Aya woke and realized there was no detergent in the world up to the task of erasing Schuldich’s spicy scent from his bedding. Schuldich was draped across him with a casual grace, looking almost posed with one leg tossed over Aya’s and an arm wrapped around Aya’s waist. A small corner of Aya’s brain was offering advice on things like force and trajectory, intent on getting Schuldich out of the bed and onto the floor. In response Aya was doing a wonderful job of convincing himself he was already damned. He had no inclination whatsoever of moving. He was too…comfortable. With his eyes closed, his face relaxed, Schuldich looked almost human…

‘Stop that, or I’ll start thinking you care.’

Almost. Few people could ruin a tenuous mood without even opening their mouth.

‘What can I say, I am talented.’

“If you’re awake, get up.”

‘Your mouth spouts snark, but the rest of you is happy.’

Forced introspection was never Aya’s favorite way to wake up, and he definitely didn’t like the way Schuldich’s telepathic humor danced through his nerve endings. It was disconcerting, and far too close to enjoyable.

“I’m not Crawford, so stop baiting me and get up.”

From teasing to tension in less than a heartbeat; Schuldich wasn’t the only one good at ruining a mood. Schuldich tensed and drew away, almost vibrating with displeasure, leaving Aya alone and starting to feel guilty in the bed.

“And I’m not your precious Aya-chan.” Schuldich stalked from the room, his discontent trailing after him like virulent miasma.

Leaving Aya alone on his bed, as he had wanted, and oddly not at all pleased with the situation.

“Whatcha doing?”

Yohji had always thought he would die of some ailment of the lungs, not from a heart attack. But his heart lurched to a startled halt as the question came from somewhere behind and to the left; from someone he hadn’t heard approach. “Shit make some noise next time why do…what the hell are you doing here?”

Schuldich almost looked like he belonged, perched against a shelf amidst flowers that almost matched his hair like some sort of oversized pixie. “It’s better than home. I’m sure you understand.”

“You? Not likely.” Yohji looked down at the flower he had hopelessly mangled as he was startled and tried to figure out how to finish his work and keep from turning his back to the telepath.

“You’re all so nervy.” Schuldich vacated his perch with a laugh that wasn’t quite mirthful and moved to stand directly in front of Yohji. “There. Better?”

“Better would involve you being gone. Amazing would be going to the morgue to ID your body.”

“I see no benefit in killing you. And you should see the benefit in keeping me around.”

Yohji barked a laugh, shaking his head. Benefit in keeping the telepath around? They might as well keep poisonous spiders in the bed sheets and mines on the sidewalk.

‘Don’t try the mines. Too many innocents would be splattered against your front window, and that’s more Farf’s style of decoration.’

“Shit! Don’t do that!”

“Just being beneficial.” Schuldich cocked his head to the side, and then affixed a sort of malicious pout onto his face. “Looks like I am about to be outnumbered.”

“Where the hell is your keeper?” Ken spat as he entered the shop and caught sight of Schuldich.

“Well, I left him in bed. We had a bit of a spat.” There was nothing pleasant in Schuldich’s expression as he smiled. “Want the sordid details?”

“Open your mouth to try and I will knock a few teeth loose.”

‘Who said anything about opening my mouth? Though, now that you mention it…’

There were things about Schuldich’s sex life man was just not meant to know. Ken turned a fascinating shade of green and stared at the smirking telepath.

Yohji decided to take a more proactive approach to dealing with Schuldich, and to take advantage of his momentary distraction and threw a punch he didn’t expect to land. Thusly, Yohji was damn surprised when his fist connected with Schuldich’s temple, and Schuldich folded to the ground.

“You wanna call Aya?”

Yohji looked at Ken and grimaced. “Not really.”
