan, animal, beast, machina anyway?) so it won't be anymore like: omg another soul type. Plus this chap here was beside Angel soul it almost not known little brother/sister Human soul (would get some more spotlight in next chapter I swear).
A/N v2: I do throw few more new faces (mostly angelic in orgin fully or partial) but no major smashing this chapter as that will be more prominent next time.
A/N v3: Next down lane should go... (checking notes) next Heirloom chap but no not in this year sadly. Editing it to look decent is hellish work for me so maybe half of January I shall then give myself deadline for it adding. For now merry christmas to all my reader and happy new year. May good stories be with us forever.
