Rain
Chapter 20: Interludes
He kept his gaze on her, watching her chest rise and fall underneath the blanket. He shouldn\'t be doing this, he knew that. She wasn\'t who he wanted her to be, no matter how similar. He could feel the urge screaming in his head. \'Take her! Take her you fool! You can almost taste how she craves you!\' his primal urge screamed to him.
Vicious moved foreword, his hands out, grasping her arms, and pulling her to his chest. He leaned down, keeping his cold, pale blue eyes on the dark, empty obsidian of hers. He wanted to see her vulnerable, wanted to see her want him. He knew that she did, he could taste it even now, below the surface a passion was burning her away.
\"It\'s not healthy to suppress everything. I\'m not asking for love, hell I\'m not asking for any attachment. I just want you in my bed tonight. And before you say it, I know you\'re not her, I don\'t want you to be,\" he said, his voice softening towards the end of his speech. He gazed into her eyes, searching, for that conflict that he had glimpsed once, for her answer. He then smiled, not quite filled with love and adoration as he did for Rain, but one for Sith, filled with an understanding, a knowledge that he knew what it was like to live in constant battle with himself.
She opened her mouth slightly, intending to answer, but he couldn\'t wait any longer. Within moments he captured her lips with his own, claiming them. He didn\'t care about what happened earlier now, or what the morning would wrought, he only cared if she kissed him back, if Sith accepted his offer. And damn it if he wasn\'t persistent.

Rain ned ned her grey eyes on the deep crimson carpet that covered the floor. The dim light that illuminated the room casting shadows around her. She didn’t acknowledge them, she didn’t need to, she was protected, she was home.
“What have you to report?” an aged voice asked.
“He cares nothing for the order, he’s lost to us,” Rain replied.
“You are with child. Who is the father?” another voice asked.
“Vicious,” she answered softly.
“We congratulate you, child. We approve. But he is rash, do you trust Vicious to stay away?” a third voice asked.
Rain snorted as she raised her head. “I have learned much in my time away. One thing I have always known is that Vicious will follow his own path, not one laid by you or anyone else.”
The Than looked at one another, understanding and knowledge shining in their wizened eyes. “You have grown, child Rain,” the first said.
Rain smiled. “I’d like to hope so.”
“What do you recommend we do with Vicious?” the second asked.
Rain shrugged. “I cannot recommend anything, I am not absolute, I am not Than.”
The third grinned. “You are well on your way to be, child.”
Rain smiled wider. “You flatter me, but I am not a leader.”
“Even so, you are our chosen successor,” the third said.
Rain’s eyes widened. “I am not a ruler, I know nothing of politics. Would it not be wise to chose another?”
“We have spoken, Rain, you are our right hand, Sith is your fist, so we planned when we first chose her,” the second stated.
“I cannot accept this,” Rain ground out, her eyes darkening.
“You have no choice, Rain. It was always to be you,” the first said.
Rain’s eyes went downcast as she bowed to the Than. “Do you wish anything else of me?”
“No, Rain, that is all,” the second dismissed.
Rain bowed again and turned away from the Than, her eyes distant as she left the room, accompanied by a bodyguard.
“They didn’t believe me,” she sighed.
“What was that?” he asked.
“When I told them that Spike didn’t care about the syndicate anymore, they didn’t believe me.”
“I’m sure you have nothing to worry about,” he said.
Rain rolled her eyes. “Whatever, Shin. Just promise me something.”
“What?”
“Should anything happen, anything that would lead to Spike’s or the Bebop’s endangerment, protect them.”
“Anything for you, Rain,” Shin said as he watched her enter her room, closing it behind her.

Vicious watched her with cold unscrutiny as she slept, her crimson colored locks spilling over the white sheets of his bed, like blood on snow. That thought immediately led to when he had nearly killed Rain. Everything seemed to lead to Rain. His every thought, every breath, hell even sleeping with Sith made him think of her.
‘God damn it, stop! She’s not here! Focus on the beautiful woman in your bed now, not the one that’s not!’ he mentally scolded himself.
Softly, he tucked a few strands of red behind Sith’s pale ear, a strange curiosity in his mind. It wasn’t like it had been with Julia, no that had been about possession, and it wasn’t like Rain, he was in love with her. It was something else, something fascinating about this woman that drew him to her. She was so cold, so unfeeling at times, and then there were moments, like last night, that she was an entirely different person. She was a burning forest fire, controlled one moment, and then blazing with uncontrollable fury the next. But to say that he didn’t feel anything else towards Sith was a lie. She was kindred to him, more so than Rain could ever be. She understood how he thought, what he was. She could be considered, if he believed in such things, his soul mate. He did feel love towards her, not the complete, all consuming, love he had for Rain, no, but it was a kind of love. He smiled slightly and shook his head as he slunk off the bed and headed for a shower. Maybe he was insane, maybe he was evil, but it really didn’t matter anymore. Sith belonged to him now, much like Rain belonged to him. She wasn’t sleeping on the couch any more.

Levii: Whoo! I just keep cranking these chapters out! What did ya\'ll think of the plot twist eh? Rain never really left the syndicate and has been a spy all along? Or is she just running to the syndicate because she has no where else to go? Hm... which is it? Tell me what you guys think... oh, and don\'t worry, we\'ll be getting back to the rest of the Bebop crew soon. I mean, what does Jet and Spike have to say about Faye\'s little surprise? Not to mention, what happened after Rain told the true identity of her baby\'s father? What did they say that drove her off? Review and I\'ll tell you.
